Quote:Although I can agree with the frustration, from what you just stated (and what I've experienced in my own day to day work) I can can of see why there is such a lack of information. There's a pretty big gap between "we can't do a hotfix in an hour because of the risk of regression" and "it takes 2 weeks to make a build that flips a toggle on", as the converter issue was explained.
I assume you probably don't like making builds for small fixes, because making builds eats up a ton of engineer and QA time. The product I'm working on went code complete in December and is just shipping this week, so I get it. Any change, no matter how small (our last patch was adding a copyright notice missing in a few files) ends up provoking a full regression test that eats 4 QA man-days, now.
For my part, I'd be a lot happier with more information about when to expect a patch. Not just now, but updated regularly until it arrives. It's not really the waiting that I find frustrating - it's the lack of information about what to expect. -

Quote:Fair enough. To be honest with you I prefer NCSoft's approach. It SOUNDS LIKE there is less chance for a "simple change" to take down an entire game. *looks at a couple of DIRECT competitor mmos, in which this happened recently*I think there is just a difference in the approach taken by the other company and Z's post pretty much confirmed this fact. Cheers.

Quote:Mehhh, been there done that in the last mmo.Star Wars the Old Republic has laser swords used to slay Jedi Knights on Korriban. You cannot get much better than that.
I like to solo a lot, but if an mmo is 90% solo all the time, (due to how horrible it is to try and organize teams on the fly) then why aren't I simply playing a single player star wars game?
As an aside, THAT was one of the larger problems with the first competitor in the superhero mmo genre for this game. For nearly 6 months, trying to form teams on the fly was like having a root canal done.
6 months is a looooong damn time.
Hopefully that new mmo with laser swords can improve on this aspect quickly. -
Quote:Without knowing how much resources is given to each by their parent companies for each dev team, QA team, etc, yes, you very well can say it IS POSSIBLY about resources. There you go again, nobody said a damm thing about the "actual process" except you to try to be right, where you over generalized.
The fact of the matter remains other companies are able to put out fixes as they go instead of waiting like Paragon does, which was the "entire" point made from the start by me. You can say the others have more resources all you want because it was not about resources it was about the actual practice and they leave Paragon behind in that measure.
Unless you have some magic way of seeing the budgets of both enterprises, AND KNOW FOR A FACT that both teams have the same exact budgetary resources? -
I'd rather they don't rush out a fix just to meet double xp weekend. They should take their time and fix the damn thing right.
Do I wish they would have pushed back the issue to get more fixes in? Sure.
However, their parent company may not have allowed that or they might have a specific schedule in mind that overrides whatever the development team may prefer.
As someone who has been working in testing large IT projects and web deployments since November 2010, I can say with 100% certainty that SOME of folks in this thread are naive if they think the dev team has 100% say in when fixes are held back or go out. -
Quote:Netflix doesn't have Happy Days?I was watching Cheers on Netflix and wishing they had Happy Days.
I mean it's been 3+ years since I left the service due to their atrocious lack of content you'd expect for a service like what it is.
I see it hasn't improved. Good going, thanks for reminding that I save money every month not having Netflix.

Quote:Lies. IT WAS YOUR FAULT THEY CRASHED!!!!!!Trying to log on to my Grav/Time on Liberty; I got an error message, then a character model that was all untextured blank white. I rebooted the game & tried again; when that failed I decided to go off and have dinner (spaghetti, yum!) Then I came back and found out it was the game in general, not just me.

Quote:THIS! Shocked this didn't happen earlier with how anticipated this issue was. This could be a record! ALMOST one whole week since i22, and this is the first server issues we have had? I call it a total win.
It's why I didn't log in much till today . . . bwahahahhaha
LOL at me!

