  1. Only tools who think defenders are just healing/buff bots don't take attacks. Every toon in this game can deal damage and should be dealing damage. If you're not you're doing it wrong!
  2. As far as I'm concerned I could care less that you can do this or that with incarnate powers. Big whoop. I would imagine you could defeat AV's with a pet less MM with incarnate powers doing all the lifting for you.
  3. I agree, where's the control? The only thing I saw was an immobilize.

Also you can't have this until they make Control Archery for me! :P
  4. As it currently stands in game if you want a reason to fly that is tech themed and animated your only choice is Rocket Boots.

It not just like standing on the ground. Your orientation is different. A lot of attacks would have you putting one foot off the edge of the board standing on thin air. If they wanted it to be balanced that could have made it a purchasable power pool with extra powers in the set. The current board would need animations for all the power in the game created.

If it were just a disc that literally just used the regular standing animation it would be different. There are plenty of powers in the market that are freebies as you described them that don't take away your ability to attack (Ninja Run/Beast Run). So it has nothing what so ever to do with balance.

I still wish it were just a generic flying disc, it would fit my character concepts much better.

Thanks for the update, I guess I won't take the snipe. LOL

Still thinking this set wasn't thought through very well. Oh well.
  7. OK So the snipe in BR has a 100% chance to spread disintegration. Does the snipe have to be fired after disintegration or can I lead with the snipe and follow up with disintegration?

Glad to hear I'm not alone. Apparently its a mystery only to be known by those already in the know. That or the set just stinks.

BR/Poison is crazy amazing against hard targets.
OK, Tell me how to play Beam Rifle, because I just don't get it.

I get that its single target biased and that I should lead with disintegrate. The problem I am having is that I hit a target with disintegrate and then they start running at me. By doing this they get separated from the pack, so when disintegrate finally decides to spread there is nothing close enough for it to spread to. I have to disintegrate them, but don't kill them too fast otherwise you'll waste the spread. Oh yeah and don't hit my AOE until the spread happens. Is this how it's meant to be played? I am meant to keep stuff alive until all these wiz bang things take effect so the set will actually do proper damage.

Also its not like the in game descriptions do a fantastic job of explaining how to best play the set.
  10. Which is why I like the idea of Sonic. Practically no agro, very few click powers to worry about, only the two shields and they only need done every 4 minutes. Plus you get 30% -Resist on everything you smash.

Don't get me wrong empathy is still a good choice, but much less fire and forget than sonic.

(sarcasm) Yeah because you know melee characters have such a short list of primaries to choose from. (/sarcasm)

Its amazing the last couple of ranged sets they have created have been lackluster to say the least. Yet it seems each melee set they make just keeps getting better and better. I guess we know where their priorities are.
  12. Perhaps something like this?

  13. Well for a buffer, I would have probably picked Empathy, Sonic, Thermal, or FF.

Actually now that I think about it, sonic would be pretty good. Get them to have full inviz, running the debuff aura on you, following you with the AOE shield. Make it a defender, and I think you could easily cap damage resist to all but psi, by switching boxes and applying barrier and haven to your self.
  14. I still think even though pain might have some perks. Thermal is a much smoother ride, with thermal you don't have to worry about getting a ton of recharge to perma your shields. Also if you miss a pet because they ran out of range, guess what you can cast your shield again seconds later.

If you pets eat it during a battle you can get them back up and shielded again with out delay. With pain you are limited to the recharge of World of Pain, which is going to require set bonuses and six slots before it can be made perma. So don't expect perma World of Pain to early in your build.
  15. After playing this combo for a bit on a corruptor, I am really starting to get a very MEH feeling about beam rifle. The DOT for disintegrate really makes this set feel slow. I wasn't expecting it to be like fire blast, I knew that out of the gate, but this set is feeling like it kills less efficiently than Electric Blast or Dark Blast.

Also after considering the length of recharge on the Nuke which I feel is unjustifiably long considering the slow performance of the rest of the set, I get the feeling I am going to abandon this concept.

Beam rifle feels like the worst performing blast set I have played to date. I have 50's of the following blast sets Ice, Fire, Dark, Archery, & Assault Rifle. Also I have played all the other blast sets to at least 40, with the exception of Sonic and Energy blast. So I can speak from experience. Whats really sad is it seems this set is balanced around disintegration spread, which has a pathetic radius and is not at all reliable.

Perhaps I'll seek a PL to get a better feel for the set at a later level. But WOW the devs must hate us rangers. Because this set is pathetic, and dual pistols wasn't much better. I am really getting tired of sets balanced around a gimmick.
  16. No one ever found a solution to this? I have been having this problem for well over a month now and I can't seem to figure out how to fix it. I would rather not reinstall if I don't have to, but if it will fix it I might be willing to go through the effort.

Nice, now I want to see if I can get the name BRiTA. LOL
  18. Thermal, no further investigation needed.

That is unless you love spending time recasting your pets. Then go pain.
  19. Well out of the choices you posted Bots/Dark would be the keeper for me.

    My personal favorite MM's
    Thugs/Dark
    Bots/Traps
    Demons/Thermal

Color me confused. Must be a reference I don't get or an inside joke.
  21. Seriously, I was sitting there wanting to make my self a Beam Rifle character last night after I got hit with the inspiration for a new toon. I was having a difficult time choosing a secondary though.

My requirements for a secondary were as follows:
    1.) Must be all ranged.
2.) Must provide extra AOE damage.
3.) Must fit a tech theme.

My choice came down to Traps or Trick Arrow. I went with Trick Arrow because it would benefit from energy damage of the beam attacks. I also didn't choose Traps because most of the powers require you to get somewhat close or in the middle of the group to get the greatest effect.

Just wondering if anyone else saw this as a potential power combo and what sort of results they are seeing.
  22. I am surprised to see DM suggested as the most survivable primary for a scrapper. Sure the -ToHit and extra heal are handy. But the fact that the set lacks any substantial AOE seems like a pretty big deal. I always thought part of a Scrappers survival is kill speed. If you have to run around the mobs one by one and kill them it seems like its going to take a very long time to flatten an 8 man spawn. Heck I've always felt the reason that Dark Melee gets a 30 second damage buff was to make up for the fact that they have to run around punching everything in the face one at a time.

Most survivable for a Tank sure, but as a Scrapper I know I would at least like to have access to one real AOE in my primary.

@ Ice Knight.. That is a seriously impressive build. Your skills in Mids far exceed mine with melee characters.

Seems all I am good at is building toons with high recharge or high ranged defense. LOL
  24. Sweet.. SS/FA it is and I am already 28. Thanks for the advice.
  25. Ok I would like to make a character that I can use to help PL friends with.. Should I be considering a SS/FA or a SS/SD?

A second use of this character will be to fill in as a secondary meat shield on serious stuff and as a primary meat shield on less hard core encounters. So if one will be sturdier than the other I would like that info as well.

I have a claws/elec at 44, but I have a feeling that SS is going to get the job done a little more efficiently.
