Quote:I'd find that more useful than the current tripe he spouts.I'm not sure if there is anythign to do about it.
Moving away from the rest of the league is for their benefit - if you get away from them only you will suffer. If you stand around you can possibly wipe the whole league.
It would be great if the big blue smurf in Ouroboros could tell us helpful things about the special attacks that these monsters have, if we go talk to him. The big flashy messages that pop up on the screen aren't very informative. I'm being targeted? I expect my enemies to always be targeting me, how is this different? Etc.

LOL, at this thread.
You kinda asked for it Tony -
Quote:I'm taking exception of it being gated behind a tool that is inadequate to handle multi team forming in it's present form.
It really seems to me people are just taking exception to the system in general rather than the specific event.
Drop it to 8, allow folks to also be able to use the OLD method of spawning the event, and call it a day.
This idea that it can't be completed with just 8 is completely false. -
Quote:The original post:You are correct Grae Knight, the Winter Event takes place outdoors. I would like to add that "event" alludes to "a happening of significance to be enjoyed by a group or groups of people." For those who prefer to solo; unless you are new to this game, there is not much at all that can't be solo'd so happy hunting.
I see from the Beta forums that this year's Winter Event will probably require a minimum of 12 players to access, only via the LFG tab.
I'm sick of being offered content which requires huge (to me) groups. My preferred playstyle is to duo with my SG-mate.
We'll do the Winter Event once for the badge but will probably view it as a chore rather than take pleasure in it.
------------------
The person who started this is not even asking to solo it.
So where this idea that folks want to solo the event is coming from I don't know.
The only object was to the silly notion that MMO always means TEAMS. It doesn't. That has nothing to do with wanting to solo the winter event. It also has nothing to do with wanting the minimum dropped to 8 and having a more realistic way of forming for the event when player apathy creeps in during the later days of the event. -
Quote:So am I, but the minimum should be brought back down to 8, because in the later times/near the end of the event it's hard to find 8 who still want to do it on some servers. Needing to find more than a standard team becomes an issue.Personally, I like the large (greater than 8) raid setting, if the map can handle it. BAF can handle 24, UG can not. I have not done the Winter Event but I assume it is outdoors so I would be all for 12 or greater.
Also some folks wait in the LFG queue see it not forming and leave, or the queue states inadequate/unrealistic times an further frustrates people, thus making forming for the Winter Event harder than it should be.
Also you can't do instances while waiting in the Queue, nothing but street sweeping and marketeering. So unless it's changed from being an instanced mission you can't even do the baby new year mission while waiting in the queue.
I'd have no issue with a minimum of 12 if the stupid LFG queue system actually was up to do the job of forming things that need a greater than 8 minimum. It's not. And the event doesn't need more than 8.
Suggestion: Allow both the OLD method of forming for the event and the new LFG Queue to work for setting this up. That way those that want to go with the numbers they have can, and those than want to wait for 12 or the max event size can use the Queue to do so. -
Quote:Oh the hostility isn't directed at you.Hostile much? I never said I didn't agree with 12 being to high a minimum number for this task.
It's directed at the devs for linking more stuff to a tool that's completely inadequate do what they want it to.
Again, they should fix the issues with the tool BEFORE trying to shoehorn other content into it. the problems with it have been repeated in other places. Not going to repeat it here.
EDIT: And there I go repeating some of the issues in the very next post. -
Quote:I don't think anyone is arguing with that so much. You are correct. I do not get to make that choice. The developers do. And they did.
I think the only thing folks are asking for in general is for the minimum to be brought down to a standard 8.
I don't see anything wrong with that. -
Great, all the more reason to put the minimum back to one team. If 3 can do it, then 8 can. So no need to make it 12 and make folks rely on the completely useless piece of junk known as the LFG system. Glad you agree.
-
Just drop the requirement back down to 8.
Anyone saying that this couldn't be completed with just a team of 8 last year either doesn't know what the hell they are talking about or was on some terrible teams last year.
Or both.
Drop the requirement down to what it was last year: 8. -
Quote:hopefully the upcoming small teams/solo content should fix this.Bah. I meant easy as in "not having to run the same two things over and over again for it." Time-wise iTrials is easier. Hence why I'm using them for Alpha as well as everything else.
And yes, I miss shards. Getting a level 50 team nowadays seems to be iTrial or nothing. And I usually don't have time to lead my own teams. -
Having it be co-op really has nothing to do with the minimum size if that's what the devs are worried about.
At 8 minimum you can still do 4 heros and 4 villains and is easier to form when interest for the overall event drops to nothing in the last week. -
I wish players on certain servers good luck on consistently finding 12 players interested in the event in the later days past the first day.
With the old method you could at least try with 8 when interest dropped for the event.
Now not so. -
Quote:I think Uber's point is that playing the game means instances and missions which you can't do while in the queue. He was saying the person who said you can do the auction house and street sweep couldn't be serious, because that's those things really aren't the core portion of the game.Uh... you can do all those things, and they're not kidding?
Seriously, what game are you playing? You know this is a CoH forum, right?
You can't do any missions while in the queue. That was the overall and more important point. -
Quote:I don't think anyone is actually upset. It's just the general idea that ANYONE at PS thought this would be a good idea . . . a DAY AFTER halloween and so close to the online event ending. It's discussions like the ones going on in this thread that convinced the developers that the players are a bunch of childish whiners who don't know what's good for themselves. The more people complain about things like this, more we get things like, "Of course the players want more mega-raids; the people who don't are just a bunch of whiners" (feel free to insert whatever development priority you dislike for "mega-raids" there if you are a raid fan in order to understand the sense of the sentence).
Maybe it's the involvement of money, even if people aren't actually spending it. Personally, if something isn't costing me anything (and this won't, if I don't buy it), I don't see what there is to be upset about.
Many are assuming this came from the marketing side, or worse, NCSoft.
Just a general ribbing from the peanut gallery. -
Quote:This and the general sentiments of the thread.I thought 'new' meant 'new'.
Sorry for being cheeky, but there was a lot of noise made about something new each week. A bundled sale ain't new. Although, I'm not surprised. I didn't think you could put out 52 new things a year anyway. And this is a relief for those panicking that their monthly stipend was barely scratching the surface of all the new stuff. It's a chance to save for really new stuff.
And with regard to Temp Powers in general in the Store, I think they are overpriced anyway. I regard a permanent power to be worth 10 times a temp power. And a power that is for all toons to be worth 10 times one for just one account. If a permanent Rocket Board for all alts was 600 points, then the normal price of temporary War Whistle for just one character should be 6 points.
And this is too late a themed pack if the Halloween Event is ending tomorrow as scheduled.
The upside is I get to save my points for another week. -
Quote:And?Gathering enemies in one place is considered enough of an advantage to require the ambush nerf.
And if you kill a Hellion on the street you will outlevel it. That doesn't happen in a trial - see CEBR for the effects of constantly killing very low level enemies.
Tise dev sanctioned content. I'd rather not suddenly have LESS people playing it and the queue once again being useless.
Leave it as is. -
Quote:Agreed. It's also a ridiculous idea. The enemies in it give no more rewards than fighting the same enemies out on the street. There's just more of them gathered in one place.
If you kill a Hellion in DFB and kill one of the same level on the streets of Atlas, they give the exact same xp. -
I remember we had a huge argument/discussion of open vs. closed leagues when the trials were first introduced. For Snow to say this (and Arcanaville's recent comments) says all there needs to about how unfriendly the UG Trial is to Pugging.

