Quote:I cannot help but feel that in spite of all our rage, we are all still just rats in a cage to NCSoft. Are you going to go quietly?
If you work. Cancel.
If you have school. Cancel.
If its past your bedtime... have a nap.
If you want to give them an excellent reason to shut down.... just don't show. Dead servers are easier to shut down than active ones.
Lets enjoy our final time together and do what we do.
I am still playing the game, I will continue to do so even with the knowledge that my new Nature Affinity toon is probably never going to hit 50, and if she does most of the Incarnate path will be closed to her due to lack of time.
It would help to know exactly what time on the 30th they're planning to throw the switch. Midnight of the 29th? 7 am? When? Whenever it is, I plan on being in-game with my main.
Then after the screen goes black I am gonna take a Xanax. -
I am still being [relatively] nice because the fat lady has not yet sung the final swan-song for this game. So I hold my considerable ire in check, and wait to see what's going to go down with TonyV & co's efforts.
If that falls through, I will unequivocably invoke all the karma NCSoft deserves down upon their passive-aggressive little corporate heads.... twice over, twice over - times two. Seriously. -
I am no longer actually in tears when I am logged into the game; however the feeling that the Sword of Damocles is hanging over my head the whole time never leaves me.
I have things to get done meanwhile. I have a Brute who is finally going to take down Recluse; my main hero is going to get all the way through the Harvey Maylor arc, after procrastinating for years. I have probably taken upwards of 400 screenshots since we got the news. I have characters who are badging.... I find exploration-badging very relaxing for some reason.
But that final day when they pull the plug? I hope I am alone in the house at the time, because there are going to be some serious tears going on. My husband gets upset when I cry, so I want to spare him that.
I am waiting to see what NCSoft does in the coming weeks. If it were not for that, I would say right now that I literally hate them for what they are doing to all of us. Yes. Real-world hate, for this unneccesary and stupid decision that is hurting literally thousands and thousands of people. And for making us cry.
If they kill this game forever, may karma be a b!tch. -
That female is laughably out of proportion and indeed, just looks stupid. Not to mention the typical Asian infantilisation of women is not exactly attractive to most Westerners. A ten-year-old's head on a body with DD-cup boobs....? Stupid. Sexy in Asia, stupid to Westerners.
Perhaps it is just annoyance that NCSoft didnt even regard me as important enough to email regarding this change, but I think i will pass. I would play GW2 waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay before I bothered with this tripe....
One thing that bugs me is, we have TWO GW games but CoX gets axed? Why not axe GW1 and keep CoX? Oh right, that would make SENSE. -
I dont think I was the FIRST to suggest it, but I was certainly one of the most vocal adherents of Dismissable Speed Boost.
I was delighted to see the ability to avoid this pest of a buff in-game, and one of the first things my new characters do is go see Null the Gull in Pocket D. +recharge *without* running into walls? You can sign me up -
Quote:Good Lord, why would they do something like that.I completely understand. I like Champions and DCUO both. But they were always ALTERNATIVES to COH to play when I wanted a change of pace.
THere is however a VERY IMPORTANT THING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR STARTING GAME EXPERIENCE IN CO.
(And yes - it's important enough to "yell" in all caps to draw your attention)
The character creation engine is intentionally HOBBLED on your first character into and through the tutorial. The VAST MAJORITY of the costume choices available are locked down and menued in the way that you describe.
My advice, should you want to try again:
DON'T try and recreate one of your characters from COH first thing out of the gate in CO. Instead, choose one of the ATs they give you and stick with the costume they give you and run that character through the tutorial.
When you exit (level 6-7 likely) STOP THE GAME. Shut it down. REBOOT IT.
Come back, DELETE your test character, and start again, and the options will have been unlocked for you except for the pieces they've put behind pay and unlock walls, which still means that the character creator is opened up by an order of magnitude and is much more open to use.
It wasn't like this at launch. I HATE this change for CO because it is doing EXACTLY this sort of thing to new players - making them not want to play the game.
The game is MUCH better than your initial experience. Take my advice, try it again. Then make your decision.
And know that I still agree with you that it is not a replacement for City of Heroes. Nothing ever will be. But if all else fails and the worst happens. It's probably the best option we'll have available. That's why I'm working to try and help people make these transitions when this subject comes up.
I hope this helps you.
