The ultra-sized team thing is not my bag. It's not how I care to spend my time and now I'm presented with a) accept that level 50 and alpha-slotting is as far as I will be able to take my characters, or b) participate in a system I don't like in order to be able to keep up with the Joneses.

Neither of these options really appeal to me. I would like some reasonable alternatives to advance through the system, be it a few task forces or whatever. I have heard the argument that "if you don't like the post-50 content, then you can continue playing the way you have been without it." And I probably will, assuming I don't cancel my account (elaboration on this to come). However, I know that for the first few months after I20 is released, attempting to gather a team to play non-raid content which is not the new TFs will be a losing venture. So, soloing, raiding, or running the new TFs over and over again will be the choices presented to me.

So, I'm considering cancelling my account. It's not based off of malice. I'm not sitting at the keyboard going "OMG THEY'RE ADDING RAIDS AND NOW I WILL QUIT." But if the options to proceed are all things that I have no interest in, then why would I continue to keep paying to play if I don't like it? I wouldn't buy a copy of Madden from my local EB Games if I don't like football, after all. I'll give I20 a shot once it hits live, and who knows, it may blow my mind, but I doubt it.
    This.

I recently informed my SG leader that this is probably it for me, for awhile. I20 has nothing of any interest to me, and I've felt obligated to log into the service I'm paying for rather than want to log into the service I'm paying for. When that boredom/tedium hits, it's time for a break. I love City, I really do... but I'm not an end-gamer in any MMO or console game I've ever played. This recent focus on the end game is healthy for a majority of the population, but has more or less alienated my play style.

So back to the original poster's question: It is the journey for me. My destination isn't always the same as everyone else's, as I'm prone to take side paths and the scenic route when it's offered. Sometimes, I don't really even care if I ever make it to where I should have originally arrived. Plus, add in that the destination keeps being pushed back with every patch (like every other raid focused end game)... I don't see the point of trying to get "there" if "there" never truly exists for more than a month or two.

Hence paragraph #2! We don't have all the info, but what we have seen, I can more or less say it's safely not for me. And thanks for the clarification, Gangrel. My main will still get to eventually enjoy a fully powered Judgment power after all.
  3. Not to pop up in the middle of all this heated discussion, but from what the EU people were kind enough to post, it looks like I'll be opting out of the Incarnate system. Or, at the very least, only casually advancing a single character. If future Incarnate abilities are only to be used in raids (as others have said, I havn't seen that myself) then there really isn't a point for a casual like me to have them.

I can see why people are reacting strongly to the announcement and EU Beta test information, but bear in mind.. said beta test is still a closed test. We can't test all of I20 right now, and as others have said, other Overview pages lacked key features to past Issues. The pink elephant in the room would be the lack of mention of the Judgement, Lore, etc etc Incarnate trees. I'd imagine there are other features not being mentioned just yet as well.

That's just my perspective on it, Devs. Still subbing with the hopes of (at the very least) non-Incarnate updates each issue.

Yeah. If anything, I'm sure it's something Jay threw in to throw people off. Anything added after the fact of that chat - such as the Animal Booster - is never before seen at the time of his posting.
  5. Possibly new costume pieces in I20. Again, same as my first post.

Would everyone wear it? No. Would some? Yes.

Anything else I need to break down?

EDIT: Must have skimmed over your post, Shadow State. Nice to see we're on the same page though.

Psst... there's an s on the end of that Group word.
  7. "Groups of eight wearing clothing I have never seen with a Master at the helm!"

Havn't seen this brought up yet, so I thought I'd toss in my 2 cents. Sounds like a hint at the League system used in the new raids... with possibly new costume pieces in I20.
  8. As one of those displeased with Black Scorpion's announcement on 19.5, I've now turned 180 and am happy with how I20 is being handled. Since I can't mention specific MMOs, another superhero game that has both heroes and villains also utilizies a queue system for group specific content. This makes teaming for said content painless. Yeah, you occasionally run into a bad group but more often than not, you're golden and ready to roll.

I still can't dedicate an hour and a half to a raid, but I can appreciate the half hour version. Thank you, that's the perfect length for me. And if neither of these initial trials works, you've provided a way to scale up the trees via shards. Awesome.

Other solo-ists might not be pleased, but I'm satisfied now. Thank you very much, Second Measure!
  9. The new wolves look *amazing.* Also loving the Feline skins. So, we *need* to test this, right? It should be tested soon. It also probably needs a fair amount of testing, several days... possibly up to the 23rd. Yep.
  10. I'm glad I got to see the Minotaur before it was removed. Since that more or less means that was the real deal, these pieces are going to look *amazing.* Hoping it goes on sale soon. Like, yesterday.

