Everyone always does, because it is the only relevant cap. Sure, you can put together a special team to hit the actual cap, but that is such a rare thing for people to even care about that you would need to specify that you are going for the "hard cap."
If there is a build that can hit the hard cap solo, I am not aware of it. Why would anyone EVER need to clarify that they aren't trying to hit the impossible cap? That is what I call horse caps or something.
Yes, currently, when people say cap, it generally safe to assume they mean the soft cap. But have you never seen some one say 'resistance soft cap'. This shows they do not understand the difference between a cap and a soft cap. The only way for clear and concise communication is for people to use terms correctly. As is commonly stated, when you assume, it makes an A.S.S out of U and ME.

Same with people saying 'que' instead of 'queue'. Can most people understand what they are trying to say? Probably. However the word QUEUE is not the same as the word QUE. The word Queue is in the dictionary, and is properly defined, so use it.

If the insistence of using proper words falls out of fashion, then we will all have 'gone to the Americans'. Use of the proper word in the proper place is what keeps us able to communicate succinctly. We might understand what they mean now, however if everyone stops using soft-cap, then no one will understand if they are talking about the real cap or the artificial one, (which is not always 45% mind you).
  2. Main question: How did it fail and what are you fighting?

Did you run out of endurance? Couldn't kill them before they killed you? Was to slow?

Also: Cross posting is generally frowned apon by the mods.
  3. This is what I think I will do with my DM/SD.

Note, this is also gona be a PvP build along with an AV Solo build (thats why some of the power choices might look funky)

  4. This is what it was before it was nerfed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93OJLMFmqY4

I will say there was a lot of different reviews of it. Some said, as Rylas that they were soloing +2x6 with common IOs and some of us were using IO sets and couldn't even solo +1x3 mobs.
  5. _Pine_

    Genesis?

I kinda wish that each AT had its specific Incarnate powers. I know its easier for the devs to just make 4-5 powers that everyone can use, instead of 4-5 powers for each AT (a lot of work, I know). Just kinda silly that we are all incarnates, from different back grounds, powers and choices, but we can only choose the same powers as everyone else. Like, if all NPC incarnates could only ground pound and dull pain themselves >.> would be kinda silly...
  6. Scrapper numbers base:

    Soul Mastery->In Game Links
    Moonbeam: 102.32 damage
    Dark Blast: 62.56 damage
  7. Also, if you had mobs stacked on top of each other, ET would bug for some reason and AoE them. Got extra -HP for each mob hit too. Was nifty.

Soon as we get Psi Melee....
  10. I'm waiting for Carp Melee. We have Bio Armor, why not Carp melee!
  11. Sooooo is Toxic Striker still Triumph's PERC Rep?
  12. IIRC, the best attack chain is Shriek->Scream repeat.

Seriously, though, demon/thermal is probably the best way to go. Defense does nothing in PvP, but the resists and heals are sometimes enough.
I will mirror this statement. Judgement to an MM is instant death for most cases.

I will say I have been considering a Demon/therm MM for PvP and general AV/GM soloing, just can't seem to make a build I like.

Why don't you like Cold Domination! :O
  15. Quick Commenting on the video without reading yalls posts:

This seems like a definitive proof that Power Creep is not happening in the game. Especially since things like Fire Armor, Invuln, Elec, DA, Stone, as well as Dark Melee, Fire Melee, Katana, Fire Blast, and other sets that are almost as old as this game (older than 'newer' stuff) are still considered great and even sometimes better than some of the newer stuff. (Dual Pistols, Beast Mastery and Staff Melee anyone?)

New sets have ADDed to the game without making the old stuff obsolete. In fact, besides the two level 40 trials, Eden and Sewers, and Regen I cannot think of too many things that were once really awesome to now being meh and even bad. (Titan Origin Enhancements anyone? Who wants to pay me 5 mil for mine?)

You _could_ say that IOs made SOs obsolete, but all the Free to Play people need em, as well as people who are leveling often use SOs over IOs.

Perhaps FBZ content not being done at all anymore... though, was it ever really popular?

That is my take on the fabled Power Creep. I just don't see it.
  16. _Pine_

    GM Slayer!

Illusion/Cold controller. This is not a GM, but a +4 AV for a demonstration. I went through and did all the Preatorian AVs at +4, but lost all the videos but this one

GM's aren't much harder, in fact, can be considered easier.
  17. Yeah, its just not going to happen. Most Positional set bonuses are in the sixth slot. It's just not going to happen.

To put it in perspective, you start out with 0 defense as a FA brute. Taking Stealth, Maneuvers, Combat Jumping and Weave and ED slotting them for defense, then adding Agility Core and finally the two +3% def IOs as well as the Gaussian's set bring you to: 23% def to all. (Which you need hasten irrc for your attack chain, stealth gives +3.24% which is what you will prolly drop for hasten). This means you still need 22% defense to melee and range. Most bonuses are 6 slots for 3% defense to one or the other. You would need (baring my math skills are flawed) around 16 set bonuses, 8 for melee, 8 for range (3%*8 = 24 which would give you 47%. You could possibly do 7 for each bonus and be slightly under the soft cap.) 16 bonuses with the average slot needed as being 6 = 96 slots would be needed. And 16 powers. FYI, you only have 24 powers and 67 + the initial 1 slot in each power, giving you 91 slots total. But wait, you spent 20 slots already for your defense powers + Gaussian's.

:/ anywho I digress. Its impossible.
  18. On a cheap SO build Bots/Traps MMs can be a boon in any situation.
  19. Its kinda like wishing Electric Armor looked more like swords >.> or Fire....
  20. They won't.

These looks, or no looks or no set. Those are your options.
  21. Stone Melee is almost solely Single Target, where TW is almost soley AoE. So you are going to see a major difference.

I would not worry OG with Fault. Fault is a very good power (i usually slot it for taunt instead of stun and use it as a second taunt). Fault will stun most everything. The only thing it won't stun are bosses, which Seismic Smash will hold (mag 4 hold yay! and a lot of damage).

As a DA brute, I would focus mainly on S/L and E/N defense. Some recharge is good, put the Theft of the Essence proc in Dark Regen. After getting to the soft cap on those two types, then you can work recharge, hp, recov in as well.
  22. Its instantaneous. Both in toggle on and toggle off. It stops/starts immediately
  23. _Pine_

    BS/WP build help

OK, I cannot seem to be able to get you that .1% S/L defense... however

    44.9% S/L, 45.5% E/N, 45.5% F/C defense.
6% more regen, 110 more HP giving you 3.1 more HP /second.

Gotcha 15% more global accuracy, 5% more recharge, and even some slow resistance . And your attacks are all better slotted for recharge and stuffz.

All at the cost of lower recovery sorry buddy.
