  1. By your own admission you do NOT know the code.

There is no such thing as a single binary on-off switch that could possibly affect a PVP on/off mode. Why?

Because as you should know - behind that switch is a whole slew of changes to the data that must go through and NOT affect anything else. Come on. You should know better if you claim to be a programmer in ANY language.

And again: they CANNOT do something "just on one server". Ever. It's all or nothing. That is, again, why the Korean and Euro servers were and always will be *separate things* from the North American servers. They served a *different game*. Enough is different that it would be an impossibility to maintain.

And also once more: there is no circumstance that an ingame thing like this which could allow tremendous griefing, should ever be one forgotten toggle away. Ever.

We have been given pvp zones and the arena. If folks aren't using those, they aren't going to want world-wide pvp either. And: those that WOULD like it?

Frankly, I don't want to play with those people. Ever.
  2. It looks like a great idea. I'm all for more IO sets, they're plenty fun as they are for other ATs. To have something specific to Khelds is good because I don't see them "fixing" kheldian slotting any time soon. So, more bang for your buck, if you've got to blow the slots you might as well have something worth putting in them.

    End Game Content

The developers have stated clearly in the panel at this year's Comic Con, that they are working on "post 50 content that's more challenging than anything you've ever seen".

As I said, the PvP Flag is already there (turns on when you go Recluse's Victory...), the /Duel command would turn this on in any Zone. Now, to limit PvP to just a few participants while everyone else can just stand around and watch in safety might require a bit more work, but once done essentially the same code would apply to all servers. Then, to limit it to one server I can't see requiring much more than a binary switch. In other words, there isn't a need for more than one code base. All Servers have the same code - all but one have a binary flag turned off.

But hey, I code in ASP.NET. CoX.Code isn't my language so maybe it's not that easy, but I suspect it wouldn't require near the developement time you are suggesting.

Excuse me, but asp.net is not how the game's made. Standard code rant applies: you do not know how "easy" it is. We've been TOLD that it'd be impossible to maintain a separate database for a server that's "different" from all the others. It'd basically be a WHOLE different game.

That's why they can never merge the EU and NA servers - because they DO have to maintain an entirely different "game" on the EU servers (the language issues alone have caused most of that, I suspect).

It is neither worth their time, nor a good idea in the first place, to have ANY amount of world-wide pvp available. Plain and simple, NO.

I think it would be possible in a limited system... and yes... it would probably work much like WOW does.

BUT... this would be a huge amound of coding. It would involve tweaking and changing the engine and its interface. Therefore it will NOT be done very soon. And IF it is done that will become a whole issue on itself.

Let us just wait and see. It has been on the wanted list for ages. And the devs know about it for just as long.
Actually it was never, ever declared impossible by any redname. In fact, they said it could be done. I personally suspect with less effort than went into the power customization process.

HOWEVER, as I said before, they've directly said "we will not do this" because they don't want it to become City of Jetbikes. Pretty plain and simple: they do not WANT to do it. Just because a couple players (and certainly no majority, extrapolated by the lengthy and quantitative arguments against it, and the few successful retorts by those who DO want it) would like something, doesn't make it worth any dev's time.

And if they simply don't WANT to put it in the game because they don't feel the game would benefit in any way (which they do, and it wouldn't) then it's time to just accept that and move on. If you want to play a racing game, play something else online. this one won't be it.
  7. Yeah since I couldn't then respec any of my many, many characters out of their current rewards - no. Not really fair since many of us *start* the game with a new toon carrying all those rewards already.

More options would be nice, but maybe not at those levels. I'd actually be all for replacing or enhancing one of the "respec only" or "grats you get a free costume token only" levels with something, but still - anyone who'se CHOSEN that months' worth will not get anything new.

Or maybe, just play a Gladiator match in the arena.

Well you CAN check if they've got any bonuses, but if they're slotted like my first 50, and are on an older toon, they might not have many if any IOs showing but packed with Hamis instead.

But yeah it's pretty obvious they bought the account or were someone just playing someone else's. Maybe we need thumbprint authorization for account access...
  10. I got 60 the first week of July too.

