  1. a few things,
-I got the strong impression that the Doctor knew this was going to be the Genesis of the Almost People, and he was attempting to change things here.

-Rory's reaction is a bit natural, spending 2000 yrs as a Nestine gave him a unique perspective here( I admit a few bits, I was half expecting a Nestine Hand Gun would appear).

In terms of these being Nestine, yes and no, in that yes they will fill that role in the series, however they aren't litterly Nestine.

In that case, the +60% enhancement would be reduced to 54%, which would then reduce the power to only 33.7%, and then DR would hit that to 16.7%. The difference is usually small, but it can throw numbers off if you do not know how much of the value is due to enhancements buffing a base value, since DR hits enhancements first, then the total second.

Also, those calculations were for a blaster. For a scrapper or tanker 35% (base) would be reduced to 27.5%. In general, stalkers, scrappers, brutes and tankers have weaker DR curves for damage mitigation related attributes. Squishes have steeper curves.

Now, what would it be if you had 35% defense from a couple of slotted powers, plus some set bonuses that are not enhanced. That's when it gets tricky.
I think one of my issues with DR as it effects resist/def is this,
lets take a electric armor scrapper and a SR scrapper( and lets ignore elude here), lets assume for a momment due to slotting and set bonuses, they have identical def values outside of PvP, they enter PvP. They have identical def values. The SR gets no break for the fact that a higher proportion of their def is based on actual powers rather than set bonuses. I guess what I am saying is this, having a defense power should push the point out where defense DR hits, having a resist power should push out the point where resist DR hits and so on
  3. I don't know,
Looks at the Event and Heroes before it( I didn't watch V), both series started off strong in terms of story, but as time went on, both series seemed to have gotten lost in terms of writting, and additionally wonky scheduling.

Law and Order ended I think because for a while there, there was a real over saturation of Law and Order on NBC at a time they were doing major cast changes. Law and Order LA, I just couldn't connect with for various reasons( the irony is, if NBC had worked out a deal with the Brits and aired Law and Order UK, more people might've been drawn to that).

Even looks at the Doctor Who Movie from 96, it died largely because of poor scheduling, porr marketing.

Overall, I'm watching network tv less and less these days than I was even 10 years ago, and at the same time cable tv original programs seem to be at a different level.
  4. I would be happy if an Emp conversion to either Hero or Villian merits on a 1:1 basis was allowed

I have to say, to hear the TARDIS tell the Doctor it chose him seemed rather perfect. Matt Smith really owned the role this episode.

For a stand alone episode, this one really rocked it.
I'm guessing that Rory being in one sense 2000+ old, is going to have some impact at some point, its funny in a way, he's older than the Doctor

Lets be honest here, I'd say the Doctor is more than 900 odd years old, him saying otherwise is a bit like the rest off us shaving a few years off are actual age.

After further thought i also wondered how well that would go over. And I thought of Star Trek. Like remember when those episodes would come out where they would use the old style sets from the 60s? Im thinking that tribbles DS9 Episode or that Scotty episode on TNG. Those sets though consistant with the sets used in the 60s looks really bad now. I mean those sets looked really bad just comparing them to say the consoles in the 60s space capsules really. So as an after thought I really am glad they didnt and stuck to the idea of even in time travel they stuck to the commonality of todays values of production design.
my view as well with regards to the first point, I doubt the TARDIS sets from the original run aren't around any more, or if they are, they are either in bad condition or on display somewhere, so they would've needed to rebuild them, and using the earlier set from this series was in order to keep production values down.
  8. I'll have to purchase the episode off itunes. That riddle the TARDIS told Rory towards the end about 'Finding the water at the River in the Forest', River = River Song, Forest = that library where she physically died, and is currently living in its Matrix. Meaning, we will see post-corporal River again. I also have a few theories about the House and the Timelords.
  9. currently with my limited time, I am concentrating on my Fort,
-Alpha - Currently I have a tier 3 cardiac here, the end reduc is a awesome, I did consider the damage or defense alpha enhancements, but really on my fort it was end reduc I was needing more, while the tier 4 is nice, with this alpha enhancement I haven't really been that motivated to get it to tier 4.

-Judgement-currently I have a tier 3 pyronic, I am very happy with this power, I am crafting an ionic to try out, before I make a committment of a tier 4 here

-Interface- I have a tier 4 reactive here( -25%damage resist, 75% damage proc), I have been very happy with this, the effects aren't impressive like Judgement, but you can tell a difference here.

