Report a farm and it will be dealt with. Nothing other than that can be done by players.
[/ QUOTE ]
Already doing so, whenever I find one that isn't a simple recreation of stuff we already have in-game. However, due to boredom, I joined a new SG, made new characters... played through content... you know, the usual... and pretty much ignored AE lately.
[ QUOTE ]
Well there is something else you can do if you don't like that folks are doing nothing but playing in the MA: Vote with your wallet. Nothing at all wrong with that.
[/ QUOTE ]
Indeed, I recently returned from a short break in which I played lots of single-player stuff...
[/ QUOTE ]
Good for you. If more folks did like you did there would be peace in the world. (Or at least on the forums)
With all the people [censored] about MA this or that, I'm surprised I haven't seen a SG created here on the forums (hell with how many folks there are you could have a coalition LOL) formed of folks who DON'T want to do any MA missions.
Call it the CANNON SG.
Plan out to run story content from 1-50 on different servers each week.
Hell folks used to do this back in the day. I'm surprised no one is doing it now.
EDIT: In fact tell you what, if it's on INFINITY, VIRTUE or FREEDOM, I'll JOIN some toons to the sgs. Just tell me what times in the evening and weekends you'll meet and I'll run with you for some of my (limited) game time.
And yes think of this as a CHALLENGE to ALL who say the can't find teams cause of MA/AE. Put your money where your mouth is. I have plenty of support toons on those three servers.
I'd also be willing to ROLL lowbies on those servers if we are running from 1-50.
Have at it.
EDIT 2: Just direct me to the thread where I can post the toon names. -

The only way to stop power-leveling in CoX, as far as I understand it, is to ensure that if someone's character isn't fighting (i.e. door-sitting) that character gets nothing for the fight. I doubt anyone would play on a Server that has this as a core-rule.
The only way to stop farming, is to introduce diminishing returns and timers on tasks, much like TF Merits have. Again, I doubt anyone would play on a Server that has this as a core-rule, either.
[/ QUOTE ]
Firstly, there are not door sitters in ANY of the MA farms I've been on, so that would do jack shite to the MA farming. In those EVERYONE is required to fight or they usually get kicked. In fact the old PI farming was WORSE for breeding newbs, as it was mostly lowbies door sitting next to lvl 46s while a SOLE fire/kin or dual fire/kin ran the map. With no one else fighting usually. People would PAY high level fire/kins (fire/psi doms or brutes rediside) to DOORSIT. Ask to be paid to do that in an MA farm team today and you'll get laughed at and ridiculed.
That's what most folks don't get about MA farm teams.
MA hardcore plers would MOST certainly play on a server that enforced that rules. So that's a non starter to stop MA pling. Fire/kin teams could easily get around that also: Just have everyone sked and fight. So again a non starter to stop pling.
As to your seocnd point: Easy to get around, just switch from MA mission to MA mission. It only works on tfs because there are a LIMITED number of tfs. Run them all in one day, and you have to wait the next day for full rewards. There are no limits on the number of MA missions you can have. Soultion is a non starter as well.
People would play on that server, cause it's such a non solution that it wouldn't even matter. -

There is absolutely no reason to start your lowbie in Atlas unless you're a Peacebringer, it boggles my mind that everyone does it and then complains.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm sorry. I thought the fact that it was a low level zone - one of two that you have the option of picking on the hero side - wasn't a reason to pick it.
As I recall, it is the first option.
At any rate, how would a new player know not to go to Atlas?
Yes, players spend more time from level 40-50 (some people only play their level 50's). I just think that they should be running missions in any of the low level zones - especially in the MA.
It is clear that you don't care about the other players.
I do.

