  1. Yay, you have soft capped defense to S/L/Energy/Negative while in hide.

And you screwed over other parts of your toon to get it. YAY!

4 slotting CJ is rather pointless.
You want to slot Indom will for defense.
Have fun spending billions of inf on the Kinetic Combat recipes for a build that is only soft capped in hide = not fighting = can have 0 defense and still live.
Are really only going to have that defense at level 50. Say goodbye to most of your defense if you do an SF or PvP in SC.
Fast Healing can do wonders for you.
Strength of Will would prolly do better than soft capped defense.
Since you have no DDR, one hit with a defense debuff will drop your defense, leading to cascading defense failure rendering your hard earned defense useless.
Stalkers have crap for HP (this is why I dislike WP on stalkers personally) This has no real value because of your build, I just had to say it =).
Frankly, I don't know what to build for WP. Could build for +rech. I normally build for +HP then defense on scraps, tanks and brutes. But HP cap can be gotten with accolades and normal IO slotting will get you enough +HP to cap.

Meh, I don't like WP on stalkers =) So I am jaded.
  2. [Integration] = Mez protection toggle.

Regen will have more redraw simply because it has more clickes.
Regen has more ability to outshine WP than the other way around. (Build for +rech)
    Claws isn't bad for stalkers.
  3. If you are on a resistance based toon, it is rather difficult to soft cap. Best to either do +HP (which on a stalker it is a trivial accomplishment) or build just for one part (S/L or Melee defense).

So let see here. Here is a build that does + Typed defense. Since it so easy to get Fire/Cold def on a res toon (3 slotted Aegis) I went typed defense. No AoE attacks on EM/ so I couldn't get enough Energy/Neg defense, but I hope that the Capped energy res will help with that.

    Just to clarify.
Midnight Grasp's base PvP damage = 138.1 (after DoT) 107.6 before DoT
Eagle's Claw base PvP damage = 149.5 (No DoT at all)

I just thought it would be more helpful if the numbers were out there =D. I personally hate those advertisements that state X is better than Y without telling me how much better it is.
  5. Oh, and if you want to PvP well, you have to Devote a build to only PvP, because there are things you have to screw yourself over with for a PvP build. KB protection for one, Lack of AoE is another.
  6. I believe Claws wins because of the shorter animation times. And follow up with scrappers helps, not completely sure about stalkers because they both have BU though.
  7. Parry and Divine Avalanche both suffer from Diminishing Returns in PvP. So the defense you get in a PvP zone is going to be very small. Add into the fact that it has to HIT before it works, AND the fact that it's animation time is so long. You are better off throwing in another attack and hoping to KILL your target than trying to boost your defense by 2%.

I'll admit, it is a good leveling tool. But once you are soft capped, it should be thrown out the window.

Kuji-in Retsu would be a good power for PvP, since it gives you Elusivity. The -Acc of Elusive defense is better than just a +defense power. It is a panic button, but on a long recharge. That's why it is to a lesser extent, its up less. Meaning if you are fighting a group in a mission that likes to debuff defense, save it for when you have no more purples.
  8. Yeah Gavin is pretty much correct.

If you get your /Nin powers slotted as well as tough and weave and put a +3% res/def IO in tough, you should be set to just pop one small purple and be able to live through anything while that purple is active.

I personally like to build my toons so that I don't need insps. But that is a personal preference. However, when some one asks for help with builds, I see their build through MY perspective. And suggest things that I would do/want.

With /nin, I suggest picking up an 'Oh Carp' power. This is because of the low DDR of /Nin (Defense Debuf Resistance). Shadow Meld, Phase Shift, Hibernate, and Kuji-in Retsu to a lesser extent (because it takes forever to recharge) are good powers to take. I would say you only need one of these powers. If you fight anything that has a sword or a gun, chances are you are going to lose defense quickly if you start to get hit. Earth Thorn Casters of the CoT are HORRIBLE because they drop Quicksand, which lowers your defense drastically.

