Quote:There's an easier solution to that. CoH isn't really designed to work with Aero, so sometimes it works with it, other times it doesn't. If you don't want it to do the random switching, go into the properties for cityofheroes.exe and change the compatibility option for "disable desktop composition". This way, every time you run CoH, Aero will be disabled rather than needing to adjust your theme every time. I think it also lowers the resources usage of the desktop that Aero can have while CoH is running. The only issue I've ever had with Win7 64bit is Alt+Tab'ing out of the game. On occasion Aero will become disabled. If that does occur, go to your desktop preferences, and reselect one of the standard desktop themes, then re-enable Aero on your taskbar.
I've not had this issue crop up for a while, so it may have been resolved but knowing Microsoft, I doubt it.
Quote:Seebs's comment makes me wonder if the Vidiot map patch would work well with it or not.
Overall, the only issue I have with CoH and Win7 is that I really need more RAM in my computer. So that means... no real compatibility issues that I've seen either related to the OS. -
I swore for the longest time that you could only have one Lightning Storm at a time, but with Hasten I'm able to get two out. So can you have two Tornadoes out at the same time? With max recharge and Hasten, there would be a few seconds of overlap. I'm just wondering which pet rules Tornado follows since I always thought it, just as it is so with Lightning Storm, followed the "one pet at a time" rule.
Of course, it wouldn't help much in many situations, but I would like to know for future reference. Thanks! -
Its possible that the former quote may have been the lie as maybe, for some reason, there may have been some sort of NDA or something in regards to anything not actually released within the movies. The interview is from 2009 and its a year later.

What are the numbers of the new Burn? How about in comparison to Fire Sword Circle? I don't have time to log onto the server today to check.
As for the target number, I think, esp. for the Blaster version, we might be able to request a higher target cap for it still. I think, in some ways, it may be simple oversight after these changes. Anyone confident enough to ask Castle? -
Quote:Strangler: I actually have it frankenslotted as a hold with some damage right now, but with Carrion Creepers, Fly Trap, Tornado and Lightning Storm, as well as vet powers, I'm starting to feel its a bit unnecessary. However, if I do go with buying Basilisk's Gaze, I just might go with your suggestion.I don't currently have access to Mids, so I can't check your bonuses. I generally wait until 50 for my final build, but I know a lot of folks who make Exemp-friendly builds with lower level IOs that will let them keep their bonuses when they exemp.
Strangler: If you mostly solo, then you may want to fit some damage in here. 4 Bas Gaz, then some additional Acc/Dam and Dam/Rech instead of the last two. I have seen some people who mostly solo slot this as a damage power, too.
Seeds: I don't know how fast it is recharging, but it never recharges fast enough. put in a 6th slot with a common Recharge?
Spirit Tree: If you can find a 5th slot for this, a fifth Doctored Wounds will give you another 5% recharge.
Steamy Mist will also take a LotG Recharge -- can you skip Hover?
Carrion Creepers: This power is complex due to the multiple pseudopets. My understanding is that procs only fire when that particular power is used . . . so an Immob proc only works when Creepers uses the Immob power. In general, you will get more damage overall using common Damage IOs, since they will work for all of the various powers. The one exception may be the Slow, since several of the powers have Slow, so the Slow proc works most of the time.
Lightning Storm: If you can fit it in, the Devastation Chance for Hold proc is great in this power. You can 6-frankenslot it with Dam/Rech and Dam/EndRdx/Rech from Thunderstrike and Entropic Chaos, Dam/Rech and Chance for Hold from Devastation. Some nice Regen and Recovery, plus capped Rech and Damage and the hold proc.
Seeds: I'm not fond of the enhancement value that Malaise's Illusions gives at all, so after thinking about it, I'm just going back to frankenslotting it. Easier to get max recharge, good accuracy and better than needed duration that way, at least until I can get a purple Confuse set.
Spirit Tree: That's the plan. I couldn't think of where else I wanted to pull a slot for it for now though.
Hover: This is completely thematic and in someways valuable for me. I mostly spend my time in the air and really enjoy the hover animation for this character. Also, with the Fly's endurance cost and the general endurance hog of this build, it is much easier to use to stay out of trouble. I may take it out for efficiency, but I won't like myself, heh.
Carrion Creepers: Yeah, that was something I wanted feedback on and thank you for it. It certainly is a confusing power. I guess I will stick with Impeded Swiftness proc for now (if I even go with one). For general IO enhancement, do only pet powers that take the sets slotted in it accept that enhancement value as well as summon power that we're slotting or does it benefit all powers regardless of accepting? Like if I slotted an Acc/* from an Immobilize set, would it only give accuracy to immobilize powers? It definitely seems like I want to go 2 Recharge IOs, one Kinetic Crash Rech/End (if it benefits the recharge and endurance cost of the summon) and then make the last 3 slots a variety of Acc, Dam and possibly a proc.
Lightning Storm: Yes, that's what I'm planning to do. Does Lightning Storms accuracy bonus work well enough even when fighting +4s? Just wondering if I might switch out a Dam/End/Rech for a Acc/Dam/Rech or something.
Thanks to everyone for their feedback. After looking over cost and time factor, I've decided I'll just update a few powers with cheaper sets or ones I won't likely replace at 50 (like BG) and then frankenslot the rest. -
Just hit 38 on my Plant/Storm Controller and have been thinking of finally sinking some inf into a build (based at level 40). Biggest concern really being if it is worth it at this point. I think the global recharge will help (and other set bonuses), but I'm not sure if it'll help as much as just frankenslotting for now. This is primarily a build to help solo (my only disappointment was I couldn't fit Entangle in too). Thoughts? Suggestions? Just wait until 50 to work on set bonuses?

