SS/FA or SS/SD PLing farming Character
There is no faster farmer/plvler than SS/Fire. Period.
/SD isn't very good at surviving ambushes, which is the fastest kind of farming map, because it's defensebased, not resist. Not saying it can't be done, just that you will likely rely on orange inspirations to keep you alive.
But. That's in the AE.
For general play, /Fire is very squishy barring significant IO investment. /Shield is easily softcapped to all positionals.

SS/FA
As Riora said, there isn't really competition if you want it to be done quickly.
SS/FA/Soul will do you well for non-farming content - Darkest Night is an amazing debuff.
SS/FA/Mu will do you well for farming content (more AoE!!)
I would suggest to start with a SS/FA/Mu, and after you have made some more money make a second build and do SS/FA/Soul.
Sweet.. SS/FA it is and I am already 28. Thanks for the advice.
Just a quick question, what mission ID are you using? I made a SS/Fa brute to level based on the youtube video that's been floating around and i only made it to ~20 in a couple hours. I tried out a fire farm mission but i can't pull off killing anything at level 50+, i just run in and die even with maxed def/res
SS/FA will be the lesser of the two for the other role to which you aspire. But it hugely beats SS/SD on ambush farms.

Curious what IO's do people generally go? IO's that boost melee defense?

And then focusing on recharge.
Ok I would like to make a character that I can use to help PL friends with.. Should I be considering a SS/FA or a SS/SD?
A second use of this character will be to fill in as a secondary meat shield on serious stuff and as a primary meat shield on less hard core encounters. So if one will be sturdier than the other I would like that info as well.
I have a claws/elec at 44, but I have a feeling that SS is going to get the job done a little more efficiently.
