Claws v. Energy for my new stalker
Claws = Lethal = Resisted. Short recharges, short animations, minimal endurance.
Energy = Energy + Smashing = Less resisted. Long recharges, long animations, good deal of endurance burn.
/Nin is a pretty good set, get it to 45% positional defense and you are golden. Only really played a DM/Nin, I am pretty sure the extra heal and the -to hit helps.
Regen is good. Lots of tricks up your sleeve as a regen, especially if you have phase and Shadow Meld.
WP, not used it much (Have a level 41 Nin/WP on test but.... =) I never get around to playing him).
Spines is fine. Fair AoE. The DoT and Slows are helpful.
EM/Regen, EM/Nin and EM/WP are good.
Claws/Regen, Claws/Nin and Claws/WP are good too.
Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.
I enjoy playing in Mids. I specialize in Melee Characters, other AT's usually bore me.
Taking resists and everything into account, which puts out the higher sustained DPS?
I believe Claws wins because of the shorter animation times. And follow up with scrappers helps, not completely sure about stalkers because they both have BU though.

Claws for Stalkers actually has a shorter recharge time on Build Up (72 sec vs 90 sec) than other versions. Especially considering most of EM's damage is stuck in attacks with stupidly long animations (it was nice when ET didn't suck) I'd go with Claws.
"One day we all may see each other elsewhere. In Tyria, in Azeroth. We may pass each other and never know it. And that's sad. But if nothing else, we'll still have Rhode Island."
For PvP, I'd suggest Energy/WP or Energy/Nin, personally. I've never played either, but I've heard great things about both from friends.
Otherwise, I play a Claws/SR and I loooove the recharge times!
Unfortunately Energy's day has passed when it comes to PvP - the ET nerf more or less ruined the set's PvP capabilities on non-Stalker ATs and meant Stalkers had to rely on something else if an AS wasn't practical (i.e. moving targets, whatever else). Free base resistance for squishies heavy diminishing returns on damage bonuses past about 50% means powers like ET and TF are only going to be doing a few hundred points at most, which isn't at all worth the activation time especially on Stalkers. I'd go with DM, Claws, or Elec if you're looking for a PvP-centric primary.
Honestly the only reason I even play my EM/WP instead of my Elec/WP anymore is because the EM/WP is the only redside PvP toon I have on Virtue (for when I feel like messing with the really really bad Scrappers and Tankers there) and because sharks is stupid good (the Elec/WP has Soul Mastery).

Claws has a nice range attack that you can spam. I actually prefer Claws over EM for PvP now that ET's been nerfed and the rest of EM's powers take way too long to animate, not to mention EM is on a much longer recharge than Claws too. Yes, Claws would be more resisted but hey, it's not like I try to take on Tanks by myself all the time.
If you have good global recharge, I'm sure you can make EM useful. Even if ET and TF are nerfed, if you can repeatedly spam those 2 powers along with Bone Smasher, it's still going to do a ton of damage.
As for secondaries, I like /Regen a lot, but sometimes it's a pain in the a** just because most of Regen's powers are clickies and clicking any powers at any time means that:
1. You can't use your attacks.
2. It uses a good chunk of endurance, meaning that if you're low on endurance or if someone halted your recovery rate, you're kind of screwed for the time being.
3. It has a recharge, which means that if someone floored your recharge rate, you're kind of screwed here as well.
/WP is good as well. However, if you want some sort of heal, you would have to opt for Aid Self, which has a pretty long activation time and can be interrupted.
Electric Armor is pretty nice, with Energize, you have your heal and +regen right there. With Lightning Reflex, you have a nice +20% recharge right there as well as a slow resistance, which is GREAT GREAT GREAT for PvP. I would recommend slotting a kb resistance IO somewhere, since Grounded isn't very useful in PvP because you'll be jumping around alot.

For concept reasons, I'm thinking of rolling a stalker with one of these 2 sets.
Secondary is either going to be Ninjitsu, Regen, or Willpower. Haven't decided yet.
Is claws any good on a stalker? Is energy better?
And also randomly, how good is spines on a stalker?
And which of the 3 secondaries would go best with those primaries?
Thanks!