Just have a quick question. Is it worth the slot investment to add Shield Breaker, Touch of Lady Grey and/or Achilles' Heel procs to Fly Trap for extra damage? I've been considering it, but want opinions before deciding. I've been leveling my Plant/Storm again and thought it might be a good way to get some extra damage while I move towards Tornado and Lightning Storm, as well as APP powers.
-
Guess I must be unlucky. The few times I tried the power, I got Devolution twice in a row. Sure feels like a long time as a Rikti monkey, but it isn't in the grand scheme of things. I think it is kind of a fun addition.

My vote is for Gen Con. Although I live in Denver and would love something closer, my uncle goes to Gen Con every year. So even if I can't make it myself, I can abuse him to get me something if you bring any of your awesome merchandise!

Also, if we're talking about all of this from a roleplaying perspective, keep in mind character versus player knowledge. The bios that we're reading on the website are not necessarily representative of what a character in the game may know or their knowledge may be clouded by other factors. For example, perhaps a hero character is a big supporter of law and order. All he hears about Praetoria on Primal Earth is that it is run by the cruel, dictatorial Tyrant that has driven his populace into obedience through fear. This could cloud the characters perception. But what about once they travel to Praetoria and see (on the surface at least) an orderly society, with little to no open crime, everyone living in relative peace and safety? And this all came about because of Emperor Cole. If your character idealizes law and order, what is not to like about this person? The reality you see before yourself is nothing like what you've heard before.
Anyway, just an idea as to why a hero might support Emperor Cole. We still don't have all the information on how the morality system and side-switching will work, so its only speculation on how much it will relate to the different factions. -
Select "Run as administrator" on the installer. That should do it. At least that's what I did when I had problems installing the program.
-
Just reached 26 on my Plant/Storm Controller and have been thinking about how to slot Carrion Creepers. I plan on maxing recharge, then some accuracy, but beyond that I don't know what works well for the power. What are some of the common slotting conventions for Carrion Creepers? Anyone have any combos they really like? It seems like it'd be a power that would be great for frankenslotting and procs.

Quote:I think that it is possible that feedback was taken into consideration, but the patches necessary to address that could not be applied before needing to move on in the development schedule or they couldn't be added to an incremental build and needed to be put in the next full build (which would probably mean they're in I17). I don't think it is unreasonable to believe we may still see some changes to Dual Pistols over the next couple months. Unfortunately until I17 is released, we won't be seeing any more patches on Live other than hotfixes. That is the issue, there was given solid feedback, people were clambering to have HoB, ES, and EC, changed but they did not listen.
This certainly wouldn't be the first time that we've been told about a change that we didn't get for a long time because of the way their build system works. -
Out of curiosity (and having a lot of free time right now), I decided to check if Sapper was somewhere in the puzzle. I tried looking around for double Ps, since that would probably be easiest way to identify the word. I can say without a doubt that there is no properly spelled Sapper in that puzzle. The closest I could find was Sap.

The only real issue I had with the Deadly Apocalypse (and I guess part of it was late participation) was that villain zones seemed to have the event activate less often than hero zones. One obvious fact is there being more city zones in Paragon City for the event to activate in, so it would appear more often there, but that really shouldn't be the case. There were times I'd wait an hour or more between villain zones spawning the event while it might pop up in 2 or 3 hero zones in that time. Lower population didn't help for finishing the event either since if the event didn't happen in a hub zone, it wouldn't get finished. I really think next year, whatever the spawning rate will be for the event, it should always launch in one hero zone and one villain zone at a time. It centralizes where everyone needs to go and offers the same chances to both sides to have the event even though they have a different number of city zones.