    PPD Helmet Error

I've never used the helmet, because I thought it always looked goofy. Now I see why, it's not working the same way as on the female rig. If I played female toons, I'd use that helmet. But I will *never* use the male version as it is right now. Ugh.
  12. The WST definitely made forming a team to run the LRSF much easier. Actually completing said SF.. well, my luck sucks. This was my third attempt and it ended in failure, with all the cursing, name calling and unpleasantness I've come to expect (and learned to avoid) when running said tasks.

Some people in my SG have promised a decent run tomorrow, which I'm hoping for. Otherwise, I'm waiting for next week's ITF that isn't nearly so immune to idiocy.
  13. Worked like a charm, thanks. Didn't even think to use that thing called common sense :S
  14. Hey, my wife just recently got a new, more powerful laptop and I started installing CoH on it earlier. I backed up my entire folder to a DVD and then, after letting her downloader run for 10 or so minutes, canceled out of that and copied the piggs folder over to speed up the process. I did notice that the piggs folder hadn't been created in her City of Heroes root folder, which I thought was weird seeing as how it had already downloaded several pigg files. After copying the files, I re-launched the updater and was dismayed to see the amount to be downloaded remained the same.

So, does the piggs folder install in the same place as it does in Vista? It should be in the root folder, right? Or, does the same method one uses for speeding up the test/beta server install not work on a fresh City install?

    Thanks.

    Strike Pack!

So, I'm looking at either having to run Incarnate Trials in I20 to build my Rares, or run weekly strike forces to build my Rares.

Incarnate system just became like every other end game system, solo unfriendly. Thought Posi said this *was not* going to be how our end game system worked.

Didn't even notice that, but wow... awesome. Loving the teasers for this upcoming booster.

Hear hear! I've been with the game since Issue 0/1 and have ran a grand total of 3 task forces. A Silver Mantis post Issue 17, a horribly failed Lord Recluse Strike Force, and as of Friday, a near speed run version of the ITF. As such:

    1) Make time for and run more Task Forces; maybe one a week.
    2) Reach 50 for a third/fourth time.
    3) Do *something* with AE other than run people's arcs.
  18. Yes, this freezing is insane. On my villains, the opening the Contacts tab in Cap Au Diable is a guarenteed freeze. Opening the Broker tab in Grandville is a freeze. (Or, contacts if I've filled my Broker up.) Now, apparently, trying to edit my ID in Galaxy City on my hero is a freeze.

Borderline unplayable. I can have fix now?

EDIT: Took the time to roll back my driver to 197.45 or whatever. I'm running the Nvidia Geforce 6150SE 430 chip like some others, and this has apparently fixed my problem. Tested it red and blueside, no issues. I'll update if the freezing pops back up later.
  19. Nictus Beast form is epic. Really well put together!
  20. My opinion is the reverse sucks just as much, that guys can't use some female pieces. I have a Bond-style evil megolomaniac who wants, nay, NEEDS that shoulder cat to take him from "serious looking villain" into the realm of corny. Hair's been discussed already, and yeah... I'd like something other than our current long options. Headbands would be great too, and I recently found the need for a hat without hair on a male toon. Can't do that either. Also, those wrist guards you guys get that cover the back of the hand and forearm? Those are *epic.*

As for people thinking using the skirt or dress options might be weird, think of those bits used elsewhere. I'd like some better Shorts/Kilts options for men, my Cimeroran costume on my male brute feels more Celtic than Roman. And I can could the female Magic Super Booster coat to add flair to some of my other villains. (somewhat like Kraven the Hunter's jacket.)

I'd be all for them taking the time to uni-sex costume bits on both sides of the character creator. Heck, maybe Noble Savage should make another poll/topic asking what parts we would specifically like to be adapted.
  21. I don't know jack about builds, but I thought I'd pop in with two things: I've been using this build and I'm loving it, it's actually really fantastic for leveling. Two: The build is named Guin, and now I know exactly why you wouldn't use /Shield Defense. Excellent choice of powersets for this homage.
  22. I recently registered a threat group on Virtue with the intention of turning said group into a role-playing organization. After a couple days of thought, I realized the group would be more Vigilante themed instead of Villain/Rogue and would then of course fit better on blue side. So, the question is... if I remove myself from the group, is that group deleted and the name immediately up for grabs? Is there a waiting period till the group is deleted? Or, is the group's name permanently locked out from anyone else ever using it?

If it matters, I did not add a base to the group. It does have some earned prestige beyond the initial 20k.

    Thanks for your time.
  23. Had this happen today as well.. Did a log out to character around 4 AM, switched to check auctions then Quit to Desktop. About 12 PM today, I went to log in and got the message for the first time. Logged back in again and everything was fine... then went to quit to character select and was kicked back to the main log in screen.

A new problem to me, but yeah... as long as my account isn't being hacked, I'm not too worried!
  24. If my main were to ever go Rogue, it would be solely to access the Shard Shard. If he could ride there on a Shadow Shark, that would be pretty sweet too.
