Mind/Kin builds

Anyone got some damage-focused Mind/Kin builds? I have an old 50 Mind/Kin sitting around kind of stripped ... even with IOs I never quite felt I could get the damage out of him that i wanted.

Willing to try again if a build looks interesting. Last time he was focused on Fireball/Fireblast in APPs ... maybe Fissure / Seismic Smash would be better.

Thx.

You're a Kin and have problems with damage?

Here's the thing: RECHARGE is the key, along with a healthy smattering of accuracy. That way, Total dom and Fulcrum Shift are almost always ready.

Controllers do extra damage when something is slept, held, immob'd or disoriented. Since Mind doesn't HAVE any immobs or disorients, its up to Mesmerize, Dominate, Mass Hypnosis, Total Domination and TK to help you get double damage every time. Unfortunately, sleep breaks when someone is attacked and holds are very short in duration and take forever to come back up (especially the AoEs). Tk is an end hog and continually pushes foes away from you.

So I recommend speccing for recharge. Get Hasten. Use Siphon Speed WHENEVER it's up (I find it best to use SS on a foe who's getting Knocked up by levitate; even if they run out of HP on the way up, you can still target them before they hit the ground and get your buff). This way, you have TD up as much as possible and can benefit from double damage as often as possible.

Siphon Power i'm iffy on. I mean figure this: Cast Total dom. Run in, use fulcrum shift. Use siphon speed. Hit Hasten. Hit Siphon Power. Back up and hit Terrify and your epic AoE... oops, Hold duration is over and no one's dead yet! The Siphon power was technically a waste of time in that scenario, especially since everyone is still one hit away from dying regardless. Having SP is just one more thing you're compelled to do and it doesn't even make a difference in your killing speed. Sometimes.

I'll post my build: it's not built for pure damage, but it does pretty good:

Other things you can do that i haven't done here is invest in Stun procs: the Pounding Slugfest one will fit in brawl, boxing, kick, air superiority, jump kick, or Flurry; The Energy Manipulator proc will fit in Transfusion and Transference. The basic idea here is to use powers that normally don't give a containment effect to do so and allow you to double your damage during your next attack. Also, the Decimation hold proc will go in any ranged powers. Use as many of those as you can!

You may want to consider deviating from this build to fit in Siphon Power, Assault and Tactics, as well as whatever epic you like the most. Earth would be a good choice min/max wise: it comes with an extra hold and a aoe Knockdown power which you can put a stun proc into =) Also, the single target attack does a crapload of damage.

Finally, know your limits. Most robots, Carnies, Ritki and some Arachnos troops have some measure of psi resistance... and that's most of your foes in the late game! So your lack of damage may stem from that, also.

Hope this helps!

AVs. That's one big reason to keep Siphon Power in the build even later on.

::nods::

A/V's are really the only reason to have SP. Even in the lower lvls I always found it to be more or less a waste of time. Mind/Kin is SUCH a busy build that I almost alwsys have something better to do than SP.

On A/V's though stacking the -dmg from FS and SP can work pretty well to help pull the A/V's teeth. Been so long though, I don't remember anymore, do the PToD resistances neuter the -dmg debuff?

Generally I find SP to be pretty high on the chopping block when I'm looking at a tight (and ALL Mind/ builds are tight ) Mind/Kin build. Are there even any decent IO sets for it? I'd be more inclined to use the power slot for a LotG mule, rech really does make a huge difference as mentioned above .

I've been away from CoX for quite awhile though, and while Mind/Kin is still my main, I lvled up Arg back in I2/I3/I4 when Mind was teh gimp and a Mind/Kin was viewed with pity . So I'm a bit out of date...

Siphon Power and Fulcrum shift do NOT take any IO sets. All they take is recharge, accuracy, and end redux. But if you get enough Acc and recharge bonuses, you can just slot SP for 1 end redux and FS for one acc + one recharge and you'll be golden.

PToD don't offer debuff resistance, though as enemies scale up, they become more naturally resistant to debuffs anyway (Look up "Purple Patch" for more on this).

LoTG only fits in Defense powers. The best you could hope for is Hover, Combat Jumping, Weave, Maneuvers and your Epic armor or some of the stealth pool powers. But that's a lot of powers to stack a recharge bonus, you're better off just getting hasten and trying to get it perma using siphon speed and smaller recharge bonuses, and Purples if you can afford 'em.

If you want a better idea of what powers take what sets, i cover that in my Mind/Kin guide here, if you haven't already read it.