Thing to remember too though, is that this game has a staggering number of long-term vets. Plus, the time frame that they're using (at least, the way I'm seeing it) is that *current* 60s - at that time, when Beta is going up - will be more numerous because it's a few months from now.

Myself I would LOVE to see the actual numbers of folks subbed, how long, when they took breaks. I'm a fiend for demographics like that.
  11. .... I got 1 level on another server's lowbie.

I got 3 or 4 bars on my 41. :/ I got nothin. It was too hot to play, and I still feel crappy (seeing the md next monday) but I wish that I'd been able to stay on protector and do a couple tf's or whatnot. Instead, I soloed a bit of Indigo, and did other stuff. meh.
  12. They're also there to prevent theft. Swiping a tiny card on a hook is very easy - pocketing a product even a little larger takes more effort and time. I know that's why a lot of stores put things that are already IN boxes, in even bigger boxes. I think they had to open about a dozen of those time cards I had earlier, out of these large plastic cases.
  13. I like it. Don't know that they care, but I think it's a good idea. I have so dang many assorted box products from them, one day I took them all, made sure that there was nothing collectable in them, and put them in the recycle bin... There were 15+ time card boxes, and like 3 or more other product boxes... Just the cardboard parts, I reuse the disk products because I have plenty of disks, but still. Good idea.
  14. They do seem to have aggro like crazy. No matter what, if I haven't hit one of my enemies first, the first thing they do when they notice "me" is go for the pet.

Now, on one hand, good. That distracts them and cycles them through an attack they won't be able to use on ME.

On the other hand, STOP KILLIN MAH BUFF PET!
  15. *Smacks CEM with a carp*

    NO, U!
  16. Oddly enough it was Protector and Champion faltering. But yeah - the number of people is actually up, they're instanced remember, so you're still not gonna see them in a /search.
  17. Wow, then it's a good thing I had to fix dinner and started playing Half life 2 instead... o.o It was juddery before I logged off though, so I guess it hasn't been any better since

On the other hand: more people producing a heavier load = there really are way more people playing now than there were just a couple months ago. That's good. And if they do data on this kind of thing maybe we'll be in for new server hardware or upgrades of some kind. I'm sure that kind of expense is something they still have to justify to NC, but having "lots more people but look they're having a hard time playing! let's fix that" would work I think.
  18. While I understand what you're saying, there have been numerous suggestions (even recently) about this.

The issue really is balance. Even one slot extra would completely throw a wrench in the "level 50 SO-slotted" game. That's how it works, even with the presence of IOs things are still reasonable for most folks.

Adding slots, no. That would give too much imbalance potential.

Kheldians, I think though, should start out with slightly different slotting potential, overall. I do hate not having reasonable slots on everything, having to sacrifice one for another form. But - again - they're balanced to that level 50 certain number of SO's slotted.

So while I kind of like the idea, it's not practical and would seriously change the game for those who are willing to grind and get all kinds of drops/inf, versus those who don't - and IO's are meant to be optional, not required.

Anyway you cut it your always going to have clueless, pestering noobs and annoying, frustrating players. Since the implementation of AE those two things have increased dramatically anyway and original players and people in general are still here.
You just aren't understanding the fact that most people who are playing this game do not want to pvp.

Take a good look at the server populations, where people are playing, and what they're doing in those zones. You don't see the pvp or arena filled to the brim now do you?

If someone wants to gank nubs or insist on pestering someone to duel them? They can do it in a game which was built with world-wide pvp in mind. Not here.

  24. Yes, the archetypes ARE balanced. What you want is to play a superubertankmage.

The devs don't want players to do that.

    it's that simple.
  25. There should never, ever be a time when I have to decide to decline tells of any kind for an ingame play reason. Ignoring spammers is one thing, and ignoring rude players another - but having to change an option because an actual game mechanic opens me up to abuse? No thank you.

"Controlled" is for game engine only. You CANNOT control players. They WILL find a way to abuse it.

Plus: this game just does not warrant open pvp. There are NOT enough people who LIKE pvp in this game (not saying they don't enjoy it in any other setting, mind you, but for THIS game) to warrant such a dramatic change.

If you like open pvp there is a great zone for it. Go find it, see how few people are there, that's why we don't need it for the rest of the game. Like another poster said: we have arenas. Use them.
