    Name Change?

I don't think it'll ever stop being "City of Heroes" but we already have one of the clunkiest names/acronyms in the known universe and Going Rogue will more than lilely add to that confused moniker.

I'm not sure what you guys think but if you were marketing, wouldn't you be looking at that now?
SWTOR is a clunky acronym. CHV works just fine.
  2. My main rule of etiquette on teams I lead, as long as the team has been formed to satisfaction before getting to the door, is to wait for everyone to load in the mission before starting.

As for pet peeves, if someone catches me after we've already started a mission and wants to join, I try to give them an idea of how far along we are. I appreciate the same thing in turn. For example, if you're in northern Nerva and almost done with your mission when you invite me, warn me about that so that I don't waste time traveling to the mission door and zone in for the mission to be completed 3 seconds later.

Also, within reason, listen to the leader. I remember one time when the mission objective was a glowie, and there were at least 2 mobs well within site of the glowie but solidly out of aggro range. We get the glowie, and another player starts talking about going after the remaining mobs. Leader says exit the mission. The other player started -arguing- with the rest of the TEAM that you always clear a mission. No ifs, ands, or buts. That's how it was done.
  3. Depends on the incentives included therein. Though the early access to load the game before launch -is- always nice.

I have quite a few homage characters myself. Ahreman the Red, for example, was inspired by Black Adam/Captain Marvel, but I at least like to think I've developed him enough into his own character.

Depends on how much you're straying from the inspiration. As was mentioned though, you do seem to be dancing around any specifics for your character in question.
  5. Best use I've ever seen of a "Gather for X" buff bind was a Defender light RP stripper type character. Her version was something like "You want some of this?" timed with the ***-smacking taunt emote.
  6. I also completely forgot about another method I've seen used. Working under the premise that group commlinks are sophisticated enough to be able to translate most languages on the spot, for a character that constantly spoke in Japanese, the player simply prefaced everything they said (similar to [OOC] style binds) with a variation of "Translated" or "TFJ".

And elaborating on the characters I mentioned, the Peruvian was psychotically insane and somewhat simple minded. He switched back and forth at random between Spanish and English, and did not know complex English words.

For my main, on the other hand, I play it that he is willfully ignorant of learning any more than basic, formal English. He has no desire to do so. Sort of like how, well at least in my day, High School foreign language classes only taught the basics and acknowledged that there were multitudes of dialects that did things differently. Anyone who uses heavy slang or pop cultures references might as well be speaking another language altogether to my main.

With two of my characters, I've taken the time to map several in-character phrases ranging from, "Where do you think *you're* going, $target?" for chasing down a mob; to, "Your fight's with *me*, $target!" to let the others know that I'm taunting or engaging a mob that's attacking a teammate.

I'm usually the only one on my group who seems to have bothered with it, but so far, I've received no outward complaints. Although when I group with a particular quiet set of people, I kind of feel I'm doing it too much when the chat space is filled with my character yelling out stuff in local speak... But about a quarter of the time, I find that one or two others start attempting the same in-character fighting, though I can tell that a lot of it isn't binded.

Just wanted to know how many of you guys would find that sort of thing annoying.
    ...
Done in moderation, I have no problem with that. Many moons ago, I was on a CoH PuG with a guy that must of had at least 30 different one liner taunts. Through about 3 missions, the guy never said the same thing twice, and it was hilarious.

I've had a Ninja Blade Stalker that had "I am not the assassin you're looking for." cued to Placate, and a pro-wrestler style Scrapper that had a bunch of cheesy "I'm not through with you, villain!" style taunts.

Elaboration: We have a working 'crafting' system in place for any IO that's working. Your suggestion sounds like you meant to post this in Champions Online forums, considering we don't have 'Primary' and 'Secondary' IOs, we just have IOs, and I'd like to keep it that way.
Where are you getting that I said primary and secondary IOs?

I was just tossing out an option, instead of a something completely new in a "pure" crafter Archtype, I said to have an admittedly new AT with a Primary powerset of low ranged damage, and a Secondary Powerset dealing with the crafting bonuses.

    Quote:
Further Elaboration: And why, you ask? Because we've already got Origins, which are enough for me to work with. If they were to make origin-specific crafting things, it would not only force people to roll the origin they want just for those perks, but more often than not, it simply wouldn't fit the concept of the origin they chose.
Oh, yes, because Origins as they are now are ever so important to the gameplay.

Both pretty similar to this, but with more spelling mistakes. I think the problem was your team and I invaded a space two others were just chatting in, and they resented this. Since I was normally my "blabby" self in character, I probably got the heat as I was dominating the conversation at the time...
Well then. I had no idea about that. If my admittedly poor memory serves, I could have sworn that were we by ourselves at the time, then you came in, then some others wondered by when they noticed the scene, but that's sort of moot at this point.

