The relevance of the defender/blaster comparison is simple. The Brute AT is designed to hold aggro, but lacks the tools on it's own to survive it (excluding Stone). The job of a Blaster is to kill. The job of a Defender is to protect the team. Considering the benefits the two get from Tough (especially Defenders), an AT designed to hold aggro should get a higher benefit from Tough to help it survive. A 17.8 boost is pathetic by comparison.
[/ QUOTE ]
I disagree that the Brute AT is designed to hold aggro. Its designed to SMASH and do damage.
Brutes are not tanks they are Brutes and going on a Fury fueled rampage is what they do best. -

LB Minions(Spec-Ops) are capable of totally shutting down your regen and LTs (Nullifiers) can lower your resistance very badly.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yet teams insist on fighting in the middle of those Debuffs. You can get them to drop the debuffs then move the cernter of the scrum out of the debuff. Survival goes way up then.
I know its hard to teach teams but if your taking teh alpha you have a lot of control where the fight is placed. -
From what I read many consider SS/WP to be easy mode. I know my SS are a lot of fun to play.
My alt L28 Claw/WP. Was gathering up my aggro limit of +1 Elk in Croatoa and slaughtering. At L30 I was holding one side of the prevent the pumkins from escaping for our team. While others (with SK) held the other side or ranged out to wipe spawns.
Frankly LB are a pain as I usually am playing Electric Armor the most. Resistance based can get pretty chewed up. I think play/combat style have a lot to do with how well some sets preform.
Example: At L48 my SM/Elec Brute was one of the lower level brutes on a large team of Brutes. No Tremor no aid self no power surge. Were running someones patron arc full of LB and most are getting their a$$ kicked. One of my new friends say let this guy (me) take the alpha. They snicker as I am the lowest on the team. A few more near wipes and I get to try. I would take the inital hit as I charged in. As an Electric armor the grenades suck. But yet I can come out alive. WP should have less problems if you can get your team to not camp the fight out in the middle of the debuffs. Yes there were times I had to pop a green but they were few.
Here is a quote for you
I find the amount of inspirations I need are usually directly preportional to how stupid or overconfident I am.
The smarter I play the less I need them. -
Maybe I am getting hung up on your term Tanking. I agree you should be able to defeat 7-8 man spawns. Especially if your L45 now certain opponents might require an adjustment in tactics. I do not understand why your having problems.
While I do not have a SS/WP. I do have a few SS and a few WP. My WP seem to do very well in crowds without IO's. My L28 SM/WP Brute does not even have Fault or really need it.
My L30 Claw/WP Scrapper handles Hazard zone spawns quite well and even herds to better use his AOE.
I tend to hear this problem about Brutes not preforming well when people use the term tanking. My Brutes preform a lot better when they are Bruting rather than Tanking. -
Of my Electric Armor Brutes only one of the 5 took Power Surge. I do have two SS/Elec only my first one took it and uses it to hold my Aegis and Steadfast specials. Since I rarely use Power Surge and most of my Electric builds are pretty tight I skip it.
I see lots of people having problems with Electric Armor. This week I was talking with a L20 SM/ELec who was suffering. I said I know how you feel it gets better Electric greatly improves with SO's and Tough. I logged my SM/Elec and we ran some missions so he could see the future in action. We also talked about fighting style and how I run mine and why.
I think most peoples prolblems with Electric is it does not play slow well. Holding aggro for a team or being the only melee person on a team can be rough. Since your nearly always waiting for the team to catch up.
Electric plays very well in the SPEED Brute role gaining Fury and focusing on getting to the next spawn. I focus on Recharge post power sink. It can be a lot of fun.

Actually, there is no spoon.
For the record, there is NO Issue 15 Closed Beta.
Where:
Issue 15 Beta will occur on the Training Room (in both North America and Europe), and not on a separate server (like the Macintosh Closed Beta)
Who:
Issue 15 Beta will be open to everyone who has an active account. Trial Account users will have access to the Training Room, however Trial Account limitations will still be in place on those Trial Accounts.

