Quote:And the whole process of animating transformation is really not at all tied to being origin-specific.If they added transforming body pieces to the game I would love that. I suppose it doesn't have to be tied to tech but the whole process of animating the transformation. I don't think that would happen.
It's tied to whether it would be a good use of BaBs (and minions) developer time to make those animations, and whether it needs a whole new powerset attached or if those animations could be made as alternate animations for exisitng powers.
Alternate animations for existing powers has been discussed down in S&I on more than one occasion (usually in the context of "magic wands" but your transforming arm cannon is the same thing with a different flavor).
So you might want to go look for those discussions and add your voice to a couple.
Basically, I think you weren;t asking the true question, but now hopefully we have helped you refine it to something closer to what you want (transforming arm cannons, etc., not necessarily a "tech-origin-specific" powerset). -
Thanks, Clebstein & khyrin!
Those of you lobbying for Parkour as a travel power might want to keep in mind that there some of us out there who never heard of this before, and therefore might want to explain it a bit next time it comes up (because we all know that once this thread dies down and moves to page 15 or so, someone will bring it up in a new thread).
I'm betting that SCR applies as to whether the stuff in the YouTube video can even be done with our game engine anyway. -
OK, I keep seeing the term "Parkour" being suggested as a travel power.
I think I am getting the general idea of what it might be, but can someone definitely tell me what exactly it is and where it came from? I mean, the other travel powers are pretty straightforward - fly, jump, teleport, superspeed (run really really fast). But Parkour means nothing to me when I think of ways to move around. -
Quote:That's the one all right.Surprised this wasn't mentioned yet. No, the mission Ad Astra was talking about wasn't the one from Dr Creed, it's the one from Kalinda. It's one of the first missions given out, and it's over half a mile from the contact. To make matters worse, it's the last mission before she hands out her phone number, and at that point all of her missions are close to Fort Darwin anyway.
I hate taking the walking tour of Mercy, dodging thru all those funky multi-level streets (so quaint, aren't they?) and piles of rubbish.
The one in Dr. Creed's arc where you get the Giant Hypodermic of Contaminated Doom is fun, so when if I bother to stick around Mercy after level 5, I enjoy that one. -
I only used a few tokens.
I did move one villain from Triumph to Freedom, to see if I could finish levelling her to 50. But then they announced that VEATs would be unlockalble at 20, so now there's no rush to take her to max level. I didn't really like Freedom, so I used another token to move her back to Triumph, where my SVG is located.
I moved a few more from Infinity and Liberty to Victory, rebalancing three SGs and freeing up spots for new I17 & GoRo heroes.
Since I stayed on my servers, I also stayed in those fora and globals. -
Dual Blades has a mechanic that isn't used in other powersets - the "combo". The UI tells you which one is next, so you don't have to memorize them all, but it is a bit more complex than Katana would be. (Notice - just a "bit" more complex).
I have a Katana/Regen Scrapper as one of the first 5 I rolled up, lots of fun, and Regen is nice, especially as you are learning the game.
Didja see where I said she was one of the first 5 characters I rolled? I currently switch among about 60 alts, about 6 of them scrappers. The Katana/Regen is slightly different from the others, as M_B explained above. Some people call Regen a "clicky" set as you generally have to keep track of your Health bar to know when to fire off one of your self-heals. Other Scrapper sets have more inherent armor-type powers, so they play differently. All fun though. -
Well, we have been told that the City Vault is on "indefinite hold", which usually means "not happening" in PR release-speak.
So I guess the answer to your OP is there isn't any plan to roll something out for the foreseeable future. -
It can be a bit confusing, since the Cosmetic Surgeons look just like the rest of the regular staff at Facemaker or Icon. You have to mouse over to see the slightly different name.
-
There are many ways to build a character, and with our Archetype and powerset structure, it's hard to build anything that is downright unplayable - I've seen a few players deliberately try, but it took effort.
Blasters are tons of fun if you want to just kill stuff right and left, but be careful to learn aggro ranges and just how many foes to take on at once. If you have played ranged characters before or just like the idea of range, a Blaster is for you. I also second eryq's suggestion of Fire/Ice. Fire is lots of carnage (the powersets "secondary" effect is more damage) while Ice gives you some slows and a single target hold.
Scrappers are also pretty heavy damage, but more single target than blasters. They have much better mitigation tools and are therefore considered newbie-friendly. One or two scrapper powersets have a one or two ranged powers (very short range at that) so they are definitely melee-focused.
