Ack logic overload. Please refrain from making such posts in the future.

You told me too and since i'm so ignorant, i figured i'd listen to some of teh market people moar. Hope i helped some.
[/ QUOTE ]
Guess that means I can cancel my bid. Oh well. Some people just can't be saved from themselves. -
[ QUOTE ]
You are right. In a game world limited only by the nigh infinite possibilities of it's creators imaginations they could never create events of such magnitude again.
[/ QUOTE ]
I won't deny that another 'perfect storm' couldn't be concocted, but the one surrounding MA was almost too perfect with the way everything happened. Tickets were raining from the sky like manna from heaven, recipes were being generated at a break-neck pace, and market prices fell through the floor, almost destroying the world.
I just don't see the devs creating such an ideal circumstance again. Then again, you never know. They always have a way of surprising us, whether for good or for ill. -
[ QUOTE ]
D) Sell for 5 million to set a trend. (though unlikely) It'd more than likely just be flipped.
[/ QUOTE ]
I've already got in my bid for 10 mil for it.
*Starts waiting patiently* -
Please check out this thread. It should answer most of your questions.
-
[ QUOTE ]
It would also likely really tick off the people that make their inf from in place flipping.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't know about that. You *could* buy from WW and then go to the Cimeroran and turn a nice profit. It would all depend on price disparities on either side and it would require a little more travel time between markets, but I think profits would still abound. Anywhere there's a market, money can be made by those with a little effort and know-how. -
I'll add my voice to those that say that if the markets were ever going to be merged, MA was the time to do it. There was so much craziness with the markets that people probably wouldn't have noticed until after the dust settled and then found that something they were looking to get had an identical sales history both blue- and red-side. It was a lost opportunity and I wonder if there will ever be another one as golden as with the MA.
-
[ QUOTE ]
Well, yeah. You have essentially built a financial plan contingent on winning the lottery, except that Posi gives better odds.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thank you, Squez for summing it up so succinctly. And to Eryq2, I will also add that you don't *have* to do anything with the market in order to use tickets and merits. And, what do you know, you get them just by doing exactly what you purport you want to do, "Play CoH and get drops." Tickets are more than easily gained and you can roll bronzes all day and get some decent stuff. It'll require a little more effort, but you play the TFs and Trials for merits and get better stuff. What more do you want?
If you don't want to be bothered with going to WW to check whether something is for sale or to sell your own drops then I still fail to see the logic in your complaint about high prices since they are irrelevant to somebody who doesn't want to use the market. -
For the record, I never mentioned you specifically. If you want to get personal though, that's fine by me. And if anything was to be inferred from what I last wrote, it would be that you are illogical, not ignorant. They are different.
Your whole position of, "I won't buy it because the price is too high" is rather silly; but if such a stance tickles your belly button, then so be it.
Smurphy has pointed out that the reason prices are so high is because the devs have made the drop rate of the ultra-rares...well, ultra low. Simple supply and demand manifests itself, yet there are those who complain about the high prices being the scheme of some evil, greedy marketeers, rather than on the devs who have created the current supply and demand with the established drop rates and merit/ticket costs of salvage and recipes.
The simplest case study was the 'market crash' that came with the release of the MA and the 'meow' farm. I personally didn't jump on that bandwagon, but I was generating more than enough tickets on my own to get several of the recipes I needed, including ToDs, to fill out my build. The drop rates are crap when fighting critters for drops, but the chance of getting a decent recipe increases significantly when you start using tickets to roll recipes because you have some element of control over the reward you receive.
Now prices have gone back up with the MA nerf. I'm sorry you think it such an inconvenience to have to spend a little time in WW or the BM; but just because you refuse to do the work, you are not entitled to the same rewards as anybody else. And if you don't care to earn them, then what cause do you have to complain about high prices or low drop rates? This stance, to me, is what makes no sense and thus leads to my position that you are not ignorant, but illogical.
No warm fuzzies or deific blessings needed here. -
The positive of this experience is at least I only bought 5 instead of 10, and one has already sold. So if I were to sell them for 50 Million, I'd only be eating about 12 Million plus fees which doesn't hurt me too badly. I'm thinking 50 would be an easier sell than the approx. 80 I was looking for. I'll see how things look tomorrow morning and make my decision then. I really don't like tying up my slots for more than a week at the most. That and weekends are a wonderful time to move the goods.
Generally, my schemes involve fast-moving inventory rather than slow-moving, which means less profit per sale but more of them to compensate. An interesting market study might be to see which strategy works better over the long term. -
[ QUOTE ]
I hope this time it sinks in, although honestly I wonder at Eryq2's power of abstract reasoning. He is apparently impervious to logic.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ha ha! One enhancement that certain people seem to have in abundance is the Logic Impervium. Grants +95% boost to logic defense. I love it! -
So this past weekend I was looking around the various recipes trying to find a niche to hit up for a short stint and stumbled across Respec recipes selling in the range of 60-80 Mil. That's more than enough of a disparity to make me happy so I put in a bid for 5 recipes at 62 million a piece.
I've been following the price and it has tanked with only one of my recipes being sold. While the prices have come back up a little today, this has been the low point as of yesterday.
I haven't given up on them yet so put in your high bids for respecs, people!I'm still trying to get into the billionaire club and selling the other four will give me a nice boost!
-
I haven't spent as much time time on a /Invul; however, my main is a WP scrapper. If you want to see some of the feats that can be accomplished with /Invuln, I'd check out this thread.
Here's my synopsis on WP. As has already been mentioned, it is built with a little bit of everyting. It has some regen mixed with a little invuln and a little super reflexes. All of WP's powers are set and forget as long as you have the recovery to keep them running. The defense of WP is mostly from a power you get later in heightened senses which defends against typed damage rather than positional like SR. The tier 9, Strength of Will, gives you some very nice resistance and boosts your recovery which can be a tremendous boon against tougher foes granted the foe doesn't last past the end crash at the end. The +HP is always on and not dependent upon a click power to activate as it does with Dull Pain in Invuln. Rise to the Challenge really makes fighting large groups much smoother as your regen rate scales with the number of foes within melee range. I know Invul has Invince? that is much the same way with your resistance scaling with the number of foes in range.
I am sure either set requires a certain style of play to get them to their peak performance and it really comes down to user preference.
Bottom line, take either set and give it a good run and see which suits you better or see if you don't love both. -
Another couple of questions to couple with the OP: What is the average range for buying recipes and IOs when you're working on getting sets? Do you just buy to frankenslot or do you go for the set bonuses?
-
[ QUOTE ]
These are my first billionaires, and having 2 hit at the same time wasn't exactly intentional.
[/ QUOTE ]
Congrats on the double bil! I am hoping my main will achieve the 1 bil mark here pretty soon. I'm struggling to not go on a massive IO spree to stock up my SG bins. -
[ QUOTE ]
The most challenging spawn I have tanked was an AE auto-SK to 50 8-man Rikti farming mission. The group lost members slowly as we went through the mish, and was down to only 3 members near the end. Myself, a Warshade, and a MA scrapper, who looked to be SR from what I noticed.
[/ QUOTE ]
I always love a good scrapper story. Thanks for sharing! -

