What part of an eagle has talons? (read as claws)
  4. <.<
    >.>

I'll be building a new rig for the new mechwarrior game anyway. I won't notice.
  5. I'm going to take this argument in a different direction:

The only TF that I run regularly is the ITF. I prefer doing so with a full team of 8 players because it's more fun for me to do so. Not because of the spawn counts, but because of the general chaos that can occur.

I have soloed the ITF. Or rather I have failed at soloing it due to the autohit fluffy. Yes, I managed to get all the way to the end and failed. I have formulated a plan to deal with that, though.

I attempted this solo event by bothering other players to pad up to the minimum team size and then stayed in the TF by having the extraneous pads quit and then utilizing the bugged exploit where you are left with one teammate that stays in the group but logs off.

Anyone starting to see the problem here yet?

We are being given the ability to set ourselves as a virtual team size. We are being told that this virtual team size will not be recognized by the TF minimum size code, so we're left with having to utilize bugs, exploiting the system, in order to accomplish that which could be accomplished with a flip of a switch on the developer's side.

If they don't wish us to solo TF/SFs, then the bugs that allow us to exploit the system should be fixed.

If they don't care, then they should give us the ability to start TFs solo.

But to deny us the ability to run content intended for teams while giving us the ability to set content difficulty levels as if we had a team makes no sense to me.

EDIT: Sarrate, I hear you, but I don't consider that a problem. No one ever said that everyone should be able to accomplish everything they attempt to do. A solo player right now can run into an AV that they may not be able to handle. Failure happens.

Anyone attempting team content by themselves should know and accept this.

As for the multi-glowy example, the devs have removed most of those from the game, haven't they? Perhaps they should remove them all.

That WILL happen. It happens now. It will be worse with this change.

However, this is also a learning experience for many now and will also be later.

I'm against dropping the TF reqs. The reasons being given for doing so aren't any different than the reasons we've heard for 5 years.

    [/ QUOTE ]

True. Just like the reasons we had for not getting power customization or claws on brutes or larger than 5 digits on the trade inf screen or any number of other changes that X% of the population stated "we'd never get."

The technology is being given to us to set our virtual team size.

All the developers have to do is allow the virtual team size to be recognized as the actual team size by the task force minimum requirement code.

Reasons for allowing it shown in this thread and every other thread on the topic outweigh reasons for not allowing it.

Those that want to team, can. Those that can't handle missions set for 3 players while solo can get two teammates to help them.

Those that can crank it to 11 and take down every AV thrown at them while sitting at the aggro cap from the minute they walk through door number 1 will get to.

Seriously, who will be hurt by this decision? Who will be helped?

Which population has more to gain?

If I can't change out the geometry for Spines then forget about it.

Just say no to banana melee!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Apart from Spines being able to use the geometry from Thorns, and Thorns being able to use the geometry from Spines (both of which can be colored), there will be at least one other set of alternate geometry/FX.

As for Martial Arts, the alternate animations we have right now are mainly punches. The idea was to provide you guys with a way to make the classic, fights with their fists and feet, super-hero that many have been asking for. That includes a new animation for assassin's strike (Assassin's Blow?).

There is a whole lotta win in this post, BAB. Awesome job, man.
  10. You could have also gotten the numbers from the "results are in" threads in the scrapper forum:

  12. ER, I'm not seeing my post about it, but in a nutshell I found claws on scrappers stays ahead of claws on brutes while solo and cranked to the gills, but not by much at all.

    I considered it a wash.

    Found the spreadsheet...

    brute claws

That's IF it's a direct port and Castle didn't change something around

EDIT: For those that don't want to open the excel file:

Scrap Claws w/ 10% crits: 833.1 damage per chain cycle
Brute Claws w/ 80% fury: 813.41 damage per chain cycle
Scrap Claws w/ 5% crits: 795.2 damage per chain cycle

Oh for God's sake. I served in the Marine Corps as an AAV crew chief (1833) and small wpns repairman for 8 years, and I could give a crap less what someone calls me. Former Marine, Ex-Marine, old jarhead, defender of our freedoms, that old cranky guy; none of it matters. Usually the people that repeat this old bit of fiction were never in the military and are attempting to gain some sort of celebrity-by-assocation, IMO. Either that or they have a stick up their a** that the First Sergeant needs to remove.

  15. [ QUOTE ]
All this talk of TFs (which I'd be hugely in favour of opening up to soloists/smaller groups) makes me wonder... how far will you be able to bump the difficulty up in terms of team size before you're encountering AVs instead of EBs?