DA for me is for theme based characters that just need a cool END sapping costume aura. When you just have to look bad nothing says bad like skulls floating around you.
Fire/DA makes a good looking Balrog though. I added a Kinetic chance for KD in each sword.
I find Dark Armor works best with Dark melee. The fear and healing can be insane. -

[ QUOTE ]
How can anyone say this isnt great?
[/ QUOTE ]
How? Ill tell you how.
First, it will deflate the population of potential teammates. Want to run that Sewer Trial for the badge, and for the fun of it, because you havent run one in forever? Want to run the 2nd respec task force to re-do your characters slots or powers? Want help taking down Infernal? Well, guess what? Your pool of participants will be reduced by the MA in a real, and not-insignificant way - those potential teammates who could have joined you are working - whoops! I meant to say writing - MA arcs and arent playing as characters.
Second, it is a gimmick completely disconnected from the CoH game lore. Lets face it, the MA is a stand-alone feature in the game that doesnt develop any of the CoH backstory. Its a flashy gimmick intended to sell box sets, and grab publicity and attention from the gaming world. In other words, its a marketing tool to get more cash into the devs' pockets.
Third, the vast majority of storytelling will be cringe-worthy. Have you read through the fanfic in the roleplay section of this very forum? No offense to anyone, but it aint my cup of tea - I cannot spend more than 90 seconds reading through any of it before I cringe, embarrassed, and click out of it. A lot of my in-game friends cannot spell. A LOT. A lot of my in-game friends have no imagination when it comes to creating an interesting costume (copy-paste the Enforcer outfit and change the colors and body size, literally, to a dozen characters). A LOT. A lot of my in-game friends who have actually written character bios have produced only derivative and loopy ones (you have seen that thread in our forum where the person - however mean-spirited it might have been - was copying ridiculous character bios to his website blog, havent you?). A LOT.
Fourth, the writing that will come from the MA is going to be very limited - sure, you can write NPC dialogue, or begin the mission dialogue, or contact dialogue. But thats it. If I want to read a great story, Ill go to Borders and buy a book, not log into City of Frickin Heroes! If I want to write, I will launch Microsoft Word and type, not log into City of Frickin Heroes! And truth be told, guess how many of my in-game friends RARELY paid any attention to what the actual text was associated with any mission, anyway? A LOT.
Fifth, a lot of people wont bother creating missions, because it will be too much of a chore. Guess how many of my in-game friends dont go into minute detail with the costume creator? Guess how many of my in-game friends don't use the SG base editor to either create their own base or revise a current base? Guess how many of my friends log into the game just to have fun by blasting or smashing stuff since this is, in fact, a comic-book-based action video game and they want to unwind and need a break from work (whether that is a job, studying, or taking care of the kids, etc)? A LOT.
Sixth, it will be filled with the usual horrific bugs and egregious exploits that will necessitate shutting down the MA entirely, and possibly even the game, for extended periods of time for emergency fixes. Merits. Nuff said.
[/ QUOTE ]
All I can say is wow your Friends must suck. My SG friends are essentially the opposite to yours. -
I have been wondering when the red side market was going to see the boom predicted back in beta.
While I have been cautious about commenting on Merits. The further into this system the further I am having to go from my traditional "FUN" to earn these rewards. At 2 merits per Arc its going to take 10 Arc's to even get a random roll.
To me it seems you need a true grinding character now to be able to take advantage of this system. I feel more compelled to farm and grind than ever before. Which is not as much Fun for me. -
[ QUOTE ]
Only really awesome things cook breakfast. make the merit system that awesome and it would fix alot of problems. dont like farming? make things more obtainable and there wont be any need for farming. make it so 50's can purp out themselves without the need of teams. make it so that the lowbies can get tricked out at a low lvl. make it as awesome as something that would cook breakfast. im hawngry.
[/ QUOTE ]
Subjective: Face it its become City of Farming more and more. With the addition of the merit system which I thought I would like my ability to particpate in the Invention system has been severly reduced. I have run a few new characters through what I would call a fairly normal leveling progress. Focusing on doing Arc's for rewards and have concluded I should have my first randon TF roll in the early 20's.
Due to the time of night I normally play and for how long I usually do not get on TF/SF teams. Which cuts my options way off. I either play the current alt I have been leveling or I farm. I cannot play the character I want to level and expect to earn enough merit to be useful.
While my SG has figured out how to make a merit a minute it requires playing the same character over and over and over doing the same thing over and over and over.
While I had hoped to use this system to get the few recipes I could not get in the Red side market (that one Kinetic combat or Imperium Armor) due to lack of sales. I now realise I cannot compete and it will take a lot of careful farming to get the few things I really want on one or two characters. The time sink for me at least doubled.
While I can figure out ways to get Merits to get the few hard to find items it takes the fun right out of it for me. -
With out a doubt VEAT's.
Other things I like not limited to 2008 because I think its the improvements post Cryptic that earned this. Not just 11.5-13.
IO's
RWZ
Rikti/Zombie Invasions
New mezz toggle feature.
Dual Build option.
But with the good comes the bad and almost all are Issue 13 related.
IO's acquistion difficulty and acquistion methods.
"NEW" Broken PVP.
Chat system issues.
Content repetition and predictablity. -
During testing I was not sure how the merits would work out. So I did not say anything. Now that its weeks out and i have had a chance to play a new character up to L37 I can say. I feel left behind. Merit costs on recipes are so high compared to my earning capacity.
My main problem is to afford anything specific I need to have a dedicated Merit Farmer. Because merit rewards cannot be shared I need one respository of merit. At a made up rate of 25 merit per hour it will take some time to earn anything fancy. I have also compared my INF earning rates and my Merit earning rates.
Previously if I wanted an expensive reward I could "CHOOSE" to pool all my INF on one character to afford the market price. Plus people were selling drops they could not use. -

