Ummm, am I wrong, but don't the prices for commons for IOs remain the same at the University tables?
Cause if I'm right then there is ANOTHER level between pvp, purples, LOTG, and set IOs vs SOs.
And that is COMMONS!
A COMMON IO build (which is sure as hell NOT difficult to get) is BETTER than an SO build.
Just thought I'd point that out because people keep forgetting that COMMONs are available at the university table. And also my memory might be wrong, but having them at the tables in the universities was something that I9 beta testers specifically asked that the devs keep.
So no, a full IO build DOES NOT vary in price with the market. And yes I know someone's going to come in and say "but what about the salvage?" Run a mission or two and you have the drops that you can sell to buy the salvage you want.
Now if one is talking about SetIOs that is a different level of effort as it should be.
Bottom line is that the level of build you are able to create (as listed above by others) is directly related to the effort you need to put into it. As others have alluded THAT is by design. -
I sometimes wonder if folks have paid attention to the last few years of buffing and "nerfing" that has gone or bother to read patch notes.
Thinking that the devs would make it easier to buff an entire team at once and make no changes to the powers is seriously ridiculous just based on past history. -
Quote:I know I really shouldn't, but when I get tells like that I have the STRONG as hell urge to get nasty with the sender.I had a 'stupid tell' the other day. Some bozo sent me a tell asking if I wanted to participate in a Hamidon Raid. Presumably he found me using the Search window. I say "presumably" because the Search window would list my level and he would see that I was TOO LOW LEVEL to get into the Hive. Sheesh.
I usually just quietly put them on ignore, then go get a drink. -
I've seen them reported them and moved on.
Complaining about them in b-cast is clogging up b-cast with junk (especially since now many of them don't even use b-cast).
Coming here to complain about them is nice and helps to relieve stress, but is not that productive. -
Quote:Yes but that doesn't necessarily mean that Silent Blade isn't a villain. She may be trying to convince her father to change because she has seen just how bad villainy is. However, it may just be fine for HER.Well during the level 20-30 Villain Morality mission, it's stated that the only reason her father turned away from his evil ways to do good was because Silent Blade convinced him to change.

