When I hear people putting together the serious Master of runs, they want a sonic and a bubbler on each team. Even a non-level shifted Mastermind who was willing to bubble was welcome.

Norse myth Heimdall has three sons, each with a different skin color. The dark-skinned one is named Thrall.

But that's real mythology....I thought that Thor writer Simonson said that the Asgardians were mystic entities who didn't even have humanoid traits at all at first. That's pretty much in line with all Marvel mystic entities. Their physicality is part how people see them, part whim on their part.

Galactus only looks human because we're human.

More recently, the comic has been trying to pull the god line on us, but it rings very false to me. Not because I disrespect ancient Norse religion, but because the comic book is about powerful people and their adventures. I appreciate people who want to tell me ancient gods were just like superheroes, but frankly, that seems somewhat offensive. There are people who still worship these entities. Superheroes aren't real mythology--they're wish fulfillment with conflict thrown in for interest. Sure, a lot of them draw a lot from mythology, but that because that's how human patterning works. Just because Spider-man seems based on Anansi the Spider-man (except for being white since Anansi is an African god) doesn't mean he should be worshipped as the latest Anansi incarnation. Superpeople don't and shouldn't fit into the mold of real gods. We should never forget the stories are here to make money for corporations.

As for Elba, he looked the part of a grim guardian. Heimdall's appearance has never been important before, so he's always been depicted as a nondescript tall aryan guy. (The horns are important, though.)

More people ought to be upset that Marvel's Loki is black haired. Mythology is clear that he's a redhead, just as comparative mythology implies that he's a counterpart for Lucifer. Making him black haired throws that out the window in favor of a more simplistic light-dark symbolism. (Marvel's Sif is grouchy because she was cursed with black hair, for instance.)

    Best. Edit. Ever. XD

That's why we have to "arrest" citizens with katanas and rifles.
  4. Admittedly, I'm not real familiar with empathy. Have you considered getting the Fighting pool? Two builds, one for high level with only the epic armor and one for exemping down, with Tough and Weave there for you. Even a little bit of extra defense can keep you up longer.

I used to also use the Epic Dark pool, with the self-rez for bringing me back faster for when my teammates were busy and the disorient aura power for when I was in the midst of a pack of minions no one had control over. The aura was decent for regular foes--against +4 Praetorian Clockwork, it ended up just attracting their attention and got me killed faster.

Might consider a macro for /follow to keep up with a teammate. They grab aggro from you, even when there is no tank, any melee with Invulnerability or a damage aura will do the same. Even an active blaster will tend to drag attention away from you.

(Do not always use auto-follow and auto-heal. It tags you as a bad empath.)

I believe "defeated" is the proper term for making a macro for targeting a dead friend you want to Vengeance (useful because if someone dies, the team is weakened as a whole and can use the extra help) and rez.
  5. Remember the Rule of Cool. If those guys inside or outside the bank is clever and flashy enough, they tend to get luckier. The reader understands that. Having a name gives you an upgrade.

Of course, if General Zod decides to rob a bank, his utter coolness will stomp all over the opposition, to the point he doesn't even bother to kill his heroic opposition.

Never go with the stupid, random accident "because it's realistic." It doesn't matter if a cement block COULD take out Spider-man, it's dumb and the reader feels cheated.

My favorite superhero fiction was Adam-Troy Castro's. Even silly gimmick villains were depicted as godlike to the average person, and their actions swift and inevitable.

    Name Sit-ees

    Spellsinger.

I was deeply horrified by the actual noises that sonics made. She's a Sonic/mind troller, I think, and tended to die crossing the street when I played her. Also, it feels like everyone is staring at me in envy when I play her.

Still kind of interested in her, but it may take tedious fiddling with the game sounds to make her really attractive again. I wish more people made mods for this game. :P
  7. Terrible, terrible urge to make character called 'Fantastic Coffee.'
  8. SS/Shield is boring and silly. Martial Arts/Shield is good, bouncy fun and visually more in keeping with the Captain America concept.