Content is what we Need
Not only do I want more Zones..Give us more Giant Monsters and Zone Events Please..I love all the unique GMs heroside.
Can't be that hard to make new Giant Monsters in existing zones. Anyone here actually SEEN Caleb? How about that Arachnos Flyer...come on...something we can actually find and kill lol
[/ QUOTE ]
I have never seen Caleb in the recent past I have seen the announcement that he is around. As far as the flier I have seen those announcements as well. But I see it all the time in MI...
Frankly I would like to see an Indpendance Port sized zone with its own sub zone like TV. This could be a Mayhem styled PVP zone with contacts and openable side missions etc. Destructable environment etc. Tie it to the orobours and have corono resets that place all the destroyed stuff back. Have the door to the TV zone be like a vault door etc.
EDIT: I agree on the mission maps but have hopes that the out growth of Issue 14 allows us to make maps.

Move to the negative feed back section. I am glad to see you have a spot for both now.

This is my pirate name from talk like a pirate day years ago
(Infinity) Iron Jack Racham. A Ghost of a Pirate come back to semi life he successfully took over the Skittle Pirates an all Pirate VG and become Captain of the ship during a change in management.
A skull for a head with an Eye patch and a Cigar not to mention his movement power is SUPER SPEED. Which is so funny seeing him hunched over going clump clop along.
He is a Dark/Dark Brute currently L40. He is fun and funny to play. On PU groups I am almost always in pirate speak or I say Arrr a lot. My Battle cry is "Dead men tell no tales". I love to siphon life as a finishing move its so right for a ghost.
Iron Jack Racham
Found my Ghost aura look standing at the Nerva Docks.

Most excellent work. Praise to the Dev crew.

Sigh. This is just ridiculous, of course, the h to v balance wasn't even remotely addressed in the post. Villains are really screwed now.
Storm, and even Empathy for villains wouldn't save them for the disaster that is looming anyway. I'm trying to figure out what the point of playing any villain AT outside of a stalker is now in PvP.
[/ QUOTE ]
Now that I see the details of this Psi/Psi i now understand how they are going to bring balance to (the Force) PVP.
With this power set I see less villains being defeated in PVP. For the simple reason that who will be playing Villains after this is available. Ok maybe some die hard is playing VEATS or there are still stalkers out there but the numbers of unique victims will deminish.
So just like the Jedi being unable to see how balance would come to the force I think something similar will happen here. -

Strange, because I get hardly any lag in Grandville.

