Origin Powersets
See every prior argument against tying them, or costume bits or whatever to origin.
I don't really have the time to do that, but I was wondering why so I thought I'd ask before it eats away at me.

Negaduck: I see you found the crumb. I knew you'd never notice the huge flag.
right now i only pick natural origin anyway because the mini powers they give you IMO are extremely useless, end-hogging attacks. natural origin also would allow me to get a dmg bonus on nem staff or blackwand depending on which i want to get, and i think the natural origin enhance stores are located more conveniently (although this is kind of moot once you hit 32)
What I don't get is why things HAVE to be for every origin. I still don't see why these types of ideas should be limited?

because origins are kind of pointless at this point in the game, honestly if they just got rid of the origins entirely, i honestly wouldnt really care, but i doubt they will be going away for RP reasons and since they are already tied to so many other things in game (like SO/DO and if you do bonus dmg with vet ranged attacks)

Shuriken - Let me take magic as an example.
I have magoc origin heroes who...
- are magical beings (Reharakhty, an Egyptian God; Geburah, the personificatoin of a kabbalistic sphere).
-have a magical artifact (Agincourt, an archer with a magic bow used at the battle of that name).
Yet most people seem to express Magic Origin powersets, gizmoes, costumes, etc. in terms of magicians, people who use magic to cast spells.
I have tech heroes who are imbued with nanotech powers, and would not fit into a Tech Origin powerset based on armor or tools.
And so on.
The powers are what they are. People can fill in the background any way they like. The more options we have to customize them, the better. But there is no sound reason to limit the choices people make to a specific Origin, forcing their imagination to conform to some aesthetic decision by the designers.
My scrapper doesn't need an AoE. She IS an AoE.

Because limiting options is bad? What reasoning would you give for making such a restrictive powerset?
I don't know, it feels like generic power sets will get boring sooner or later. Sticking to elements and a couple weapons. Where do we expand from there?

I did not ask this because I'm bored with the current powersets. I ask because I wanted to know why people thought it was so terrible. Honestly, I would like to see a powerset where you can shoot missiles or something. I can't really wrap myself around why because from what I heard so far is it would take away from RP aspects. I'm pretty sure people have worked around origins before regardless of what they picked I don't see why it would be so hard to do it now.

A powerset that shoots missiles? Hot dang, lemme just grab my wand--I'ma shoot me some Magic Missiles.
What, you don't think Magic Missiles exist?

I think there's some confusion going on here between origin-restricted powersets and origin-slanted powersets.

I would post a pic saying "Obvious Troll is Obvious" but looking at his post count, I see that's not the case. A Troll would have gotten bored and bolted by now.
We don't have origin-specific powersets because people would complain.
People complain because we don't have origin specific powersets, but there are less of them.

Origin-restricted: Only certain origins can use the powerset. This is just plain stupid in my opinion.
Origin-slanted: It very much appears that this powerset is aligned with a given origin, i.e. missles. This is far less dumb, but I still take issue with things like this on occasion. Though, it may be significant to the argument to take a look at some of the things that people have done, creatively, with backstory.
I'm getting an "access restricted" from that link. Is it in the GR Beta forum or something?
Dec out.

At any rate, I have seen some very very creative use of text to "justify" origins being used for characters on which it shouldn't make any sense at all.
Why are people so against them?