Quote:Wow you guys have a loooooot of patience. Some of the stuff you all listed that you put up with would have had me cancel on day one.Agreed... (Although it was those evil, evil Asmodians gunning for my poor, fluffy little Sorcerer.
)
I started out with Aion during the first beta, and wanted so badly to like the game... I tried. I really did. I stuck with it for quite awhile after launch. I put up with the obnoxious PvPers, and the griefers, and the RMT spam. I tried to work around the forced teaming and the endless grind that was the crafting system. I took to gliding every chance I got just to have an excuse to use Kae's wings. (It really is unforgivable to make a game about winged, flying things and then deny them the ability to fly in 90% of the game. >_<)
In the end, though, I just... couldn't. Losing Kae's name when they did the server merge was the final straw. (I created him literally five minutes after the game went live on Day 1, and yet my appeal to get his name back was denied. I never have figured that one out.) I cancelled my subscription and haven't gone back.
I don't think NCSoft will ever make the same kind of mistakes with City that were made with Aion as far as playability goes... The starting point is too different, and unlike the US Aion crew, Paragon seems to have a fair bit of autonomy when it comes to their game... But that experience hasn't given me much confidence when it comes to any bits that NCSoft DOES handle. Like the billing and CS end of things...
Perhaps I'm getting less patient about such mmo nonsense as I get older in age. -

Kinda, but I think it was more so that the SSK system change/arrival was more palatable. Without that change I think the SSK system would have pissed off many players.

Quote:AKA let them play how they want and go about your own business. The people that do this don't care about what they skip. They are only concerned about endgame. They can't understand that this game isn't all about the endgame. In their minds they can't enjoy a game unless they are all powerful.
I say let them have at it. The sooner they realize this isn't the type of game they like the sooner they'll leave. Don't force them to be miserable. Then they'll only hang around complaining and scaring away players that would like the game.
Best advice on these forums in ages.
