  1. Thundorn you forgot to rule out BG mode for MM's in this event. I'm pretty sure that only 2 AT's ( with specific powersets ) can fight head on with a MM in an inspless and god mode-less match.

  2. Right click on the assault buff icon from the pets menu, and then click "Hide Autopowers".

  3. I'd say AoE attacks are good if you go against a MM

    Pets

If you want to PvP....ninjas without a doubt.
  6. Actually it's gonna be the other way around. I see no reason to drop pff now with this recharge...so i'll keep it on at all times an enemy is near. Before, when it had 15 sec recharge i would drop it to bubble a pet or a teammate or use aid other.
  7. There's always gonna be some people that will complain about how you play your AT if you kill them.
Best thing that can happen to you is : you go against a character with a power or tactic that will render him powerless...and after a while you say : ok, i'll stop using that power...and the enemy replies : nah, it's one of your powers so i don't see why you shouldn't use it.

So when you meet open minded people it's fun, when you meet people that like complain just because you killed them it's not.

    My First MM

    If you want pvp, Ninja/ff.
If you want pve, whatever works.

Also note that everyone is biased when talking about pets, but the truth is ninjas own ( of course i'm biased when saying this )
  9. All i ever wanted on my MM was a hold, but now that i see other people get pets..i'm wishing i would get one more pet as well instead of the hold.
  10. I agree, debt is the problem here. I love using my force bubble, but i find i need to use it wisely because it's huge range can draw you a lot of aggro from npcs. So a tactic a melee only AT can use against it...is to go in an area witch is full of npcs...that way either i have to be extremely careful on how i use it or die...or not use it at all....and that would mean i lost my lvl 38 power

Though after reading what i just said...i have to agree to some extent that debt isn't that bad...if i know i don't get any debt...i won't hold back when facing npcs. So it's quite a dillema. Maybe it would be better if they'd reduce the debt aquired in pvp zones...make it half ( like in missions ), that way would be more fair i think ( since /rad chars can get into trouble unwillingly - put a debuff on a hero/villain and he moves near a npc...the npc will aggro the /rad AT...)

I come from NWN and we had the same problem with Shadowdancers. Though it's more problematic over NWN since thanks to game mechanics they can strike and hide again before we can hit. Repeat 'till death.

    [/ QUOTE ]

What class were you playing in NWN ? I never had much trouble with the shadowdancers, because after their first him i'd use Time Stop and acid fog, then cloud of bewilderment and thunder strike.

And yes i agree to what you said completely!

    Ninja/Dark Build

    For pvp :

    Genin - 3 acc, 3 dmg OR 2 acc, 3 dmg, 1 disorient
    Jounin - 3 acc, 3 dmg OR 2 acc, 3 dmg, 1 def debuff/confuse
    Oni - 2 acc, 3 dmg, 1 hold OR 2 acc, 3 dmg, 1 end red

Smoke flash : it's awesome, i recently got it with my 2nd respec and i love it, i suggest slotting it with end reds and recharge reds so you can perma it ( if your endurance allows it ).

Also ninja won't do criticals from shadow fall, or grant invis, because they need the "hidden" status like stalkers do, and that is only granted from their Hide and smoke flash.

And you don't need that many slots on Kuji in Zen, usually 2 recharge reds are ok ( since you won't find you'll need to use it too much during fights to justify for the end reds ).

The argument above that by breaking up a duel I was being selfish or thick headed just doesn't apply as I had no idea there was a duel ... if a broadcast message was sent out I entered the zone after it happened ... and if I had seen the message I wouldn't have known what a duel was anyway!!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well i'm talking here about people that ask and try to make others understand they are having a duel. I'm quite sure that if one of those duelers sent you a tell or said in broadcast : please, don't attack we're dueling, you'd have asked what a duel is ( you said you didn't know at that time ), or at least ask how this works. If i attack someone who's having a duel ( either they didn't broadcast it, or i didn't notice the broadcast ) and they insult me...i won't stop...and i'll continuosly kill them. It's just like going to a restaurant : you need to use : please, thank you etc. or you'll end up having second doubts about what you are eating

Sometimes you "have" to attack in a preemptive strike to defend yourself. On more than one occassion I've had people say "Don't attack!! We're duelling/testing or whatnot" just to have these people attack you when you let your guard down or look the other way.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well this discussion isn't going anywhere, people have different views on this matter...so far things have gone well enough for me ( yes, i'm a dueling addict ).

