Also, it might be worth pitting like against like - it may make it slightly easier to explain away those differences if your characters are evenly-matched (not necessarily level but in combat abilities both IC, IG and OOC).
A defender will find it hard to defeat a Scrapper, Tank or Brute and although they might well be down against other types who do more damage, hit point wise we're talking similarities.
Is it fair to say that the majority of us will have PvE builds? Not sure but if so then the likelihood is that a lot of our characters will be in the same boat.
As for Loup's point - he has come out of retirement and is a little older than some of the younger heroes who may have developed tactics to best the 'Old Skool' way of fighting. So, if he gets beat up then it's only fair to assume that the next time he will be ready for them! (of course, next time doesn't actually have to happen - but then any other encounters can always be RPd using the experience gleaned for The Cage )
I for one am very happy to do this as a charity event and as my only real contenders are heroes then that suits me.
Arctic Princess, Raidar and Whirling Dervish are my favourite three and the most likely to be able to/want to do this. Although I warn you, Dervish is a 'mature lady' so no dirty fighting! -

One of the questions that has to be answered is why heroes aren't just required to either join the PPD or stay at home.

If we had to do the above then, arguably, there would be no City of Heroes or Villains.
Adding my two inf, I know that on occasion debate sparks interest in a variety of topics. Unfortunately or fortunately (depending on perspective) the game World is black and white in this respect: The Hero ID is the card you carry around/pin up on your wall/have as your Facebook profile picture that denotes that you have been registered as a hero.
Using fudge, or as I'm consistently starting to believe in the term as 'imagination', some vigilantes can be played as such without reference to the Hero ID, which as we all know is a handy mechanism for adding Character Information and stating Battle Cries.
If the game were indeed Real Life (tm) then the majority of heroes would probably have to have a job on the side or would be sent straight to the local mental health service office and appropriately counselled/sectioned. The others with 'normal' abilities would probably be in the armed forces/terrorising their town with guns/in the circus/working at Butlins (archers).
I have to place myself firmly in the 'fortunately this is a game' camp. The loose and vague game mechanics and in-game justifications of Registered Heroes allows me enough scope with my imagination/fudge to create a Hero as a 'straight-out-of-the-box' recruit from MAGI or whoever; a witch who has no relationship with the law but by her very acts is deemed to be heroic, although if the authorities ever found out and she was involved in an act which may endanger civilians then yadayadayada.
As for not hurting NPCS, well if you think about it then the majority of hostages and mindless runners in instanced missions should be something brown and sticky on the floor by now. But, keeping my perspective, it's not real life: they are merely represnting the idea that Paragon is populated with people. The game mechanics just don't warrant too much thinking about in terms of translating to real life.
Of course, that said, there's nothing stopping creativity within roleplay. There have been and will continue to be, I've no doubt, stories of heroes perhaps losing their nerve and frying that mugger. Heck, it could even lead to an interesting court case, RPd out by the community (imagines 'Injury Lawyers 4 U'...) but I think in those sorts of cases it's best hacked away at by a group of consenting RPers and presented as a pre-agreed rules piece of RP. I don't think this kind of thing can necessarily be sorted out 'on the hop' and SHadowe, you know full well that trying to get any sort of consensus just won't happen.
I, for one, think that's a good thing.
*looks back at the post* Perhaps not so much of my 2 inf, perhaps moreso the cost of a Purple IO? -

Hilariously:
Anything by Annie Lennox or The Eurythmics
Bjork is good for long TFs... as is Meatloaf
Size of a Cow by the Wonderstuff
and finally, Great Things by Echobelly.
*feels ancient* -
I managed to get a 'chance for stun' proc - no idea of the set without looking but it fires off quite a bit, so makes taunting EBs and Bosses (yet to fight an AV with the tank) that much easier for anyone with immob/hold etc attacks. Plus the tank is Energy Melee, so it helps build up the stun, which is always good.

Something Hates just said about Spider-Man clones rang a bell!
I have 2 current characters and 1 now-deleted one.
Henry Bansford, a.k.a. Beetle Boy - he may not have the powers of Spidey but he is an awkward teenager etc. Although I guess that's more of a character archetype.
Queen Bea - heavily borrowed from Nanny Ogg, without the sexuality of said witch.
Starlokk - basically Rogue (Southern Belle, super strength, invulnerable) - now deleted as she was dull to play.
Sorry for listing, but this topic has sparked interest for me in why I create the characters I do and also points out to me that, no matter how superbly original I consider the toons I create, they're all based on things I've read or watched. -
Okay, haven't nominated before so not sure if this is the correct way to do it - I also nominate London Ranger for his wonderful COX Promo which Tellis has so kindly posted a linky to.