I have one of the most powerful computers at a job that is... let's say "computer based".
I get lag when I play it there. We're talking a computer that runs The Orange Box on highest settings without a hiccup. That just aint right.
[/ QUOTE ]
Weird I run a Dual 3800 AMD with 3 GB ram and a NVidia 7600 256Mb video card and only had issues with GV when it was new it rarely lags on me. One issue i do notice is that i rubber band on nearly every zone load and have to wait a monment before moving.
One thing that is a consistent lag for me is certain Archnos missions (St Martial).
My biggest other issue is sound looping locks. But that is rare. -
Yeah I missed half this the first time due to vacations.
once the anouncement changed from RED to green I was missing the few that spawned unless I was watching or zoned into an area and thought why is the sky funny. -

In my opinion (for as little as it's worth)...
The only TRUE way to 'balance' PvP is to open BOTH SETS OF Archetypes to each side and open up power sets to both sides.
That way,
* A Blaster Hero Side can duke it out with a Destroyer Villain Side.
* A Defender Hero Side can duke it out with a Defiler Villain Side.
* A Corrupter Villain Side can duke it out with a Guardian Hero Side.
* A Brute Villain Side can duke it out with a Crusader Hero Side.
* A Tanker Hero Side can duke it out with a Monolith Villain Side.
* A Dominator Villain Side can duke it out with an Overlord Hero Side.
* A Scrapper Hero Side can duke it out with a Marauder Villain Side.
* A Stalker Villain Side can duke it out with a Vigilante Hero Side.
* A Controller Hero Side can duke it out with a Minister Villain Side.
* A Mastermind Villain Side can duke it out with a Commander Hero Side.
Open Peacebringers & Warshades to Villain side.
Keep things 'even.' Keep things 'balanced.' And far less complicated than how things are balanced---or attempted to be balanced---currently.
In addition, you gain greater variability across all character types. Certainly, there will have to be changes, alterations, corrections and tweaks to specific powersets per character type. But...if I want to take a blaster or destroyer into a PvP setting to square off against its opposite, I know at the very least that those two character types are mirror-image based off one another. The difference comes into play only with (A) the powers I choose for my character; (B) how I slot my character; and (C) the tricks and skills I play with---(and the esoteric stuff of connectivity, computer processing, binds, etc).
Just my thoughts.
~ Jonathan
PS---the varying and broadening content this alone would bring to the game would be worth it.
PPS---and an additional server needs to be added---a live server that allows you to upload any character that you have on any server to this "PvP Server" (and back again as easily as you zone into the game) so that the small pvp participants on this game have a place they can all gather to finally get to do all-out PvP.
PPPS---OH!...And Epics would HAVE to be opened to Villain side and Patrons would HAVE to be opened to Hero side. He11, that's the way it should be now regardless of this PvP question.

OT: but you mentioned destroyers and i have often dreamed of a COV destroyer. Destroyer has access to any Blaster/ Corruptor primary as their primary and as a secondary the choice of any other primary other that the one they just took.
Ranged Destroyer. Ok no Buildup this way but oh well.
Monolith hmmmmm I like this too. -
I had been thinking about transfering another character but after my first go round with the chracters successful transfer and the deactivation of my Credit card due to suspected fraud from the trasactions. Imagine my surprise when I am in the middle of nowhere and my card does not work after an NC Soft transaction.
From reading here it does not sound like NC has fixed this at all and I run the risk of another deactivation because of this.
I say NC because it seems their is something wrong with the way they are transacting this. I buy stuff all the time online and never have I had this kind of trouble.
It looks like I will be waiting longer. -
I was slotting Transference and noted that any END mod % went away when I placed the last of my set IO. 3 Efficency Adaptor 3 Preformance shifter.
When I started slotting these I noted I had 4 Enhancement catagories.
ACC
END Mod
END
Recharge
When the last Set replaced the last SO END MOD it went to
ACC
END
Recharge
I have not tested to see what the END cost of this power is now. But I have sneaky idea what it might be. -

I am very excited given the changes i have seen in 07. I can only guess how much better it will get.