I'm slightly biased, but I'd advise a scrapper for this project. Probably a claws/regen.
[/ QUOTE ]
Was thinking about the same, although I would personally go MA/Rgn or DM/Rgn I think, but that's purely because I prefer those two to claws (I like claws, just not as much). I don't know which would be better from a strictly numerical standpoint.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm certainly not a number-crunching fiend, and I'm not coming from a purely numerical viewpoint. I do think that claws is the most endurance friendly and doesn't have the problem of rooting you on a key low-level attack like Shadow Maul might, although Siphon Life is a beauty of an attack and would do well to supplement Reconstruction. I think it might really just come down to preference. -
Here's my build which doesn't have quite as high of DPS as some builds might, but it's got the survivability you'll want. But the only reason you want high DPS is if you're soloing AVs or Pylons, which this build can still do just a little more slowly. My favorite haunt is in the RWZ whooping up on 54s and this build doesn't have any issues taking on a group of them. You just might want to bring along a purple or two though if you're thinking of taking on multiple groups.
Have fun!

I'm slightly biased, but I'd advise a scrapper for this project. Probably a claws/regen. The combo is light on end, and with Quick Recovery at level 4 you shouldn't have to worry too much about your blue bar. I might also level up to around 16 so that I could get mez protection.
Here's a sample build just with generic IOs:

Haha ha! I was feeling a little generous and was handing out 5 Mil grants to some lowbie characters in KR and one of them turned down the trade when they saw it was for influence. I was just taken a little aback and thought, "Well, there's a first for everything." I asked why he/she didn't want it and they said they like to earn their way up. I have to admire that attitude.

Sometimes I would be quite happy to pay 500K for a Spell Scroll. Are you saying you wouldn't like to sell me one for 500K?
[/ QUOTE ]
On the subject of gouging, I find myself in need of some temporal tracers for one of my flipping projects. I looked at the last 5 and they were selling at around 100K with a low bid of 5K. So, just for fun, I put in a bid for 10,100 and got an insta-buy. All you have to do is outbid the flippers, not pay the max price in order to get your salvage an an opportunistic price.
Oh, and in the time it took me to type this post, the rest of my stack of 10 had filled. Yup, that's some hardcore gouging going on by some ebil marketeer, I tell you what! Now just imagine if I turned around and listed my stack for 99,760 and sold each for 100K. That's a profit of approx. 850K. Not a bad chunk of change.
Edit: By the time I'd posted there were a few more posts so I added the quote for reference.
