On a side note my wifes mom who's a head Nurse in Philly wanted to come stay with us on the FL W/C this weekend so she could volunteer to clean oil soaked animals, but she was told she's not qualified.. meanwhile sex offenders and wanted criminals have been included in the "qualified" groups and subsequently have led to many arrests, often with offers just walking onto the beach where they're working and taking them away.

I've been begrudgingly surprised to see through my wifes time on Freedumb how inaccurate my opinion of it has been as a server filled mostly with pvp/pl'ing juveniles.
It's actually as overtly friendly as this server was in the old days with abundant teaming and so far none of the control of the servers activity issues or related drama that's brought various mods to Champion the last few years.
So I can see why someone would move their characters around especially during a free period, but personally moving toons isn't my thing, I'll stay with a sinking ship if that's what it becomes. -

Poor redside, aside from SFs and nostalgia, its pretty much going to be a graveyard six months to a year after the badgers get done with it.
Fire/Dark Corruptors are the AoE finger of God.
As for your other point, yeah Red side will be (more) of a ghost town then it already is, Ultramode is wasted on all it's dull drab maps, the markets will be merged, and with less content to begin with it's easy to see players pulling their toons out. -

I've made the point since GR was revealed that while people insinuate that Brutes will 'replace' Tanks once the cross over is opened up, really it's Scrappers that will be directly challenged by the basic concept of the AT, high damage/moderate survivability.
As to OPs question, I would go with a Tank given your choice, you can definitely use a more survivable AT when Fire is your armor. -

Nah, adjustments are a perpetual ballet in an mmo, besides, who knows what Castle has up his sleeve for GR.
The only character I plan on changing sides is my Stone/Stone Brute to blue, because it's the closest that AT comes to being a Tanker.
Now to figure out how to team with my wife when GR is out while she's on Freedumb 99% of the time and I refuse to move. I smell domestic disturbance. ;] -

I used to have a single taunt/range IO in Taunt when I tanked hami on some of the daily raids on Champion, but if you can fit two slots for added range you'll pull the aoe untyped blast further away from the strike teams.
Btw, I tanked hami (& Recluse) on a 'weak' Fire tank.