Try a bunch of different sets and see what feels like fun. Play that one for a while, but if you get bored or want a change of pace, roll something else. This game is really about rolling alts to experience it in different ways - it does not currently have what many folks consider to be a strong "end game" although there is a lot of stuff to do with your high-level or max-level character.
I haven't seen anyone else mention it yet, but bookmark this site:

This is a player-built and maintained wiki with just about any tidbit of info you might be seeking.
Welcome to the game! -

And because I haven't seen anyone say it yet -

Great fount of information on almost anything you can think of to ask for the game. -
Quote:The Jewel of Hera - A lowbie (under level 6) mission guaranteed to be in the layer-cake cave.Let's face it, some missions are more fun than others. But fun is relative.
For me, I auto-complete:
- any mission in a CoT cave. Almost every mission in this game has an element of hide-and-seek to it; find the glowies, find the boss, find the hostage(s), etc. These caves just have way too many hiding places for me to find them fun.
- bizarre objectives. There is a RWZ mission where there are mobs that attack you but you are not allowed to defeat them. Personally, I hate this concept. I never do that mission.
- zone restricted kill x missions. If I'm told to take out 50 of something in a specific zone, it's very unlikely I'm gonna actually do it. If no zone is mentioned, then at least I can do a paper/radio mission and kill two birds at once.
- some timed missions. Fortunately, with these, you can just ignore them and they time out to completion. I do most of them, but sometimes they just get sprung on you without warning, like when you cash in a quest and suddenly a timer is running on a new one. I'm looking at you Cimerora.
There used to be others (like most AV missions), but since we can now set our own difficulties, I don't feel the need to auto-complete very often.
Eliminate the Infected - The lowbie villain mission that takes you all the way across Mercy Island at level 3 or 4.
In a similar vein, I almost always try to gain a level or three before I actually go take down the Sea Witch (since it can't be auto-completed) since that one is tough for a lot of the villain ATs in the low 20s when it comes up. That's why I will always oppose any suggestion to auto-exemp to mission level when it comes up.
Those are the ones I always skip, and as an altoholic, I see them rather frequently.
Layer cake caves aren't so bad once I can hover up and down between layers. -
Quote:www.paragonwiki.comAre there any plans to roll out something like the Aion Power Wiki for City of Heroes?
The City Vault was a great idea, and Power Wiki appears to have delivered for another of the NCsoft properties. Just thought it would be a natural fit.
See also: Beta pics of the City Vault on Massively
Well-established and updated continuously for the past history of the game.
NOTE: Do not use the "wikia" version as it hosts malicious things to harm your computer and is a haven for RMT ads. -
Add me to the list of players who very much *want* a dark/dark blaster.
All of the suggestions in the thread look fine to me, but I am not the numbers person and I can see all the issues being brought up as at least partially valid. But surely among the various flavors being discussed here, there has to be a way to get the two sets into the game.
Thanks for bringing it up again, Bill Z! -
For me, a forgotten zone is the far southern end of Indy Port. I always cuss a bit when I get one of those contacts that sit way down there, and then just go on to one of the others or run scanners in hopes of getting someone more convenient. I rarely go much further south than the KR tunnel and Icon. I also rarely go tp the northern edge other than to see the guy about my cape or the other side of the zone away from the train. Hmmm, I guess I don't go to very much of IP at all, do I?
I skip over going to see Stephanie Peebles and Jim Tremblor whenever possible (just go to other contacts or do scanners until I level past th trigger point for getting those introduction missions, although I will sometimes go see JT if I am getting the PvP intro mission so I can do both on the same swoop to south Skyway).
Crey's is just for getting my auras - you don't even need to go thru it to get to the Crash Site any more. -
Quote:I just store it on a character, since Halloween salvage doesn't count towards the salvage limit on the character. I think my costume salvage carrier on Liberty has about 12-15 seta of each stored.I started a solo SG just so I could have a place to store my extra Halloween salvage. I don't see the point in selling all of it because I give it away to friends and teammates. I would just like more room to store it in between events.
The Salvage storage in my base can be much better used for invention salvage. -
Quote:I second Capa's list. We had/have a thread where we nominate items that we have found in-game that we would really really love to have in our bases - lamps, tables, televisions (instead of monitors), lab equipment. I particularly want to have all of the office furniture found in the villainside office maps and the various paintings found all over the place.I'd like to see:
* An assurance that if PvP raiding is brought back, those of us who do not raid don't have to comply to their pathing rules even if we use a 'secure base plot' for energy requirements. A total opt out of PvP and pathing related to PvP
* More base items. There's some lovely items around the Isles/City (I recall a lamp in an arc somewhere) let's have at it
* Clearer TP beacons PLEASE. I use an overlay so I can read arcane ones but it really is guess work
* A couple of direction signs? "Porters -> "or "<- Vault" just a couple to aid people.
