Quote:One of my characters has two costumes at the moment. One is a combat outfit with and without a helmet, the other is a non-combat outfit with and without. That leaves space for one more costume, with no chance of a helmet or a non helmet version. Why do you need more than 5 active costume slots? If the answer is "I just want them." Why?
You can create and save as many costumes as you want and switch them in or out to any of your costume slots. While this incurs an inf cost, any inf sinks are welcome in this game.
/unsigned.
Another of my characters currently has 3 costume slots: Costume slot 1 has the Baron Jacket, Hat, and the Magic Cape. Costume two is sans hat and cape. Costume 3 is sans Baron Jacket, going down to just a shirt and waistcoat. Costume 4 will be sans waistcoat.
Costume 5 won't be shirtless, that's just inappropriate for a gentleman, but it would be nice for some other options.
The limit of this games costume engine means easily removable costume pieces such as jackets and headgear take up a costume slot. With more slots, I can have more costumes and more varients. And given some costumes haven't been updated for a long time as I like them where they are, I'm not sinking inf into them. Given some get updated regularly, such as my tech blaster's power suit, more options would let me sink more inf.
Considering some of my characters have ample supplies of vet and free costume tailor tokens, and some have the Tailor discount coupons, that's less inf or no inf being sunk there. Oh, I also have the vet badge that halves tailor fees.
Saying "Oh, you can just run to a tailors" is one of those old style MMO thoughts that quite frankly one that needs to die, like many others.
For this, my recommendation would be a costume slot at 10 and 50, in addition to the one at 1, 20, 30 and 40, plus the Halloween salvage. That's 6 available through levelling, plus one extra through salvage.
Add in 3 purchasable ones (either with a super booster or from the in game store, applying to all characters) that'd bring us up to 10 for characters.
10's a nice number. The screen holds five so far, so the UI could have a slider added to scroll along to the next five. -
Quote:DreamWeaver: For Life's Needed Anecdotes. When you've had to cut a friend out of a liquid latex outfit in a club bathroom with EMT scissors, being VERY careful not to nick anything or pull out a piercing, you realise that there needs to be a balance between sheer fabulousness and practicality.
Well, just a little bit.
PS: Oddly not as bad as the piercing/chainmail leotard/chinese ring trick interface incident.
It also shows why the Scouts are right with the 'Be Prepared' motto. I'm likely guessing that those EMT scissors weren't borrowed from the first aid kit. :>
BUt yeah, it does have useful... applications *snerk*, in say the outdoor supplies industry. I could see it being very useful with some work. -
Quote:It's come up before in a few stories, mostly NPC villains doing so, and usually the organized crime families. Human trafficing has come in stories relating to one of my characters, Fear Trigger, a Family hunting vigilante. In the first story featuring her, it involves a deal she interrupts for drugs, some black market Rikti blasters and a couple of girls to work in a brothel.I noted that the death of 1000 is too much for union roleplayers in general. Now I am uncertain if it is okay to roleplay a villain doing crime of similar level. I must ask: is it ok to roleplay a human trafficer in Union roleplay community?
At the moment human trafficing in real world Europe is a big problem. Not only because its ruthless nature, but also because the criminals organizing it get rich very fast, and that way are able to bribe politicians and reporters fairly easily. Bringing a real, topical problem into imaginary game world could be of bad taste. What do you think? Is it ok, or is it better drop the idea? -
Quote:I make do with just one, on Fault.I never thought of this. I may try that just to see what happens. Your one of the few poeple who's posts make me perk up my ears and listen.
When you hit with Fault, it does the Chance for Recharge check with every enemy hit at once, meaning in larger groups or teams, you've got a very good chance of getting the proc. I think it has an internal cooldown of 10 seconds as well, so if this is the case slotting it on multiple powers is a bit redundant, compared to say Fault and maybe Tremor. -
I've noticed an issue with pets and Bank Vault doors as well.
Unless you get them to GoTo close to the door, they'll just stand at range and use their ranged powers.
Which isn't fun when you're playing a Ninja MM. -
Quote:How about this, my good man Dante? :>I'd say more but I think I'm too annoyed at the moment to post constructively.
'Yet again, another bonus costume that most of the EU population will have little to no chance of getting, unless they happen to have a good thousand or more sitting away in the bank to make the flight and get the hotels.
Yes, there are going to be people saying that 'It's just a costume code'. And it's true, it's not the code itself that is the issue.
There is a skew towards the US server group (and the individuals that play on them, assuming they aren't EU/Oceanic/Other players there for the more server lists and higher population) when it comes to availability of bonus codes, competitions and opportunity to attend conventions.
This has been especially pronounced since 2008, when the NCSoft Europe offices were gutted in the re-arrangement that followed NCSoft's rearrangement of non-Korean subsidiaries. There has been no UK or European Mainland convention presence in quite some time. However, even then, the only Dev (and now Dev) we've had grace us with their presence were the quite excellent War Witch, and David Nakayama. (Which IIRC was Brighton 2007 for War Witch, and Birmingham 2008 for WW and David N.)