Now however we put this there's always gonna be different reasons for respecting/intrerupting a duel : if i get insulted in broadcast by a player then i start hunting him only to find him with the "don't attack ! i'm dueling" flag...i'll kill him ( example ), if i get attacked by a someone who's in a duel ( just as Archy said ) i'll strike back, if someone decides to duel in an open area where other battles are taking place...they'll get attacked by me if i don't get a request to leave them alone...and there are a lot of examples.

I also noticed that if you are being nice to people in general, they'll let you have your duels. I wouldn't expect to be left alone to duel if i offended someone, though i do expect to be left alone to duel by people i've been friendly with.

So i guess it all resumes to how you interract with others, and how they view you : friend or foe

It's quite easy to deal with a lot of people that are dueling as i have found out : go to where they are, and tell them : Guys...we have 10 heroes and 10 villains here..so let's have massive battles instead of duels. You'd be surprised how many people start dueling due to the sides not being balanced...and once they get on with it they don't realise anymore if the sides get balanced or not..they just need a bit of a reminder

The whole point of going into to a PvP zone, is to attack or be attacked by other players, so, i would find it fun to be attacked by anyone, thats why people go into PvP zones!
Anyone that does'nt find it fun to be attacked by other players, reguardless of what they are doing, should'nt go in there!
People that want a safe, uninterupted, and fair fight, should take it to the Arena as already stated

    [/ QUOTE ]

What i tried to say by i'll hunt the person down is : if you are in the middle of 100 heroes, i'll go for you everytime i see you ignoring the others .

And arena isn't a viable solution for people that want just 1 duel, it's especially not viable for MMs that need to spend 5 min before entering fights to upgrade henchies, which basicaly means you'll have to waste 10 min for upgrading: 5 min for arena fight and 5 min when going back to pvp zone ( yes, i'm a MM ).

On a side note : if i get intrerupted from a duel, i'll broadcast this : I was dueling, can you please let me be for a few moments then we can fight all you want. ( or something very similar because i like to keep it civilised ). If my plea gets ignored and i set up for a duel and get killed by outsiders again...i'll "play by the rules" as well ( i'm quite vindictive with people that ruin my fun ) and will hunt them all the time, will not stop attacking if they come under npc fire, will not let them rest in base ( there are no rules that state you shouldn't attack people who are engaged in pve fights ), will not however resort to insults - but if they do i'll warn them with petition. In a few words : ruin my fun will result in me trying to ruin yours.

    [ QUOTE ]
Manners? Anyone that attacks anyone in a PvP zone is free to do so. And anyone that decides to duel inside a PvP zone MUST be prepared to be attacked at any moment. If we all start this "wait till they finish" or "leave them if they are dueling" then the PvP zones will become very silly indeed.
There is NO need for duelers that get attacked, to respond with insults ect. You get no debt for being defeated in a PvP zone, you lose nothing, so if after all that they still have a problem with it, as Bridger has already pointed out....

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well yes, i see this as a matter of manners, since what you are doing when attacking someone who's dueling is : disrespecting their wish of a fair fight. And that's exactly what it is : you are going to kill someone who's whole attention span is focused on his duel target, or who's already at half health from his fight, or who's under some conditions she might not normaly be under...so killing someone who's dueling isn't a big deal...and it certainly kills the fair play.

