  1. Hello and welcome to the journey of the Dominator.. IMHO one of the most rewarding AT's in the game.

Dominators in general excel at two things. Control and Damage. Unlike their cousin the Controller, Dominators do not focus on support. The Dominator playstyle I tend to describe as Lock em Down.. Knock em Down.... Control them and then take them out. Dominators when domination is active excel at control and they in general do more damage that Controllers.. You can always use control and you will ALWAYS need damage.

  3. Merging the AT forums is an extremely bad idea. Please do not treat your populace like they are idiots that dont know how to look or find things.

The biggest thing COH has going for it is an extremely strong and helpful community of experience players who I have found over my seven year run more than willing to help people out and help them figure out what to do and make suggestion on how to do it.

Merging the AT forums will simply cause confusion and it is completely unnecessary.
  4. Ive got a KM/EA brute now running at level 22. So far so good.. since the new Mids has ocme out I have worked out his build to level 50 and I think it will be pretty potent..

When I get to 50 im only going with the Spiritual Alpha for added recharge and the Ht Debuff and Recharge/End Recovery powers as well..

Im working him as a Super Speed character concept which I think works very nicely..
  5. I dont want to hear about the cottage rule and how they dont change powers around because we actually had that happen withe Gravity initially ( remember when we DIDNT have Singularity as a pet?? ) and most recently we have seen Energy Aura for melee toons get a rework because it was underperforming horribly...

Well guess what.. Gravity has been underperforming for YEARS>. We have had promises of it being looked at.. promises of animation changes...

Enough is enough.. Its time to fix this powerset..
  6. There are a few suggestions I think would make a huge difference...

    1) Remove the KB from Solar Flare.. ts just ridiculous that some of the dev team just doesnt want to make a change that almost the ENTIRE community has been asking for...

    2) Exactly what is the Flare on Solar Flare.. Here is another suggestion.. remove the Knockback or Knockdown effect altogether and add a Mag 2 Stun onto Solar FLARE.. with the flash effect..

    3) This would THEN make Pulsar worth a crap because at least it could STACK.. You know how the WARSHADE can stack Mezzes ????
  7. I was thinking about going down to Premium.. now I think Ill just keep my sub..
  8. Every Scrapper and Stalker.. just cant get into them.. have made em.. just cant play em..

Grav/Kin Controller.. This makes me very sad as it was one of my original 50's but Gravity is so lacking.. I was on a team with an Earth controller and I felt like I was a little kid watching a bully take away my favorite toy watching the Earth actually CONTROL things better than GRAVITY you know one of the primordial forces of the UNIVERSE !!!!

I watched the New Avengers with Graviton.. and I just lowered my head and cried... why oh why cant Gravity be SOMETHING like that...

I would LOVE to see a dominator Set with Grav Control and Gravity Assault.. I would LOVE To se a control set that actually has a Grav Buff or DEBUFF secondary..

Or at least make Gravity suck less.. but I doubt that will ever happen..

    I have deleted...

    Kin/Elec Defender Level 50
    Elec/Kin Corruptor Level 50

both did not play well at all

Sonic/Psi defender Level 50 good conceot for him.. just couldnt deal with looking at the shield all day...

FF/Nrg Defender.. made it to around level 26.. got bored...

Rad/Fire Blaster.. I might revisit this toon if I can get a defense build.. he drew so much aggro it wasnt even funny...

Also erased a level 35 Ice/Ice Blaster but I made an Cold/Ice defender I like better..

but the Grave Kin... how i WISH you worked better...
  9. This is my live build.. I bought the purples when the set was in beta and the sleep and confuse sets were still very very cheap

  10. In all honesty I play a lot of blasters and mez isnt that big of a deal when you know what to and how to handle it. I dont have any defense build blasters and all of my blaster can deal with mez just fine.

    1) Carry Break Frees... I mean really if your a blaster that doesnt carry break frees.. thats just silly. It is a get out of jail free card.. I carry a minimum of 5 on ANY toon that isnt resistant to mez and even mez protected toons carry at least two because sometimes even they getoverwhelmed..