-Lore-I have a tier 4 seers here( the one with the two damage), the Seers are the middle of the road incarnate pets, I just like having a couple mini-me's about on my fort

-Destiny- I currently have a tier 3 rebirth here. While I will take barrier on my other toons when I get around to them, this is very good for my fort. Now my fort finally has an uninterruptable heal, which like the Cardiac, maybe isn't the flashiest bit, but definitely the one rounding out my Fort the best
  10. I had tried IDF, and honestly I thought they were kind of underwealming
  11. actually there exists a way to lock a league today, simply form a league at the max count, and guess what, its locked.

DDR: 30 to 60 for NW vs 95 to Capped? for SR. (I honestly didn't realize widows got any DDR.)

Scaling Resists: None vs SR's gets scaling resists.

Hit-Points: 1450 for a Widow vs 1900 for an SR.

SL Resists: 24% for Widow Tough vs 21% for SR Tough.

Regen: 15 hp/s for Widow vs 25 hp/s for SR. (based on builds I've seen)

Team Defense: 28.5 for Widow vs 3.5 for SR.

Team Assault: 30 for Widow vs 10 for the SR.

I can see arguments for both. It's what you want. I went Melee-Fort and I've still not been pulled back in by NW nor Claws/SR. I will say, I'm most jealous of the HP and DDR. There are so many times I wish I had either or both.

PS: 180 sounds low to me. If you don't already have achilles and fury -res procs, add one or both and that should put you right in the sweet spot.
Also factor in Defense Debuff Resists, A widow has much less of it, and is more vulnerable to defense cascade failure.
Not that we have any real numbers elusivity, but an SR does seem to have more of it than a widow
  13. It isn't?? ;-), hops in my TARDIS to take a look, but wait a minute I have seemed to have misplaced it when I left it invisible
  14. Ok so far we have:
    1) A Global Enhancement Slot
    2) A slot that adds a secondary effect to your powers (*I could see them adding additional Incarnate Enhancements for this slot, that adds a chance for a specific mez type)
    3) A PBAE Buff/Heal power
    4) A Pet Power
    5) An AE damage power
So here are my guesses in no particular order,
    1) Some sort of Passive Power
    2) A PBAE Debuff Power
    3) An AE Control Power
    4) A ST attack power of some sort( with a Range and Melee branch)
    5) A second Global Enhancement Slot
  15. I have just realized something, one of my toons is now the guild leader(Overlord) of their Freedom VG, Game Amp Nation, except for 3-4 toons, I don't see any activity for 80+ days for most members, this could either mean of course their playing alts or have left the game. Hillarious.
  16. I primarly regard Hero/Villian merits as a handy way to get rares I specifically want, purple or pvp sets I personally wouldn't bother with the current requirements, I do recall they did seem to have a more reasonable merit cost in either beta or test( I don't remember which).
If your really intent on earning purple/ pvp merits that way, and have the time, run the required tip missions per day on multiple toons( that is run the 5 tip missions one toon, and then switch toons and then run 5 more tip missions on a second toon, and so on), this way you'll be earning more purples/pvp's on an account basis. Problem with this, it means you wouldn't be doing a lot else, and those missions can get pretty old after a while. Primary limit here, is much time per day you have to do this. At any rate, if you earn enough merits to purchase a purple, odds are pretty good that you will have recieved at least one purple drop getting there.

Honestly, I think purple drop rates are on the low side, don't get me wrong I like the merit thing, but..... Really I would prefer the creation of story arcs geared for incarnate toons, where the story arc reward is a random purple drop.
  17. The most hillarious kick I've seen a leader make was, was them kicking someone they invited to the league while it was forming, b/c they were in the wrong PD instance, and couldn't get there fast enough( considering they could've been anywhere, and the trial could still begin), I was scratching my head at that one( of course someone had to explain to the same leader, why we were taking time out to destroy all of the towers in Lamda when he was having a hissyfit about it)
Anyway, I regard the entire kicking thing as bad manners, not unlike those people who would build 8 man teams, and then kick everyone w/o warning so they could try 8 man instances solo before they changed the difficulty thing.

And as others have already mentioned, I think its more of people not being able to adapt to this way of doing a trial.

