Might wanna fix that =p
This clearly shows that the dev responsible for this is a greybeard, probably someone that cut their teeth on a PDP-11.

IMEHO, it's a tiny bit of a worry that the patch notes only comment on the Brute problem, while it was well noted here that the problem also existed for Scraps and Tanks. It kinda whispers "poor communication" to me. -
Has anyone tried the 191's from Nvidia yet. Reason being, they're listing some pretty impressive performance improvements, and three of the six bullet items include the text:
Quote:IME, AA has always been a bit cranky in CoX on Nvidia cards. More often than not, even when enabled, either in game or in the CP applet, it doesn't seem to work. So I'm wondering if these performance improvements equate to a performance boost in CoX, and if there's a bugfix in there that makes it a bit more likely to function.with antialiasing enabled -
Not 100% certain why I'm even posing this, when it appears the OP's idea has been destroyed about the same way an Amtrak express train will destroy a ming vase placed on the railroad tracks.
That said, I'll add my voice to the masses and point out that disconnecting appearance and functionality is one of the best things this game has going for it. The options that exist to look unique are just huge. Costume creator, customized weapons, and now with I16 customized powers.
You also have a lot of options for how to build your character - SO's, HO's, IO's, Sets, Purples, Frankenbuilding ...
Just don't EVER tie these to each other. -

Quote:That's a part of what makes this good - so much different stuff for different people. Ali will for sure turn redside ... for a while at least. And not just for badges. Depending on the feasibility, she may switch back and forth fairly regularly as the mood moves me....
What gets me right now is how inflexible I am (and didn't realize this). Days in, looking down my "switch, stay, reroll" list of characters, I realized that it's never the humans. Extraterrestrials, angels, and avatars.. sure. My mortals are a stubborn lot. And my favorite bios will no longer make sense! Need.. mohr.. space!
PS. I'll be the first in line for an all-Warshade VG.
Granted, I really don't RP her much, but if I did she's a lot closer to a villain than (say) Statesman. Morally, somewhere between The Punisher and Batman.
The end justifies the means ... and she is sometimes a law unto herself. Definitely a LOT darker than Ms. Liberty. -

Fluffs in, bypasses the coffee (for now), noms some bacon, and floomps down in a convenient FBBC for a few hours sleep.

If you do a whois lookup on IP address 68.86.89.54 it belongs to a comcast.net CIDR:
http://whois.domaintools.com/68.86.89.54
However, as noted at the top of that page, reverse DNS does indeed point to tenge12/1.br02.ash01.pccwbtn.net. That name scares me for two reasons.
1. I was not aware that '/' is a legal character in a domain name. Section 2.3.1 of RFC 1035 is (to the best of my knowledge) the absolute authority on what is, and is not, legit in a domain name, and it does not allow for anything other than letters, numbers, minus signs and periods. No slashes allowed.
2. Sure that's in a comcast.net CIDR, but why is reverse dns turning up a name that should belong to an outfit in Hong kong. Better yet, why does forward dns on that hostname strike out?
Bottom line. <quote>This stinks like rotten meat.</quote> In my humble opinion at least. -

Sorry, but I need to chime in here.
The vision of someone dropping a commercial air-conditioning unit on Reichs is now going to be etched in my mind for the rest of the day, leading to fits of uncontrolled giggling. Which will in turn make my co-workers wonder what I've been up to.
Hint. It's the "Heavy Vanguard Assault Suit" aka the HVAS. -

There are 4 things at stake here:
- Performing an animation. ;yatayata
- Describing an animation since there is no actual animation for it, such as <<I roll my eyes.>>
- A thought balloon which reveals a toon's thought. **What am I getting into?**
- Actual 'spoken' dialogue said aloud. "Your offer sounds too good to be true."

The issue I see with numbers 2 and 3 here is the chat window. As far as the chat window is concerned, text emotes are in the third person, so if I type:
/e waves to Zombie Man
the chat window shows:
Alissara waves to Zombie Man
while the bubble itself just holds the text "waves to Zombie Man".
Subject to the standard code rant, it may be possible to put both of these into a floating bubble. But in these two cases, what would you propose putting in the chat window?
-- Edit --
This is not meant to be a showstopper for this. I think it's a great idea, however we need to come up with some solution to this problem if this is going to have a prayer.
So let's put our collective thinking caps on. -