If it was not for the kind individuals who attend US conventions and panels and kindly give some of their time to tweeting or otherwise reporting details from the CoH panels, we would be in a bit of a blind spot.
While server population has seemed higher since the release of Going Rogue, and there has been two contests arranged (the Design an NPC for Studio 55 in Issue 19, and the give away of Party Pack Items that still cause controversy due to pricing, value for money, and the not too irrational fear that it may lead to nickel and dime-ing, what with the effectively slim issue content now compared to issues such as RWZ/Faultline), there is still the worry that the server groups future is still in the dark, and generally neglected.
Couple this with the general quiet of any red name presence on this thread, it gives the impression of a cloud over the game and server group we've put years of money and effort into, with little to allay our fears.
Finally, I am still an advocate of virtual meet and greets. Place on the Test Server that's co-op, throw up a power suppression field and talk in ADMIN red, fielding questions from the players. I'm sure something could be arranged for translations from the French and German server players, e-mails could be sent in game to players with Costume-Codes, and I'm sure spending a couple of hours on the EU test server is much, much cheaper and less time consuming than flying out here.'
Any good? -
Quote:http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=220651Pity. Your rumination was quite eloquent. Perhaps madam would try her hand at a CoH fanfic?
CoH fiction regarding one of my characters. It's a little bloody in places. PDF's linked via posts.
(Also, check out the IC Story Thread in the Roleplaying boards, that's where a lot of fiction goes)
Ahem, sorry about that.
Improvements to Ouro, please! :< -
Quote:Nowhere, not good enough :PWhere would one be able to acquire madam's novelizations, one wonders.
I just knows what ideas I like, and more Ouro TF's would be great, same with Roman Place (with the name that always eludes me).
It's like they were just added to the game and forgotten about. -
I could see Ouroborous getting an overhaul.
Floating high above mysterious waters, twin bridges float either side of the main island. On each island is an Ouroboros portal to either the Isle or the City, along with the mender responsible for the villain/hero Ouro TF, with room for more.
In the centre island, where the current portal is, the portal shall lead to Praetoria. Flanking either side is a pair of Menders, who task heroes, of either dimension, to ensure that certain events happens in Praetoria as the Coming Storm spreads out across the multiverse. From fighting in the Hamidon Wars, to ensuring the formation of the syndicate, and so forth. Room for others by them.
The central house of Ouroboros will hold the co-op TF Menders, along with a shrine containing three pillars of Fire and Ice surrounding the main 'chunk'. One leads to Praetorian Missions, one to Hero side, and the other to Villainside.
Above and below, in the aether of time, float reflections of past, present and future lives.
And high above, on an ivory tower draped in gold and crystal, Mender Silos will sit, smile, and wait... -
IIRC, Positron was also DevPositron's old Champions PnP character.
One thing to note though is that Mary Sue traits, such as the ones espoused in those ridiculous Mary Sue Litmus testers, are not bad. When written well and setting appropriate, they can make very good characters. When not written well, and when not setting appropriate? They can make terrible characters.
Same with good character traits.
A sympathetic villain is not a sueish thing. It can be a good thing. Whether a well-intentioned extremist or someone who simply fell down the wrong path.
In this setting, it's natural to expect people to have unique, strong powers.
In comic book settings, appearance tends to alternate between handsome/beautiful, and ugly, with little in-between.
Signature characters are signature for a reason. Desdemona, Maelstrom, W.I.S.D.O.M, The Freedom Phalanx, Arachnos, so on. They get the fancy cool power sets and costumes and emotes (like Boobcat's lounging emote.) -
Quote:Staph, or Staphylococcus, the usual culprit in Staphylococcal infections is S. Aureus, bit of a nasty bug, especially in it's Incarnate form where it caps out in resistance to Methicillin. My whole high school wrestling team got staff infections one year from not keeping the mats clean. The coaches and administrators were so embarrassed they wouldn't call it staff. They used some weird super sciency term like "retroviral oncogene v-erb-B" to explain why our team had to miss the last 2 meets of the year.

Quote:Crack is whack, they say.I *dare* you to make less sense!
1. There is no secret P2P module that CoH uses except for what is known as the client-server connection. What do you think is secretly being transferred in this way, copyrighted boombox tunes?
2. You can't have an illegal copy of OpenOffice... it's free.
Go back to your ISP and let them know that they have workers smoking crack on the job.
Unlike other MMO's, City of Heroes does not use a Peer to Peer system for its updates. You're downloading from just one source, the official download server.