I did have the odd feeling of "women are not being insulted in this movie."

Jane Foster is the love interest, but she stays fully clothed, she's a scientist, there are no grotesque sex scenes. Instead, Thor is the one who is the eyecandy. (I was a little bored by the romantic subplot, but considered it obligatory to staying true to the origin.)

Frigga, Odin's wife, might not be a warrior woman like Sif, but when Frost Giants invade her husband's sick chamber, she picks up a sword and kills one. (Curious to note that, in current canon, she's not the mother of either Thor or Loki.)

Sif. Sif. Sif. Looks strong and beautiful. Gets a wonderful Bad *** Moment. And despite the vague love triangle going on between her, Thor and Jane, her feelings are hinted very subtly, without violin strings soap opera.

Jane's companion, Darcy, is not played as annoyingly cutesy little girl or jailbait sexpot. She's just a tagalong who gets the comic lines. (I will forever wonder if Mjolnir has the soul of a kitty cat, now.)

I didn't think the trailer was that good, really--my decision to watch the movie was based more on fangirlism. It's a fun movie, and it wasn't conveyed well enough.

    I hate that joke.

    It requires dumbness.

My CAT has a freaking snapaway collar for when it gets snagged on bushes.

Robot, I do think you're overreacting a little. Speculating that CoH 2 never happens is speculation, just not happy kind. However, considering there's 3 MMOs for supertypes and 1 more coming (not being exact), I believe there's money enough for CoH 2 to happen. Especially capitalizing on all the work already done in this game--plus, the guaranteed fanbase. Ideally, they should wait til after people get tired of the other stuff...

Anyway, Paragon sounds right, it builds on the CoH mythology without the clunkiness of being listed a sequel. Regarding Nemesis, I WISH this game would steal that idea. I never played Champions Online long enough to get a nemesis, and I really loved the idea. My current computer can't even run the game, unfortunately.

The real question is--when will there be a World of Crafting???

Annotations for some of those? The Faye Dunaway sounds interesting.

Oh yeah, and boo to Mr. Moffat. I don't watch Dr. Who and I have no trouble whatsoever not knowing a thing about his storylines. You have to be frequenting forums and videos and news that is ABOUT Dr. Who to be spoiled for Dr. Who.

And it is NOT the right of creators to decide how people digest their stories. People decide how they want to digest stories. Whether it is the wrong way or not, like reading the final pages of a book first to decide whether it ends in a way you care about and is worth buying the book. Or deciding you don't want to watch that movie/read that book that everyone else is watching/reading, but you want to know enough to not be confused all the time when people keep talking about it, so you read the super detailed spoiler notes (or watch the parent's notes for kids when deciding what material you want them having).

You certainly wouldn't pick people who blather on the internet to watch your supersekrit show if you don't want them blathering on the internet about it.
  12. They were listing sports plays? Petition it. Complain to the company. Somebody thinks they're being cute and it ain't.
  13. I made Zombie With An Axe and Axe-Wielding Zombie....Never failed to amuse me when people say the city was saved by Zombie With An Axe or that they want to grow up just like me.

  14. Okay!

Finally finished filling my level 21 (24 after Moonfire) fire/fire tank slots with all 20-25 IO basics. Of course, I craft my own recipes because I am always poor and the AH is boring. Mostly good prices on the recipes, though.

My 50 even got her Apocalypse with a chance for negative damage for only 300 million, as opposed to the 450 it had been running at. ^_^

And it's been speculation for years that all superpowers have to be psychically based, not physical, in order for them to work as shown.

That's actually not too bad! I literally spent years before hitting my first 50. And really, only made that because I buckled down, refusing to play any of my alts. RL also has a habit of distracting you..

You know how they say trollers don't really become fun to play before 32 and pets? Ff/rad is kind of a gimp below 40, and your first epic hold. Not to mention, I wanted to solo for rp. My scrapper, in comparison, was obscenely easy to level. They really are CoX on EZ mode.

Of course, since finally having the inf to IO myself out, and Patron Powers, and Incarnate powers, my bubbler is actually more capable than the scrapper now, who's still just training IOs.