this game should lower its monthly fee to $9.99 instead of 14.99 imo. its getting old. its 5yrs old now. any game this old should not be going for 14.99/month still. if the rate wasn't so high i would keep my subscription going for a longer time. since its so high i will only subscribe for one more month before quiting.
[/ QUOTE ]
Along with many of the others in this thread, I'll say that if CoH isn't worth $15/month to you then quit.
Cutting the price by 33% would be a hideously bad move on the part of NCsoft. They'd have to increase the subscriber base by 50% of it's current numbers just to maintain their income from the game. That's not even factoring in the additional hardware and bandwidth they'd have to buy to support the additional players. -
[ QUOTE ]
side note: You can chat cross-server already via global tells and global chat channels.
there are a few "single world" games out there now
Guild Wars is the only one that comes to mind at the moment,
[/ QUOTE ]
The other big player that is a single shard is EvE online.
Two smaller players that run single shard are Ryzom and whatever is left of Jumpgate. Last I heard though, both of those had tiny subscriber bases, so it'd almost be a waste of money to set up multiple servers.
I also have a vague memory that Runescape uses the server model proposed by the OP: multiple shards, and you pick the one you'll play on when you log in.
In CoH, about the best we could hope for is some sort of temporary server transfer, although that raises the specter of the naming problem. Plus I tend to agree that the different atmospheres of the different servers is a good reason to avoid, or at least minimize cross server gaming.
I know for a fact that a lot of people that play on the low pop servers want to keep them that way, which is something I can totally respect. -

I don't think you need drastic changes.
This actually happened to me, just have your friend lower the in-game resolution to the next lowest available.
That fixed it for me since my in-game resolution was higher than my desktop one (1280x800)
Hope that helps.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd agree here, in part at least. I had the exact same thing happen on a laptop running Vista, because the game kicked off in a resolution that didn't match the desktop. IIRC, I had the game at 1024 * 768, with the desktop at 1280 * 800. I agree it was a different resolution, but in my case the game was smaller than the desktop.
YAMMV, but I fixed it by banging the bit in the registry that sets the game to run windowed. As it happens, I run windowed anyway, since it makes "alt-tabbing" much easier.
That said, even if you do want to run full screen, starting in windowed mode will allow you to get into the game, at which point you can set back to full screen. At this point, make sure to chose your desktop resolution and you should be good to go.
Something else that might be well worth looking at to help out here is TweakCOH - a very handy dandy tool that allows you to monkey with the display settings before you've even started the game. -
Depending on how it's set up, it may load, but there's a chance it won't be registered. What you're looking at is exactly the same as the recovery DVD that came with my last notebook.
There's a way to link an installation to the BIOS (I think that's what they hook into) so it'll work on a particular OEM machine, but nothing else. Otherwise it'd be way too easy to pirate copies of Windows.
Here's a link that describes what's going on in some detail.

I have similar problem with Creator Badge. Got Author, progress bar on Creator was showing 16 of 25. Logged on 2 days and progress bar dropped down to 8 of 25. I filed bug report.

Same here. I should have figured a way to get a screen cap of it, but I got the "50" badge (can't remember it's name), logged in a day or two later to find I still had it, but progress on Writer was showing 49 out of 100.
Prob is, I'm not 100% sure that screencaps include tooltips. Maybe /screenshotui 1 ??? -

I'd like to hedge off the flamers in advance, the 'High Collar' clips with most of the sholderpads, sorry. I love you all.
[/ QUOTE ]
...and that suddenly isn't a problem?
[/ QUOTE ]
It is a problem.
It is also a problem that is hideously difficult to solve. It's not unlike some of the problems that exist with Alissara's Rularuu claws. Getting things not to inter-clip while the model is in bind-pose is typically a no-brainer. Fixing all the inter-clipping problems when the model does any of animations it might do is significantly harder. How many animations did we have in the game? I seem to remember Back Alley citing a number north of a thousand.
However I happen to know the cost of fixing things like this, and so I live with it. Mostly because those claws are about 87% as sexy as Jay.
At a wild guess, a decision was made somewhere in the art department between "no inter-clipping and no high collars" and "we'll do high collars and just live with the inter-clipping." We got the collars.
I sure as hell don't begrudge them that choice.
BTW, Jay is extremely sexy.

There seems to be a problem with the patching kicking in while a player is still in game. It's been happening to me all night. I'd get hit by a mapserver disconnect and when I'd go to get back into game it would start to download the patch.
[/ QUOTE ]
You've got cause and effect mixed up here.
The patch isn't causing the mapservers.
If your game stops running after a mapserver, it'll start the patch download process.
