Running on +2/x6 on my Claws/DA Scrapper. Only group I had problems with, even with popping inspirations like made were Arachnos. Something about Defense Debuffs, Slows and Massive Damage just don't jive well with my Scrapper. Haha. I have trouble with Carnies only when they drop a Dark Servant on top of me when I don't notice. Once I respec her properly into Focused Accuracy and get a Kismet unique slotted, I should be in a better position.
-
Yes.
Even on my Dark/Fire that just hit 22 and doesn't have Consume slotted at all yet, I'm finding it more than bearable. Once I get some global recharge and the powers properly slotted, I'll be laughing. -
Quote:He was saying that 30% of Melee, Ranged -AND- AoE is better than 45 S/L, not 30 of one position.I'm really confused by two things here:
1. You've suggested that 30% Def(position) is better than 45% S/L Def. Everything I've been reading on these forums suggests that if you can't make 45% Def (position), you're better off going for 45% S/L Def.
2. You're suggesting that the percentages of S/L mezzing attacks is the same as S/L non-mezzing attacks. Is that really the case? -
Yeah, my friend and I were saying the same thing. We were running some missions in the RWZ, him on his 50 Sonic/Kin Corr and me on my 38 SS/SD Brute and we were running on +2/x8 and got whomped a few times. Mostly it was just due to not paying proper attention.
After about the second time we were both faceplanted, he said, "Wow, this is awesome! I actually have to pay attention in a mission now!"
I guess no IM'ing while running around on a team anymore, haha! -
On an non-IO'd out build, going over +1 will probably get you eaten alive while leveling if you're running at x6 or higher. And I'd only recommend going x6 or higher once you've got Foot Stomp because you just don't have the AoE to leverage until then. You could probably do +2/x3 or x4 before that but definitely don't go +2/x6.
-
Yeah, I don't believe in Aid Self either. Honestly, without Sets, SS/Shield can do just fine if you're teaming or don't ramp up the difficulty too much while solo'ing. My 38 SS/Shield was teaming with just 1 Kin and we were doing +3/x8 Rikti missions and, in general, we were wasting them. If I had one AT that boosted defense, I woulda been golden.
SS/SD is definately -VIABLE- with just SOs/Regular IOs. It's just not uber like it is when setted out or like a SS/WP is with just generics. -
I did get my rear end almost handed to me doing +4/x8 on my Elec/WP Brute when I ran a mission of Carnies. It wasn't too bad until I had two Dark Servants dropped on my rear end. Holy crap do to-hit debuffs SUCK!

You could consider going for recharge, melee defense and try and get a consequential 33ish Ranged/AoE that can be capped with a luck. Consider that having DP up more often and having less than soft-capped defenses can give you better survivability. Also Obliteration gives you both a hefty amount of Melee defense and 5% recharge. Is this an unlimited budget, dream build type thing? I can definitely give building a Rad/Mental a try here in a bit.
-
With PSW and Irradiate, I would have thought you would want to build for Melee defense first.
-
I concur with Drain Psyche being slotted with Doctored Wounds. Unless you routinely plan on only getting 1 or 2 mobs in DP, slotting End Mod won't really made a huge difference but having it perma and having a free slot will.
-
I take it you haven't been following any of the discussion in the Open Beta forums. If you take a look at the Dev Digest, you can see why it isn't customizable and what BAB is considering doing to make it customizable.