    Comments on your build:
Don't skimp on slotting Ninja Reflexes. It helps you when you exemplar all the way to level 1. So slot it for some endurance reduction and defense.
Soft capped = 45% to melee, range and AoE. (If you turn on Stealth or Hide while looking at you defense numbers, you are looking at the wrong defensive numbers. Turn off Hide and Stealth, check the numbers they give, add them up, and subtract from 45%, that number is the number you want to build to... I.E. if Hide = 2.3% and Stealth 2.5% then they equal 4.8% Meaning you only have to build to 41.2% defense to all)

Slot Stealth for more Endurance Reduction. It can hog endurance, especially since you will want to run sprint with it one (since it slows your run speed).

Just a question: Have you used Blinding Powder? Since it is only mag 2, it will only be able to confuse minnions, and I think LTs. Don't slot it for To-Hit debuff unless you are trying to get a bonus. Most people who take BP take it to 6 slot the confuse purple set. (5% ranged defense +10% recharge and other purplie goodness). The Contagious Confuse Proc is great in this power.

Caltrops, well they aren't bad. I just don't use them very much, not helpful on teams, and since I activate powers with the numbers on the keyboard, I usually don't have a place for a power that I do not use often. It IS good if if you are PvPing another Stalker in the arena or WB.

Try to pick up Placate earlier.

No travel power. I like that for stalkers. Nothing feels Stalker-y like Ninja Run.

Parry is just a slow down to DPS to a soft capped toon. It doesn't do a lot of damage, and if you don't need the defense, its kinda worthless. It's great for Regens or Resistance based toons though.

You prolly want more KB prot than mag 4.

I think that is it =).

I can make a build up for you if you wanted something to look at.
  9. I know sometimes with my /DA toons I specifically die just to get to use Soul Transfer
  10. Nothing Needs changing.
The only thing I would say that I would like to change is the HP cap. But it is not needed. I do fine with lower HP.

I have never gotten the 'Oh great, a stalker' when I join a team. The only thing I can think of is you are playing on Freedumb, and thus get dumb people. Most of the time when I join a team on my stalker, the sentiment is 'Sweet, Pine is here'. Just one of the benefits of being on a smaller server I guess.
  11. Because your original post contained no information or questions, just a build, I am at a lost as to what kind of feedback you are asking for.

If it is for PvE, you are not soft capped.
    Melee = 45.17%
    Ranged = 38.67%
    AoE = 38.67%

If it is for PvP, focus on getting +ranged defense and forget Melee and AoE, and then +dam.

Also, why the level 40 common IOs, just get level 50's. The benefit is minimal, but when you aren't using IOs for their bonuses, getting level 50's will give a few % points more enhancement.

I don't have a Spines stalker, but I do have a Spines scrapper that I PvP with occasionally. Most of the time my attacks consist of Impale, Throw Spines or Ripper. I never get around to using Lunge/Barb Swipe because the other attacks recharge fast enough and most of my targets are not in Melee range. The reason I pick up lunge is for PvE when I need to fight bosses and Impale -> Lunge -> Ripper -> Lunge comes in handy.

    Edit:
When I first played Pine Weasle (My Spine/Regen scrapper) I did Pick up Barb Swipe. Imaple -> Barb Swipe -> Lunge -> Barb Swipe was handy. But after I got ripper, Barb Swipe fell by the way side. In PvP I always tended to die during the Animation of Barb Swipe.

    /Nin or /Nrg

Here is the current build that I am working towards. I chose level 35 IOs to avoid the level 30 crowd, and because maneuvers was at level 38. Also, I chose Smashing Haymaker's instead of Kinetic Combats to save a couple hundred Mil

And, for some reason, when I saw your question the first time. I had in mind that you wanted to PvP with it. (Must have had read another post right before wanting to know about it or something for PvP).

That said, I have an Elec/Energy stalker I am currently leveling. With the Elec's AoE + Energy's need for large groups, I thought it would work well.

    Few Notes on your Build:

    Its not soft capped.
Toggle off Hide and Stealth, then add their defense numbers together, then add them to your defense stats. You end up with hide 2.17% + stealth 2.17% = 4.34%.