    2) use your first two and in some cases three attacks. Slot them.. A lot of people skip slotting the first power because its minor damage. I slot that baby.. always have.. always will its an ATTACK... slot it. Some secondaries allow you to get three ranged attacks you can use while mezzed.. Slot em.. Use em..

    3) Learn your enemies.. seriously.. learn what mezzes and how.. Get THEM before they get YOU !!!

4)Your your abilities to your advantage.. Some of us blaster have holds, stuns, fears, etc etc.. USE THEM.. again.. GET THEM before they get you..

My Elec/Elec Blaster.. Three single target holds.. two at range.. that means I can hold a boss fast.. I can also end drain the heck out of any foe.. people think end drain doesnt work.. WRONG.. It does work.. I can fight TWO Death mages at a time with NO problem.

Airhammer my NRG/NRG Blaster.. Has several things.. ONE he has a LOT of range.. A LOT.. two damage Range HO's in every single target attack, stealth and stuns.. Hit Boost range.. attack from a distance.. Use Power Push.. you know that crappy power a lot of people skip.. well that power will keep a foe on his butt ALL DAY.. When they get close ( IF they get close ) STUN EM...

Some other blasters I have use different tactics but they all have a way to deal with mez issues..

If they gave everyone mez protection.. then just remove it from the game because its pointless..

Dont stop blasting because some foe mezzes you.. work around it.. learn to defeat it..
  11. I Think this is a good thread and I'd like to share some of answers to your questions. I consider myself a casual player, however I have to state that I consider myself an aggressive one. I have been subscribing for a little over seven years now.I am on for maybe two-three hours during the week. Maybe a few more on weekends. I have a lot of Alts but I dont suffer from altitis. I tend to make a toon.. play it up to 50, outfit it the way I want and then make another toon.

    Now onto the questions.

    Quote:
It seems like the only discussions on AT builds and play strategies to be found on these forums are relevant to power gamers who are intimately familiar with "the numbers" and have seemingly unlimited access to every IO in the game, no matter how rare or expensive. Am I the only casual player who also isn't a complete newbie?
I think you make the mistake here of assuming that everyone who builds an AT using Mids is a POWER gamer. That is certainly not the case. I use Mids all the time to make effective builds but I am not a POWER game by any stretch of the imagination. I use Mids to help me make an effective and fun build which will not necessarily fall in line with a lot of what you see on the boards. Keep this in mind as well. These builds might not even be peoples ACTUAL build live. Sometimes that are " What If " builds or things that people ASPIRE to but do not actually have.

and NO you are not the only casual player who is a complete newbie. I have friends that have been playing for years and could care less about crafting IO and some who have no idea how to use them and dont care to do so.

    Quote:
How do you guys afford to fill up an entire L50 (+1) character with the rarest IOs in the game? How does one do this without farming or spending three years playing the same toon every day?
In all honesty money is very easy to come by in this game and I am not a marketeer but there are things I have learned to do.

    1) SELL SELL SELL. If its not a recipe or salvage that I am going to use.. SELL IT

    2) Use reward merits for rare salvage and recipe rolls and SELL IT.. When you do TF;s you get reward merits. Turn those into items you sell for influence. Thats stuff you get in NORMAL gameplay at ALL levels not just level 50.

    3) AE missions.. do them.. do them for fun.. turn the AE tickets in and SELL THEM !!!!!

    4) Hero and Villian Tip Missions.. do these and get the Hero/Villian Merits.. again this you can do as NORMAL gameplay.. And many tip teams will take toons of ANY level.. you get xp.. drops.. influence..

    4) SELL PURPLES... thats right.. sell em.. I almost NEVER save purples recipes.. I have brought some as I needed them... but I usually sell them... I made a billion inf last week selling off purples that I got as drops.