Thanks for the head's-up, I am downloading this game as I type, and I so desperately want this to be something that doesn't immediately make me want to log out in disgust, like I did the 1st time I tried it. it'll never be CoX, but something at least playable would be.... nice. -
Quote:No they did not: if you were not on Vent, you did that TF or whatever in a total vacuum of information. NICE.
4) Did they not do the same thing in text? This is just part of the hunt for the right group for you.
Since I was there for years before the Ventrilo crowd showed up, IMO that wasn't the right group for THEM, perhaps. However the group is basically dead at this time anyways - I was a foundation member, and one of the most active members [see: prestige mule].
*shrug*
Quote:5) Inanities? I'm not even 100% sure what that's supposed to mean. And is the source of the problem voice chat or your job? Please elaborate.
This is what 99% of the Ventrilo chat i have ever heard was. I hear a metric crapton of vapid, pointless and shallow yammering away at work - I'd just as soon not have it in my ear for an entire ITF, or whatever. Ventrilo places social pressure on those connected, which I would sooner avoid.
Plus i think its a sign of a good player, if you can play and type at the same time. -
Quote:I hate it so much, that when my SG of about 5 years suddenly insisted on Ventrilo chat ONLY, I ended up leaving the group. I can perhaps understand if its a big raid or something, but people talking inanities in my ear for hours and hours is a thing I have to endure at work; I really dont want it in my gaming.
Atlantea: I for one, HATE voice comm. At least for my MMO experience. It ruins all immersion in a game.
No matter how much I might like the people in question. Well, I ended up liking them less over this issue, but there you have it. -
Quote:The instant I found out it was going to be a world of 500,000 WOlverine clones, my interest was dead in the water. If I cannot customize my character meaningfully, I'm not interested. From my understanding Marvel wants to make an MMO where you're forced to play as their IP characters instead of making your own, which utterly kills any potential interest I'd have in a Marvel-setting super MMO.
Playing City of Wolverines and Iron Men would be super lame--wolfereen DPS + Dr. Strange Healz0r looking for Colossus tank!!1eleventy. And the Spider-Man clones...the horror
I have a feeling this game may never actually make it to launch.... I don't know, I just have a funny feeling. Mrvel doesn't seem to understand the MMO mindset too well. -
Quote:I am about worn out with these jacka$$es who dislike the fact that people want to save CoX; as if it mattered at all in their little world, as if it took money out of THEIR pockets, as if they have a horse in this race, when as far as I can tell they've never even played the game to begin with! And NOW, they have an opinion. WHO CARESI'm sorry if there's a simpler way to link this, I really have no idea how, but: [SNIPPAGE!]
You know what? Please forgive ill-humor here but these type idiots can feel free to kiss my Ghost-Widow-white posterior and start dealing with it. We are going to save this game if we can. No one cares if they like the idea or not, no one has sought their permission. They can feel free to sit down, ST*U and go play their favorite MMO.... if they even play one, who knows. What we do is none of this idiot's biznezz. -
Quote:This, I think. I think its actually GOOD that we have heard nothing yet. Someone, somewhere is mulling stuff over. What would be bad is a negative announcement from NCSoft. It'll take time. The business world tends to move slowly - especially in large corporations. I wouldn't expect to hear anything, especially any good news, before late October at best.
I agree that being patient is extremely difficult right now; the uncertainty is killing me. But we all have to just hold on. -
Quote:You mean you can fly, control the powers of the Underworld, knock people 20 feet away with one punch, and superjump tall buildings in real life? I agree, that is made of awesome.
Real life. 20x better (as long as you do it right)
How 'bout you stop trolling. I am getting really tired of you people who have nothing to say but many variations of "get over it." If your life is so magnificent, why are you here rubbing salt in people's wounds.
Get a life. -
Quote:God, that was annoying. As were the "why are you even doing this, you bunch of whiny children, the game is closing and you cant do anything, so why don't you sit down and STFU LOL" trolls. Some of them were. And some of them were complaining that help/LFG was getting spammed up by the rally and we needed to shut up and let people play the game.
If we don't do what we can, ain't ANYBODY going to be playing this game. You [general you] can start up an ITF any old time, heaven forfend people be using global channels to actually help the game and all. *disgust* -
Yes, I was there: 500 winters old. [or so saith my main.] In fact i am still in Atlas Park 3. My arm is a little sore from holding this torch for over 4 hours, but hey.... I'm a super.
