Quote:Since getting rid of fitness, I've found with decent, fairly cheap IO enhancements, that they still play pretty well without it.I'm not respeccing any of my toons.
I can count on one hand the number of toons I have on over 3 full servers that have the fitness pool, and still have fingers left over.
I'll put a single enhancement in the slots for health and stamina. And that's it.
I've never had to change my desired build to accommodate fitness and I'm not starting now...
So, I'm sort of wishing I never had taken it now. I'm finding taking all of my primary and secondary powers to be pretty fun. There are are a lot of little powers I never felt were worth it before, which in fact, were worth a try. -
If players really want weather effects, they can always roll a storm defender.
-
I've already respecced fitness out of all my characters. I started soon after I heard it was going to be inherent, finished up last Sunday. I wanted to use up my old freespecs so I can have another with I19.
Sort of got rushed when I thought I19 was coming out last Tuesday, so I need to go back and fix a bunch of power trays.
So, to answer the question, no. -
I don't care about the weather. I don't even notice if it is day or night in Paragon City.
And I would really hate for weather to affect my powers. -
Quote:You already run faster and jump higher than normal humans. Run speed is 27 mph sustained for hours without fatigue. You can jump over a car. Swift and hurdle will just make you more faster and higher than normal humansAs I was reading the opening post, I kept waiting for that to be said.
Personally, I see no real issues with this. I have had 2 slightly doom-ish thoughts, though... First, I'm one of those who has made a few "normal" human characters, without any travel pools and Fitness will now have me running faster and jumping higher than normal humans, whether I like it or not. I also dread doing cave missions with Swift and any other permanent speed bonuses (either from IO sets, or whatever) making me bounce off the walls more than I do already. Or maybe escorting characters out of missions and having them lose me even more often than they do now. Overall, though, I can live with it and even enjoy it on most characters.
The other, more doomy thought that I have had is "OMG, they're giving us all the things we have asked for! It must be because these are the final days of the game! NOoooooooo!" -
Quote:Level one Hulk had super leap, why shouldn't I?Well, maybe this is just me and everybody else is just all woot and yeay everything they get something to add to their well rounded character, but I am worried about the recent trend of giving everyone everything recently.
Like, some years ago, there were some heroes (/villains) that chose a fly power and could fly. And felt great. And those who didn't had to jumppack and wait for 6 minutes, or hold on tho their slow jetpack until it wore off.
And some chose the power to teleport to a place on the map and it was epic.
And some chose Hurdle and others chose Swift even if they both wanted Health or Stamina.
And some chose Combat Jumping and felt distinct because not everyone had a power pool choice to spend for that and not everyone had Hurdle or Super Jump.
And some very select few even chose to make a non-super hero, that was very normal in the means of travel.
So many things you chose right then made a huge difference.
Yet now, ever more changes, often labelled 'quality of life', come up that give characters something that once set the characters apart. Like,
- Everyone can fly now. (Jump packs for unlimited sale, fly speed enhanced.)
- Everyone can teleport now with teleport powers to anything you'd ever want to teleport to.
- Everyone gets super fast movement and super high jumpability now with inherent Fitness pool. Even those who never wanted it.
- Everyone gets super Regeneration and super Endurance now, there's not even an option any more to take something else instead.
- Everyone that took the Fitness pool before now can choose one of the power pools and three of the few powers he had to opt out of before, meaning everyone is closer to being able to take every power they find interesting.
But when everybody can do and have everything, wont the game be super dull and boring?
(And when everybody has hundreds of powers from this and that and innate and accolades and temps and dayjob temps and event temps and superdupersystem temps wont they become meaningless because you cant remember them all anyway?)
Will there still be a distinct feel to each character and will there be room for an exciting game experience?
Level one Thor had flight, why shouldn't I?
Level one Quicksilver had super speed, why shouldn't I?
I've never accepted the reasoning that we should have to wait for level 14 to pick a travel power. Nor that a travel power should have a prerequisite so it takes two power picks to get one travel power.
While this game offers a lot of customization, none of us are unique or special. There is no harm done if everyone can fly, whether from the Flight pool or from temporary jet packs.
And you are exaggerating a bit.
And frankly, most of my characters ditch the temp travel powers for the concept driven travel pools as soon as possible. Exceptions are natural or tech characters for whom the concept is an artificial mode of flight.
