Assassinations
This sounds both easily abused and extraordinarily annoying.

I like the idea to some extent, but not for this MMO. Now were this a Cyberpunk MMO of some sort, then we might have something to talk about.
QR: This is hysterical, and were it not for the (in my opinion) clearly vindictive bent in which it is being posted, I would be all for it. I would regularly hire assassins to go after my own character. After all, have to stay on your toes!
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.

Aside from the glaringly obvious problems with abuse this suggestion has, there's the issue that ambushes in this game are dumb, and most people outside missions are either standing in AE/WW/BM (where there's an insta-kill field), or moving too fast for the NPCs to follow. In the former case, the suggestion is free badges, especially for people running AE missions all the time. In the latter case, other people have to deal with your assassination ambushes.
It's also monstrously unfair to Mastermids, who need henchmen in order to have their full combat ability, and those henchmen don't zone with you.

I would like this but only as a NPC hiring an NPC assassin/hitman to go after a player. Like if a player does alot of missions and defeats alot of NPCs of a group in a certain period of time that group would hire assassins/hitmen to try to defeat the player. It could be the the same way as you have it set up with a sniper knocking a player hit points down and a couple of EBs finishing the player off, while the sniper is still firing after the player. My suggestion also to this is to increase the EBs argo distance to that of the sniper, so if the player goes after the sniper the EBs will follow. To have it to not have a bunch of EBs standing around, when a player get a certain distance from the EBs to drop argo, the EBs head to the closes door to signify ok they missed their target now to get out before Longbow shows up. Make the player being hit the primary target, so tanks taunting to help out will only work some of the time.
After a time of not attacking the group the assassinations/hits stop from that group. Only one assassination/hit can be made by each group. To keep the assassinations/hits coming the player would have to keep attacking the group after them. Multiple groups can hire assassins/hitmen against them but the meter would decrease fast enough that a player can only have 2, 3 at the most groups hiring assassins/hitmen to go after the player. Players can only gain assassin attempt by attacking groups withing 4 levels of the player.
If the player does defeat the assassins/hitmen they'll get a clue, a hit application thingy saying who hired the hit. After, the player can take the option of going after the employer.
Getting assassinated can still show the, "You've been assassinated" and suriving can still award the Survival Badge.
If it ain't broke set it on fire, then say it was a fault in the design.

It gives some players a chance to exact revenge on player that they don't like or can't get along with. |
Thank you for shooting down your own idea.
Freedom: Blazing Larb, Fiery Fulcrum, Sardan Reborn, Arctic-Frenzy, Wasabi Sam, Mr Smashtastic.
This. Plus it's simply not in character for COH. It's arguably more in character for COV, but still a bad idea.

And also QFT that it would be incredibly annoying.

Add a formal mechanism for players with lots of inf to grief people without even being online, or placing their account at risk (since it is "legal")?
I'll take a pass on that, thanks.
My scrapper doesn't need an AoE. She IS an AoE.
First off, cant say I like this idea.
Second...... who did what to piss this person off to cause them to come up with this idea?

Yeah, that doesn't sound like sky rocketing potential for griefing at all...

How about being able to assassinate other players. Not PvP, but a contact (say someone from the Family) where you can pay (like around 10 mil infamy or influence) to have another player killed. So when they log in and are not in a mission, a sniper shoots the player dropping hit points in half, and then an ambush of Elite Bosses show up to finish the job. If the player is defeated, a message shows up saying "You've been Assassinated". If they survived they get a badge for "Survival". If they survive multiple attempts then a number in the badge increases to show everyone that they survived the attacks on them. Then if the player wants to know who sent the assassination out after them, they can go to the contact and do a series of mission for them. After the missions are completed, the contact will give up the name of the player that sent the assassination. So the attack player can then send his/her own assassination. The assassination should be on a random counter so it can happen at any point when the player is not in a mission or building. It gives some players a chance to exact revenge on player that they don't like or can't get along with. Should be able to cross both heros and villians; meaning that a villian can place a hit on a hero and vice versa. Along with villian against villian and hero versus hero.
No debt should be acquired from death. The contact should be only accesible to lvl 50 characters and be used on lvl 50 toons to restrict abuse of a lvl 50 with millions of infamy/influence picking on a lvl 1. This would be an exciting challenge that would boad over well. Add some excite ment to the normal humbum of play.
