Personally for me, unless they plan to open a NEW ZONE (preferably one not truly in Cole's control) in Praetoria there is no point for the arcs that extend that story line to be in Prae.
But hopefully the next set of arcs (i20) is for ranges above 30. -

Quote:qft cause it has to be said againI'm the type of player who:
1) has multiple fully purpled IO builds on all the alts I care about for that.
2) has always "dumped" any excess common salvage I had on the markets for 1 INF and NEVER vendored any of it.
3) currently has billions of unused INF scattered around on various characters.
Basically what I'm saying is that I (for one) couldn't care less that the vendors pay 250 INF for salvage. It has never bothered me once that I have ever "lost" INF dumping stuff on the market as opposed to selling to the vendors and it has never bothered me once that I've ever had to pay 10,000+ INF for "junk" crafting supplies that are technically only worth 250 INF. People who actually worry about "losing" or "making" money with vending common salvage are micro-managing things that are simply not that important in the greater scheme of things. *shrugs* -

Quote:Honestly I'm glad that the ALPHA SLOT is coming out. It was originally meant to be just a preview of the whole Incarnate system. That's what many folks didn't get, and why some folks thought that there would be a whole amount of content to go with it. That's just not realistic. Especially, since it was just intended to be a preview.I could be wrong, but I think that the new zone events might be something else for level 50s to do.
Don't get me wrong... more is better, but I don't think that 1) there is that little to do as 50s and 2) that the Alpha Slot was pulled entirely because of lack of things for 50s to do.
I think that the Alpha Slot was pulled for a few reasons, mostly because of how it was presented.
Now it sounds like we're getting a story arc to unlock it (I could be wrong).
That is just one change that I think is in there.
I'm sure there's more.
Honestly, knowing what we know now, I think a few people might have preferred they not delay it.
Me, I'm happy it's finally out and understand that they took the time to tweak it to draw in more people. However, I ALWAYS saw alpha as just the START and not the majority of the system. I was never expecting much content to go with it. /shrug
Especially right after they just released an EXPANSION. -
Quote:For a 6 year old game that's not bad.It sounds a lot higher than it actually is. It's been a good 7 weeks since release. If we estimate subs at around 75K (could be higher, could be lower, irrelevant for now). That works out to be 10 toons per account over 49 days, or 0.2 characters logging in to GR per account each day. For a game founded on alts and given the short level range of GR that really isn't that high.
It's a marketing number, nothing more.
That said, i19 looks pretty solid.
But will be more interested in sub numbers. -
I19 is straight to Open Beta?
Okay, I19 just got EVEN MORE awesome. sheesh I was only expecting the alpha slot and tfs related to them.
And 20 is the "big one"? W. T. H.?!!!!!
VERY pleasantly surprised. -
Good to see that the COH community is as casual as ever.
As others have alluded to if the Incarnate Alpha slot (and boy oh boy what we saw leaked on test from the OHTER slots) works how it did in closed beta . . . no one has anything to worry about. -

Brilliant Guide!
Yet a 3rd (and you pointed out a 4th) guide to point to when folks say "making inf is hardddd!!!"
-
Competition at it's finest.
Oh, and Nethergoat, this is why I've stuck to buying the TRADES waaaaay after events are over.
I'm very behind, but at least I get a complete story in one setting. And when I buy them, I usually get the trades at a discount.
Got's to do what we got's to do in this economy. -
If you are gone, good luck in all your endeavors BaBs.