So my answer to your question is yes, it would be a good idea. If they did it. Which they haven't. No one given everything. -
Quote:Everyone likes to feel unique and special. Portal Corp is no exception.Well, Portal Corp. claims that we are 'Primal Earth' because as far as they can tell, our universe is a nexus of connections between alternate universes. So, for example, while the Rikti can travel between dimensions (eg, to attack us), the number of dimensions they can reach from their home dimension is a fraction of the number of dimensions we can reach from Primal Earth.
That doesn't answer the question of whether Statesman is an aberration or the other versions are, but it does single our dimension out from the rest. -
Quote:What kind of arrogance does it take to make a statement like this?Ah, I missed the special arrogance of the CoH forumites when I was on my break from the game.
I never did anything to you, why do you say such things about me?
You didn't? You were talking about someone else? You sure about that? I'm posting on the forum, therefore I'm a forumite, aren't I? Therefore you called me arrogant. What did I say to deserve that?
Are you better than me? Are you smarter? Are you humbler? Are you nicer? Do you know anything about me? Why do you insult me? Will you apologize? Will you admit you were wrong about me?
Have you a mirror? Can you use it? Do you understand the message I'm trying to convey? -
I really like the AE stuff. I would probably play it more, except for two problems:
Finding a good arc to play. Either I'm really terrible at searching for the things that I like to play, or there is something wrong with the search system.
The custom critters are really hard on my lower level or squishier characters. They frequently have defenses that are hard overcome with TO enhancements slotted, and they frequently have more mez effects than the normal crittters. I dislike being pushed into using higher level melee types to compensate.
I would hate to see it go away. I would rather see it improved.
As for AE farms, I've never seen the developers come out against farming. I've only seen them speak against what they consider exploits where the rewards were unbalanced against risk. There are story arcs on the AE that have 'farm' in their title that have been there for a while. They haven't removed those.
Powerleveling has been a part of the game for a long time, and again, I've never seen anything from Paragon Studios forbidding it. I used to start getting /tells asking me to 'bridge' as soon as I had a character hit 45. They added super side kicking which eliminated the need for a 'bridge' character. I believe they only concern themselves with exploits.
Finally, I don't care what anyone else does, as long as they aren't trying to do it to me. They paid their fees, they can have fun their way if they want to. As long as they don't break the rules, and that is up to NCSoft and Paragon Studios to deal with. I don't pay my fee to try and interpret or enforce their rules.
So what exactly is the problem here? -
The thing about rules is...
...if you are going to break them...
...break them good and hard!
(Apologies to Terry Pratchett.) -

Since you have a sword and not claws, you are a man and not a beast. Or at least a half man/half beast. I would lose the beast legs and give him some pants and boots.
The chains across the chest give the impression of strength and power. The cape hides all that. Lose the cape and replace it with the gladiator shoulderpad. Or maybe a half cape. Or both.
He was once a legendary swordsman, but he was cursed and transformed into a beast, forcing him to live a half life in the shadows. Now he seeks vengeance against the person who cursed him. He will destroy anyone who gets in his way.
At least that's the impression I get from looking at the picture. -
6-1/2 years, minus 9 months.
I enjoy playing still.
I like flying.
I like teleporting.
I like superleaping.
I like instanced missions.
I like being more powerful than a room full of bad guys. As opposed to feeling weak fighting just one monster.
I like trying out player made content. There are some great story tellers here.
I like the fact that I can customize my character's appearance. I especially appreciate that the character's appearance doesn't depend on expensive hard to get gear. I don't much care for how gear is used as status symbols in other games.
I like how such gear that the game does provide, inventions, is never outleveled, nor wears out, nor requires maintenance, nor breaks.
I like how inventions are optional, my old characters with SO's still work fine.
I like how I can build an origin story for my character that is somewhat more involved than "Krog, son of Grog, warrior of the kingdom of Thane".
I like how I can make up to 40 alts per server, on up to 11 servers. More than I will ever need, rather than less than I could ever want.
I could go on... -
If I recall correctly, HEATs don't get the epic power pools.
If I take a HEAT over to being a villain, can he unlock Patron Power Pools by doing a patron arc? -
It ought to be really easy to create alternate animations for dual pistols where the character just draws the pistols, aims and shoots. But if they do that I think people are going to just complain that they take too long aiming, since the alternate animations would have to run the same length of time as the originals.
I kind of suspect however, that even without the flashy moves, that any real cop who tried to aim two pistols at once would be laughed off the firing practice range. -
Wow, with so many of you afraid of what your characters would do to you if they knew that you are responsible, I think we have a serious case of creative abuse going.
On behalf of the afflicted toons, I've hired Chris Jenkins, Attorney at Law to file a class action suit aiming to improve working conditions for all toons everywhere.
