no, i like how the server i play on is... "DEAD!".....

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hmm, yeah, my server that is not Freedom or Virtue was so dead today that I only mapservered every 5 minutes instead of not being able to log in at all.

And that was on a relatively new laptop with good additional video. On a crappy machine, it would have been unbearable and unplayable.

(NOTE: AFAIK, there were no server lockouts today for anyone.)
  2. [ QUOTE ]
I agree with Medic. Between the awesome 'unlockables' you get for your base, and IO'ing your toon, you're spending way too much in influence/infamy for that singular rare you need. Seriously, 4 mil, easily for a Pangean Soil on Freedom, when the cost to upgrade your base was that of some base salvage that dropped all the time, back in the day.

Plus, I don't like the fact that salvage racks can only hold 30 items, when they used to be able to hold 999 or 1000 (can't remember). Kind of a step down to only be able to hold 30 items in an item rack. If we're going to have to contribute our invention salvage, up the storage rack holding numbers so we don't have to have 9 or 10 salvage racks. It may not cost much prestiege to have them, but it certainly costs in the end when you're running a realitively small base, and have to get the biggest storage room to accomodate.

This would be good feedback for Issue 13.

Unfortunately, this thread is for feedback for Issue 14.

    Back to I14.

It was a bit bizarre. The posting of the new red star went as described, no problems.

But 1 of 6 bases disappeared. The disappearance was the same as most of the others, as far as I can tell. The bizarre part is that our base didn't disappear until over a week after I14 released. And we hadn't done anything in that base differently from how we worked with the other 5 bases. All 6 bases are on different servers, but we didn't edit or anything else like that except remove our IO stashes once we heard of the prblem - but again we did the same for all of the 6 bases.

    Very annoying.

No, that's not "easy to fix." I'm not Memphis Bill1. I do not want a number after my name. If I did, I'd put one there. And if I have a character at the maximum number of letters in my name, you've just mangled the name.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Also, it makes a terrible mess if you have a number at the end of your name. If you are "Experiment 7" with a 7 on your chest, you are suddenly going to turn into "Experiment 71". Ooops.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, as I discovered when I transferred a second copy of my character Isotope 167 over to Test - that's not how this game handles a "forced" second character with the same name if the name has a number in it.

Isotope 167 didn't become Isotope 1671. She became Isotope 168.

Today on Protector there were a total of 12 yes 12 toons lvl 16-25 in total.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So wait - you are basing your ideas on lack of population based on what you see in one level range (not hidden) on one server ON SUNDAY MORNING? On a Sunday morning that (at least here in the midwest) is some of the best weather we have had for months?! (Note - it's in the 80's and sunny here in Columbus today, I really should be outside).

You can't use low traffic times as your measure of server population.

  6. [ QUOTE ]
I certainly can appreciate your desire to get constructive feedback. But the fact is that if a person isn't leaving that feedback today, they won't leave it if the system forces them to put something in that field.

The second reason this should be disallowed is that I've seen reports on the forums of mini flame wars. Example: someone rates an arc low with the comment "The minions are overpowered--they're mez-proof." The reply comes "Controllers and doms that try to solo missions with custom minions are just asking for trouble." Then you're off to the races with increasingly nasty tells. Then comes the retribution of 0-starring the arcs of the person sending the critique.

So I disagree with your suggestion on the grounds that it won't accomplish what you want it to accomplish. There won't be an increase in constructive criticism, and you'll get people who avoid conflict who will skip rating arcs at all.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    QFT

I know that some really, really welcome any comments given - and I applaud their maturity and desire to improve.

But as we have seen in some other threads the past couple of weeks (and as I have experienced elsewhere when asked to provide feedback on someone's creative project), there are also many people out there who truly do NOT want honest feedback. They just want to hear how wonderful their own "perfect snowflake" was. No matter how often they state "Tell me what you really think".

And or system of offering feedback is also not conducive to offering enough feedback to be truly helpful. Good feedback is a dialogue, not a /tell. I don't have time I want to devote to offering feedback on something I thought was awful enough to rate as 1-2 stars.

Forced feedback via required comments is not a good idea. It would result in a system where bad creations would not even receive the minimal feedback of low ratings.

Ok. You would like to see vehicles added to the game, I give you a challenge.

Come up with a VALID reason as to WHY vehicles should be added by following these rules:

    (1) Refrain from using OTHER MMOs as a source of reference.

    (2) The reason(s) MUST be in paragraph form. None of the following will be allowed:
    (a) Because it would be cool.
    (b) Because we need it.
    (c) Because I'm bored.
    (Invalid reasons)

(3)Spell check and sentence structure is important. (Remember you're trying to convince the majority of players WHY this lvl cap is needed. Please, sound out the word(s) before you type them.)

    (4) Your statements MUST be based on FACT and NOT the rantings of a 5 year old that just wants and wants and wants.