Quote:Yep this is the part many folks don't seem to get. MANY FOLKS LIKE the way buffing CURRENTLY works.I'm "taking away your buffers?" What odd twist of pseudologic brought you to that conclusion? People play buffers now. People ENJOY playing buffers now. Maintaining the status quo, logically, would mean there would STILL be people playing and *enjoying* playing buffers. Making any of the changes mentioned here, with the issues brought up *against* them, WOULD reduce the number of buffers. I can say that by fact, because if (a) I'm unable to use my attacks/controls to the fullest because of the new END drain of maintaining 2-14 buffs (2 shields per teammate, 1-7 teammates,) or (b) I'm getting told not to play (given prior PUG experience, I'm HIGHLY confident this would not be an unusual occurence,) my buffers would be shelved, or reworked in some instances to solo-only builds.
Playing a buffer/debuffer/healer (in any game, not just this) is something that's a personally preference. You have to realize that a drawback to playing such toons is that they won't be attacking nearly as much as the toons that don't have to manage the rest of the team.
It's not for everyone, just like playing a tank is not for everyone. -
Quote:Do you mean creating a separate power for every single target buff in the game that can be used as affecting multiple targets? Cause I don't think that they can simply add that function to all single target buffs. (But I could be wrong).Or to sum up:
Some of us would like to not have to buff the way we do. Having some sort of alternative would be cool. Some of us don't because they believe it would negatively affect either gameplay or buffing attributes.
If we can leave aside arguments for now, here is a summary of ideas:
Changing current targeted buffs to toggle buffs: no one supports this.
Changing current targeted buffs to AOE buffs: no one supports this.
Adding a new mechanic that allows one targetted buff at a time to be used as a toggle buff: Some support
Adding a stacking attribute to buffs: Some support (though less if that would lessen the buff)
Adding a "multi-cast" function so you can buff multiple targets at once.
Let me describe that last one. I'm not suggesting that the function of single-casting on a target be removed, but that a separate function allowing for casting on multiple targets at once be added (similar to how MM buffs are applied). The endurance cost could be equal to the targets affected so there'd be no reason why the buff would be reduced.
Wouldn't something along these lines satisfy most of the issues brought up?
If it can be done (let's not get into how long that would actually take to implement. . . I'd guess issue 25 or 26 at the earliest if the devs were convinced that it was necessary . . . I personally I'm still not but would not be mad if they went that way) that way I would not object . . . provided that: NOTHING HAPPENS to the CURRENT single target buffs at all.
I simply wouldn't use the multi target ones. I think from what you describe it would be simply unfun to have to use rest or wait for my end to come back up, every time I used it. (like many MMs have to now after they multi buff their pets) And I don't think the rest of the team would stay in range (it'd have to have a range, I don't see the devs allowing you to buff teammates in other parts of the map--like another room---EVER) as that would becoming annoying quickly on a fast moving team. (Basically nearly every team currently in game). To me it would make playing a buffer worse and UNFUN.
Besides the caveats I stated I can get behind that IF the devs want to give it as an OPTION. -
Once again I agree with Bill and others.
It is PERFECTLY appropriate and fine to say "I don't like this suggestion because there is no problem."
However, some folks who claim others have no reading comprehension (oh the bloody irony) FAIL to see that that's NOT the ONLY stance folks against the suggestion are taking.
They are also pointing out the potential and valid PROBLEMS that the change would bring about.
For me personally, the fact that some buffs MIGHT take a hit (especially on my Kinetics characters) is enough of a reason for me to be FULLY AGAINST the idea. Full Stop. I don't need to refine a suggestion I don't think is needed. Period.
If the mods think otherwise they have the tools to correct that.
In summary, the suggestion (for all the various reasons stated) could make buffing WORSE. And sorry, once again the idea that buffing is some ardous task (especially compared to buffing in OTHER games) is completely ridiculous. -
Quote:Which is NOT difficult.Honestly, I'd simply say the Kinetic player shouldn't bother casting speed boost at all unless a teammate is moving remarkably slow (Granite tanker/brute or stuck in quicksand/caltrops, etc) or when the teammate's endurance is low. But what do I know? You're a kinetics, you're expected to keep speedboost on everyone that wants it all the time...which can often be all 7 teammates.
Please don't think that maintaining speed boost on 7 teammates is some arduous task.
It's not. -
Quote:THIS!Exactly. That's why people are mentioning these things, because the OP didn't think of them when he made his suggestion. Now that he is aware of them he can reconsider his idea and see if there is a way to adjust his suggestion so that it addresses everything that has been brought to his attention. Doing so will make his idea more solid and feasible.
Also known as collaboration that Leo was talking about.
Point out the negatives in a suggestion has lead to MANY great things being refined, properly presented to the devs, and actually IMPLEMENTED in game. That's the whole point of this forum.
Why anyone thinks pointing out the drawbacks to a suggestion is in any way shape or form a bad thing, is beyond me. -

Quote:It used to be is correct. I think that train left the station when we heard not a word about various issues that went on for pages. Such as the anemic emote pack. The dev/player community is (or was) one of the most attractive things this game has (or had). I don't want that taken away, not after I played WoW and watched Bluename after Bluename spout off things about the game that were absolutely incorrect.
Personally right before and after that, I've stopped caring.
EDIT: With that said when they are allowed to post/or have something to post I'm all for it, I just don't think it should be their primary or even secondary focus. -
Quote:Depends on the server. On Freedom/Virtue I (and others) have come away with 500-800+ vangaurd merits. Yes, that's a single raid.1000 is probably possible, but I would expect it to be quite unlikely, currently.
It is not only possible but happens more often than people think. -
Quote:Pretty much this. I'd rather the devs WORKING on issue 20, 21, etc than spending time on the forums fluffing our egos.Rampant speculation and conjecture! Woooooo! Everyone go crazy!
Unless you're getting paid by Paragon Studios or NCSoft, you have no idea why people aren't posting so much, other than the fact that some of the more vocal have moved on. Nakayama usually posts when he's on his own time, judging by the majority of his postings' time stamps, so perhaps he's got less of that at the moment.
I think the idea of posting something relevant when it's called for is a good idea, and when the leashes come off of those who aren't department heads yet, we'll see different names posting more often. War Witch is too chatty and personable to let the silence go for too long. Her State of the Game will be coming after the Winter Event, most likely, if not by the game Anniversary, which is when it usually happens. I wouldn't worry about a lack of fluff posts. I'd worry more about a lack of informative posts about future content.
It's not as if they can really post anything useful until they are near an issue launch. And most certainly we AREN'T anywhere near launching issue 20. At all. -
Thanks for all the hardwork! Good luck in all your future endeavors!