Seeing your point of views, it isn't realistic to see a big control or SK cap or anything to control PLing (to fix this MA question). As I said before, I think it'd be great to have dedicated to servers for people who would rather not PL. Like on Everquest, there are specific servers for people who want to Role Play and from what I hear, they're on WoW too. So it wouldn't hurt to have a couple servers dedicated to basically the same thing on CoH.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not before the pvpers got theirs. Long before your request THEY have been asking for a pvp server for YEARS.
EDIT: Add Hardcore RPERs to that list. -

So, to summarize:- To meet the end-goal that AE should allow players to level-up and grow a character from Lv1 to Lv50, AE needs XP.
- Exploits and broken NPC's/powers should be fixed a.s.a.p.
[/ QUOTE ]
YES. Which has been going on all along.
There have been numerous farms that have been nuked from orbit since the AE has been in existence. And I'm not just talking about obviously exploitative stuff like the comm officers.
General Comment:
Report a farm and it will be dealth with. Nothing other than that can be done by players.

I can agree with your last statement.
I want PL control. I want exp to stay in MAs. Someone gaining more exp/ influence/ salvage than I is a matter of who has more time than who. That's part of playing the game, and I extremely recommend anyone to get as much of that stuff as they want.
[/ QUOTE ]
Exploit control and pl control mechanisms ARE. IN. THERE.
Find a farm, report it. EVENTUALLY customer service will review it, and if THEY (not any freaking keyboard warriors on these fourms) feel it's a farm, it will be nuked from orbit.
That's what most folks don't get. It's the devs, CS and NSCOFT management that determine what is and isn't acceptable. Period.
If anyone doesn't like that they can unsubscribe. Nothing wrong with not subbing to a game who's policies you don't like -

I think the very best way to improve this aspect of the AE is for people to stop caring how other players are playing the game and just start focusing on enjoying themselves.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't care how other people play... until it ends up negatively impacting my own game.
The simple truth is: if power-leveling in MA reaches proportions that the developers find unacceptable, previous experience has shown that they'll do something about it. And whatever they do will likely affect us all.
Given some of their recent ham-fisted "solutions", that makes me a tad twitchy.
So, I'd like to see dialogue continue on the issue, ideas kicked around, because if it really is a problem (which is solely the call of the devs), it'll be addressed somehow, and I'd rather it were addressed in a manner that has minimal impact on my own game experience.
Thanks.
[/ QUOTE ]
DR would be a horrible solution and would have a large impact on many folks game experience.
Cause DR and changes that limit those that do things too well, was great for pvp, wasn't it?
Thanks. -
QR
Yes it does.
The devs want you to be able to lvl from 1-50 in the AE.
The exploits that gives 2434343 times xp (I'm exaggerating) should be dealth with.
But again the devs intended it to be 100% ok for you to stay in the MA from 1-50.
Anyone who doesn't like that needs to get over it. Xp in the AE is not going away. -

Now that Im more relaxed, cuz I was mad as a hornet last night.
Still borked, period. Hour & Half fight to never see him drop below half & watching him phase & go to full again. This fun how?
Why does redside become forced to have very specialized teams, while blueside can bring whatever, have a costume contest in middle of the fight, while half team is dancing, still win this? Makes no sense(yes bit over top, but folks are calling this the new Katie, gotta be a reason for it)
If this all broken, why was it even released? If folks pointed this out to Devs, bemoaned about it in the Beta, still pile of poo, then why was it released again?
Fact there is a requirement to have specific A.T.'s to make this work, again screws people over, imagine if your on a lower pop server for some reason you can't find a Stalker or a Mastermind or whatever, then how can they have fun doing this?
Why are we forced to have Shivans, Vanguard Robots, "insert random temp power here", to even do this Strikeforce, when said powers are suppose to be optional in this game, then all sudden becomes mandatory? (Sounds like LRSF doesnt it?, which is whole another angry)
At what point does this become a Fun SF? As I stated I enjoyed the first 2-3 mishes(when he woke up, kicked our but in the cut scene) I thought ok that was neat, then it went downhill from there.
All these are valid questions.

You don't need Shivans or any special temps to complete the LRSF. Just wanted to point that out. -

There are people who have played since beta and don't have a 50 because they are the lovely hybrid of casual and alt lovers.