As i said : if you want to be respected, respect others without invoking "pvp rules", because nowhere in the rules it says you should attack people that duel ( nor does it deny it ), it's left to each player to contemplate on it.

  20. I don't have a bots MM, but i'll say something from my experience with Oni ( tier 3 ninja henchie ) :

In pve i tend to use both upgrades on him - because i want all his attacks.
In pvp : if i'm up against a lot of enemies i use both upgrades on him ( same reason as above ), BUT if i'm against a few select more powerful enemies ( blappers ), i'll just use the lvl 32 upgrade for him because then he'll spam his hold.

Now this might be useless for Assault bots, but it all depends on which powers do you want him to use ( it's a bit of a control over what your henchies do IMO ).
  21. I can't recall at the moment any funny stories, but i'll say one that quite annoyed and amused me : A while back when i was hanging in sirens a lot, a fair lot of heroes knew my MM and her PFF , so i went into sirens as i usually did only to find out that heroes were quite overwhelmed by villains ( note here - i'm quite friendly to everyone - and i don't like attacking my friends if it's not a fair fight, unless they attack me ), but some of my hero friends knew this and they let me get close to them ( my tactic of making them attack me - you know...give me an excuse for joining the battle ), but what i didn't expect was to get completely isolated from the fight, nobody attacked me nor my henchies even though i sent them into every battle ( on passive mode ) hoping they'd get hit with an aoe ( i'm very fond of my ninjas and i react badly when they are damaged ). So after i spent about 30 to 45 minutes around the battles just chatting to my friends, i asked them why didn't they attack me, the reply came in the form of a tell and it both amused and annoyed me : Why would we...we can't get through your pff and there was no reason to add another villain to the battle if we could help it . Of course as soon as i got the reply i got annoyed and left to go do some pve

And btw, now i found a counter tactic for this situation : just dismiss a henchie and blame a hero for killing it

I think it's all related to manners. It's a game, and as such it should be entartaining for all who play it, if ruining a duel means you are ruining 2 other persons fun then it's quite clear there's something wrong.

Everyone is holding up the rules that it's a pvp zone and it's ok to attack anyone you see, but then comes the funny part : you get intrerupted in a duel, and you decide to hunt the player that spoiled the fun for you - you start getting silly broadcasts, then you decide to warn them that you'll petition them for abuse, AND then they'll start churning out that it's ok for them to spoil your fun but you aren't supposed to kill them and spoil theirs.

Anyway i'm quite sure that what i just said wasn't readable at all ( very tired and working also ), but the moral is : If you want to be treated with respect, then you should respect others as well, that would include not ruining their fun when they duel ( of course given they announce it and ask nicely to be left alone ).
  23. [ QUOTE ]
    Anyway, don't shoot the messenger

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sorry didn't mean to sound like that

As i said in a way earlier post, if the targets can be pulled but the corruptor is just lazy i feel no need to sacrifice my pets, if there's a chance my team can get killed by the npc spawn - i'll send henchies but i've often found in groups they prefer me to send pets instantly after the brute gets aggro so they can max out their damage.

One thing : i'm very fond of my henchies , so i tend to group mostly with friends that know better than to ask me to sacrifice my pets *evilgrin*
  24. [ QUOTE ]
Tanking: preventing the mobs from attacking the team by providing an alternative target.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Actually that's taunting.

Tanking : being able to soak damage and not die. - uhmm...i don't think henchies are really good at that.

    [ QUOTE ]

Sorry, but you are completly wrong there. The design of CoV intends for MM pets to be used as tanks. Brutes are intended as boss killers (the Scrapper role in CoH) NOT TANKS.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So what are stalkers then, if brutes are the boss killers ?
Also why don't MM pets get a taunt if they are supposed to get the aggro from npcs?

MM's are like summoners in other mmorpgs - you'll never see the summoner's pet go and tank, that's why we have classes that can use heavy armor and shields ( in this case a defense oriented secondary and a taunt in primary ).