The timer starts, trial begins, everyone loads, and you have a team of:

    ALL Tanks.

    or all Stalkers

    or all Defenders

    with no level shifts

    I smell fail.

advice to all, peek your head in a co-op zone. If there are a bunch of people gathered, more than likely a trial is forming. Use broadcast or whatever to get invited, and run the trials.

as far as I am concerned LFG = LFD.

    question for the LFG advocates.

A leader is trying to run small, and the turnstile adds another. If everyone quits to start over, is that griefing too?
I know I have never seen a message like"looking for archtype x for trial", while i think a certian AT balance is healthy, I'm not sure at level 50 an AT balance is needed as much as it would be for level 20, especially when your talking about 16 or more toons. Although I do have one observation though
I have been on tankless leagues that managed the trials fine, in fact I didn't notice any serious problems with the circles( its possible people were getting hit with warnings, but I didn't notice), I attribute this with 16+toons spamming attacks, anyone keeping agro wasn't a serious problem as long they weren't using confront( although again its possible someone was using it, and I just didn't notice)
On a league with one tank, the tank seemed to be really challenged and frustrated, with tanks having what I would call sticky agro, they seem to generate warnings at a faster rate even w/o trying
On a league with multiple tanks, this seems to be less of a problem

Players do not pre-arrange teams because they are elitist. They do it because these events require coordination and leadership. The entire team has to be on board with the strategy or the trial is a potential wash. If random players are a potential liability to the team of course some teams will be reluctant to involve them. The badges for doing or not doing certain tasks in particular are practically guaranteed to lead to pre-forming and a resistance to random adds.

The feature we needed, but didn't get, was the ability to post "advertisements" for teams that are forming. Functionally this is almost exactly identical to spamming global and private channels except without the spamming. Another way to look at it is the reverse of the "Looking for Team" flag.
The strategy part I'd argue, after being on x number of trials many people get the idea of the script to follow, this is true more so with Lamda. I have seen BAF done a couple different ways successfully, and in that case its more about following the herd than anything else, the role of the leader at that point, is largely to point people to the script. I've never been on a trial yet, where strategy was mentioned before hand, and i have unlocked and slotted all 4 slots, and have a minimum of tier 3s in all 4 slots( and a tier 3 in alpha as well). Heck I have been on incarnate trials where the leader really didn't have to do anything, and these were pick up leagues. This isn't to say a leader isn't never needed once the trial is started, but compared to whats needed for a hami raid...

Fair enough, but why was I added? It wasted my time inside, but worse, it wasted my 15 minute "first available" wait outside.

Worse, I have to get in another queue to run again -- with no guarantee I won't accidentally be placed on someone else's private run.

I don't know the solution, but it's a problem. Clearly you need to let people tag private runs and/or let the lead refuse people without costing the randomly-queued applicants their spot in the queue. It's irritating enough the "3 min estimated" waits are really 10-15 minutes. But to waste the bigger wait for no good reason is really bad.
I actually had an experience like this myself, but the mechanics are fine,

The LFG functions for the incarnate trials are kind of misnamed, since it implies your looking for a team for the trial.
What really happens is this, when you click on that function and place yourself in the q, your qing up for the trial. Once a critical number is reached, the system gives x amount of time to join the trial, and then everybody is placed in as a league.
You can enter that Q solo
You can enter that Q as a standard 8 man team
or enter it as a premade league
If a league enters a q and enters the trial, any solo toons out there also in the q are also placed automatically in the league as well

the reason why people tend to form leagues prior to entering the Q, is that it makes it more reliable about starting a trial, ie a trial needs a min number of toons to start, and if you have a league built already, you don't have that wait time.

In other words, he was being a jerk. Technically he had no more of a right to that trial than you did, but some people are just funny like that

If your on Freedom, just head to Pocket D, it should be easy enough to get on a pick up league, and just avoid that mess( With a league either building or in between trials out on the floor, I have yet to have to wait more than minute after broadcasting that I am interested in one or the other trials)

Actually its single target attacks are much better than they used to be, it was no joke that in the old psi assault, you had a mini nuke (PSW), and Mind Probe, which was sort of ok, and psi drain, but every thing else might as well be a tier 1 power

  23. The Playstation Network will be hurt for a while, I see no reason hot it couldn't.

The SOE business..... I see sudden drop in subscription numbers( possibly to CoX's benefit), which it may not recover from as an ungoing business

I can also see a situation where, SOE and/or the Playstation Network happened to be some high grade hackers favorite playground, and they might go hunting now
