"... in groups" (so they're buffbots,) or
"... with other VEATs" (again... buffbots,) or
    "... when I IO'd them out for capped X Y Z" (yay you?)

My reaction playing them has generally been - and I believe I mentioned this before - "Why didn't I just roll another stalker?" Doing that and taking leadership nets the *same thing* for all intents and purposes without a crap "storyline" that the dev team should be ashamed of. Except, of course, you get better stealth. And an early placate. And more options. And you don't have to re-figure your build at 24 (twice, if you decide to try a dual build.)

I don't find them powerful, I don't find them enjoyable, I don't find them "well made" ("tight, uncompromising build," perhaps) and I don't find them *fun.*
His opinions. Emphasis mine. His expectations and why he found them dissapointing.
    He doesn't find them fun.
    I rest my point.
  2. You two, seriously, take it to PMs or something? This is niether one thing nor the other. Bill, as far as I can see, was simply stating (perhaps in more words) that he, personally and in HIS opinion, didn't like VEATs.
I don't see any quote where he was actively saying 'VEATs suck and should be changed because I dont like them'. He said 'I haven't enjoyed them, ergo I'll leave them alone.'

I'd rather save slotting to put into the forms, Xen. With that last build, I had enough attacks and enough slotting in each form to feel comfortable, without compromising on something like Photon Seekers.
Plus, I just hate the recharge on them

And yeah, I'll probably end up dual-building.
  4. Off-topic, but out of curiousity:
You can use Howling Twightlight for the stun component without using it to rez..?
Thats...purdy damn neat, actually, if true.

As for the unicorn form, Charlie the Unicorn is the perfect model, so there's half the work done already.)

Of course even if those had been available when I was leveling my WS I'd probably still have gone with human form because even when using no alternate forms the feelings of fail were so minimal as to be virtually nonexistent. As for PBs, however... I got mine to 12 and rerolled him as a FF/Energy defender.

Kheldians have to work for their Epic, VEATs just... stand there. In my opinion, that's very appropriate thematically.
Just stand there and watch things fall over

I don't care if your VEAT can solo +4/x8 missions, if you're going to be a jerk as well then your presence is not wanted.
T'be fair, thats a player fault and not an AT fault.
Some people are just jerks. I've run into my (un)fair share of jerk Kheld players, same as any other type of AT. Certain players just get a god complex, whatever AT they are on.
Besides, if a VEAT could solo +4/x8, I'd want to know how

Etiquette Tip: Just because you're playing an Epic Archetype doesn't mean that you get to call the shots and can ignore the team leader. There are way too many n00bs out there with these characters who don't actually know how to play the game yet think that they are experts.
Hell, I've had a lvl 50 hero for over a year or so, and I STILL find it hard to play HEATs right!

But yes, sadly and seriously it is true. Saying 'I have x many 50s' is no real indication of gamer skill. And I really, really dislike people who use 'I'm an x month veteran' to try and add weight to their arguments.
Hint: It doesn't. It really reall doesn't.
  12. Try just the rifle, Bill.
Arachnos Rifle + Bane armour is rather fun solo. I found the first time with a SoA hard, due to obvious ignorance. The second time was very fun.

The main combo is Wide Area Web nade + Venom Nade + Heavy burst with a + Frag grenade optional. That tends to make a very nice mess of anything around.
When you couple that with hide, armour and self buffing...it gets good =] you dont have to go for Crab and Bane, the Huntsman path is just as viable, if not more so.

We don't talk about the PPD Glue gun! Or Flashbangs!

I hate them. I really, really hate the glue guns. Locational AoE my skitt plate...
And CoT Ghosts! Asrghargarharg...was facing them on a team with my PB just now. God I hate them things. Good thing I picked up Dwarf Form the mission before. Trod all over them in the end.
  14. I...heh...I take it back. Most of it.
I got the gal to 20 with a PuG tonight.

My god, the dual build feature is so useful. Nova, Dwarf form...shifting between them two is good fun.
I think the new build I had planned can definitely go ahead. Fun times are here!

As for VEATs, GP, the glory comes when teamed with other VEATs. They can be very fun solo, with lots of AoEs on Crabs, hittiness on Banes and Widows, and shielded controlling on Fortunatas. But the true glory comes about with 2+ VEATs. Multi stacked buffs makes them night unkillable, and the various attacks and debuffs they can bring to bear is nothing short of...well..Epic

I think with PBs certainly, it would be nice if they merged the shields, down to two. You already get passive resistance in the 1st secondary power, why not scrap the second enrg/neg shield and instead give a bonus to the S/L shield that evens out the numbers? Then have the fire/cold shield and add resDebuff or something part to it.
Up the basic accuracy of Pulsar. Far too low atm. And then add something else to fill for the merged shield.
  15. Do want.
I like it. I like it a lot.
    Nice one, Doc.

