  1. Anyway to add classics like Bone by Jeff Smith, or Maus by Art Spiegelman? This list includes a number of ones not listed.

I know if I sat down every night and got on a TF I could ding 50 rather quickly. I just can't sit down every night and play the same character.
  3. Maybe if the CoH community stopped using Twitter they could start fixing the links to guides and the dev tracker. For all of the work they did to prepare for the new forum, they have been seriously lacking in following up. Yes, i16 closed beta is important, but so is a fully functioning forum.

    Wiki: Frankenslotting

It's all ready there. I'm one of the people who can modify it, so if there's anything to be added, let me know, but it covers the basics and there isn't much, IMO, to really add. You just have to translate what is there for whatever power you are looking at taking all of the optional sets. There was a really good guide for it on the forum, but with the new board the link went dead.

Another example of frankenslotting. Here's how I did Blind on my Ill/rad for now.

    Lethargic Response: Acc/recharge
    Call of the Sandman: Acc/recharge
    Common IO: Hold x 2
    Common IO: Recharge
    Common IO: Damage

I abused Blind for the fact that it also takes the sleep sets and those can be bought on the cheap. I get more than 1 SO worth of acc, more than 2 SOs worth of recharge, and an 1-2 SOs worth in hold and damage. Non-commons are level 36, and the commons are level 35. I could probably work on getting a decent set in there, but I was mostly working on getting stuff for the new slots after I leveled up more and getting the 5 slotting of Decimation in SW was kicking my butt as is. I put stupid cheap bids on a level 36 set of Decimation and some of them took forever to come in.

Think of the ramps in caves and sewers, being on the top, cone immobilize and then Gale them all down the ramp making them both unable to move from down there and being far enough away that they can no longer attack you or your teammates.

That's what I see the major difference is. Other than that it's a question of do you want harder controls or better debuff values. Not to mention that you get the Storm powers sooner. Barring Mastermind (because I'm not a particular fan of them), I have a Storm character of each AT that has access to them. Each offers something different and unique to the table, the Defender just offers more damage than Controller version, less damage than the corruptor version, more debuff than both, and less hard control than Control.

It really depends your play style and what you find most important.
/dark will out do Earth, but I don't think the gap will be that big. Both sets have good potential for adding in damage via damage procs. Plant has Seeds, and multiple powers for damage procs. I highly doubt /dark does more damage. Plant does more damage at the cost of lesser exp although that cost is made back up in exp over time.

I rolled an Earth/storm and Storm/dark. I came to the same cross roads as the OP and kept the Earth/storm. It's one of my two 50s in nearly four years of playing. Love the build. Eventually rolled the Storm/dark again. Why? Because my controller had such a stupid amount of control I ended up getting rid of Hurricane, which is a/the defining power of the Storm. Playing a /storm controller with -KB is like playing /storm on training wheels. Since I had a level 50 /storm, I wanted to try it without the crutch. I got it to level 26 and I can say it's a completely different playstyle. I have to use Hurricane now, and I have to learn how to use it.

I also have a Fire/storm, level 24, and Plant/storm, level 37. Again, neither have Hurricane by that's in part because I'm running Hot Feet on my Fire/storm and Hurricane messes with Seeds too much since it slows down the damage of the confused targets. I have to do Ill and Grav, which will be defender like due to the lack of -KB, too at some point. Both of those will have Hurricane, but it's in part due to the controller's primaries lack of control relatively speaking.
  8. I look at frankenslotting more for the level 15-25ish area. By level 35, I'm looking more at full sets, but even then some powers get frankenslotted. Blind from Ill gets heavily frankenslotted. For sets, go for the cheaper ones since any bonuses are better than none, and you can keep those in there until you can build up a better amount of influ.

Firefox 3.5 got a speed upgrade, so the difference isn't so much. Firefox is still a resource hog if you leave it open long enough.

So I guess my point is, since most resummoning will be done in combat situations now, are massive endurance hog upgrade powers still desirable?
I think it's a small perk for when you are able to travel short distances between zones. It will also be nice when you are at the mission door, but waiting for the team to fill up that you can summon everything, and then be ready when the team is. I don't consider it a huge perk, but it's a nice addition.

EDIT: I'll also add Sonic blast can use other epics as well since it has Siren's Song, and the stacked -res really helps the attacks from Elec and Power.

This is what is scratching my head as well. Once you start dealing with ED there isn't much to really add into damage wise since over 95% gets harder and harder to boost. Frankenslotting as I know it really isn't where you start looking to go as a level 50. You go from it early on to as many sets as you hit 50 and after that. One thing to look at is Achilles' Heel: Chance for Resistance Debuff. Since Kat has -def across the board, you can slot that in any of your attacks outside of DA.

    Queue code added

Hopefully, this will alleviate some of the issues that crop up from the full server problem.
Freedom seemed rather smooth all this considered last 2x exp weekend, so it will be interesting to see how much it effects things. I think it will likely mostly be for when issues(i16, etc.) hit.

    Electric Armor

Looks like my Dark/elec will be worth sticking around for. Note, this is a brute that's already SO level and feeling kind of bland.

    Best at TFs

Outside of controllers, Kin, or Rad/sonic. /sonic will boost the teams damage and make things go quicker. Both will be awesome for AVs. Dark, or Storm could be good to add since it's easy to pull off stealthing and very few turn down the idea of stealthing during TFs.