I mainly used the HEAT/VEAT example because it is the first account-wide 'flag' that I thought of. Account-wide access that unlocks at a say level 30 or at the 3 month Veteran badge would also suffice.
The point I wanted to convey is to give brand new players time to learn the game before giving a level 1 player access to critter behaviour that they normally would never have to deal with until they are more experienced.
[/ QUOTE ]
Which is NOT what the devs want.
Sorry, but in closed and open they specifically stated they want folks to play in AE from lvl 1-50, irrelevant if there are custom critters or not, since YOU CHOOSE which missions you want to do. you can 100% avoid ALL custom critters, so that part of the argument is irrelevant b.s. sorry. -

As I approach my 60 month vetran reward I have begun to review my opinion of the game today compared to the previous 5 years.
My overall opinion is that the game has lost alot of the lustre and promise of the early days.
In the early days CoH was a game about creating a unique Hero and going out and thrashing the bad guys. And CoV when it was released was similar on the villian side of the equation.
The Nerf bat was weilded in more sense or perhaps with more explanation.
New issues introduced new content, new adversaries, new abilities.
All these things somehow managed to come together and create a more interesting, challenging, and improved gaming experience.
Yet now I am left cold with the release of AE and the preceeding issue, and the resulting effect on gameplay as a whole. Instead of promoting and expanding the existing gameplay issues have destroyed the continuity that once existed.
As an old Vetran I have run alot of the content out there, have learned through that content how to play the different ATs, and in general enjoyed exploring over and over the many different nuances of the zones, TFs, and challenges that different builds face in CoX.
Now, with AE in place, I find that much of the preceeding content is being skipped by "new" players and they are more and more ignoring the aspects of the game which made it unique and interesting. Instead of AE bringing a whole new level of interesting content to the playerbase, it's implementation has brought "instant leveling gratification". A new player can in very short order skip all the content of the last 6 years to achieve what goal? To become a level 50 and not know how to play it? To constantly have to ask basic questions that the typical 12mos vet knows because they actually ran content?
I shake my head every time I enter Atlas and Cap zones, so many "players" but so few Heroes and Villians. The content of the game now is just so much window dressing and wallpaper, nice to see it hangs around, but in function having no pressing effect.
What is the sense of having so many zones if there is no pressing reason to go into them?
I can recall the first time I got into Founders Falls, having SK'd my 12 Controller to a 38 Tank and joining them on one of their missions. The new zone, the different mission content, it was all exciting and had purpose and meaning.
But now AE has made such things meaningless. You simply enter the building, click, and viola you're teleported inside one of thousands of missions which weren't created as real arcs, but as power leveling methods.
Just like PvP, AE implementation was thoughtless in it's outcome. Instead of becoming shining stars of achievement in a great game, they are flawed models whose implementation does not build on the rest of the content. PvP isn't universal in access to success and AE is universal in it's access to excess.
Like the debauchery that brought Rome to it's knees, it appears that CoX has run the same course. Whoever the current Ceaser and Senators of the game are, they have lost the path and created a Colliseum to entertain the masses while the rest of the Empire collapses in disuse. Sit and watch the games, watch the slaughter of the Christians, the sea battles, etc. Don't worry about the rest of the Empire.
[/ QUOTE ]
The sad thing is my man. As a 60 monther myself I find myself agreeing with almost everything you said. Don't let the smart mouth people who reply 'DOOOOOOM' or mock you detract from your message. You pretty much have nailed a majour flaw in the current game that I've been saying ever since the inception of MA. If it runs it's course as it is now in a very short while we will be deluged with the clueless 50. Someone who is level 50 and can't wrap their head around something as simple as how a tram works or are a Bubble/Energy defender that doesn't use their buffs in teaming and can't figure out why their damage isn't the same as the energy blaster (and these are all examples drawn from actual occurrences in game).