Some stun, sleep, or hold-protection IOs to go with the KB IOs would be very nice, especially villainside where probably 25% or more of the story-arc content involves running against Longbow, who, starting around level 30, commonly have two or more mezzers per spawn, even on low difficulty (Nullifiers and Spec Ops).

My character with a small amount mez-protection (/Traps MM) treats Longbow no different from any other group; they're no more or less annoying than anything else. My character with no mez-protection (/Dark MM) treats Longbow as a huge annoyance I have to muddle through to get content done (Patron Arcs being a huge example here), and even though she carries around multiple break-frees all the time, sometimes they're not enough, and sometimes I don't have enough of them to last through a mission.

There's something wrong with mez when specific enemy groups - including one that features in a huge portion of redside content - drastically change the perceived powerlevel of a character. I'm comparing apples to apples here; against groups without a lot of mez, both my MMs feel about the same in power. Against groups with a healthy supply of mez, suddenly the /Traps MM feels a heck of a lot more powerful than the /Dark. A difference of powersets should not make that big of a difference. There is something wrong with this system.
What primaries have you taken? And what difficulty settings? Because if you really struggle that bad against bows, your doing something wrong.
<--- this guy is perfectly capable of taking bows to the cleaners and back (Bots/Traps) and this was before 50. Nowadays he just steamrollers absoblutley loomin everything. Wether it wants to be or not
  18. Yet everyone's 'god' stories come from Warshades. PBs always get left in the dirt.
Pretty poor showing for an 'Epic' AT. It does say Epic, after all. Not 'Challenge', or 'Oh god that hurt' ATs. Epic.

I hate to dredge it out again, but yes, VEATs do feel like Epic ATs. Even the people who find them boring also mention they still hit hard.

OT, posted in the Kheld forums. Got a grand total of one reply, so far =S I don't think this gal is going anywhere fast...
  19. Sam, this is GG. It's her thing.

GG, dear, seriously. It gets old when you trump it out EVERY time some poor chap has to settle for using s/he.
Given the majority of game players (at least here) are male, its not really a 50%-50% chance of getting it right.

And this is coming from a guy who know a goodly number of female players
It just really isn't such a huge issue, m'kay?
  20. Hover is a great power for Blasters in that it lets you, literally, hover over your opponents heads while raining mass death on them. Fly, as mentioned, is a lot more 'From A to B' than Super jump in certain cases. And its incredibly safe.

Air Superiority is superior to Jump Kick in both ways; It animates faster and has a better % chance for Knockdown.

    No translation needed.

Translation: Sometimes a Khel can outshine a player of a regular AT, but please keep in mind that there are bad builds and bad players out there.

Translation: Due to the klunky design, long shift animations and poor to situationally decent DPS, Khels are at a disadvantage at the get go.

The devs made VEATs after learning from all the mistakes they made making HEATs. They realized that the majority of the playerbase didn't want Epic to mean Annoying and Situational.

There are days I really enjoy my warshade. After stygian circle (quite possibly the best power in the entire game) a warshade can be fun. There's even a video out there of a human/dwarf 'shade succeeding at the RWZ challenge by leaning heavily on eclipse and dwarf.

I have yet to see a PB do it. I hope one day PBs are brought up to so that they can at least do what WSs can do: Have the *potential* to be powerful.
    -Nods-
All sounds about right to me.
Sure as heck is accurate when it comes to teaming. Or rather, lack of. Why pick a Kheld, when you can get something better? Playing EU side, and at somewhat quirky times nowadays (Damn you to hell and back, Uni network Proxy!) finding a team is like gold dust. Maybe I'm just damned unlucky.

That, and I don't have any rich 50s to make sure my gal is slotted up to optimum levels. So, I'm in for the long haul it seems =S

Yes KB has it's place and it can be used constuctively, but it can also be a nusance. Simply because you are happy with it doesn't mean everyone is and doesn't mean you are right to dismiss the idea.

The problem with that is that then everyone who nitpicks about how 'bad' KB is will never ever even consider people with KB in the teams, even those who can play it well.
"I can't help powers doing KB!"
"Yes you can, there are IOs that do -KB! Go buy them! SuXX0r!"

And yes, that is about the level of rationality I would expect, at least on the majority of PuGs I've been on where KB has been transformed into some giant issue.
It's really not. And giving people the means will just lead to less tolerance.
