Tanker or Scrapper?

Thinking about making a Fiery Aura/Fiery Melee Tank

but I see I can do a Fiery Melee/Fiery Aura Scrapper.

Other then the differences in Inherrent powers what are the pro/cons of choosing one over the other?

Tanker takes more damage and has better AoE, Scrapper does more damage and has better single-target.

Tanker takes a bit longer to dish out the damage, but he can stand it longer. Scrapper dishes the damage faster, which is good, because he can't stand it for as long.

Pretty simple really, it depends on if you want to tank or deal damage. Having a Fire/Fire Tank at 50 myself, I can say that the damage is not that bad at all because of the 2x Build Up.

However, Fiery Melee for Tanks differs from that of Fiery Melee for Scrappers. As Fireheart mentioned, Tanks get an extra AoE while Scrappers get an extra single-target power.

Personally, I like the Tanker's version better just because all of the AoE means a lot of aggro and it'd be more difficult for a Scrapper to survive all that aggro...considering the fact that Fiery Armor is weaker for Scrappers than they are for Tankers...and you get a smaller health pool to work with as a Scrapper.

If you want to be a damage dealer first and foremost then you certainly want a scrapper; scrappers will always outdamage tanks by a pretty substantial margin.

Be aware though that Fire Armor is pretty squishy out of the box for both tanks and scrappers; it can be made to perform well but it takes some effort in build, playstyle and IO bonuses. It also lacks any knockback protection so you'll be dependent on either IO bonuses or Acrobatics.

First thanks for the responses.

But I'm going to come out and say that I think my question was pretty stupid if you know anything about tanks and scrappers the differences are kinda obvious.

I guess more then anything (and I should have said it in the OP) I wanted to get a feel for those who tried it and what they liked and didn't liked.

As for myself I went the Tanker route and I'm having a lot of fun with it, which in the end is only important thing when it comes to this game.

Thank you to all!

I do play both a Fire/Fire tanker and a Fire/Fire Scrapper. As each one of them goes within their AT they're both nice to play. With both but with perhaps less so of an issue for the scrapper the KB hole is something to get rid off, but its a problem that is shared with Dark but I'd say that as a hole it is worse for a Dark.

If your asking for both high damage and being able to stand around for a
little longer than a Scrapper would normaly do, I recomend getting abrute
and turning it to the Hero side when City of Rouges(sp) come sout fully.

Wait for Going Rogue and try out a Brute instead.

Best of both worlds you think?

A Brute would have higher HP and would be able to cap out Fire Resistance at 90% on its own. It would be slightly less survivable than a tank but more so than a Scrapper. It might be a good idea.

However, keep in mind that Brutes rely on the Fury mechanic for most of their damage. Usually its not a big deal, but depending on personal preference, a lot of people prefer the consistent damage abilities of a tank or scrapper over having to constantly push ahead and dive into battles to keep up the damage. If you're fine with that, then I would recommend trying out a Brute and seeing how that works out.

I've made the point since GR was revealed that while people insinuate that Brutes will 'replace' Tanks once the cross over is opened up, really it's Scrappers that will be directly challenged by the basic concept of the AT, high damage/moderate survivability.

As to OPs question, I would go with a Tank given your choice, you can definitely use a more survivable AT when Fire is your armor.

Here's some thing to consider having both a Brute as well as a Tank for
your mission, now I don't know about you but that is quite a scary and
knee trembling thought having two giants pounding the crap out of the
boss.

One just sucking up all the Boss can throw while the other is hitting harder
and harder as their bar starts to increase I have seen it first hand in
the War Zone and each time found mys elf dreaming about having the
option for this, a dream soon to come true muwahahaha!

Don't know about any one else but I Intend to bring a tank over to
theVillians side and a Brute over to the Heroes Side.