* On the subject of editing; I usually buy a bigger plot size, edit etc (with copious use of expensive corridors) and then resize down but I'm dreading maxing the plot size because that takes away that option. I do appreciate the difficulty of breaking base continuity while editing. (Member zones in and is stuck. LOLs allround.) However, would it be possible to have a way to be able to make edits and changes which don't effect the actual base until it is "republished"? Similar to MA arcs. You can edit but nothing is set - errors are flagged but the changes not rejected - until you try to republish. This would enable members to use the base without any problems; it would be easier for them as they wouldn't get lost as the editor is moving things around! Only one person can edit a base at one time so there shouldn't be any issues regards conflict.
But my main wish is to have a base option that says my bases will never, never have to worry about raid pathing because my small 2-3 person SGs won;t be raiding (Capa's #1 above). -
Quote:Blackberry cobbler is my favorite-est thing of all!Pies trump cakes when the pies are Pecan and Coconut Cream in my world. Cakes trump all other pies only when they are Butter Pecan, Coconut, and French Vanilla.
Blueberry, Blackberry, Peach, and Apple Cobblers trump ALL!!!
With that said, I respectfully request my birthday icon to randomly reflect one of the cobblers above as to help me decide which one I should have on my birthday. You have 8 months to figure out how to do this as 2011 will be a milestone birthday for me as I hit the old age of 35 years.
Horatio, I join you in your plea to have recognition of the anniversaries of our births in many and multitudinous ways!
And to you, Mr. Ocho, I say "Fie! Such Scroogish behavior masquerading as neutrality should be beneath you! Stop shilly-shallying and waffling and bring us back our cake AND pie!"
Wait, did someone mention waffles? Mmmm, waffles....
P.S. BTW Matt, you young whipper-snapper - black text works horribly on the CoV forum background. -
And the Tech Broadsword already looks kinda like a "laser sword" - let alone the Vanguard/Talsorian unlockable blades.
Although, another skin for the Sword sets to be more elemental or lasery would be welcome. -
My Blasters want Hasten - why should it go to Brutes? So does my Corruptor and my Scrapper, BTW. The Blasters, Corruptors and Scrappers still have to use a power pick to get it - how is that fair?
My Tanker already has Taunt (both the power and the taunt component in her powers) so Provoke is useless to me. She would like to have Assault instead, please.
My Controller does not want Aid Other (especially the /Emp and the /Rad) - can she substitute something else instead?
See where I'm going with this? Assigning automatic pool powers as you suggest seems to be trying to dictate roles and playstyles to players - which they may or may not want.
Sorry, /unsigned. -
Quote:My Ar/Dev Blaster is a mutant. Yes, she uses "things" to fight crime - but her mutant ability is her ability to Fly, her better-than-human regeneration (she has the fitness pool - Helath, Stamina) and her uncanny aim/accuracy.Please explain to me how my Assault Rifle is magical. Or a mutant, for that matter.
I would love the OP's idea, fancy origin be damned.
I have to join those who say OP's idea seems to dictate origins - and to me, much more importantly - it dictates COSTUME. The character would necessarily have to be clad in some sort of powerarmor or at the least use Cyborg pieces to make the set look like the powers were appropriate to the costume. And let's not forget that the Cyborg costume pieces are from a BOOSTER and are not automatically available to everyone.
To those who have not liked the disagreement voiced in this thread - S & I is a place to temper your ideas in the fires of criticism from others. To benefit from this, there has to be both support and opposition to the idea. A string of "/signed" doesn't provide any way for the idea to be refined.
P.S. - My MM's Robots are Magick, as she is a Steampunk themed character and they are powered by magickal crystals. So, I definitely don't subscribe to the idea that Weapon Sets and MM Sets dictate a particular origin. They only do that if you limit your own imagination. -
Quote:Well, I'm not a fan of the Axe because I hate drawing it out (it seems sssoooo slow) and it is only a single target attack. If I line up the Sands correctly, I can get multiple targets - pretty important to low-level alts when you are limited by having inly a few power picks. What's the big problem with the Ghost Slaying Axe? I've never taken it, but almost everyone says it's way worse than Sands of Mu.
I guess my regret was not finding the forums sooner and also not understanding the importance of global chat channels sooner. Both of those would have made my life here a bit easier if I had found them right away.
