Pro: Elec has additional controls and mitigation. End drain being outside of the norm so in some cases it can be rather effective. This means Elec is deemed a defensive blast set and gets lower damage because of it.
Con: End drain is highly hit, or miss. A NPC can attack with a sliver of end. Even when it is effective, a controller in the vast majority of cases has already controlled the target/mob in question so the additional mitigation is made minor, if not irrelevant. A properly built end drainer can end drain a number of tough things, EB, AVs, etc., but a large number of them lose hit points against a team about as fast they lose end. Outside of epics, SC needs to hit twice for it to fully drain a mob. SC animates in 3 seconds and that's not adding recharge time. By the time a mob is fully drained, the battle has vastly been decided. -
Screw numbers. I play what I think is fun.

Quote:This was vastly the conversion I had with a long time CoH game friend recently. We would totally quit CoX and move on, but there isn't anything out there that is done as well. We take our breaks, but always come back. Give me another year of marking things off of my ever growing list of things to do and have TOR come out and then we'll talk. Until then, I don't see me really seriously playing anything else. This game has tainted me for life.. I just cannot keep myself from playing it!
No matter how many times I try to quit, I keep coming back. I'll play other games and just keep thinking "Man CoH was so much cooler than this.."
So then I kick around the idea of coming back for a few days, finally break down, and do it..
Darn this game for being too good and addictive!
Anyone else have similar issues? -
Quote:Hell, I was on a level 3 this morning and I was doing AE missions and later got on a sewer/KR team and ended up being level 10 when I logged and I'm still scratching my head how somebody goes 1-20 in under 3 hours purely solo even if they only used AE so no, to little need for travel. Let's say a mission take 10 minutes to run. That means you get under 18 missions in that time frame in order to hit 20.It's still not solo. It's two characters. Levelling solo means one character. It doesn't matter that you play both of them. It's still not under the normal restrictions of a 1-20 character.
Even then, you've not answered the question; how did the one lowbie go from 1-20 in that time? What AT and sets, and what missions? -
Quote:+1000 for the article in question. New maps has been one of my biggest request for ages. One of the nice side aspects of using the AE is that people will use unique maps far more than what the devs will.http://www.massively.com/2010/02/03/...map/#continued
Massively gives is a pretty good write-up. I am sure anyone that has played this game for over a month would concur. The repetition in this game is savage and the main reason I stray! It's true!
Also, this just in, other related/surprising news: the sky is blue! -

Quote:And I still say blue side is messed just because there are common drops that go for way more than what I common should among other things. One example since this is the controller forum. One could craft common IOs and resell them for a profit by default. There might be some that were difficult to do, or you would lose out and certainly in certain price ranges. Most people don't craft common sleep IOs in mass to sell on the market for profit. There's just not enough market for it. But common hold IOs being way under valued? I know I have seen common hold IOs for 1K and we are talking level 35+. When I IOed out my Earth/storm with commons, I made sure to buy them at a proper price just to encourage people to sell and buy them for more.I strongly disagree. The blue market has been easier to break into (AE bronze reward rolls to get me on my feet). There is greater availability and less retarded level price fixing. Circuit boards were something like 150K red side the other night and there is not a damn thing to be done about it because the market sees such little activity. Blueside price fixing happens... but with red side I would be surprised to see that price return to anything resembling normal for at least three to four days, and then only if the marketeer who did it doesn't bother maintaining it. There simply is not enough supply to prevent things like that from being cornered.
Again, yes, red side is messed up to where it makes blue side seem like a dream. There was a time where my sig had the following...
How to fix the red side market.
Step 1. Play red side.
Step 2. Repeat step one.
Simply put, not enough people play red side and the market won't get better until more people do.
Vibe I get from the forum is the opposite and there was a thread asking people if they play the hero, or villain in games and the vast majority said hero. I know I have zero desire to role a hero and have them go red side. I'll be happy to be wrong because like I mention in response to the previous quote, red side needs people playing there. -
I have seen some people make some bad choices with it, but there are some out there that have really done a good job with it to the point I want to roll that power set even if I can't stand it. I'll probably steal some ideas instead. I still need to tweak some of my characters now that I have more options.

Quote:So you are both going for the Captain Obvious awards?I love how you completely miss PP's point. Lower end graphics cards will not be able to play Ultra Mode on HIGH settings. That is her point and she has gone out of her way to try and say just that without being rude.
Here is the thing, I know about computers. If you are trying to play Ultra Mode on a Commadore 64, you should think about Upgrading because it's not going to play Ultra Mode...
<--- will be playing GR with a graphics card that is 5+ years old. -

