The term "casual" means different things to different people. For some, it refers to amount of time a player spends in a game. Less than 10 hours per week equals casual to some, while spending 20 hours or more would mean that you're a hardcore (another hard to define term) player.

For some it may refer to the number of high level characters they have, the state in which those characters are outfitted with powerful IO enhancements, the number of badges a character possesses or the length of time in which a player has stayed subscribed.

The only definition of casual that I've ever seen from the development team is their statement that game difficulty is balanced around characters using SO enhancements and not set IOs. This seems to imply that in their mind a casual player doesn't seek IO bonuses for the most part, doesn't engage in the market and isn't interested in taking on content that is too difficult.

So, how would you define yourself? Let me provide some admittedly arbitrary definitions.

Casual - Uses mostly SOs; little/no market engagement; little/no farming; few 50s/high level characters; typically many alts; plays around 10 hours a week or less

Average - Uses a mixture of SOs, cheap sets, may have a few expensive IOs per character; moderate market engagement; has 4-10 50s/high level characters or dozens of moderately leveled alts; plays 10-20 hours a week

Hardcore - Uses mostly IOs, have purchased/used purple sets; has 6-20+ 50s/high level characters or up to hundreds of moderately leveled alts; will often farm for inf; may have heavy market engagement; often has more than one account; plays 20+ hours a week

Using the definitions above, I'm probably somewhere around average and hardcore.

Playtime: around 20 hours/week, has played since retail release (though I've taken long breaks since then)
Enhancements: common IOs or set IOs, pretty much ignore DOs/SOs
Play style: will farm on occasion and engages the market actively, only one account
Characters: 11 level 50s, multiple characters level 30+
I don't think there is a definite set definition for the term...its very relative and subjective to other players. I'd say that if you're posting fairly regularly on the game's forums, then most would consider you more than a casual player.

    "_NA"?

Here's a link to the thread with instructions on how to get your named changed: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showp...57&postcount=1

Oh, sorry, just noticed he put it in his, just the alternate color threw me off...but here it is again. :-)
  3. If you can't go the download route, and find it too slow or something, and copying the directory is out of the question, you should be able to use your original install disk if you still have that and the updater will bring it up to speed from there. If you don't have one of those, you can go to the store and get a copy of the Architect edition disk (updated to issue 14) for usually around $20. That'll also get you a free month that you can add to your existing account ($15) and your choice of the Magic or Cyborg booster packs ($10). Costs some money, but only $5 you weren't originally going to spend more so not TOO bad (if you exclude the booster packs...if you were, you make $5).

But does that make any sense? I already feel they're stale compared to the SOs that I could pick up [If I knew which tech store had that lev]. And the sets, some of them start at 16.

I think I might be before the point of non-diminishing returns here.

I have three core toons. A 43 scrapper, a 23 blaster, and a 18 scrapper. My 43 is almost exclusively DO and SO. My 23 is totally IOs though I'm having a hard time finding EndMod. My 18 is just random crap, he's claws and has been levelling so fast I've taken him on mishs with absolutely nothing slotted [and he did fine.]

    Thoughts?
The biggest benefit you'll get is that the enhancements won't degrade as you level up so there won't be as much pressure to re-slot when you out-level DOs and SOs, which helps in the teens since you can level relatively quickly. I also have a level 50 with all the crafting memorization badges which helps with the cost a lot since you can usually get all the cash you need to do it for level 15s in one or two mission runs unless salvage is running really high. Architect tickets are good for that too still if you wanna run one of those. If I didn't have him, I would probably stick to DOs and SOs until level 30 or 35 when common IOs are almost always better than SOs (+3 SOs can still beat IOs until level 35ish i think). But IOs are almost always better that DOs at the lower levels.

Personally I don't worry too much about IO sets until level 50. I just figure I only want to go to the trouble of sorting all those out once and I want them to be the best when I do. Common IOs do more than fine 99% of the time anyways. But thats your preference there. If you can afford the sets, and you want to spend the time to work it out, the set bonuses will help some as well.
  5. My guess is the door assigned to it was a door that was removed when they put the AE buildings in there. You could try and petition a GM in game to see if they can help sort out the mission doors. Also, you could just drop that mission from the contact. I've heard of issues with missions before when it was obtained before an issue hit, but not run until after it went active, especially when new enemy groups are added, that cause missions to screw up with incorrect enemy groups or bosses. I'd say if you have your heart set on playing that mission, petitioning a GM would be your best bet. If you don't care, I'd suggest to just drop the mission.

Oh...and welcome back! A lots changed, especially in the last few weeks. I would suggest reading up on the changes for issue 13-16 at least if you've been gone a year. Especially some of the issue 16 changes with super side-kicking and exemplaring. Here's a link to a page on the wiki that can help you find that information: http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Issues
  6. Try and remember...issue 16 wasn't all of the power customizations that can and will come...it was the start of them...most should be on their way soon enough...just takes time.
  7. I'm pretty sure all of the double-day-job spots are gone. In the vanguard base if you go by the base portal or into the hospital, the vanguard base day job power goes away and the base portal/hospital ones come up. Same with the pocket D base portal, vault reserve, and hospital ones. In the openning base on CoV, the hospital there cancels out the arachnos base job. As someone said, if there are any left people don't want to advertise them, but I think all of the obvious ones are gone now.
  8. Interesting ideas. Not good with the numbers and not sure if they would balance with what is already in the game, but sounds like good options to fill in the gaps that exist between heroes and villains...though after going rogue, that will be less necessary. I would be interested in seeing them in action and seeing how they play as an experiment. Great ideas.

