Making a Speedster

I've had the urge to try making a speedster character lately, thus a /SR character is a must. I'm heavily leaning towards MA now that it has punches within the set (easily rounded out with Air Superiority and Boxing, if needed) and only a couple necessary kick powers (I wish Crane Kick had the option for the uppercut Cobra has). DM could work, but most of its better powers now aren't very contacty (Siphon Life and Midnight Grasp, IIRC). The last option, IMO, is Electric Melee (generating electricity and quick reflexes always go together), but I've never used it so I don't know how it feels.

Anyone have recommendations for this concept? This build will definitely be concept first, optimization second. I'm not very good with building melee characters though, so any example builds/advice would be welcomed. Oh, and does anyone have a video of how the MA punches look when used in an attack chain?

I've been working with electric melee and I've really been enjoying it. Very fast and even though it's only a level 17 right now, I've still got a nearly complete unstopping chain.

well as far as concept, you say /SR is a must, though i wouldn't discount ElA either, they both have quickness... could say something like their bio-chemical electrical impulses when into overdrive bring them to super-human levels, and with that ElM fits into the concept to the same degree, especially with powers like LR could be like a light-speed charge

I think colorized dark melee fits a speedster concept very well. The punches animate very fast and would IMO be superior to MA using the punching animations. Plus, you get a heal, which is a very nice to have for SR.

I made a speester concept with DM/SR. I put in a few GotA Def/run speed IOs combined with quickness, swift, and sprint all with run speeds in them and it was a wrap. I later switched swift with hurdle for a little more jump height, put in a stealth IO in sprint and got super speed and can't be seen as well as hitting the speed cap. Even with concept in mind, still hit soft cap def. It actually fits. Moves so fast, you are to see. Even if you are seen, your speed makes you hard to catch and attacks easily miss.

I would give elm/SR a try. With LR in the mix, it sounds like total fun.

My speedster is claws/regen. Claws was and is the fastest primary. I picked regen based on the early Wally West Flash issues that emphasized his increased metabolism and need to eat vast quantities of food. Fast healing reflected that increased metabolism, in my mind. But obviously SR fits just as well or better.

I can totally see MA with flurry thrown in. I just wish it were a faster set, for this purpose.

However, I think DM is the second-fastest, and synergizes very well with SR.

I have two speedster characters. My first is a Kat/Regen. Level 50, great fun. I love the unsuppressed movement (I have a Grav/Storm who is also very fast, but quite up to my two scrappers).

Link to build on these forums. This thread is also about the speedster concept.

My second is somewhat based on the first in concept, although its a DM/SR. This character is only level 22, I think, it has been awhile since I even looked at whatever server they are on. Not quite as fast as the Regen, but still plenty quick.

My "speed" character is DM/SR.
With Sprint+Swift+Quickness+various run speed IO's I get 55mph run speed without needing a travel power.

As for primary...Dark Melee's quick punches make it the perfect fit.

My speedster is Turbo Starr which happened to be my first character. He is MA/SR. With IO's he has a boost of 40% run speed and quickness from his secondary. Very fun, especially when fighting and suppressed.

If you want to look speedy, MA is not what you should pick. It's a good primary, and fun, and while it may fit your concept of fighting with no weapons, you're not going to be the Flash. The animations aren't slow, except for Eagle's, but not fast.