In our case, the Society has had characters who tend to dominate the RP from day one; Agonus at meetings, Count when he's on his game, Eiko when she's in a chatty mood, and several others who joined more recently too. While I've grown to take it in course, I know it's not the case with newer players. Needs to work on that, we do.
  10. On the rare occasions I venture into D, and I still do from time to time, I have a personal rule to try to avoid spitting out life stories to complete strangers as small talk. I do, however, actively look for more morally inclined conversations I can pipe in on, as I love playing devil's advocate.

It doesn't have to be the D of course, but since this is a rare cross-faction space, it can be a convenient location to use. I once delivered a motion to censure an entire country (fictitious of course), directly from the UN to a character at the D. And the boos and cat calls I got privately for doing this were pretty astonishing. ...
Really?! That's odd, you were the one who was acting as the hero and -you- got booed, not us?
  11. Wow, I've never even thought of the possibility of an online source for dialects. T'would be all sorts of nifty to have an international one.

That's the main thing that's held me back from playing a Japanese character, doing the speech pattern justice, but I finally broke down and decided to give it a try recently. My main method is having "Speaks with a Japanese accent" in the typing bubble and to toss in words picked up from online translators. The character is also somewhat formal, so English slang and contractions are out too.

I have a character from Peru who speaks in broken English with what little I know of Spanish thrown in, which is all fun until I come across someone who knows more Spanish than me. >.<

My main is supposed to be Egyptian, with Arabic as his native language. A usually calm character, he also speaks very formally, as he only ever bothered to learn basic English, but the more agitated he gets, the worse his English gets. His "accent" has sort of mutated into Ebou Dari more than anything with some verbal tics and Arabic mutterings thrown in.

I've come across people who can pull off native Russian and German characters ridiculously well, and then there are those that go so over the top it borders on parody.

    Crafting

Been wondering for a while with the arrival of so many game features we were initially told were never going to be possible. What's the word on the possibility of ever having AT's that can gain experience and level by crafting? Something like an Inventor Blueside and a Mad Scientist Redside. Make them pure crafting classes or split it up with some low damage ranged powers as the primary or secondary in addition to a primary or secondary geared towards crafting bonuses?

I got stuck on using "theatre" and "sabre" back in high school because of the plays I was in. And I live near Centre county, so that doesn't help either.

Gaming R&D teams have also shot my sense of "grey" versus "gray" to all hell. (It's a double edged sword I guess, as game designers can expand your vocabulary. I didn't know what a candelabra was before Magic: The Gathering, for example.)

Reminds me of when I was chewed out for using "Alright" instead of "All right" in a line of dialogue. Didn't even cross my mind at the time that there was a different way to spell it. Looked it up finally, and several sites insisted both were accepted, but boy, that guy sure was livid at the time. >.<

Yeah, a small thing to many probably, but it bugs me. Someone that is going to HeroCon pounce a dev and beg, will ya?
Pets still have speech bubbles that you see for the basics; attacking, following, getting dismissed, etc. (The Ninja "All shall succumb to your will." "Hai." and "Into the shadows.", for example.) General speech bubbles where you could input what they say were removed, supposedly to stop griefing.

I have a level 20 blind/mute magical avatar thing that used her pets to talk for her when this hit. Shelved the character, probably going to delete her here shortly. Asking people to look at the pet dialogue in the chatbox just doesn't work quite as well. >.<

    Welcome to Virtue.
Nor mine. I'm pretty tolerant of different speaking styles in RP, (unless you use noir-ish blocks of text =-p) but I draw the line at "How r u?" for the way a character speaks.
  20. Strongest build - lvl 50 SS/WP Brute with perma-Rage

Most fun to play - Rather fond of a Thugs/Pain MM who just hit 38 last night.

Least fun to play - A toss up between a Level 50 Mind/Psi Dom and 50 Inv/Energy Tank. Blech. Got both up to 50 at the last Double XP weekend just to get it over with.

I had completely forgotten about mobs doing the Oblivion Crouch to sneak into place. Haven't seen that in many moons.

I love all these little things they add in though. Lost taking naps and panhandling while idle, and others pushing wheelbarrels around, and carrying bodybags.

    RPvP

Best of luck. We've tried expanding on the casual tone pre-determined outcome RPvP we've done and had a blast with in our group to little success. In my experience, most RPers won't touch even casual PVP with a 20 foot pole, and most PVPers won't touch RP with a 30 foot pole. To say the least, it's incredibly tricky finding the right balance.