And we are going to organize a union, and get some collective bargaining going too!

Since GR/I18 came with freespecs, I've been respeccing my characters out of fitness already. About a half dozen done so far. None of my Praetorians yet of course, no freespecs for them. I figure, why wait?
It slows the pace of things a bit, but frankenslotting IOs makes it work for me. Frankly I miss Swift and Hurdle more than Health and Stamina. I play at my own pace anyhow.
I'm more excited now about the train/ferry upgrades than the inherent fitness. -
By a strange coincidence, all of my characters are irresistibly attracted to me.
-
Nope.
Given that I lost interest in my few level 50's as soon as they got to 50, I will be surprised if ever achieve the incarnate slot. Maybe this time it will be different.
Even if I do get incarnate status, I don't feel any sense of identity with a supernatural deity.
Kind of liked the Wheel of Gods Roulette game idea though. -

No, I hate having all the details filled in for me. I prefer some room for imagination.
I used to love reading science fiction, but I can't stand most of it now. Maybe it is my bad luck, but it seems that the writers want to write details instead a story.
One book I bought this year that had good reviews spent over half the pages giving me extremely detailed backgrounds on all the characters. I wanted to write the author a letter and tell him this: "I don't care."
Picked up some of my old science fiction that was written back in the days before word processor software. One third the pages, and three times the story.
As relates to this game, I have never bothered to seek out the backgrounds of title NPCs or enemy groups. What I know about the Council or the Devouring Earth is what I read doing their missions. I still don't know anything about The Center, other than he is the boss of the Council and of Requiem. All I know about Requiem came from the "Path of the Dark" story arc. And the souvenir from the Ubelmann arc.
Very slight spoiler -
Long ago, I was playing a Lost mission at level 29, with the difficulty cranked up a bit so that all my enemies were level 30-31 instead of 29-30. I was really surprised to see that all my 'Lost' enemies were really Rikti. A light dawned, I had wondered what they were mutating into.
For me, not knowing, but wondering, imagining, and discovering for myself is much more fun than being told.
I remember an old 'The Tick' cartoon, where the little sister of an evil kid genius begged her brother to "please stop 'splaining things!" I'm with her. -
Quote:I don't like your idea either, and I don't play defenders much. I have a total of 3 that made it to 20. I prefer blasters and tanks.MemphisBill keyed me into what I'm arguing against. It's Defender drama. I truly didn't understand what you folks were talking about before he made that comment about healers. And while I've never understood healer drama either (I spent years arguing against the myth of the kicked non-healer), I understand enough now to know that I need to get out of the way!
So I will flee the field of battle today, you guys win!
If you want a choice between playing knockback or not, choose between playing an energy blaster or a fire blaster. Choice is present now. Doesn't require coding, doesn't require developer intervention, doesn't upset any apple carts.
If the developers want to give out a choice between knockback or not, within a single power set, they should create a new power set with that choice built in. It wouldn't upset any existing players, since it would be new.
I don't see why it matters or not if Energy Blast or Peacebringers are not as popular as Fire Blast or Warshadess. Can you explain why it is important to have more of them? -
Quote:If you don't like the KB in Energy Blast, or Peacebringers, pick another powerset or archetype. No it is not, it is about limiting players. Scatter weakens groups by lowering damage, and if uncontrolled can lead to trouble. Saying other shouldn't be as lazy and deal with it, is like saying energy blasters should not blast more then once every 5-10 seconds. Either way effects the fun of others.
If you don't like grouping with people who use these powers, group with someone else.
Energy Blast has worked like it does for the last 6 years. There is no need to change it, there are other options. Changing an existing powerset should only happen if there is a clear imbalance that needs to be corrected. That isn't present here.
Bad or inexperienced players will be bad or inexperienced with any powerset or archetype.
And in any group game, people affect the fun of other people. That isn't an unfortunate side effect, it is inherent in any social activity. There is nothing special about knockback. You have to find people to play with who are compatible with you. -
I19 won't be live until 10,000 Party Packs have been purchased from the NCSoft store. So pony up and party!
-
Giving players the means to change knockback to knockdown changes nothing.
Players who do not like to use knockback themselves simply pick another powerset now and happily play the game. Exceptions are people who want the developers to rewrite the game to cater to their personal preferences, and such people are never satisfied.
Players who do not like other people enjoying their knockback powers will still be unhappy that other people have the choice of using knockback instead of knockdown. Such people will insist that other players change their choice to knockdown. This will lead to the same kind of friction that we see now, just shifted to a slightly different argument.
So what is solved by making the effort of coding in the choice?
