  1. Let's face it, the UI of this game is getting long in the tooth and is covered with a bunch of band aids applied by those with no medical experience.

God bless the engineers who have to do UI work on CoH... they're not trained to do UI work. I've never seen CoH advertise for a UI expert.. and it unfortunately shows.

As programmers who have training to create applications to be used by others, they obviously know how to make user interfaces. But they don't have the chops to create elegant and easy-to-use interfaces.

I'm having a hard time thinking of any element of the UI that I would give an 'A' grade to. It's mostly 'serviceable'. But it's not very pretty or easy to use or gets fixed in a timely manner when buggy. This includes:
    • the new overlay to the character creator
    • the organizational mess of the costume tailor
    • the inability to move UI windows out of the 3D box (for wide or multi-screens)
    • lack of an in-game macro/bind editor
    • the universally non-liked league UI
    • the switch from tabs to drop down categories in the Collect menu in Beta
    • lack of consistency (radio buttons v. list select v. click through list of options)

It looks outdated. We need and Ultra Mode initiative for the UI.

  3. While exemplared, the DUST icon won't show up for me, but I do indeed get credit for logging out there even without the icon showing up... I've tested that extensively.

As for getting to the log out points, I use Flashback Crystal (either in Ouroboros or my base) to sign up for First Ward pt. 3 to get the warp to Noble Savage. From there, I either stay there for Eltentown or pop over to the DUST facility.

And I imagine I'll be using pt. 7 to warp to Vanessa to hop over to MOM Hospital.

This afternoon, I'll be finished with my second First Ward day job... two more to go to be completely done badging... until 21.5.

The donation link at the Wiki is working perfectly fine. I just tested it this morning! Keep up the good work!
  5. If you want Fluffy to Tank for you and be perma'd, then you want to 5 slot with Dampened Spirits (skip -ToHit/Recharge/End). This will make Fluffy a black hole of miss and give you 5% global recharge. The sixth slot can be a damage proc or Acc if you don't have a lot of global ToHit (which you should since you're taking Tactics... right?).

If you're looking for softcapping Defense, then six slot with Siphon Insight and find enough global recharge elsewhere to make it perma'd.

All of Fluffy's attacks have -ToHit and can benefit from the -ToHit Enhancements. Only one power can benefit from Heal, and Fluffy's heals come too randomly to count on it... so, I would never buff its Heal.

Grave Knights do *immense* damage on their own. You want to max their damage and accuracy. Six slotting with Blood Mandate will do that for you. It will also give you a big boost for personal Defense (3.75% AoE and Ranged).

I think you mean these two channels: NPC Dialog and Cutscene Captions

That will capture everything the NPCs say and the voice over dialogs you get on some Trials. I also put the Event Messages channel in there.

Local text is stuff your teammates would say.

Actually, Kane's Mansion is the same tileset as Dollface's Mansion, not Manticore's.

Dollface's Mansion is a decrepitfied version of Manticore's Mansion.

Dollface's and Kane's Mansion has a bedroom and mad scientist room... which Manticore's Mansion doesn't have.

Manticore's Mansion has a Praetorian Lab and a sandy cavern basement.

Kane's Mansion has a spookified Cimeroran sandy cavern basement.

    I thought 'new' meant 'new'.

Sorry for being cheeky, but there was a lot of noise made about something new each week. A bundled sale ain't new. Although, I'm not surprised. I didn't think you could put out 52 new things a year anyway. And this is a relief for those panicking that their monthly stipend was barely scratching the surface of all the new stuff. It's a chance to save for really new stuff.

And with regard to Temp Powers in general in the Store, I think they are overpriced anyway. I regard a permanent power to be worth 10 times a temp power. And a power that is for all toons to be worth 10 times one for just one account. If a permanent Rocket Board for all alts was 600 points, then the normal price of temporary War Whistle for just one character should be 6 points.

And this is too late a themed pack if the Halloween Event is ending tomorrow as scheduled.

Which basically means that if you type this:

    /windowscale Tray1 1.2

You'll get a slightly enlarged tray of buttons to mash for Tray 1. I'm talking about separate trays that are littered around your screen, not the default power tray window at the bottom right of your screen.

(What this REALLY means is that if you knew each UI window's name ("string"), you could customize any individual element. I don't know where to find that information. I got lucky on my first try by typing "Tray1"...for all I knew it was going to be something weird like Power_Tray_1.)
Well, you could have followed the links above for the guide I wrote about it and the list of window names.

  12. I have the site memorized. Just give me a phone number and I'll pick up a phone modem and whistle past two abrading sheets of sandpaper and reconstruct it for ya.

  14. Yes, it is possible for character info to become corrupted. Send in a /petition and then follow up with the emails that go to your real life personal account.

You know you've been playing CoH too much when you read this as "Luck of the Gambler."
  18. Judging by the character names, I'm not surprised something odd would happen when it seems like members of Pride hook up with an 80's mega-band.
  19. It's either a one time grapical texture hiccup, or you graphics card is overheating and/or dying.

Reboot the computer and then repair files at the NCLauncher. If it still happens after that, monitor your graphics card temperature.
  20. They're just hitting on you.
  21. How about after level 20, they exit in some random zone?
