  1. Wait, sorry, many broken bones and potential death isn't an ***-kicking where you come from?

Why, so you can watch a trained combat expert kick the **** out of a skinny nerd? What I can do is immaterial. You merely have to point out the widespread use of the whip by police forces to reinforce your point, or the way most countries have stringent whip control laws, or to quote the statistic on yearly deaths in whip fights.
  3. In the real world, whips are not in fact, 'very potent weapons,' unless you're using them as the baseline, in which case things like knives and guns become 'COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS' weapons.

Whips don't really do a hell of a lot to people, they need a lot of area to be useful, and the primary force of the thing is dispersed.

    Just use a gun already.

Far as a whip set goes... Yes. The presence of a whip set in the game might make a whip set more likely.
  4. Also note that the Luck Of The Gambler bonus of 7.5% is differently-named and therefore stacks with the 7.5 bonus you find in Gaze of the Basilisk, Sting of the Manticore and Kinetic Crash.

Because blasting is more fun, because waiting 41 levels to do direct damage is a chore, because you're less likely to get nerfed, because you have more and more interesting IO options, because you can better leverage several defender powers or powersets.

But that's only from people who don't understand Gravity, the people who don't love it like you do, the people who aren't allowed to have opinions on Gravity because their opinion doesn't mesh with yours.

That said, last time this ridiculousness cropped up, there was one vociferous proponent of Gravity who was aggressive and adamant about Dim Shift because it let him dismantle AV spawns.

EDIT- To be specific, it procs per Click of a skill. This is how a skill like BU can fire it. By making the proc work with BU, it basically breaks and advantage that SD might have.
*nods* I was making an assumption based on the way procs in AoE click powers work, conventionally speaking. Thanks for the elucidation.

increase. But since a tanker is obviously not a Brute this would not be constantly buffing
the tankers damage. Instead the tanker would have an inherent click power that could be
activated to give the tanker the damage buff for only one ST attack and reset the fury
bar back to zero. In addition maybe something like a PBAOE taunt and a to-hit debuff. Or
maybe take the taunt out and give some kind of leadership style buff to your teammates.

Feel free to pick this idea apart or take it and further develop it. Whichever suits you
    It sounds really, really annoying.
  11. I'm still not understanding you.

Are you saying that plant/thorn does need fitness early in its life?
  12. It's less 'those don't count,' and more 'You're wrong.'

Bonus, you left. Twice. You're really bad at that.

I'm not sure I understand you.

I'm unlikely to get excited about anything involving PvP; it's just not my bag.
I'm more amused that the 5th column have returned 3 times now and still aren't actually back.

Plus, swinging is a limited option in that it requires the environment to behave in a particular fashion. Specifically, you need things to swing off. Getting across parts of Indy port wouldn't really be very usable with swinging. Same with any part of Grandville outside the city walls.

    Thanks Smurphy

There's something really cool about the fact that they consider that worthwhile.
  18. Remember when I did this for thorns? As part of the I15 revamp to Dominators, I did a pass through all my dominators and made some new ones, with the idea I'd see the low-level experience and determine what I thought. One of those builds - because the complaining was so great - was a Fire/Psi. I hadn't levelled one up through the 'hard yards' in the old game (though I did have a grav/psi that I got to 22 out of a sense of bloodymindedness, then deleted because I never wanted to see him again), and this was seen as somehow delegitimizing my opinion.

Now, a bigger man would have ignored such claims as a rule. But a bigger man wouldn't have levelled a mind/energy dominator to 50 purely to prove that you can permadom for a small amount of inf. So, indulging my sense of pettiness, I made a fire/psi, and took him out in a variety of test environments while levelling him up. I feel that some of this information might interesting to share.

    The Good
Char, Flashfire and Fire Cages are all the same as they've ever been. Good powers that I'm used to using. The biggest gap in power came at level 12 to 15 when DOs were just not cutting it for my AoE stun, which wouldn't be up every spawn. On small teams, char would do the job because it wasn't up to me to control everything, just whatever was in my grill. On larger teams, the stun became more desireable, and less available. Oh well.

Endurance wasn't the problem I'd heard it would be. I was far more frustrated in the low level region of the game by accuracy woes rather than endurance problems. Looking at the set in mids (which obviously is old info, but it was the resource I had at hand) indicated that it was mostly in my head - there weren't any clear crap powers for accuracy. Still odd.

    The Bad
Drain Psyche looked like the bees knees, and one of the things that most excited me about playing the set. I now don't believe I was right in this perspective. Drain Psyche is a great power, but it's not as useful to my playstyle as Stamina - certainly not out of the box. DP needs something in the district of 4 slots, probably 6 to really shine with just SOs, which is a very distinct change in how I expect to play once I get SOs. Rather than go up-and-down I'm planning on respeccing and using 20 to pick up Stamina, and put Drain Psyche as my level 22 or 24, with intent to slot it out.

Psionic Dart has no sockets, Psionic Dart gets no sockets. It still seems like its only purpose is to love-tap opponents (unlike the Elec Assault T1, which seems a lot more of a solid hit). I couldn't pick Mental Blast from Psi Dart, either - they just seem to be there, with a quiet expectation that come 38 I'll probably forget I've got 'em.

    The Ugly
Now with the build I have, and the play experience I've had so far, level 38 with PSW actually looks not like an evolutionary change, but a revolutionary change. I fear that come 38, the entire character's playstyle will transform to accommodate thise elephant-in-the-room power.

Fire control's still a little thin for my tastes, and with Psi as its backup instead of Fire, I have more powers I think I should pick up for their niche utility (to combine with my own fear of being caught with my pants down).

Also, the set feels very bleh as far as IO options go. I'm sure I could bust my butt to get high recharge - again - but I don't feel this combo has had anything opened up thanks to the domination changes. I can't see an easy or clear build idea beyond making Drain Psyche permanent and getting Psw to Psw more often.
  19. It's easier to avoid Longbow than you think. And commanders, while annoying, are not so common that I even knew they did that conf resistance. Besides, that's a useful application of Domination, no?
  20. I think part of it is the perspective on what you're trying to mitigate. In my view, you're mitigating death, not mitigating HP loss. You suffer no loss in performance or ability as your HP go down. The only HP that matters is the last one.

HP themselves are a type of mitigation (high pain tolerance, f'rex).

That look like a good place for you to start? Myself, I'm very fond of the minimalistic frankenslotting, especially now permadom is NBNN.
  22. I'm more wondering where this dovetails into the idea that this power, out of the box, should be so endurance and effort intensive. Or how its two gateway powers are on par with hasten/combat jumping/hover/air superiority.

Someone has to have the worst gateway, I suppose.