    S/L = 41.9% + 4.34% = 46.24% . Yay soft capped S/L defense
    Fire/Cold = 38.8% + 4.34% = 43.13% awww darn =(
    Energy = 46.7% + 4.34% = more than plenty
Negative = 36.6% + 4.34 = 40.94% close. Negative defense will be the hardest one to get, cause it starts the lowest.

    Pointers:
Don't use sets that give positional defense if there is one that gives typed defense instead.
You are almost there, try tweaking your build a little (Build with Hide and Stealth off and just build to 41% or higher)
Scirocco's Dirvish gives Psi defense on the 6th slot.

Edit: After fiddling around in mids, I was wondering how in the world you got your psi defense up so high. =)
You had Elusive Mind toggled on in the Accolades tab.

Should still be doable on SOs

    /Nin or /Nrg

    Not Easily, no.

Edit: Plus, Player's base To-Hit is 75% not 50% if I am not mistaken. And they have +Acc bonuses and Tactics and other such +To Hit powers =(

    spines question

Man, have IOs really been out that long. o_o seems like just yesterday they were new and shiny.
  18. Claws = Lethal = Resisted. Short recharges, short animations, minimal endurance.
Energy = Energy + Smashing = Less resisted. Long recharges, long animations, good deal of endurance burn.

/Nin is a pretty good set, get it to 45% positional defense and you are golden. Only really played a DM/Nin, I am pretty sure the extra heal and the -to hit helps.

Regen is good. Lots of tricks up your sleeve as a regen, especially if you have phase and Shadow Meld.

WP, not used it much (Have a level 41 Nin/WP on test but.... =) I never get around to playing him).

Spines is fine. Fair AoE. The DoT and Slows are helpful.

    EM/Regen, EM/Nin and EM/WP are good.
    Claws/Regen, Claws/Nin and Claws/WP are good too.

    spines question

Sorry, was busy making monies :P

    Ok, let us see here.

Why the three slotting hurdle and CJ for jump? CJ gives crap for jump, but gives you maneuverability in the air. Put a LotG +rech in there and call it a day.

When you slot IOs, think about what bonuses you want to attain. For a Regen, +Recharge is what is gona make you unkillable. Well that and about 6 24 packs of Mountain Dew + techno music :P

An SOed regen can take Lts and Minnions. A franken slotted regen can take Lts and minnions. So your wants/needs are really easy. I have not heard about the barbswipe proc thing. However I do know how procs work, and that is not how. They roll to see if they 'proc' every activation. Toggles and Auto Powers 'activate' every 10 seconds. Clickies activate when they are clicked.

Here is a quick build I threw together that should be nice and cheap. I only included cheap sets (AFAIK)

As with all builds I post. This is by no means my attempt to post the best build. That is something you should make yourself. This is just to show a guideline of where to go. If I wanted to make a cheap IOed Spine/Regen, this is most likely the way it will turn out.
  20. Few things I will note:

    You are not soft-capped.
If you are using an IO for the enhancement value and not for the bonus value, just do a level 50.
Aid Self is a wonderful tool that will help you stay a live longer.
If you take Spirit Shark and slot it, you could do some kick ball and do OK.
Have you used Shockwave? If you have and you know you like it, take it and enjoy it. If you have not used it before, I would keep a respec handy. I found its damage subpar and its KB annoying.

Just to clue some people getting off of work. Looks like there is a Hami raid forming now. Come and join the party.

Nin gets around 30% DDR, Energy gets around 50%.

Energy's heal will only heal about 5% of your HP per target it hits. Making it really bad if you only have one target. I believe it does break hide. Energy will most likely rely on Kinetic Combats to get the SL defense up. Those are rather rare and expensive to get.

My suggestion is Nin or SR + Aid self. SR has higher base defense numbers, making it easier to get to the soft cap. It has Higher DDR and it has quickness. Nin has some fun powers, but only 30% DDR and lower defense to start out with.

There is one, the Theft of the Essence Proc in DR can make you sometimes gain endurance, instead of use endurance when you use it. =)

In a Tank, I slot it for some taunt/recharge/end/acc/and a little bit of heal. It's a great way to alpha aggro. It makes DA more fun I think.