Just had this thought after reading Syra's post about her worries over copyright etc:
If possible, could you design the interface to look something similar to the 'What If?' machine from Futurama please?
Actually it relates to what Crimson Archer and others said about letting the RP develop and seeing where a character who is a tribute to an existing one goes on their own.
***
On a similar-ish note, I've read posts from people saying that they'd like to create their character's backstory as a potential arc. How about a little 'What If?' collaborative effort?
For example: an arc based around "What if Miss Ellie had never bonded with a Kheldian" sort of thing? I know this is way too premature but I'm so excited.
*bursts* -
If I thought about it too much, I'd have to delete most of my characters on the grounds of being a little too close to the plagiarism line: Arctic Princess is, for all intents and purposes, remarkably similar to Black Widow.
Powered armour is obviously something that's in the collective psyche - think Aliens, and that giant construction doo-hickey. Iron Man. Man-At-Arms (okay not technically, but it's still a derivative of the powered armour hero / villain. Heck, Black Scorpion uses it so I wouldn't worry too much.
I can never remember the quote in its entirety, or indeed its source, but apparently there are only 7 stories 'out there'. Everything in between those 7 just uses bits and pieces of each other.
And on the point of having several different archetypes of the same person - in comics themselves, how many times have different characters been able to do wondrous things from issue to issue? Heroes and Villains should, in my opinion, be able to do pretty much most things that they can put their mind to and it doesn't just mean a different set of armour for a different task, a la Iron Man: Many of the in-game powersets compliment each other when creating different versions:
My new bod, Glitz, is a Peacebringer (NOT a Kheldian, but the power animations etc fit), an Illusion Controller and a Willpower/Energy tank - her powers are all based on manipulation of Light energy and those particular ATs/Powersets fit with that concept. -
For some reason, I can't get 'Hey nonny, nonny' out of my head - Could be a fun piece of music poetry if someone had a lute
Nice work, good to see different types of creative stuff going on. -

Man, I gotta get on your good side! Or absorb your brain or something.

But enough of that! - that was very good. It caught the excitement of the superhero genre and reaffirmed to me why I play this game.
Any chance of doing a fight sequence involving Arctic Princess and a villain I know called Ramguard? PM me if interested. -
FFM - have you hacked Miss Ellie and given her the Psychic Mastery Epic??
Please, please please!

hmm... I might do one for Drade's epic story, The master Gateway, that would be alot of work however..

I smell collaborative efforts! - sorry for posting so soon after the last one but I only just saw this.
I'd love to go through the origins of other characters - question is, will there be enough room on the Wiki for the inevitable updates? -
My word
*pants uncontrollably*
I guess an idea for a Sky Raider/Carnie crossover might just be possible (looks at the level caps for both groups) - but then maybe not!
Well, I think I'm going to use the basis of the 'What would your character's TF be?' thread some time ago and work from there. For AP, the theme would definitely be the war against drugs in Paragon and YES I will be putting some hunt missions in there :P
Other characters have stories which I can't possibly have time for but which have been sat on the slow-cooker at the back of my brain, bubbling away for some time now.
And heck, it'll be a chance to god-mod legitimately ! -

Shad'ower - d'you want us to give any input BEFORE the showdown or just play it by ear?
Send me a PM if you think it might get messy posting on this thread. -

Fantastic work!
I want to announce this here - I'm trying to figure out something interesting for the male version of Mynx - I have the name - please, everyone, hold off drawing him.
And yes, he will look sexy! -
Thanks for that - hmmm. I'm thinking that, as far as it goes, AP is at her best. If I want excitement with builds I think I'm going to have to concentrate on my under-50s and I may have to accept that until the 'right' team completes the STF, she'll have to make do as an influence bank for my other characters.
Cheers for the advice though. -
Hello all.
Arctic Princess is a little rusty at the minute - she can stand up to pretty much anything that the game has to offer BUT she has yet to best Recluse (although his lackeys were defeated).
Also, IO-wise, she's very dull (Melee and Defence in the main, and she really doesn't need all that immobilise reduction that a lot of sets seem to offer).
So, if anyone has some interesting ideas about powers to respec out of (at the moment I'm *gasp* thinking about removing ALL the auto-defence powers in favour of Medicine) then please list them here.
Epic-wise, I've tried Body (quite dull, but it was very handy getting me up to 50) and I am finding Dark Mastery useful against Ghost Widow as it gives me a bit of mez to work with and keeps me out of range of that blasted self-heal of hers.
So, your thoughts and suggestions are very welcome. -
The basis for the model was a guy called Alex Collack. I'll let you google him....
WARNING *Images may be unsuitable for under 18s*
Needless to say he's gorgeous -
I'd say I'm free from any time after 11am.

It's not just scantily-clad girls who populate Paragon's Alternate universe you know...
Introducing Cygnet - The Alternate version of Swan!
If anyone wants to colour it, then please feel free - I am terrible with those sorts of things -
The Hunter's Guild has a new recruit - well, sort of...
Glitz, Champion of the twelfth division of the Coven of Hecate, has seemingly 'arrived' on the scene and is willing to lend a hand.
Backstory-type info to follow... -

"though"/"tho" annoys me though
[/ QUOTE ]
The use of tho' is acceptable though - as the apostrophe denotes that part of the word is missing.
I'm a spelling nazi and I like the occasions when a person asks how to spell a word - it's the past life as a 19th century school marm I'm sure. For me, at least, it doesn't break any walls down - but then I suppose that's because I often use the (sp?) term if I am unsure of something.
Grammar is not something that we use all the time, unless we're playing someone with precise grammar and pronunciation - a lot of people use 'trash-talk' which suits their character.
'' is not a word, nor will it ever be so. /giggles, /chuckles, /guffaws, /bursts out laughing, /collapses in a heap of laughter, /winks at... don't take very long to type and can often say more than 'lol' which, as has been pointed out before by many others, is not a punctuation mark
Right, it'll take me at least half an hour to edit this post to ensure there are no glaringly obvious mistakes in it... -
Cheers Bob
I will respec out Health and just put in Swift as I do notice it when the power's not there, and no amount of IO slotting will ever make a squishy able to survive more than a few shots beyond an alpha strike.
Right, must download the Hero/Villain thingy to make sure my respeccing doesn't go in the wrong order.
At least with the extra slots from 31+ I should be in a position to slot up the biggies.