I don't see how the passion evidenced by 33!!!!!!!!!!!! Atlas Park instances could fail to move even the most stone-hearted executives. Thank you Tony and Meta for trying so hard to save a thing which we all love so very much. -
Quote:the problem is, its not just NCSoft doing this. I get the impression ALL these companies are pretty bloodthirsty. For me I can't worry too much, I got bad Depression and thinking about this BullSh*& that is going with Coh and NcSoft.
How they treated everyone in Coh and that go's for the Dev and the fine people at Paragon Studio.
I can't think about this right now, So I leave it to you guys to save Coh if you can and good luck and Godspeed. -
Have to agree with the preference for a more sci-fi, citified game world as opposed to trees and landscapes, however pretty they may be.
I'm still drooling at the idea of things like Ascension armor rendered by that game-engine, though. Imagine. -
No, the entire point of a reboot would be to bring it up to par graphics-wise with a game like GW2. The mere idea of that..... is all kinds of awesome.
If that happened, I believe we could easily get another eight years out of the franchise. -
We may not be done yet, but the one superpower I for certain-sure do NOT possess is patience. Hear me out.
Its not that I'm unwilling to wait, its the uncertainty of it all that has me upset. We have no idea who is saying what to whom. we have no idea how receptive the owners are. We know nothing. And its killing me.
I admit I don't want to hear "dead forever, forget it, we're keeping it and wiping the servers and then destroying them to boot." But anything else.... and I know, everyone feels the same way - we ALL wanna know.
I could even take "yes we're killing this version, but CoX2 is in the works, see ya in 5 years." This total vacuum of information is the hardest thing of all for me to bear.
Yet no news is good news. Beats no. But..... *sigh* I have had 3.5 hours of sleep over the past 48 hours over all this mess. I literally cannot sleep. Ok enough whining, sorry everyone. -
I would try to keep busy meanwhile, but yes I would be back for CoX2. Even if still an NCSOft property.
I'm a pragmatist, and also hopeful that maybe they learned something this time out. [Doubtful, but still]
-
Quote:I would suggest they start caring, because who provides that "more money"? The customers do, that's who.In the end, I really doubt they care.
The only vote that counts is that of the shareholders and shareholders only want one thing: Make more money now now now.
They dont care about players, they don't care about employees or the environment or even if people get killed or what so long as they make a profit.
I don't care what: ticking off customers is a stupid thing to do, because they might well take those dollars elsewhere. Companies of all kinds act like they are made of cast iron and will be here for centuries. Not without customers, they won't. Just ask AOL. -
I think many companies - of all kinds - think they can treat their customers with impunity. Then it bites them on the @ss. Ask, oh..... Netflix for one.
I wonder if this sort of thing won't eventually make people rethink getting seriously involved in MMOs in general. You could lose all your work and emotional investment in a flash. That's ... not a happy thought for most people.
My suggestion is that these companies start behaving with a little more kindness. I cant be the only one carefully considering future involvement with an MMO over this. -
GR: Are we not all under enough stress already, it is not constructive to go around cursing and blaming people.
Quote:No one has said this that I've seen. At least not in this thread.I don't normally use namecalling, but I've seen too many people on this board acting as though I should just dust off my hands and say, "Oh well, off to invest money and emotion in another NCSoft game with no thought about how that game might end up in the dustbin in the exact same way." -
Its absolutely not that I'm looking to walk away from CoX, and the instant I find out I can do something concrete for it in the real world besides lie awake sleepless, I'll instantly do that thing. I'm trying to distract myself somewhat from the anguish I feel over this mess by giving myself a worst-case-scenario alternative.
I'm not looking to pat NCSoft on the head and reward them for what they did, I just want somewheres where [maybe] I can re-home some of my characters in another universe, if I should need to. That does not mean I feel any less urgently about CoX, or that I dont want it saved.
I say that not at all because I felt that's what you were implying, but to make clear my motivations in looking at other properties. Its true that this situation was rather poorly handled; but as I understand they are far from the first to rip an MMO-rug out from underneath an unsuspecting playerbase's feet. This issue is, in fact, perhaps the greatest inherent weakness of MMOs: someone besides you is holding the cord, and they can pull the plug on you literally at any moment. Not a happy-inducing thought. -
^^^ My point exactly! Just so infuriating on every level. I just feel like we got ignored. I dont know why a game that has lasted this long is seen as worthy of just being shoved off, there is still life in the franchise! There would have been plenty more had we gotten a great revamp.
When will I stop looking for logic in the world? I know I am not going to find it, yet I persist in looking.