    5) Turn off XP !! (OMG NO HE DIDNT !!) Thats right when you turn your XP off you get DOUBLE the influence.. use this to build XP at certain levels.. This is really good to do around the time that people start running certain TF's as they level like Sister Psyche, Numina, LGTF etc etc.. Esepcially good with the ITF.. Lots of mobs.. Lots of fighting.. earn double influence..

    Quote:
When I join teams with my old L50s, which pre-date the Incarnate system, I am self-conscious about the fact that I might get booted for being less than half as effective as everyone else who seems to have full sets of "purple" IOs (or whatever), top-tier Incarnate powers, and so on. I found WoW to be a dreadful experience because keeping up with the requirements of "end game play" was like a second full time job. Prior to the Invention System, COH had always felt like an MMO that had escaped that trap. I'm not so sure it is like that anymore.
Well here is the reality of this game.. You cannot see my build.. You can see what powers I picked.. But you cannot see what I slotted. Sure you can see some of my set bonuses but that doesnt really say anything about HOW they are slotted nor does it say anything about HOW effective I am at using them.

Case and Point.. a lot of people are building these defense heavy builds for non melee types. I have ONE build like this.. ONE.. I see a lot of softcap blaster builds out there.. I dont have ONE of these builds and I never will.. yet I am no less effective on teams because I know what I am doing and how to do it.

You can put the most purpled out, IO'd out build in the hands of a moron you know..

    Quote:

Is there still room in this game for casual players who want to experience the max-level content, but who don't want to turn farming into another life's career just to obtain the necessary IOs to be useful on a team nowadays?
I will let my signature answer this

If numbers are so much more important than a teammate who is fun to play with, forget about the game altogether and go play with a calculator instead. -Claws and Effect-

  16. How does the rotating tier 9 work ?? I have no idea..
  17. Are these Celestial Pieces available in the store ?? Or do I have to earn a gajillin merits or defeat something X number of times ???
  18. Ill easily hit the perma light form then because im at +88.75 recharge from IO and figuring the tier 4 alpha ( as soon as I get that elusive VR im all set ), three slots in hasten and three recharges in Light Form, I will be golden..

This should also perma Inner Light and maybe hasten as well. I wont worry about defense.

Dwarf is both a mule for IO but would be functional in battle. Transforming to either mode drops defense for S/L to about 30% and reverting to human form will mean reactivating certain powers to restore full defense. OR simply remember the forms are mules and do not transform.

it is a tradeoff, the physical durability of dwarfmode augmented by lightform with lower defense or the firepower of squid with lower defense, or remain in human form for balance of resist/defense and attack powers. Egads as I sit back and think about this, I realize I just basically built Ultraman Tiga.

I'm trying to design a defense capped perm lightform human form only but so far that's still in the proto design phase.

Alpha is T4 Spiritual Core, 5 LOTG recharge boosters, 2 slotted hasten and assorted other IO sets only one of which is purple, the +3 def proc from the PVP set is not in this as I don't like spending 2 billion for an extra 3% defense, but I'm funny that way. I'll see about posting the build later.

Perm lightform without hasten? Possible but defense would likely take an unacceptable drop as well as require at least 3 purple sets, still working on that but not sure I'd want the defense drop.
Id love to take a look at this build whne you have the time. I know I can get the Perma part down.. Im just not good at figuring out all the defensive stuff.. and I dont use a lot of purples or those PvP sets.. I dont have the influence..
  20. I have a WP/SS and a INV/NRG tank that are both well IO'd.. In all honesty they can both pretty much survive anything thrown at them in the PvE game...
  21. Excellent that changes things..

Now I just need to figure hout how much recharge it needs to be perma.. Guess ill be going for that Spiritual Alpha for sure now.
  22. Can someone tell me my assumptions are correct..

It seems that if I can get Perma Light Form and slotted for resistance that according to Mids I would have pretty much maxed out resistance and could drop the two Shields I am running on my current build.

    Is this correct ????

    Thank you...