I'd just be happy to have a "delete all" button. Nothing more required. Those who'll be interested in their ads cannot be blocked from doing so, and that is the real problem in this scenario. Everything else about the situation can be dealt with by a finite and very surmountable number of clicks on a mouse. And that's if you really feel the need to solve it; the only tangible difference between spam and no spam is a little red highlight on a highly ignorable button.
Hence the desirable addition of a "delete all" button. Those of us who are bugged by the red light can nuke all the emails with the press of a single button.
[/ QUOTE ]
This.
Also remember they have to be paying customers to send email. Once they are banned they have to purchase another copy of the game. We want them to keep buying more and more copies of the game to help add more revenue to the company.
[/ QUOTE ]
ding, ding, ding we have a winner. this is the only reason the email/spam system doesnt have an option to turn off. and dont listen to those guys about the search function, one of these posts needs to go up every week. until the devs implement a plan to turn email/spam off! if it wasnt for the money this would be a moot point it would of already been done. we dont want them to buy more copies because if they went away more players would be buying up those slots.
[/ QUOTE ]
no. you do not want a new topic posted about this every week. Trust me you don't.
Unless you want an official thread made, followed by any other thread you make about it being autolocked/banned by a mod.
See the farming threads being locked constantly and people being referred to the farming thread.

Despite no announcements on the boards, this page confirms NCSoft will be exhibiting at San Diego Comicon next month.
"Well, of course they are, why wouldn't they be?" you may be asking.
That's a legitimate question, but if you take a look at this page, two names that seem to be missing are Atari, and Cryptic, which is just odd, unless they exhibit under some other name and I don't know it.
[/ QUOTE ]
If Cryptic is set on releasing CO at the start of September, then I'm not surprised that they'd skip Comic-Con. They're getting into crunch time, and it'd be better to have everyone at the studio working away than have guys take at least a week off to get things planned, set up, actually run at the Con, and then back home. Paragon Studios isn't under the same sort of pressure that Cryptic is right now, having a large expansion and a free update to worry about as opposed to launching a brand new game.
That said, I'm now looking forward to what goodies we'll get leaked to us via folks visiting the Paragon Studios exhibit during the event.
[/ QUOTE ]
This pretty much. Also keep in mind Cryptic/CO might end up being there, as I heard some of them stated they regretted not really being in force at E3. -
[ QUOTE ]
Door-sitters are the ones who are truely PLed if you ask me. At least you'd get some idea of how to play your toon if you helped during the farm.
Whenever I'm asked to PL someone, I'll invite them and then tell them to either help me with bosses if they're an offensive AT or keep me topped off on HP/Shielded/whatever if they're support. If they raise a fuss, I'll promptly kick them and tell them that they shouldn't be complaining if I'm sidekicking them and herding my missions with them.
[/ QUOTE ]
That first 2 lines is interesting, as I've yet to be on an AE team OR Farm where doorsitting was allowed.
Prior farming teams in PI, just about EVERY damn one allowed some doorsitting.
So I don't think the Anti-PL crowd gets what exactly happens in AE farms. At all.
EDIT: Last line not directed at you personally. It's directed at the anti-AE farming people I see posting.
Newsflash to them: The folks an AE farms/pls are ALMOST always fighting or they are kicked. Fighting a mob of ALL BOSSES at cap level (50+) requires the ENTIRE team (low level or not) to FIGHT.
It's NOT AT ALL the same thing as the PI farms where a fire kin or fire psi dom goes in and just destroys everything, with most (or usually ALL) of the team door/baby sitting at the entrance and twiddling their thumbs, cracking jokes. Those farms are NOT (I would argue are NEVER) lvl 54 bosses. Put a fire/kin or fire/psi dom on such a map and tell them to take it on solo and most would faceplant so fast, you'd get a great chance to laugh and point.
yes I know some are leet and can do it, yada yada yada. Sorry, but MOST single fire/kins or fire/psi doms (i'd say 99%) cannot. -
[ QUOTE ]
I'm 99% positive that you can change your vote and it works fine for ratings... but you only get tickets from the first click each week.
[/ QUOTE ]
Okay. I have a feeling that this something most folks don't know/realize.