    [/ QUOTE ]

If you are solo and run on the 5th diff, you get AVs instead of EBs now.

In TFs, it doesn't matter how you're set up. An AV will spawn as an AV if the devs have coded it to do so.

Someone please correct me if these statements are incorrect.

    Yes to taskforces/Strikeforces

-Because I want to experience the content and reading the story. No rush
-Because I dont want to go through the process of finding enough people for the team.
-Because as a familly man I dont want the familly to suffer with me forced to finish the TF in one go. I want to do it when the RL situation allows it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    All excellent reasons.

When we are forced to team with others, we are placing ourselves into a position where we feel obligated to see it through at the team's pace.

Real life can interfere with this and sometimes that places stress upon the team. Sometimes it causes the team to fail.

Being able to start TFs by one's self brings far more good to the game than bad.

Will it make it harder for those that only wish to team for SF/TFs? Yes, I accept the truth in that. But that's why we have supergroups. Join groups of like minded individuals and your wish to always team will be granted.

To deny the pleasure of these TFs to those with hectic lives and/or those that don't wish to team is unnecessary.

Ssshhh. Next you'll be asking why you magic origin SR scrapper is using a tricorder to heal with Aid Self. It's best not to think about these things.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I do wonder if BAB is hiding that one for now. If the tech is in for alternate animations on SS and MA, why not aid self, too?

Would an alternative animation make me rethink aid self? Gut feeling says no. The animation is too long. Cuts into my DPS too much.

On the other hand, I've seen a fully IOed out SR scrapper with aid self. It doesn't die unless it wants to.
  18. Come I-16, my 50s will get the vast majority of my game time. I'm salivating at the thought of the carnage I'll be allowed to take part in.

    [ QUOTE ]
For those wondering, /sr will be the ideal for Claws. One, because Claws is end friendly. Two, because /sr really doesn't care if you knock stuff around like Shockwave will do. I pretty much locked into playing a Claws/sr brute a number of issues ago. I'm currently soloing a Claws/sr scrapper and working on the Hollows zone arcs. I'm almost done with them.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm actually thinking about making a Claws/Dark. Already have an SR brute and I don't like doubling powersets within ATs.

Claws/Fire will probably be pretty sick too.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I've long hated FA, but not too long ago I accepted that much of my hatred comes from the fact that I paired it with EM, which offers little in the way of mitigation.

claws/fa would have massive mitigation from focus/shockwave.

Gettin hurt too much? Jump back, shockwave the spawn, healing flames, jump over the spawn, drop burn, jump back over, shockwave again knocking the punks into the burn patch.

Nasty. Exciting. I wouldn't do it, but I see the draw.

I've already got the claws/sr and claws/inv scrappers. More than likely, I'll be going claws/wp on the brute.

    • Umm… so I’m running the Issue 16 beta for the first time.. I figured I’d test the new difficulty settings.. jacked up both to the maximum allowed… but when I entered the mission there wasn’t a ton of bad guys.. just one.. Nemesis dressed in bib overalls… he says he’s going to make me “squeal like a pig”… umm… is this working as intended?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I had a similar thought last night. Get into game, crank the diff to 11, and Castle appears in front of me stating, "Dodge this."

EDIT: Steelclaw, that whole post was incredible.
  21. Thanks to being magic origin, focus and shockwave are spells I throw and have nothing to do with my claws at all.

One day, BAB, one day you must find a way for us to have talons instead of back of hand mounted claws. Please oh please. (Yes, I know of the current limitation.)
  22. Even after 4+ years, I still play with sound on. Since the sky seems the limit on what the devs are willing to give us, I'm all for customizable sounds.

Yes, there are some edge cases to consider where someone who didn't want more teammates might meet someone they liked because they were required to have more teammates. To me, that's a far too intangible benefit for me to not prefer this option to it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That seems to be the key point in my argument as well. There are times that I WANT to team. It's usually after a couple Guinness. When I do, I announce it in the badge channel and usually I can find some event to join or start.

But really, that's a rarity. My being able to start TFs without aid from others is not going to raise or lower the amount I team in this game.

However, I do foresee myself diving back into repeatable missions more after I-16 goes live. Not having the new diff slider allowing us to bypass the min number needed to start TFs will continue to be a nuisance as it has always been, but it's in no way a game breaker for me.

I'm still very thankful that this addition to the game is happening. A LOT of players using a LOT of different ATs and builds needed a higher difficulty when soloing.

We asked for it. We're getting it. That's pretty damn cool.
