Did I miss a patch note somewhere?

Hmmm...

I saw Niviene's "Welcome to I-16" post.

That said, I was pretty surprised when I took my L35 Villain into Bloody Bay,
waxed some NPC mobs and got ... XP for them???

Yep, I knew that powers up to L30 (BB is a L25 pvp zone) now work in there,
but getting XP for PvE kills in the zone came as a surprise...

Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, mind you, but this seems like a bug,
given that the toon in question is 10 levels above the zone exemplar level.

What part of the patch/picture am I missing here???

In addition to keeping powers five levels above your exemplar level, you now earn XP when exemplared just as you would fighting at your native level (unless you turn that off and go with the classic "earn inf only" exemplaring, found somewhere in the options menu).

The crappy lower-level TFs like Posi and Synapse just got a whole lot more enticing.

The option is located as follows:
Options > General > Misc > XP while examplared > Earn XP / Double Inf No XP

Doc Mech-Nec (Exalted): 50 Bots/FF MM
Crey Radiation Tank (Exalted): 50 Rad/Rad Corr
Servers: Exalted, Triumph, Champion
Alts: 32

I guess you're missing the part in the "Welcome to Issue 16" post that you linked to that says:

Quote:
  • Exemplars will now earn XP and a level capped person will get XP converted into influence like exemplars used to.

It doesn't matter HOW you're exemplared. By default exemplars get XP now. This can be changed back to the "old" way in the options.

Five? Did this change form three?

If it changed, it changed sometime in Closed Beta. It's been five since Open Beta started, according to the first Open Beta patch notes...

Thanks.

I never pay attention to Beta or Test patch notes, since I cannot get onto the Test Server usefully (for a couple of years now the Test server runs at freeze-frame speed no matter what Issue and no matter what I do) and everything changes so much it would just create confusing memories of rules changes that never went live.

So I wait for the Live patch notes. They weren't up yesterday, as far as I could find; maybe they'll get some out today.

Live patch notes, posted yesterday afternoon.

Which, for some odd reason, only makes a passing reference to supersidekicking and exemplaring changes without going into any sort of detail. The link I posted earlier (the initial Open Beta patch notes) has more information about that stuff than the live patch notes...

The "Welcome to Issue 16" post actually has more detail on Supersidekicking and the new exemplaring than the patch notes, but still omits the note on the "keeping your powers five levels higher than your exemplared level" thing.

So, see? It's not just beta patch notes that can be misleading/incomplete/confusing.

When was it three? You always lost all your powers down to the level you were exemplared to I thought. Set bonuses still have the rule-of-3-levels I believe: if you exemplar down, and the level of the enhancement that gives you the set bonus is more than 3 higher than your exemplar level you lose it. Most of it should be detailed here: Wiki: Exemplar Effects on Enhancements

They're not talking about enhancements. They're talking about powers. Now, when you exemplar down to (for instance) level 15, you still have access to your level 16, level 18, and level 20 powers....it's awesome!

I know that it does that now. I'm asking before when did it allow the powers from 3 levels above before issue 16 came out.

Maybe someone was mistaken, thinking you get the next three powers, not the next three levels of powers.

Five extra levels either gives two more powers or three, depending on a number of factors.

It didn't. They're talking about closed beta, I guess, cos open beta it's always been five levels.

You're right -- I assumed that the post I quoted was really referring to keeping set bonuses from five levels above the exemplared level instead of the old three levels above, because the idea that they'd let you'd keep powers from above that level is so far outside the box, I couldn't even wrap my head around the possibility!

Since I've been ignorant of the whole beta experience, this took me completely by surprise. I exemplared a lot under the old system (sounds like everyone will be super-sidekicking now, so it won't be so unsual) and this seems like a neat change from my perspective.

Sorry if my inability to grasp the (to me) completely novel concept caused some forum confusion.

Interesting. I read that, but it wasn't very clear. I rarely team (and never
exemplar when I do), so my experience is the "zone exemplar" from PvP
zones, and in those cases you always got XP as long as your normal level
was at or below the zone level, so the first part didn't seem especially
noteworthy to me.

The second part "level capped" was unclear, because at 10 levels over
the zone level, I'd have figured I was "level capped" for that zone. So,
do they basically mean L50 when they say "level capped"???

Anyway, thanks for the explanation - interesting. I'll have to poke around
in the options and see what's changed there...

Yes. Level 50 is the level cap for the game.

No big deal...it happens. Just saw that and though I had misunderstood how exemplaring worked for the last few years.