    (5) Your reason(s) must FIX the issues rather than create new ones

So, there you have it. Lets see what you've got.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    you forgot

    (6) The implementation should, feasibly, fulfill the quality requirements that the devs insist upon having. No half-[censored] implementations.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, first it's a cut and paste A_P came up with for a different subject. I just tweaked the wording to fit this subject. and second, I think it's challenging enough as it is. No need for the added difficulty.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You missed an edit in the third bullet point, Forbin. It still refers to "lvl cap" instead of vehicles.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
I've never heard of an Only One Animated Piece rule. Would it be possible to get a link to it?

While Capes do interfere with the Bolero, Wings aren't capes, and their movement is up and away from where the Bolero hangs.

Also by simply cutting off the Cape part, the Top of the Bolero would make a spiffy Jacket option, and the High Collar would go nicely as an addition to the chest options.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Agreed.

love the off-the-shoulder neckline of the bolero and I really like the way it frames some of the Tops with Skin. The lacy bridal pack pieces look especially cool. I would love to see a short version of it.

And definitely /signed to the original suggestion as well.

Soooo, what's a good and fun server to play on? I had a few suggestions by PM already but I'd love to hear what people have to say.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm a fan of Infinity and Liberty myself. I have 12 alts on both of them.

I can offer you coalitions to your soon-to-be new SG until you get on your feet on the new server if it's either of these.

Infinity is typically the third or fourth most active server. We have the Taxibots and some other groups regularly running events, if you are interested in that.

Liberty has a fun-loving, helpful group of players who will pitch in to assist if needed, with either an answer to a question or even a helping hand in a tough mission.

BTW, Guardian is my third server, but y'all are already using that one.
  10. While I'm not sure whether 14 days is the right amount of time to lock the HoF status, I do like the idea of a period of time for an arc to stay at HoF level before potentially being lowered.

As it stands now, unless you hit exactly the right time, you never know an acr got to HoF status because it drops so quickly.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
And if the arc proves to be impossible for me?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Which is why they would add a separate enumerator for "attempts". If, when selecting the arc, you see a very bad ratio of attempts to ratings (~1:10), you'd be able to figure that, hey, this is a really hard arc. It also forces/encourages designers to make sure that the challenges are appropriate. If the arc is too hard, they won't get ratings. If it's bad, they won't get good ratings. That means that, in order to get a large number of good ratings (which is currently really easy), you've got to write a good arc that strike an appropriate balance of difficulty (which is part of what I consider when rating anyways).

    [/ QUOTE ]

But where would this arc with a high number of stars but a "low" attempt/completions rating fall on the Search tool we use to acceess MA content? Would it still be in the upper range because it got 5 stars from the few people who completed it? If so, then it still "rewards" a bad arc with a higher placement in the list than an arc that properly got low ratings in stars for being "uncompleteable" that was not marked as "must play thru to completion".

And frankly, while I understand the issue that people can go out and hunt for arcs to deliberately "grief" with low ratings, an arc that is so poorly written that it can't be completed without "forcing" completion - then it really needs to be rated accordingly.

  13. [ QUOTE ]
I'm sure they are plenty of other people out there who've had their super groups made fun of because of their names. Be able to change their names should be a simple thing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I believe that technically it might be a simple change that *could* be made by CS/GM - but that leads to the question of who gets to ask that it be changed? Any member? A majority of members? Only the new Superleader?

Who "owns" the SG? Is it owned by the person who founded it, the current SuperLeader, or all the members jointly?

It's an easy question for a solo SG, and perhaps an easy question for a 2-6 person SG, but much thornier for the largest SGs out there.

I am so buying this next week...
  15. [ QUOTE ]
I'm surprised at all the hate on this topic.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Wait -

There was "hate" in my reply? And Forbin's quote of it and Aett's "indications point to 'no'" and Lothic's partial agreement?

I was just trying to point out that given scarce resources for "Power Customization" in general, I would prefer they use those resources to make stuff usable by a wider section of the playerbase (all of them vs. Vets).

If you are asking to have additional options to choose from, the problem I could see with that is Forbin's observation that once chosen, these Vet Powers can't be repicked, although a second one can be chosen at the 60 month Vet mark. I, for one, have already chosen between the Nemmie Staff & the BlackWand and between the Sands and the Axe for all my characters - I do that in Breakout or Outbreak. If they could find a way to let me repick one of your new options, sure, more choices are fine.

But that still doesn't get past the allocation of scarce resources question. I want lots more options added to Powersets for new characters first, before we have time spent on adding choices (and the ability to repick) for Vet Rewards. If they can do both without harming the addition of new Powersets, then, sure, why not?
  16. Why would they customize Veteran Powers (which are a freebie reward for only a part of the game population) when they haven't yet done any customization for the vast majority of regular powers (other than Weapon Customization) that ALL players use? That doesn't seem like the best use of their time, especially since after the first levels, many Vets don't even use the Vet Reward powers because they can't be enhanced.

As far as daggers and grenades go - if you want daggers, make our character Natural Origin and get Throwing Knives; all of the Origins get a minor thrown weapon power power resembling darts or grenades. Not as powerful as Warshade on a Stick or the Giant Tech Lollipop of Doom but available to every player who chooses that Origin.

Some SG's don't want you knowing everything that's in storage.