IMO, even the blue side market is messed up. Red side is a freak show and with lesser people playing since people are waiting on GR it's even more so. I don't see side switching as helping either because I think more people will bring villains blue side than vice versa.
For me personally, I would roll a scrapper for farming if I'm mostly soloing my way to 50. Let's say the Fire/kin outperforms the scrapper 38+. If it's not fun enough to get to 38, then the later out performance aspect doesn't matter. -
And to answer the OP, I like 1-14 just fine. 15-20 can be more of a drag just because you know what's coming in 20-22. I loath 21 because mobs have been bumped up, but you don't have SOs/level 25 IOs. I still think level 35 is really the end game turn point. Even with SOs, the lacks of slots can be a pain. By 35, slots fill out and you can really start adding in level 35 IO sets.
-
Quote:I used to do the IO thing fairly early and put in level 25s until a later time, but the buying and crafting aspect just slowed me down too much. I can earn enough to just sub in new SOs as I go and then add in IOs much closer to when I'm 50.I see it the same way, but take it a step farther. SOs (just as TOs and DOs) just aren't worth it since they expire in a few levels. I go straight for the regular IOs when my characters get to level 22 (because pre-level 25 IOs are just too weak). It's a bit more expensive for sure, but worth it in the long run.
-
Quote:It's insanely easy to be able to afford DOs.TOs and DOs really arent worth what you pay for them, though. At TO levels, you do level fast enough that its only really worth slotting drops. DOs cost is so much so that, unless you have a few recipes to sell, a level 50 to dump cash from, or shear good luck, by the time you've got to the point you can slot a character with level 15 DOs, they are now level 16.
If the game is balanced around SOs (afaik, thats the case) then why not make them the only enhancements? The ammount of descrepancy between the different xOs feels like some huge leftover from the reign of Jack. -
-
I don't disagree. I'm just saying I popped a Kat/wp on Test that was auto leveled there. All I had were SOs and I think they were yellow at that. I still have very little to no issue with end and that's again with no slotting of end in my attacks. My /regen uses .6825 end and that's not factoring in Sprint pretty much being on as well. I just don't see how a set which has a power that is better than Stamina having end issues to the point you delete it twice.
-
So you pretty much took as bad of attacks as you possibly could and poorly slotted them? Good thing you took the rez. Focus and Shockwave are non-debatable powers for a Claws/regen. CP is pure waste. PP I can see being skipped. I never really take self rez powers.

Quote:AVs. That's one big reason to keep Siphon Power in the build even later on.Siphon Power i'm iffy on. I mean figure this: Cast Total dom. Run in, use fulcrum shift. Use siphon speed. Hit Hasten. Hit Siphon Power. Back up and hit Terrify and your epic AoE... oops, Hold duration is over and no one's dead yet! The Siphon power was technically a waste of time in that scenario, especially since everyone is still one hit away from dying regardless. Having SP is just one more thing you're compelled to do and it doesn't even make a difference in your killing speed. Sometimes.
-
How for the love of god can you have end issues on a /regen? I went to 50 without IOs helping me out, or having end reduc slotting into my attacks. Unless there was something that specifically drained my end, then end wasn't an issue at all. I ran multiple toggles as well.

Neutrino Bolt = 1.5 sec.
X-Ray Beam = 1.67 sec.
Irradiate = 1.07 sec.
Electron Haze = 2.37 sec.
Cosmic Burst = 2.07 sec.
Neutron Bomb = 1.67 sec.
EH is faster than other AoEs. There are faster 3rd ST attacks, but CB is also one of the best compared to something like Shout. Long animations isn't something you can claim and actually back up. -
Quote:Forums != in game. To be honest, /sd is by far the most talked about secondary here and I don't have one. Of the three you listed as being on Freedom, I only have two of them and those are on other servers. When I get the chance I'm putting a Spines/elec on Freedom. I also have a new DB/elec on a different server and yet that is hardly talked about as well. Yes, certain builds get talked about here that you might not see them a ton in game, but then there are a lot of number crunchers here and builds that cost let's say 1 billion aren't not common in game, but it's easy to make one up using a build planner. Heck, even the /sd backers will admit it gets good "with a 'little' investment." I've got my 51 month badge and of the thee 3 50's I have, two of them where made before I was even on the forum, so I had no clue if they were good, or not. Even if the 3rd was a way classic combo, it was rolled due to concept. Fun in your head > what's talked about on the forum.Iv noticed that there are seemingly no Spines/Elec Scrappers running around. The last time i made mention of that build, the boards lit up, just to tell me it was the new Spines/Fire build.
So I though, "OK", and decided not to roll one up and play it, simply because I didnt wanna take a popular build.
Theres only 1 issue with this.I havnt seen ANY of those, ANYWHERE on Freedom.
Would people please clearify what server they are crawling all over the place on?Cause most of the builds that are soooo popular on the boards, dont exist on Freedom, and if they do, iv never seen them.
The only things I really see alot of on Freedom are Kat/SR, Kat/WP, and Elec/SD Scrappers.Thats about it.Mostly just the Elec/SD Scrappers.
Wheres all these other builds you see on the forums? -

Quote:Technical reasons? It already exist in the other 3 support sets. That sounds like wishful thinking. Posi didn't say that they would port Traps at all. They just said they wanted to proliferate every set they could. That leaves plenty of room for reasons why they "cant" ... from technical reasons, to balance reasons, to preference reasons, to manpower and scheduling reasons.
Don't get me wrong, I HOPE Controllers get both Poison and Traps. I'll be making Fire and Earth versions of both, as well as Gravity/Traps and possibly Illusion/Traps. I would love to eat crow on this. However, at this stage, it seems like a stretch that anything was said for sure.
Lewis
/hoping A_A is right
Balance reasons? It's already been "nerfed." How would /traps be overpowered compared to what controllers already get? I don't exactly see a bunch of Traps defenders running around these days. Again, it's in the three other sets and it's not even considered "the best" in any of them.
Manpower? Name me another support set that controllers don't have that would be easier to port? DM? No. "Poison?" No.
Preference? Using traps to help control something. Hmmm. It fits thematically as well.
You really have to go out of your way to think of why controllers wouldn't get /traps. Again, look at the reason certain sets that we know of that aren't getting ported are deemed that way. Ice/cold brutes? Fury issues. /shield for stalkers, Emp, and Poison? Due to theme even though there will be modified versions of the last two to fit within the theme. /traps suffers from none of that.
And yes, I really do need to roll a Garv/storm and just let the chaos happen.