Personally I found the clone arcs writing to be insanely stupid (especially with the way some assumptions are made in them which are easily neutered just by the setting that the game is in). But I don't want to get into why here.
I don't read the boxes that pop up at the start of missions as they OFTEN don't match up with what the character I've made can or can't do.
The other modern writing/arcs aren't that bad. Some of the stuff in Praetoria is okay.
AE however has so much bad writing (even in some of those DEV's CHOICE arcs) that I've come to expect nothing more from the AE. -
Quote:having the zones look like that for two weeks would annoy me to no end.So, with the winter event almost nigh, it's time for me to sit by the fire, open the Baileys and paraphrase a quote by a wise old woman.
Zortel to Paragon Studios:
Where's the Tree?
Seriously, in Paragon at least, there's no:
Christmas Trees
Christmas Lights
Christmas Outdoor Decorations.
So there's not going to be frozen lakes or snow on the ground. Fine. Okay. But none of the things you always see in cities this time of year?
The city, as always, just looks sterile. Would it kill the studio to take some of the Ski Chalet art assets and... adorn the city with them? A tree here, some lights here, so on, so forth?
It'd be new, and shiny! And we all know how people love the newshiny.
PS: Here's a screenshot manipulation that a friend, Fanservice, did of Galaxy City. It's not got lights, but it has got snow, and IMO it looks right lush.
I play games to get AWAY from real life. -
You do realize that they will soon be nerfed now right?
-
Thanks OI for something I will never use.

Quote:I'd go farther and say that with these being related to the game engine, that they CAN'T be fixed with anything other than a COH 2.0. But that's me being a pessimist. What one problem would that be? Castle said "problems"... plural. He gave only one example but presumably there are other systemic problems he just hasn't listed. But again, he's fairly clear that the problems are with the system not with the Stalker deisgn anymore. The design is what they want it to be and they don't seem interested in adding more. I'm sure Shared Aggro isn't the only problem. It can't be. On the other hand, you are right on target with that last bit. I DO think the subtext of the OP is "Sorry Stalkers. Sucks being you." He doesn't make it sound like the odds of these systemic problems ever being fixed are high.

Quote:THIS, so very dearly, THIS.I'm unlikely to quit. Only way a company has ever gotten me to leave their MMO is telling me that they don't want me and that they don't care whether people are injured or die as a result of their proposed policies. Other than that, as long as the game stays fun, I'm good, and I don't see it ceasing to be fun anytime soon.

Quote:Trust me the AE community has./em spit-take, WHAT?!
I'm a regular here and I didn't know that! No wonder 4-star rating = 'might as well have deleted it'. I can't believe we haven't been repeatedly slapping the devs about this since day one.
Unfortunately, with GR and Incarnates, other priorities have been pushed to backburner--see also PVP and bases. -

Quote:Wow people's comedy/sarcasm detectors are inherently broken it seems.Man, that's a crappy opinion right there.
Heh, I've got to add that to my list of awesome examples of hypocrisy.
"Don't tell people how to play"--an inherently flawed idea; somewhere along the same lines as "don't tell people how to post."
It's like when someone says not to try to force your beliefs of right and wrong on other people, too--trying to force your belief (of it being wrong to force beliefs on people) on someone.
How about when someone complains that other people complain too much? I'm pretty sure I got all but one of these examples from this topic. :P
