Why I'm proud: of all the other builds, this is the closest to completion: Mord Maedchen is actually lvl50, and is only missing 3 Hecatombs, 3 Armageddons, and 4 Absolute Amazements, 60% health recovered every 15s (Reconstruction), Perma Hasten/Dull Pain/Coral Guardian, FF procs for good measure, alternates Barrier, Hibernate, MoG, and great healing to survive anything (well maybe not everything, but can solo +4/x4 at least)
How to improve: please enlighten me- I actually don't know -

Why I'm proud: soft-capped w/ 3 enemies and no incarnate, .2% S/L def away from soft-capped w/ no enemies and incarnate, low on end use, high recovery
Where to improve: could use some resistance, more damage (probably would've come from incarnate system) -

Why I'm proud: softcap to all w/ 3 enemies around, shouldn't have end problems even with Disrupt running, crazy ST damage output, Exploding Shuriken!, this build was supposed to be used with an all-Stalker team on Exhalted (the team fell apart), placed the appropriately-named Touch of Death IO into Assassin's Blow
How to improve: this build is old- I made it well before Stalker ATOs came out and would probably incorporate that somehow -

Why I'm proud: was actually a joke character with lol procs, and TELEPORTING INVISIBLE EXPLOSIVE ZOMBIES, but I managed to make a pretty solid build while keeping the joke alive: note that Detonator and Soul Extraction have similar recharge times...
How to improve: MORE TELEPORTING INVISIBLE EXPLOSIVE ZOMBIES!!!! -
I've always been the type to never share a build I wasn't finished with (it takes some hours to buy all the parts I need months to get), but since CoX may be meeting its untimely end, I'll post a few builds I never got around to finishing...