Quote:My definition of a support character is: if you choose Support in the character selection screen and the AT is listed as a Support AT. Widows and SoA are both listed as support AT's.
Arachnos Widow:
Primary Training
Secondary Teamwork
Arachnos Soldier:
Primary Soldiers
Secondary Gadgets
Unless Paragonwiki is dead wrong I'm not so sure about all VEATs being support. -
Quote:This is problematic in the COH Freedom setting. The problem with that approach is that it might not always suit the story they're trying to tell - all the mission types and mission tech are just story-telling tools.
For example, the DD Trial gets an important part of its story set up from Dominatrix's solo-only non-combat mission, and Diabolique's motivation for being in Dark Astoria is presented in a standard story arc - so the devs have used solo, 1-8 and 8-16 missions to tell her full story.
With premiums and frees existing, the devs just cut themselves off from being able to tell a complete story. Premiums/Frees don't get access to trials.
Then again there is Paragonwiki. . . so nevermind then. -
Quote:THIS.I don't know.
A task force would be OK, but I don't think it should be to "set up for" the DD Itrial.
All three- the arcs, the task force, and the trials- should be entirely self-contained stories that don't lead into one another. They can reflect different facets in the battle against Mot, but when you make one lead into the other, you leave a lot of people feeling, " if you want to finish it, you gotta do something you don't like to do."
I'll suffer through the occasional large group event or task force when I'm in the mood for it (and when my schedule permits it) but if I'm doing story arcs solo, its either because I want to experience the story or because I want to be solo. To get to a part in the story where I have to either leave a story unfinished or do something I'm not in the mood for, I tune the whole game out and go do something else.
Actually in beta the arc ORIGINALLY ended by telling you to do the DD arc.
For folks who are no way near the level required to survive in that thing, it was obvious that this was a problem. Thus the beta testers complained and it was changed to NOT refer you to do a +7 trial when you are a plain ol 50 with just the alpha slot opened. -

Quote:Not just no, but **** NO!Well, this march, aside from Beast mastery (I dont play masterminds) there's not much coming out at the market.
Some would love flying disk, others may love St Patrick pet...
I dont.
I see those items as a lost of resources and time. Maybe they are a good return in money so they keep doin that, or the dogs, lion pets...
Same for the detoggle travel powers. Some looks nice but you cant even select a colour for the carpet or rocket slide...
I wish they focus on power pool customization, and further customization for epics, ancillary and epic archetypes, even if they have to sell it at the market.
Hope April is better than march, I wont buy a single thing this month, and points getting piled wont make me buy more
If we only had Staff fighting this month...
Those things should come free just like the original power customization.
I'm fine with them continuing to do vanity stuff as long as it leads to funding for FREE stuff like more power customization.
That's the part with the vanity items that folks don't get. Folks actually BUY THEM. -
Quote:If they change them after the fact they can just refund the points. Not seeing an issue here.Main problem I see with this is that we're paying real money for these now so changing the rules all of a sudden won't go over so well for those who are directly funding their operation further. The market has been open for about what, 5-6 months now, and there's been no issue with these thus far. Synapse made one single vague sentence regarding Performance Shifter in Stamina but nothing in regards to anything else.
In regards to complaining about pay2win, please these things are like 1-2 bucks. You'll spend 10 bucks on fake clothes, but now that they're selling something meaningful it becomes a Paragon witch hunt? If you don't want to buy these, then fine, don't. Your game experience won't change. -
Quote:Except for the part where they occasionally DO fix pvp bugs or other bugs YEARS after the fact, even after they've been told about it repeatedly AND don't comment on it. This is NOT new.I think it was more the point that this change really serves no purpose. for instance, if you're car is broken and has a multitude of problems it really does no good to just change the spark plugs.
and in this specific case, were they literally never touch pvp bugs (see my first statement about it being more surprising that they actually changed something than the subject of the change) and when they were told about the bug multiple times, in cb and after with no response, you grow to accept it.
Anyone who thinks a bug (whether favorable to the players or not) is never going to get fix and "grows to accept it" is foolishly deluding themselves and ignoring the history of this game.
Just saying.
For anyone who grew to accept it's bugged behavior I say "sucks to be you" and "gg, do better next time."

Quote:WIN! I would have allowed this also. LOLHere's an interesting case that actually did happen in the realm of game mechanics:
Apparently, shortly after issue 15 launched, some teams proved themselves able to defeat 'The Invincible' Reichsman in the first encounter with him. Developers later went back and fixed this. Personally would have kept it and made it a non-standard TF/SF ending giving full rewards and the badge title "Plot Derailer" with the following description: "Congratulations, you've ruined the whole story with your stupid power gaming! Now go back and follow the plot rails like a good player!" -
Quote:THIS.I think it's be pretty cool if I23 had a revamp of all the Freedom Phalanx TFs to reflect the new situations in the game world - Positron takes over a revamped STF, Penny Yin gives a new TF in the same range as Sister Psyche's TF, Citadel's TF deals with the Council-5th Column war, and so on.
Those tfs need to be changed to reflect what is going on NOW! -

Although I get where Johnny is coming from, I don't see an issue with the option of being able to scale them up to AVs for teams that want it.
So again:
1. It should be an OPTION that a person can set.
2. And they should stay the DEFAULT as EBs. Period.