Probably the biggest issue in the way of customizing the kheldians is they don't have the tech worked out completely to customize the shape shifting powers (nova and dwarf form). Its the same as the problem with Granite Armor. Of all of the powers, I'd say those would be the most wanted customizations in there (to change the color of your squid/lobster). Especially after the 'uproar' that has come from not being able to customize granite armor, but you can the rest of the set, it probably better that the devs wait until they can get those technical issues worked out before the open up color customization on the kheldians.

I've heard that there have been cannon and role-playing issues also cited as reasons for no kheldian customizations yet, but I REALLY hope because some people think kheldians should only be white or purple for some kind of story reasons is not a deal-breaking issue for allowing us to have different colored squids and lobsters.

But, like others have said, it sounds like they are in the works...just not done yet. Remember, issue 16 isn't all of the power customization we're going to get...its the beginning of power customization...it takes time to do...though, you could argue that when they started allowing customizable weapons could be considered the start...

At the top of the screen there is a language selector in those pages.
  11. While not as good as buying the actual booster pack itself for them, you could just give them the $10 and say what its for.

I'm an old CoX player, my EU account has 30 months Veteran Rewards, but for my comeback on CoX (after CO disappointment) I decided to buy the US version of the game, to play on populated and active servers (unlike the EU ones...), so I had to create a new account for US, and I'd just like to have my Veteran Rewards back on this account.

It shouldnt be hard for NCsoft support to verify that I have the two CoX EU and US accounts on my NCsoft account. So, I post here to ask if anyone had the same problem, or just to let you know. Maybe I should send a GM in game ? Or maybe it's written somewhere that you cant have your Veteran Rewards on both your CoX game accounts.
As far as I know, the vet rewards are tied to your account, so if you start a new account, you start your vet rewards over. If you were to start up a second account on the US servers in order to dual-box with the game, they wouldn't grant you all your accumulated vet rewards from your original account into the second.

Granted this is a little different since its the EU vs US servers. I'd say to make sure that your payment and account information is identical between the account for it to even have a shot, then hope you catch a customer service rep on a good day, but since this is a completely separate account, for it to have a shot, you'll need some way of proving that it really is you and identical account information is a start to that.

  14. I have a dual monitor setup at home. One will house the game full screen, the other will house anything else (Mids, Herostats, Your favorite Internet Browser, AIM, Yahoo, whatever). But a second monitor can be expensive.

I really hope that this isn't a deal breaker for getting customization on the EATs. Yes, there's a back story to them, but has it ever been said why Khelds are that color specifically or that they can't? Can there not be different 'races' of the forms? It wouldn't break cannon much if at all to allow color customization for them. Its not like comics (or soap operas, or movies, or tv shows or anything really) NEVER change a bit of back-history to fit the current story a little better anyways. If people are REALLY REALLY wanting to stick to the same colors for role playing reasons, well thats why the power customization is optional to do. If you're happy with your power colors, you don't have to change em. Don't punish the people that do want to

As an aside, it's probably going to get done sooner or later, once they can figure out the tech to recolor replacement avatars used in Dwarf and Nova forms. Although VEATs would be easier to do, they probably won't be done until HEATs get the treatment, for parity's sake.
BABs has been working on that tech with Granite Armor for a while. It has the same issue as the HEATs. Once Granite is worked out, they should be able to figure it out quickly for Nova and Dwarf forms. Give it time. The developers only have 2 hands and it took them like a year and a half to get what they do have done. Pool powers, Epic powers, VEATs, HEATs, Granite, all of it I'm sure is are on a priority list somewhere. Just gotta let them get it done.

You mean SOs...IO recipes are purchasable from the invention tables at universities or abandoned labs or in the vanguard base.
  20. Also, the origins of the SOs dropped by the critters are based on the origin of the enemies you're fighting, not on what you are. If you want to try and get SOs via drops, try fighting 'tech' based enemies like Freakshow (I'm sure there are others, I'm sure you can look them up on the paragon wiki if you want to go that far).

SOs can easily be bought by the RWZ, Cim, Shard, or PI vendors as well if you want to go that route. At your level, you might want to seriously consider looking into common IO recipes. They take more time to craft and make, but are more powerful and don't expire as you level. Check out the recipes on the wiki, get the new Mids (they just updated it with all the issue 16 stuff). It can really help you plan out a character if you really want to get out of the rut. At level 40, you can probably get some decent Set IOs as well to boost your character even more.

Now, the Avatea post Aett_Thorn linked to does appear to have lists of these powers. That's great!

Thank you both for the help!
My bad. They had an announcement and a patch notes one right after the other. I put the patch notes that didn't have it. The announcement did: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showp...34&postcount=1. Sorry about that!

If you want to go back to the original colors, why would disabling color selection be a problem? You can do it on a per-power basis...not just for the whole powerset.

Also some of the power's original powers won't be able to reached when customizing powers because we are only allowed two color options. Some of the powers use many more than 2 colors by default. For example, I believe someoe pointed out that Warshades have blue, pink, black and purple all mixed together in them. If it were customizable with only two color choices, we couldn't get it exact with the custom colors.

For the MA alt animations with original colors for the effects, it would be a good suggestion that they might be able to add in quickly as an option during a patch if you PM BABs about it and ask nicely.

    Pet's Now Zone?!

Zoning pets seemed buggy to me as well...sometimes they did, sometimes they didn't with my MM. When they didn't, any toggles I had running also dropped. My fire imps on my controller...2 zoned once and 1 disappeared (according to my pet command window), dismissed them...then went in the next door and the third showed up.

Set bonuses still have the rule-of-3-levels I believe: if you exemplar down, and the level of the enhancement that gives you the set bonus is more than 3 higher than your exemplar level you lose it. Most of it should be detailed here: Wiki: Exemplar Effects on Enhancements