There was a whole discussion about having to play an entire arc to rate it being not a good idea, and about how you shouldn't judge an arc based on just the first missh, or one missh out of 3, 4, or 5 for that matter.
Based on those discussions, I'm getting the feeling that MANY don't know this. -
[ QUOTE ]
Did anyone else notice that in the rating section of the 2nd tutorial it showed the operator clicking each star from 1 up?
I had to laugh, it was too funny. Especially when my wife blew me a rasberry and did a "I told you so" at me.
I give up. I'm never going to tell people there is a "right" way to vote again. If that means fewer tickets so be it.
[/ QUOTE ]
ooooh. I always figured you only get one shot, so that you DID have to click on the 3rd star if you wanted to rate it 3 stars.
However, in the video, it makes it seem like you can click and unclick stars till you select the rating you want, and it doesn't matter until you close the window.
Is there any affirmative documentation on this?
If it's not until you close the window and hit "FINISHED" then I can see ratings changing as folks did various missions in an arc--i.e. I rated it 4 cause I liked the FIRST missh, but after completing missh 3 (or being UNABLE to complete it due to something like an unreasonable EB that isn't labeled properly) I find it's a turd and rate it 2. Ofcourse, if it's like that I would bet most don't know.
I ALWAYS thought it was the FIRST rating you gave it was what counted. -
[ QUOTE ]
Fair enough, aura.
Out of interest, do you avoid as a matter of course canon arcs thatyou cannot compete in one sitting?
Eco
[/ QUOTE ]
A year ago I would have said no.
Now, with such limited time (work across 3 states, significant other) affirmative YES.
Then again I've done just about ZERO canon arcs with my last 6 50s. Because after 4 years and 12 OTHER 50s, there isn't a canon arc I haven't seen yet. So cannon arcs are pretty much USELESS to me in terms of enjoyment and fun for many reasons BESIDES time.
Mostly just do SHORT AE stuff, some AE farming and tfs (the new TIME REALISTIC ones, not the old dreck known as the shadow shard and positron) on the weekend.
EDIT: With the newspaper/radio system also (before issue 14) you REALLY were NOT missing anything in terms of available missions per level if you skipped any canon arcs. Also you could bascially use Oroborous to go back and only do the short ones if you just HAD TO see the nice moldy 2+ year old cannon arc again for the 112232323th time.
Oh, and yes, I AM glad that there is FINALLY new dev content in issue 15. -
[ QUOTE ]
I enjoy long story arcs, and sequels are even more fun. I don't understand the overwhelming preference of most people to three-mission arcs with no sequel, but I'm happy that these sorts of arcs aren't the majority.
[/ QUOTE ]
For me and (some) others: Time.
As someone already alluded to, it is HIGHLY UNLIKELY that I will have the time to sit through all parts of a multi-arc story in one sitting.
Therefore if you split your story into multiple arcs (or mulitple incomplete arcs--which is what is being proposed in this thread) I will probably NOT have the personal time to go search for the other. Another HUGE problem (also alluded to by others in this thread but missed by some posters) directly linked to that is: if I'm interested enough in the story to go through all 3 (or more with more slots being available soon) parts, I will probably end up playing them on DIFFERENT DAYS. Meaning I WON'T remember jack diddly squat of what happened in part 1, 2, or part 7 (lol don't laugh--with more MA arcs being available soon, you just know someone is going to be trying this.) of your epic opus. Meaning that parts 2 and/or 3 WON'T make sense to me AT THE TIME that I play them. Guess what happens to an arc that doesn't make sense, in terms of star ratings?
Folks are sure as hell NOT going to go back to play part 1 if they don't remember. What's even more likely is that when they log into that toon the next day (or week later--as is often the case) they'll be like "bwah? part 2 of "blah, blah, blah"? "What the hell happened in part 1 again (/em scratching head)?" "Ah well, just going to drop it and move on". Yeah that's really great for the author that put all that work into a multi-arc opus to not have parts 2 and 3 played cause the player can't remember what the hell happened in part 1, cause they didn't have time to play all the parts in one sitting.
Multiple incomplete arcs to tell one story is NOT a good idea for this game of ubercasualness.
You can do it, but don't complain if people rate your story lower.
When one goes to play an arc they want a COMPLETE STORY in one setting.
Telling them to stay tuned to this "same bat channel" next week or to go look for arc etc, etc, is NOT something I think most would do. Sure some would, but as evidenced by the small sample in this thread I have the distinct suspicion that many WOULD NOT.