Now, I'm out of touch enough to not know what a Pioneer is (Some kind of video editing software?) but as ZM says rightly above me, Open Office is open source, and Kubuntu and Xubuntu are pretty much open source too. -
I find Mayhem Missions to be very fun when AoE's are being used. Enemies getting taken down, and collateral damage being caused. The sheer idea of being in a car park, SWAT officers beating down on you, and suddenly a PUNCH to the GROUND causes a huge explosion of metal and pain around you, sending police officers into the air?
Sweeet.
I also like it when you use AoE's in alleyways. If they happen to touch a garbage can or dumpster, it sends up a spew of trash.
Also, when writing CoH fiction I tend to play up what powers can do and go beyond the game engine. A kind of example would be when Storm Sapphire learned to go Dwarf form. After a giant minotaur like mutant threw a school bus at him. Caught it, carefully put it down, teleported after Bullrush and started an epic beatdown that ended in a Dwarf Form piledriver. -
Big explosions, mostly! While I like the down to earth combat sometimes, nothing gets my imagination going like giant blasts and crazy moves.
A good example in the field of heroes would be the Justice League Unlimited fight between Captain Marvel and Superman. Punching each other through buildings, throwing buses and bank vaults at each other, blows that cause shockwaves that break glass... -
Save Black Panther 952:
Stone/Stone Tanker, Level 47, +0/x1, No Bosses. Waves came extremely quickly, about 10 seconds in gap.
Rescue Crey Scientists:
Devouring Earth 'The Executioner' spawned as a boss for a +0/x0 Blaster, set to no bosses. Had Boss HP and damage. -
I'd like the emotes, but I'm not willinig to pay £5.99 for 8 emotes. I just find the other boosters better value for money. This'll be the only one I won't be buying.
I do want to support the game/devs, but I feel this is a step in the wrong direction. As a booster, I think things like the wedding/GVE/GR Complete item pack suit better.
I may buy it in future, but for now? No. Not this close to GR, not when the dances were removed from the GR beta, and not when I feel it's a step in the wrong direction for the additional purchase content they should be adding. -
Going back to the original topic a little, I'm English, and have a problem with tea.
I seem to be a heathen. :<
I've bought a pack of Twinings Tea Selection, it's got Earl Grey, Lady Grey, Ceylon, Assam and English Breakfast, but honestly?
... I'm just much preferring my Yorkshire Tea with 2 sugars and a splash of milk.
Maybe it's living in a hard water area, or just being a tea heathen, but I just can't seem to beat a Builder's Tea. -
Quote:I think Techbot means a level beyond Ultra mode. That the Ultra of Ultra Mode is not what can really be pushed from it. Think of it like... Ascended Ultra Mode. You're misremembering, my rig can play Ultra mode maxed out with decent FPS just about everywhere.
Or Incarnate Ultra Mode! -
If you have female characters? Wedding pack. The Bridal set makes great elegant clothing, I use it on my sorceress type character.
I like some of the emotes in the party pack, but...
I'd not want to buy it, y'know, just to say "Step in the wrong direction, go back 3 steps."
But PopDance :< -
That's some nice looking tech right there, and nice results too.

Hell yeah!
I've been working on and off on Unity Station, a space station built by the Unity Vigil supergroup. Included are things such as:
The Power Generator. Complete with mysterious crystals for power.
The Recreation Room! Complete with cinema, secret chill out areas, The New Vigilant's Roleplaying Game Society table, and reading area. I think it's definitely the most used room in the base.
There's also the Command center which has the office of the group's leader in the back. I've got other photos somewhere, but not uploaded yet.
The only thing I worry about is a base editor change invalidating all my hard work so far. -
Quote:I'd worry that a base editor that doesn't suck would invalidate all the work that went into making the Unity Vigil's home, Unity Station (That'd be their rec room.)I'd settle for a foreclosure notice, followed by a base editor that doesn't suck, but that's just me.

In England, we just show public service announcements like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDwHOYOqJVw
You may not want to watch if you're squeemish.
And no, it's not the 'If you hit me at 40 miles per hour, there's a seventy percent chance I'll die.' one. -
Quote:One of my Loyalists is firmly anti-Resistance after they did a terrorist bombing at a restaurant favoured by some of the Praetors. The explosion cost him not only the lower half of his body (Having now built replacement legs for himself from Clockwork tech), but the life of his partner Toshiro as well.
A Loyalist whose parents were killed in a Resistance raid, and hence is blindly supportive of Cole and Co.
Glad to see other people have similiar ideas of just why a character might hate them so -
If people have started recommending anime, I have to recommend my favourite show ever.
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex.
The adventures of Public Security Section 9 against various threats, from crime to politics to war to corporations. The English Dub is quite frankly excellent, and the animation is top notch.
I think I've now rewatched all three parts of it (SAC is 26 episodes, the sequel, 2nd Gig is 26, and then there's a movie, Solid State Society) more than my other favourite anime, Bubblegum Crisis.
I'll also throw a heads up for Planetes too. A show about garbage collection in space. Quite realistic.