For blasters, as much firepower as possible to make things go fast. Might not hurt to bring a little something else to the table, ie /dev for stealthing and prefight setup, or /ice for added control. I've seen a Fire/ice blaster handle alpha strike duties on a team against CoT. Funny as hell to see it happen too. They toss Fireball to aggro everything, run around a corner, lay down Ice Patch, and let the mob bunch up and start flopping around.

Scrappers, anything, but /regen, or /sr although /sr can be made into a great alpha striker depending on the mob. /dark, or /invul will be the most team friendly. /wp's taunt aura sucks too much to really be much of anything on a scrapper. Spines, or Fire to crank out the damage.

Tanks, Ice has the best aggro management. Ice/fire is best at it. Stone is the sturdiest, but it's the only build I got to 30 and then deleted because I didn't like the -speed aspect. Even a SG mate got one to 50, endlessly talked to me about it, and ended up deleting it because he found it was only needed so often.

The one I'll get to 50 first is Dark/stone because Fault + OG is stacked AoE disorient goodness. A Dark/stone is a controller in a tanks body. End issues are overrated due to tanks not having to spam attacks as bad as other ATs, so you can kind of hang back and use Taunt to help keep your end bar in check when needed. Theft of Essence +end proc also does wonders for the end bar.

In short, you kind of look through powersets and try to find builds that cover more than one area. I was giddy watching my Ice/ice blaster be the sole controller on a 2x exp weekend team one time. Any build that can do more than one thing is always welcomed on PuG TFs.

You could leave it open to join so a mod doesn't have to add people. Make enough people mods to have enough administrative monitoring it so nothing drama wise gets too out of hand.

  18. Proc idea made me wonder about a Kin/dark, but damage procs don't get boosted by +dmg and Kin can obviously damage cap anyway, so proc damage is a lesser amount respectively. If you can find a purple damage proc that can be used with -res, do so. It should tick to 107 damage and then factor in the amount of -res.

I don't think Kin would be that bad depending on the other powerset. Kin/sonic would stay more at range compared to Kin/rad.

Anything that has range, damage, and control will be very safe as a hardcore character. My Grav/rad was so easy in hardcore mode until it got punked by a Rikti drop shipped in the initial seconds after I logged in. Cold/ice was similar, but the mob got close enough and the melee attacks hurt like hell. If I had Sleet, I think I could have survived that fight. Tanks are hell to do hardcore early, but become really good later on.

P.S. And yes, I've done Iron Eagle teams, but my work schedule for some time has been hell to do it consistently.
  21. Rolled a Storm/dark way back in the day. One of the few builds I really enjoyed, and yet rerolled due to server space. Eventually I rolled it again on an alt server. Played it up to 24 and was still kind of wondering about how much I would play it. It seems to be lacking some "it" factor for me, but there's no way I can reroll it again.

So last night I was poking around builds and decided to grab my Storm/dark for some AE stuff full knowing and expecting to get on a farm. I mostly picked it due to FR and the AoEs just to see how it would do. I'm in ultra passive mode, so I'm not looking to solo missions, or trying to lead teams. Just kind of hanging out, you know?

I get on a classic bad PuG team lead by a 3 month vet. Eventually get a Stone tank, who asks for us to get another tank. Stone tank is a 48 month vet, who for some reason doesn't have any of the fitness pool. Eventually we get a 2nd tank and fill out the team and go. Team has horrible DPS, scrapper is a leecher, Stone tank isn't doing much, etc. Some people leave, ie scrapper who gets called out by me, and we add in more DPS. I do notice how well I can handle some of the strangler bosses that are around me by just using Hurricane on them. I'm wondering how well I could tank a mob. Again, level 24, level 25 common IOs, so nothing special from me.

We eventually get through the mission and ready for round two. Main tank leaves, so we are sitting there waiting to get a 2nd tank. 2nd tank so isn't happening. Now I'm moving from passive mode to getting kind of pissed. Even the other teammates are going, "But wait, we already have a tank." Stone tank says he's too squishy(doesn't have Granite form yet, but I think he's got all of the other armors). One teammate says just to grab a controller. Lead passes the star to the one teammate. My hopes pick up, but yet we are still kind of waiting. Eventually, we get a main tank(Ice).

We do a mission and it's only LTs, so we are running through it rather well. Main tank DCs. Team stops, and then agrees to finish the mob and wait for the tank to come back. Oh, hell no. Former lead is a Emp, who thankfully has Fort. I jump into the next mob and bring them back and lay FR down in front of them. We clean house. My health goes low, but nothing inspirs can't cover. I ask to be kept Forted, and then we go through a number of mobs after that. I joke about me tanking and the current lead still makes a comment about looking for a tank. O.o Eventually, the Ice tank comes back and again I toss out a comment about me filling the tank role and yet nobody says anything. We go through and finish the mission without much incident.

I probably converted nobody over, but I now I'm really looking at trying it on an actual boss farm. I only really used FR, Hurricane and my blasts. Give me more tools and better enhancements and I'm rather sure I can tank a boss farm rather easily. I just might have to start building all squishy farms and having me play the roll of tank. Now this is a project I could get behind.