Quote:The slider wasn't what caused teams in PI to dry up. AE most definetly was, and still is. And as you said those teams were not real teams, so why should anyone care.Sure some do. However, it's far easier to just jump on one of the many channels and say, ITF starting. I'm sure there are people who do it to say they did it. However, as long as the barrier for entry is there, it's easier for everyone to just form a team.
If you need to prove yourself, or are so antisocial that the thought of a team is anathema, then there is a method for you to solo to your hearts content.
When the slider was introduced, the high level teams in PI dried up almost overnight. Why? Many of those people were farmers who wanted drops. They needed people to team. It was an artificial barrier to entry. No one complains because those were lousy teams. Doorsitting stinks. Sure TFs have an artificial barrier to entry too. However, I've never been asked to doorsit. Those are good teams and if history is to be believed, you will see an across the board reduction on the number of teams running TFs.
How much is debatable, but every time a solo friendly aspect is added, the number of teams is reduced in that aspect.
I like that CoX is so solo friendly. I have times where I solo a lot. However, I also like teams and it's nice to get a team where I know I can play for 1-2 hours on a consistent basis.
For the antisocial, you can still do it. Or you can ignore them all together.
I'm just not seeing how giving folks the option to do what they can already do is a bad thing.
If the option existed tf teams wouldn't dry up simply because there are folks who like to run speed tfs with superteams.
Every doom mongering argument against opening more options in this game has been wrong.
Was wrong about the slider existing, was wrong about the markets being merged, was wrong about allowing to go back and play old arcs we missed, was wrong about side switching being allowed.
Would not be surprised if soloing tfs was introduced and all the predictions were wrong once again. -
Quote:ppssssst, you do know that AVs are SUPPOSED to be TEAM content right?I wasn't saying you were, just in general.
It's neither one really. I just think that there should be certain content that is team-only. I'm not really concerned with what that content is, but I feel that in an MMO, certain things should require teaming. It's just how I think they should work.
you also do know that it's not that hard to get around the team requirements right? That I can set up a solo tf right now with help form people online?
Also you do know that you can interact with others in an mmo without teaming with them, right?
With all of the above being facts I see no issue AT ALL with giving the option for lvl 50s to be able to solo any tf/sf they want.
EDIT: I'll note some of the arguments I'm seeing against being able to solo tfs are the SAME arguments I saw when the suggestion of allowing folks to set their difficulty slider to +4/x8 were made . . . right before the devs gave that option.
As I said then I'll say again: The folks who want to solo wouldn't be teaming with you in the first place. They simply use a well known trick to make said tfs soloable RIGHT NOW. -

Quote:And I completely disagree. I like the way Ouroboros is currently used.Perky you say?
The Ouroboros Express was a ridiculous idea anyway. I wouldn't mourn to see it done away with at all (I like the concept of the zone, I strongly dislike it being used as a subway station).
Seeing as how we know how the Hamidon looks like in Praetoria, I would bet money that that screen shot is form the PRAETORIAN OROBORUS, which we visit only in one or both of the tfs for Incranates.
I don't think any changes need to be made to the current Ouroboros at all. -
With all the stuff in Issue 19 I can forgive them.
IMO, there have been so many new sets in the last few months that I'm not lacking anything I haven't played yet.
Also I would assume they WOULD need to tap into the powers team somewhat to get alternate animations working correctly, thus taking up Castle's team's time. I'd also assume that some of those new tfs AND zone events are going to have some mechanics that will take up Castle's time.
And most importantly, Incarnates and the Alpha slot would further take up more of their time.
And we don't even know what's in Issue 20 yet that might take up the powers team's time even more.
Not at all surprised or disappointed that there isn't more proliferation. -
Quote:Yep I bet you that's the Praetorian Oroborus, since the Hamidon over there looks VERY different than Primal Earth's.Another thing that interests me is the crystal monster (DE) and those tentacles... HAMIDON!?
There is a poster in Praetoria that gives you an idea of what it MIGHT look like. -
Quote:I wouldn't mind if they did. There's a lot of nice QoL issues resolved in I-19. My only concern is that it continues to make the game easier and easier. That's not really a problem (heck, you can turn on +4/x8 early enough), but since I had to walk twenty miles to play CoH back in the day, in the snow, uphill, both ways, these new whippersnappers won't know how much harder it used to be
I get a kick out of the fact that rather than run from the upper corner of the TI map to Citadel (less than a minute), I'll zone to Ouro, then zone to TI. Can an insta-teleport power to any zone in the universe be far off?
However between all the various temps in wents, oroborus, base tps, vet to mission tp, and vip pocket d tp, travel was never an issue. -
Just make badges (like anniversary) that you can't earn again account wide.
STILL /unsigned to ultimate respecs.
Having played that OTHER superhero mmo I can tell you that being able to change you powers constantly on a whim is one of the things that has kept that game from being balanced to this day.
And it's just ONE of the reasons for saying no. So I see where the devs are coming from. -
Quote:Unless it's radically changed from what was in GR beta, the alpha slot didn't feel like any kind of alternative leveling system to me whatsoever.the first part of the incarnate system, a system of alternative leveling for max level characters, unlocked by specific content.
It felt more like an expanded Inventions system. -
Quote:Except that as far as I know he's a member of the community team, and not an actual developer.Far as I can tell this is how it is. And unlike other nc employees he actually spends time talking with the players. Someone make this guy the pvp dev already. I don't see any possible downside; he's already an employee there and its not like he can mess up pvp or anything.

15.99 x 500 players: $7995
They'd had to charge at least that much for a booster, cause they sure as hell ain't gonna get alot of pvpers who buy it, seeing as how there aren't that many pvpers left.