Quote:To be honest (my build isn't 100% complete yet), no.I confess I'm leaning towards Fire over Mind for a few reasons:
- I want to take as much of /Energy as I can and so much of Fire is skippable
- Fire gives me Immobs if I find I need to tone down the knockback from the ranged attacks
- On a purely personal note, my current Dom is Mind/Elec, and I'm not so enamored of the primary that I want to do another 40 odd levels of it straight away
I mean, it's really nice to be able to not worry about total lockdown and to jump into the fray with a Whirling Hands and then back out to blast at range and generally not worry about being hurt... But with the control I can leverage in Terrify and Confusion/Mass Confusion, I'm not really having to worry about it too much. However, I still like collecting defense. And, I'm planning to eventually dip my toe into PvP and have heard it will help me out there. I've also got PFF on the toon, as if that was needed, haha. -
I like Mind/Energy, myself. It is a little single target oriented, however, but if you like solo'ing, the control can't be beat.
Plus, with Mind/Energy, I was able to make a build (expensive but meh) that has Hover, Soft-capped Ranged/Energy Def, 41 Neg and 38 S/L with Perma-Dom (No Hasten). I don't think I could have done the same on Fire/Energy.
Fire/Energy will generally be better teaming and bring more AoE to the table and have a stun to stack with the melee in /Energy. I just focused on Range for my /Energy. -
Quote:I'm assuming you meant Kat/DA and I concur with that sentiment.Katana/Willpower might be nice. Katana has good single target and decent AoE, and Willpower scales up nicely. Willpower is also easy on the endurance bar, which can be important for very long fights with only very short breaks.
I'm personally working on Katana/Dark Melee with the intention to run +4x8, but I'm still fiddling with the build.
Honestly, if you have a bit of a wallet and can pick up a Theft of Essence: Chance for +End for Dark Regen and get some modest recharge and defense set bonuses, I'd really recommend Kat/DA. You might have to run at +2/x6 for a while until your defenses totally mature, but I'd say it'll be a lot of fun. My Claws/DA, without being kitted out that well, was able to slice and dice +2/x8 without too much difficulty.
Either that or go Tank and go Fire/DM, Fire/Fire, Shield/SS, Shield/DM or Shield/FM. All of those have decent survivability and good damage to go with it. With Shields, it's not too difficult to hit the soft-cap and then start working on recharge. -
I just noticed this and am wondering why they didn't post it in the annoucements for the English/North American forums. Now, granted, my French isn't that great but it looks like the 'use your freespec' post. I am going to guess that I16 will be dropping on Tuesday based on this.

Werner, do you use Decimation: Chance for Build-Up in Focus?
-
Quote:Neither? You can typically shoot for just a little bit over 45% Defense and with DDR in Shield Defense, you'll be alright.Try this for ideas...
Swapped a handful of powers around, and traded Stun for a more effective Energy Transfer. I made some major changes to your slotting though. Aimed more for set bonuses to defense. Between 42% melee and 67% melee Def, I know which I'd recommend for any tank out there. -
Is it a mistake that the st0n3y's i16 Mids is showing Fire Blast as having a much higher DPA than SL and being almost on par with Smite? And this is before factoring in FE which benefits Fire Blast more.
-
I forgot to ask:
To all you attack chain gurus, what is the highest DPS attack chain I can run? I want to do some AV soloing on this toon and figure with purples and blues, I should be able to do it. Would it be advisable to swap out RotP or Temp Protection for Burn if I only have one slot for it?
Thanks, looking forward to hearing your responses. -
I finally hammered out a build that I'm fond of. Just under 20s in defenses across the board (just over with the PvPO in the build, but we all know how that goes) and perma-hasten. Couldn't quite figure out how to get perma-Soul Drain so a 5 second downtime will have to do. I have a feeling this toon will be a ton of fun to play, maybe matching the visceral experience I get when playing my Fire/Kin/Stone.
Anyway, if you see ways it could be improved, let me know, I'm fairly open to suggestions. I did decide that this will work without Stamina. So what if I have to eat some blues once in a while, that's not a big deal, right?

I'm using my laptop with my 3G internet connection and even though I have it set to "Remember me", it keeps logging me out. Any ideas on how to remedy this?
-
I would love it if they even just made a special Shield and Claws that -HAD- to be used in conjunction with eachother, like a small bladed shield and an empty hand for your shield hand, and you were locked out of certain weapons and shields, I'd be completely fine with that.
I hope it eventually gets unlocked. The only one I don't think makes sense is Katana. -
The way I see it, removing the need to take the pre-requisites for pools and APPs would also give the Devs a reason to go over those pool powers and rebalance them in order to make it so that maybe taking boxing WOULD be worth it.
As it stands now, most of my toons are built with Boxing/Tough/Weave and Boxing sits unused on the power tray. In fact, the closest I've come to using it is having it four slotted with Kinetic Combat on my Fire/Kin/Stone to get soft-capped S/L defense. My Elec/WP Brute might use it in her fury building chain just because Jacob's Ladder animates way too slow.
I know that with the whole Fitness pool, I'd be hard-pressed to skip Hurdle on a toon with CJ or SS and, like-wise, hard-pressed to skip Swift on a toon with Flight. I know I'd be skipping Stimulant/Aid Other on a number of my builds. I don't see how more choice is a bad thing. The only thing I see is it will give the Devs more work to do in order to make those tons of pre-reqs that everyone would have had to take more palatable so that people will actually want to take them. -
I play fairly often during the later hours from about 10PM to 4AM MST. I was wondering if there are any SGs or even just players on the Justice server who tend to put in playtime around that time.
Thanks in advance.