It's been so nice to have the *option* of what to play at high levels that I'm planning on focusing on the next toon I like on Guardian, my fire/fire tanker.

"Funning for president" just has all kinds of interesting connotations.

    Re: Superman,

I've been told that Golden Age Superman was given global citizenship by the UN. Modern Superman has had trouble with being ordered around by General Lane and President Luthor. It seems logical.

Superman is always going to be an American symbol, regardless what citizenship he uses. (Modern Superman's birth matrix gave birth to him on American soil, if it matters.) And his mindset is still American. The "American way", as previously referred to, is an outdated political ideal and a bit ridiculous to use nowadays, unless you're making a period piece.

    or

11b. Permadeath. But you gain 4 new slots with 4 completely new characters that have the same name as the original character but different powers. Then in a couple months the original character returns and the others vanish.
..I thought something like this too. Your costume gets randomized and your power choices get shuffled around. Possibly even changed powerset, with an optional mission to return to the way you were.

Then I realized how annoying that would be if people were depending on you. Being dead means not being able to participate, which seems enough punishment for a game.

However, players SHOULD give drops. Boss drops of our level. Of course, the system would be abused--you'd get designated punching bags hiring out to get stomped and players with multiple accounts killing themselves. Any system designed to ensure actual effort went into it would be deconstructed and farmed ("We both take each other to 5hps, then I kill you, so it looks like we really worked for it!").

    .......

.....................And I JUST got my second 50!

(Scrapper, from the advice of all the people who listened to me complain about soloing a Force field/Rad blast Defender.)
  22. I'd just like to say that Wei Jun has twice left team/leagues that I've been on, in order to let someone else play.

    ....He makes me feel guilty.

    Tanks for the memories! \o/
  23. I believe it's running at 100 billion inf.
  24. I like to play Defenders (my main is an FFer). I like to PUG and I like to solo.

In teams, I am the weakest member and I die first and often.

When I solo, pre-Incarnate I had to use the lowest settings and it is still painfully slow for those below 40.

Vigilance is a great help, but its still not very fun to solo. I know Defenders are meant to be on teams, but teams are not always available. So I HAVE to solo.

In CoH, the ATs are given the ability to help each other, but the non-support classes are able to solo relatively easily.

My point is, I don't think the support classes should be FORCED to rely on others. We should be able to target ourselves for buffs/heals.

There is no logic to not allowing us to target ourselves. Just as the other classes still team, despite the ability to solo, the support classes will still get more benefit from teaming than soloing.

If the support classes could target ourselves, quality of soloing would be improved and less frustrating.

If support classes could target ourselves, we'd spend less time standing around trying not to get aggro in teams.

If support classes could target ourselves, we could PARTICIPATE more in teams, instead of feeling like bots chasing people who are actually having fun.

If support classes could target ourselves, we might do enough damage in Incarnate trials to get the rewards we need.

It feels like support classes are being punished by not being allowed to use most of our own powers. In fact, that's the explanation the Defender forum gave for it's mythology of City of Heroes.

I know there are other games, like the Industry Leader, who prefer the holy trinity of ATs. Maybe that's why the classic Dungeons and Dragons cleric was changed to pure supportive priest healers. But City of Heroes has a funner, more free-wheeling style of play. We don't need to hunt down a Stone tank for average missions. We can take whoever wants to play and work together.

I would ask that the theory behind not allowing support classes to target themselves be rethought. If there are good reasons for it, feel free to tell me why.
  25. A decent leader should have made sure there's a reasonable spread of ATs in every team. Most of the time, I buff my team and whoever I'm targeting through (it's just polite). However, sometimes things just don't seem to be going well, like in the BAF run I was forced to lead. >8[ In between trying to buff and boom and type and wondering if I was doing what I should, it felt like the AVs took MUCH MUCH longer to go down, and there were multiple sequesterings, so I started frantically buffing everybody in the league.

Finally got a pick off the Rare table for that one. >.>