This is my first & only MMO, so I was also a bit shy about teaming at first. I just *knew* that everyone else was so much more experienced than I am. Even today, I can't team with any of my tanks, because I feel that I don't know how to tank and the responsibility to the team seems like more than I want to take on and then screw up. -
Well, I signed up for AARP today. Those of you old enough know that AARP has it timed for you to receive their invitaton on a particular birthday, and the mail from them has been arriving like clockwork over the past 3 months.
I had to learn how to use a slide rule in high school physics, even though calculators were starting to be pretty powerful and more common, because my teacher wanted us to have a "back up plan".
In college, if I wanted to run a statistical analysis of anything (as a poli sci student) I had to create a pile of punch cards and hope I never dropped them because I would never get them back in order.
I never played any twitch games and the lack of that mechanic is one of the reasons I love City and have stayed here for over 5 years. I was awkwardly "too grown up" (late teens and college-age) for Atari when my younger sibs got their 2600, so other than Pong at the local Pizza Hut, I didn't really play video games until my mid 30s, after I got my own IBM386 (I worked for a small business that built computers). Wizardry Gold? Sim City? Heroes of Might & Magic? That's what I played until I started MMos right here in Paragon City. -
Quote:The biggest 10 dollar power I rave about is Ninja Run.I dont have to skip a thing in my builds by level 50.I can have easly every power in both my Primary and Secondary sets and still ahve room for the Fittness pool, minus Hurdle. If I want a Epic pool, then I just choose a power I dont need at all from my build and by level 50, I can have 3 Fittness Pool powers and 3 Epic Pool powers.
Powers like If I went with a Traps/ Defender, and skipped Web Grenade.I could take every other power after that in Traps, and have every single blast from my Secondary by level 38.Same for Tanks, Blasters, Scrappers, Ect.
I make characters that have a balance from there power sets.To me, being able to use most, if not all of my powers in my sets makes a more solid character then if I went to use a Mid's Program, or other pools for that matter.Quote:I have went and learned the game from a diffrent stand point.
Primary X + Secondary Y = Desired Balance.
That simple equation is the root of how I play.I dont go for Synergy most the time.I go for Balance in whatever feild of performance I wish to go.
I can't think of a character where I used the entire Primary *and* Secondary set without using PoolPowers and Ancillary Powers. The closest is my Katana/Regen where I didn't take the "taunt" equivalent.
And I don't think that Synergy and Balance are antithetically opposed playstyles and I can't see where that view comes from.
In my experience of rolling up alts, every powerset in the game has at least one power that I don't see my character using, so I skip it. And since you can pick 24 powers in total, but have 9 Primary, 9 Secondary, 16 Pool Powers (4 pools X 4) and 5 Ancillary Powers, for a total of 39 options, I tend to think that using Pool Powers was intended to be a valid method of playing your character.
I'm not min/maxxing when my Blasters take a travel power plus a couple powers from the Concealment pool plus the big 3 from Fitness. I'm creating a Blaster who can be sneaky (to help protect herself) who can Fly and Blast things tirelessly. Rail against Mid's all you want, but I've never even looked at that program yet decided that using 3-4 pools plus the ancillary pool was going to be the most fun way to play her. Just reading power descriptions and then testing them out (either on Test or on Live when I have a /respec available if I want to make a change) gave me that insight.
My 2 level 50's BTW are an Energy/Elec/Elec Blaster and a Rad/Dark/Dark Defender - not very FotM, but not useless in a fight either. I also have another Blaster, Scrapper and Corruptor in the mid40s and tons of other alts from level 2 on up. And, for the record, I also have Cold/Ice Defender and a Storm/Ice Defender and a Fire/Fire Tank and a couple of others you list as uncommon. I know I've seen others play those powersets, so I don't see them as all that uncommon.
I've never played on Freedom, but I keep seeing comments from others who do play there who state that your experience of being kicked for not being FotM or for being an "uncommon" build is not the norm and that in fact they have never experienced anything like it. I'm wondering if you are taking a couple of random odd choices by a couple of random odd team leaders and building a monumental problem out of nothing much at all. -

Quote:This one.Generally B, though TBH, a level 36 is going to have a hard time contributing. I would send a tell and ASK if lvl 36 is okay. Even if everyone is SSK'd to 50, everyone (but the leader) being low-level will spell disaster. After all, lvl 50 versions of foes are balanced around you having 24 powers and 67 additional slots. Not to say it couldn't be done, but still, a random PuG may not be the best palce to test that theory.