Why I'm proud: perma Hasten/perma PA w/o incarnates, great controls, can perma Fort whole team
Where to improve: needs more damage, may need more defense: w/ perma PA, ST, and Flash recharging every minute maybe not -
As J said: Regeneration has the best regeneration in the game: on generic IOs Reconstruction alone recovers 40% of your health every 30s: in a decent IO set build that can go up to 50% health every 15s.
I will agree that Willpower is an easier set to play, since it doesn't require you to look at your healthbar (of course, on WP even if you watched your HP bar you couldn't do anything to help it...), but WP doesn't have nearly the same regen as, well, Regen -
-
I'll also put a vote in for Controllers: the solo okay, they team greatly, and they contribute much more than "more orange numbers" to teams.
As for primaries, I'd say Psychic, Dark, or Plant Control. For Plant, the extra damage (for soloing) comes from Seeds of Confusion, for the others, you can grab Air Superiority for extra control and damage early on. Confuse makes the three of them solo very easily, safely, and quickly (if the third option wasn't there, I'd also suggest Illusion Control)
For secondaries, I'd say dark, time, rad, poison, or storm... basically, any set that's more debuff/attack than buff. -
Quote:I don't really see how PS failed in the areas you're criticizing. Magi is extremely simple, requires very little instruction, and the little instruction that is required only needs at best only really need 6 people tops to execute them.
Except that isn't happening at the moment.
Except that PUGs seldom, if ever, can choose team composition, especially since it requires Lore & Destiny unlocks.
Need to apply the same lesson to the Tyrant fight. Light wells and Zeus Lightning every 30 seconds (on top of massive particle effects that don't always show for everyone), and a shifting regen bonus for the AV all the while trying to keep an eye on level shift (which apparently doesn't always shift the entire league) is, in a word, complex.
Compare Magi to Lambda (teammates messing up temp powers), BAF (teammates messing up Prisoner escape), Keyes (again, temp powers: also getting hit w/ Obliteration beam too often), TPN (screw up on cameras, civilians, technicians), or MoM (pink patches, storm voids, KB on GMs): notice that Magi doesn't really have a "this one teammate can screw up everything for everyone" situation like the previous ones, which I guess is what they mean by casual and hardcore players being able to get along. The mechanics are extremely simple: kill stuff, kill more stuff, kill more stuff (with portals), kill big stuff (with Pillars).
Requiring Destiny and Lore doesn't have any affect on team composition: whether you take a blaster, corrupter, or tank, all that matters is Destiny and Lore. Cole's heavy debuff resistance decreases the chance that people hand pick debuff-heavy characters- shunning others- to complete the task.
Quote:
Yes, tell that to all the failed leagues. So the entry requirements are that a player has unlocked but not necessarily slotted Lore and Destiny. This could mean that they are +0 (completely unslotted) vs a level 54+6 AV. Taking the light wells out lasts under 30 seconds, so that bonus doesn't last long. -
Quote:Not only FF, but also Traps, Time, Dark, and Storm (what is -ToHit but another name for +Def, anyway?) will greatly help keep Ninjas alive (special shout out to Storm for being able to slot Rech-Intense Pet IOs), which is half of the secondaries. You do realize that Force Fields is one of the few secondaries that can actually "make" Ninjas live longer, right? I mean ... Force Fields turn Ninjas into a gang of Super Reflex Scrappers who have the power of NO GET HITSU!! Of course they're going to live long enough to dish out their damage, once they can dodge hits and still dish out their damage.
The problem is that if you don't pick the "right" secondary for Ninjas so as to help them LIVE ... they fold like pre-creased origami rice paper and don't even make decent speed bumps.
Not surprisingly, sets that are good at keeping pets alive are good at keeping pets alive, but I think the additional survivability given to Ninjas give them a bigger boost than the additional survivability given to other pets, since Ninjas start off with crazy ST (and pretty good AoE) damage anyway. -
Okay: as long as the people who didn't care still don't care, and those that cared still do, I'll keep going: I just noticed that the 10+ threads concerning Blaster performance were all simultaneously dying (i.e. almost halfway off the first page)..
-
Exams, Xenoblade Chronicles, and other alts have kept me away from my portion of the "Blaster performance testing" I was doing, but I finally got around to playing today with "results" and comments.
First, I'd like to point out that since starting this test, I've rolled 6 new alts: Elec/Storm troller, Beast/Time MM, SS/Regen brute, Dark/Time troller, Kat/Fire scrapper, and Fire/Fire Blaster, and all 6 have already (easily) passed both the Ice/Ice blaster and the Mercs/Pain MM I was using to "test" (most of the new alts were between lvl12-14 when I started testing today, test subjects started at lvl12). Here's a list of things I've found to contribute more to how fast I level versus if "I'm a middle of the road blaster or a middle of the road [AT]"
1) Enhancement slotting: Going Rogue Pre-Order enhancements are hax, and lvl10 IOs are so much better than TOs it's comical.
2) Difficulty settings: If you don't have bosses on, you're leveling with a handicap. The Beast/Time MM found out quickly that -1/x8 was much quicker than +0/x1, and has recently found that +3/x1 is a little faster than -1/x8. In my list, the Melee and Mastermind ATs do better with higher level missions, and the Controller and Blaster ATs do better with more enemies.
3) Street Sweeping: especially pre-travel powers and blue-side, killing all the white-red enemies on the way to your mission all the way across Steel Canyon speeds things along quite well. Or, you could forget missions altogether.. like my Fire/Fire Blaster did- he's been abusing Perez Park, Boomtown, and Combat Medics since he was lvl6. Even though he dies at least once a minute, he's taken the least time to get to lvl14 so far (30mins from lvl6)
4) Being good at your AT: I thought I was pretty good at being a Blaster, but then I watched StratoNexus' NRG/Fire videos, and realized how far I had to go. Going inspiration crazy and forgetting about Health bars are strategies I incorporated into each of these new alts
Conclusion: these tests will be inconclusive: people that are better at Blasters than other things will be better at Blasters, and those that are not will not.
If you're still interested in the results for today:
Blaster gained 22 lvl bars with 10 bars of patrol xp in 70 minutes, fighting at +0/x1/bosses with liberal use of inspirations, no deaths, but plenty of close calls.
MM gained 24 lvl bars with 10 bars of patrol xp in 50 minutes, fighting at +1/x1/bosses with little inspiration use, 2 deaths (Radio's defeat Wyvern Financer mission: last room- Red LB boss and Red Wyvern boss).
Along with the data from Comicsluvr's now-dead thread:
Blaster: lvl1 ->90mins->lvl10->65mins->lvl12->70mins = 225mins for 14lvs
MM: lvl1->120mins->lvl10->66mmins->lvl12->50mins = 236mins for 14lvls
Then again, no one could care anymore: I haven't been watching the forums too closely lately, and to topic seems to have died down since... -
My NB/Regen Stalker recharges AS in 6 secs (the final build will have it recharge in 4 secs): what will happen is this: AS->Soaring Dragon->Golden Dragonfly->AS, repeat: the second AS doesn't put me in hide until 4 seconds later (after the first 10.5 sec timer goes off).
I thought I heard that they were going to fix this, but I don't remember where. -
I'd cast my vote for AR/Dark: AR wants you to be in cone range and lacks melee, while dark wants you to be in PBAoE range and lacks range. Also, redraw sucks.
-
I joined the game about halfway through I3 (ignore my Joined since date: I was playing on my bro's account at the time...), and made a Def (FF/NRG) and a Blaster (AR/Elec) around the same time. Thanks to altitis (filled 3 servers w/ alts when all was said and done), among other things: the def stalled out around mid-20s, but my Blaster eventually (I9) made it to lvl50.
The ease of play will depend on the new player's support system: is someone going to walk them through/help them with how to make builds? When I first started playing Melee characters, I found myself to be *more* squishy than my "squishies", since I didn't know how to manage endurance w/ my defenses, and didn't do enough damage to make up for me constantly sucking wind.
With good build advice, Stalkers may be the easiest starting AT, but regardless, I, too, say that Blasters are definitely the best starting AT: it will give you a great understanding of what a priority target is (and/or you'll die trying). Plus, after lvling a Blaster to 50, everything else will seem easy! (My WS, made after my Blaster made lvl50, reached lvl50 during I11). -
When we say "needs help", what are we talking about? My answer changes accordingly...
- In terms of doing regular content at +0/x1, no AT needs help.
- In terms of running regular content at +4/x8, everything I own that's not at the soft cap needs help (which is all my toons, by the way...)
- In terms of soloing AVs and GMs, every AT combo that doesn't have -regen needs help
I personally think a good metric is how an IO'd toon at lvl50 performs at +0/x5 (the difficulty my toons all shoot for), in which case (from my own experiences, at least) I can only say that Blasters, Tanks, Stalkers, MMs, and WSs *don't* need any help. I'll add more ATs to what don't need help as I acquire (anecdotal) proof of each claim... -
Here again: played my blaster up to lvl12: running the Bocor's Loa Bone mission, Radio's "arc" missions, ending on "Beat Wyvern Rep" (had to street sweep for 3 orange minions before I actually got to lvl12). With 10 bars of patrol xp, took 1hr,5mins. Somehow I messed up my HeroStats data (it crashed while recalculating), and it shows that I went from lvl10 to lvl12 in 5 seconds (I wish!), so when I combined it w/ my previous (1hr26min to lvl10) play session, I get some crazy averages. I'm about to start my MM play session, but I wanted to log the times here before I forgot them.
Edit: Done w/ my MM. With 10 bars of patrol xp, took 1hr6mins to get to lvl12 (from lvl10, that is). I started w/ Radio's arc missions (had already finished Bocor's stuff), ending w/ Force tech to get codebreakers. Almost died twice (in the last mission, walked into a room and aggro'd the whole room), but tactical retreats are my friend. HeroStats messed up again: it now thinks I got to lvl10 in 20mins (I'm flattered, though), but otherwise, nothing new to report. -

