I vote for experimenting with different types to see what you like.
Another idea is when you team with Defenders look at there type, see how they play, chat with them as you go along and somone might inspire you. Doing this led me to making a Rad/Electric that is so much fun. She has no problem being in a big group of baddies and is soloing pretty well.

I think people do not got to Hazard zones because there really isn't very much to do there.
I very much enjoy the atmosphere of Dark Astoria and occasionally wander in but not nearly as often as I go to Skyway, which I really don't enjoy trying to find my way around.
If we want people to do things in Hazard zones give us something to do there. -