Some SG's have bins set up for personal use with rank permissions locking you out. It's none of your business what they have put aside.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Pardon my ignorance, being somewhat new to base design, but how exactly does one change the rank permissions for one salvage rack and not the entire base? Is it even possible? Cause if it's the entire base that is set, that argument makes absolutely no sense - if the rank limits are on, people couldn't grab stuff out of my list idea either.

As far as I'm concerned, base salvage racks are [u]public[u] storage, and when I put things in the racks I'm putting them there to benefit my fellow SG mates as well as possibly myself later. If you're so worried about your own personal horde and greedily hiding that stuff away, maybe you should complain about the ridiculously small personal storage space offered instead. Or suggest some private storage locker options, rather than shooting down ideas for the public storage systems.

And honestly, if you've promoted someone high enough and then had them steal from you, maybe you need to rethink your promotion and member evaluation methods... [u]plah[u]

    [/ QUOTE ]

Issue 14 will have individual storage rack permissions. Your suggestion is actually counter to what has been long requested by the Base Building community - that we be given a way to distinguish permissions between ranks. This will be especially helpful for those SGs who want to allow access to Common IOs and Inspirations to all members and restrict Set IOs to higher ranks.

In addition, if you are a SG member with Base Editing privileges, you can wall off rooms now that they eliminated Raid Pathing restrictions.

Another idea I had was Car Chase Missions where you must use your vehicle to destroy/disable a getaway car before it leaves the map. However, you cannot get Car Chase Missions if you do not have a vehicle!

    [/ QUOTE ]

I liked this idea (except for the being in a vehicle of your own part). Personally I think it would be nice to have a battle like they had in the second matrix movie where you're standing on the top of a vehicle. Falling off could work much like the shadow shard, the whole floor could be an animated texture and you would fight enemy mobs that teleport in while you try to protect (or disable) the vehicle you're on top of. Would be even better if special enemy vehicles could come after you like a malta black van.

Forbin is worth repeating on this idea, I think:

  21. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
What I would suggest (for a ranged set) would be a mixture of attacks from existing sets, but with different damage types.

For a "Magic-y" feel in almost no particular order:
    Fire Blast (ST) (Fire Damage)
    Fire Ball (AoE) (Fire Damage)
Ice Blast (ST) (Cold Damage, -rech)
Lightning Bolt or Charged Bolts (ST) (Energy Damage, minor End Drain)
Chain Lightning (Energy Damage, see Brute's Electric Melee)
Mystic Bolt (renamed Energy Blast) (Energy/Smashing, low magnitude KB)
Aim (Yeah, Aim. Just because. )
Gale (Cone, Very minor smashing damage, high KB.)
    Blizzard.
    .....and so on.

It wouldn't exactly be the same as any other set.
    Weaknesses:
*Unable to fully take advantage of a foe that's weak against a specific damage type.
    *Unable to stack secondary effects.

    Strengths:
*Never fully shut down against a foe that's highly resistant to a specific damage type.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Again, what I had in mind was a more neutral energy style. Think of the blast animations looking a lot like an energy blaster/peacebringer's attacks. Instead of coming out of their hands, it's coming from a staff. This will somewhat limit the work needed on the devs part, while at the same time leaving room to make a more balanced ranged set, complete with a sniper attack, aim, a nuke, etc.

Combine this neutral idea with the staff option idea that Hero_of_Steel presented, and we've got options that any origin can use.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Kinda sounds like what you are asking for, then is "Energy Blast - but it comes from a STAFF!" - what someone else upthread already pointed out (except he used Fire Blast).

That would essentially make it Power Customization of an existing powerset - not a new powerset at all. And we have had a bajillion previous discussions about how cool it would be to customize powers to make then look different - but BaB posted a FAQ on the topic that indicates it is unlikely to happen.

Also upthread, when someone opined that a staff set would seem to be limited because it indicates Magic Oirgin, you stated that other powersets already indicate specific origins. You used FF as being Tech and Dual Blades as being Natural, among others. My Force Fields are bubbles of magic shielding bthat protect my allies; my Dual Blades are magical blades, which adds to their awesome speed and damage. Also, my Radiation Blasts and Radiation Emission are magical blasts and hexes - because I wanted to see it that way. You have limited yourself if you can't visualize different origins for powersets instead of going with your first impression.

I want to walk just because I can't do it already, and after 5 mins of it I imagine I'll be bored of the slow pace and run everywhere again lmao.

Seriously though, from an RP perspective I can see why people have always wanted this but for the work it'll take I doubt we'll see it any time soon.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And the bolded part is exactly why BaBs shouldn't spend any time on it. I would prefer he spend the time making animations that would be used, on new powersets mostly.

We are not allowed to have short or single word responses such as "No" anymore, since the recent mod crackdown on this (which I actually think is the second such crackdown, if I remember correctly). Though even though this suggestion only really deserves a simple "No", I'm going to have to ramble on like this in order to make it a valid reply.

I just simply think this idea is really, really bad. However, I want this reply to be somewhat constructive, so I'll go ahead and give some advice/feedback. The forums have a cool new feature called the "search" function. It's located near the top of the screen, so you may have to scroll up a bit to see it. I suggest you click on it and familiarize yourself with it's uses. It can save you a lot of time if used properly!