Stalker: Claws/Nin -
Quote:Well, even if you took an extra 1 second per mob setting up the position for a cone attack, over the course of one mission that may add anything from 10 seconds (in these low missions) to half a minute. Compounded over multiple missions, that could also be a factor, compared to ninja-running in, electric fists blazing.Honestly a lot of it is probably that I'm playing the Blaster first and playing the Stalker directly after, doing essentially all the same things. I've already memorized exactly where everything is having just done it on the Blaster by the time I do it again on the Stalker... Especially the Dr. Graves missions and the Bocor arc so far. The difficulty is exactly the same. Another thing is that the Blaster has Hover and Combat Jumping, and I still haven't set up binds yet to switch between those and Ninja Run. The Stalker doesn't have any conflicting toggles. This might not seem like it would be a big deal, but I think the time toggling back and forth is adding up. Next, the Stalker has much more defense than the Blaster, so the Blaster uses rest more often. I find I'm getting a bit more "bang for my buck" inspiration wise on the Stalker. Finally the Blaster has to take a more indirect route to missions to avoid aggroing enemies on the streets sometimes (like was mentioned above) which may be leading to longer transit times between missions, but I haven't really felt a noticeable time gap there. All that being said, as of right now both characters are within 2 XP bars of each other, so while the difference might be noticeable it's hardly a large discrepancy when it comes down to it, at least at this point.