I've had the urge to try making a speedster character lately, thus a /SR character is a must. I'm heavily leaning towards MA now that it has punches within the set (easily rounded out with Air Superiority and Boxing, if needed) and only a couple necessary kick powers (I wish Crane Kick had the option for the uppercut Cobra has). DM could work, but most of its better powers now aren't very contacty (Siphon Life and Midnight Grasp, IIRC). The last option, IMO, is Electric Melee (generating electricity and quick reflexes always go together), but I've never used it so I don't know how it feels.
Anyone have recommendations for this concept? This build will definitely be concept first, optimization second. I'm not very good with building melee characters though, so any example builds/advice would be welcomed. Oh, and does anyone have a video of how the MA punches look when used in an attack chain? -
I haven't bothered to respec my level 50 Mind/Psi since the Dominator changes, so I thought I should before I16 launches. There really isn't a whole lot to change on her, but I'm trying to think of how to work in Psi Dart, Mental Blast and Telekinetic Thrust.
Before the Dominator changes, Psi Dart was never slotted (and only very rarely used) and I didn't even take MB and TK Thrust. Instead I had Mesmerize (at the time, practically identical to MB in every way but with a better effect) and Levitate slotted as attacks. So now I've only got so many slots left to go around and I know whatever I take will need some slotting. Should I keep what I'm doing or take and slot MB and TK Thrust? Psi Dart worth any slotting? -
The primary benefits for using Gladiator's Net over Basilisk's Gaze is that the set bonuses exemplar with you like purples and you can have better enhancement value, but that's about it.
I got a set of Gladiator's Net for pretty cheap. I think the most I spent was 10 mil for one piece, but it took some waiting. Most of it was 5 mil or less when I purchased it. -
I do want to mention that, because of I15, I was considering making the MM along the lines of a former 5th Column member, although I wasn't sure if that was too cliche seeing as how two NPCs already kinda take that concept with Burkholder and Vandal... But its still another idea I considered.

The other character I've been wanting to make is a Bots/Traps MM. Last time I played it was way back in CoV beta, but I thought I'd give it another try. Basic concept of a person that enjoys to build, probably sticking with a Natural origin. Beyond that... I'm lost. Haven't even really thought of a costume for it either. I could use any ideas anyone can give for this one.

The Tinkerer, The Raging Tinkerer, Tink... I don't know where I'm going with this, but I really like the idea of a Bots/Traps MM that "tinkers" with deadly toys called something like Tinkerer.

Yeah, I tried all version of "tinkerer" I thought pleasing and all were taken. I thought it was good too. -
I've been sitting on making a couple characters for over a month now, but I can't think of any good ideas to work with them beyond what I've got so far. The boards have always been helpful when I've had this "writer's block" before, so I thought I'd ask for some help again.
First, I've been wanting to make a Brute for the longest time and I finally made a costume I liked. I've got the concept going for an SS/Inv Brute that's a power armored merc/bounty hunter. Really all I need now is a name to seal the deal, but nothing I've been coming up with sounds good.

Hedgewitch?
Wow...that is awesome. Seriously inspired name and actually her current look is rather nice. I'm assuming Irish with all that celtic ropeing being used and he hair being red?
[/ QUOTE ]
Awww, shucks... And yeah, that's all correct. I was originally drawing on some druidish ideas for her, so it kinda stayed with her concept.
Thanks for all the compliments. It has definitely convinced me to rethink some of the same costume. Also, its hard to tell from the screenshot, but the dark color is actually a brown. To be precise, its the fourth down and two over on the left, IIRC. Here's a .costume file if you want to see the costume in your game. I'm wondering if maybe finding a slightly brighter combination of colors might not also make it a bit more appealing. Then again, the suggestion for folded boots could also add something interesting... Well, off to the drawing board!
Any suggestions are still welcome though. -
I've got a character I really want to get into, but I can't think of a costume that really grabs me. The character's name is Hedgewitch and she is a Magic Plant/Storm Controller.
Her current costume is all right, but it doesn't really jump at me. I was attempting to go for something natural/earthy with a bit of a magic vibe, but I think it is really just too dull. The only bit I still really like is keeping her a redhead, so I'm up for any other alteration. Any suggestions? -
With the recent Stalker changes, I decided to try another one especially since I had a really good concept for the character. The character is a DB/Regen character named Viper Fang, or at least that's the working name. She was experimented on to figure out how the Snakes were mutated and it subsequently gave her some reptilian features (the face), regenerative abilities and venomous blood. But I can't seem to be totally satisfied with this costume. I know it needs some other color and possible different hair, but I can't think of anything that would be really great. Especially for the color because I was trying to stay with a kinda "snake" color theme, although that can vary. Anyone have any suggests to improve this costume?
