    More powers

It's very handy having a fourth powers tray open. I run mine vertically along the right-side edge - dedicated to all the various "travel" powers, including Ouro Portal, Assemble the Team, Base Transporter, etc.

OP - betcha wish all your suggestions had such quick solutions, doncha?
  2. Felicitations on the anniversary of your birth, Mr. Positron!
  3. This Saturday will be my first chance in quite a while to join this (as I said in the Synapse thread) - dunno who I'm bringing yet, but she will blast stuff and possibly also buff/debuff (i.e., a blaster or defender, possibly a controller, depending upon how the team shakes out).

Most of the time I'm solo, but if and when I group, it's with a PuG unless I have joined a player-organized event team, such at a regular Saturday afternoon TF. Those teams are about half PuG (since anyone who signs up can join) and half known qualtity (since many of the "usual suspects" routinely show up)

    Quote:
    2) How often do you group with friends and fill the rest of the group with PuGs?
My SGs are 2-person goups formed with my sister. When we are both playing, we might be duoing or we might be soloing. On a few extremely rare occasions, we pick up someone else braidcasting, but we rarely do that because it doesn't seem fair to the added team member that she & I are in the same room and can easily talk, while the other team member has to type (and we have to type in response).

    Quote:
    3) How often do your PuG members do what you feel needs to be done without being told to do so?
Since what I feel needs to be done is attack stuff and use buffs/debuffs in a semi-coherent manner.

    Quote:
    4) How often do you find yourself telling PuG members what you feel they should be doing (for the good of the current team/session)?
If it's some knowledge about mission objectives or where to find something, then I inform them of what I know that they may not.

But hinestly, unless we teamwipe each and every spawn, it's all good.

    Quote:
    5) How often do you find yourself adding PuG members to your friends/global friends, and if those lists are full, using other methods of remembering them?
I used to do this, but it never seemed to pay off for me. I'm bouncing across servers too often for me to team with any particular other player too often. Friends lists are useless to me for that reason. Global friends lists are something that I currently really only use to check if someone is online from time-to-time.

I have never had a global friend invite me to team, except for those who are also on the global channel - the invite usually comes from the channel, not the friends list.

I personally I would not miss either friends list if they disappeared tomorrow.

    Quote:
    6) How often do you group with complete jerks in a PuG?
This term needs defining for me, especially in light of OP's own answer to it -

    Quote:
    6) Usually one person out of any given PuG is a complete jerk to me or someone else in the team.
I don't run into people I consider "jerks" all that often, so I wonder if our definitions are radically different. Is a jerk someone who isn't using their powers in the "one and only true BEST way" instead of being a bit unfocussed? Is it someone who is abusive in chat to others on the team? is it someone who never says anything at all? Is it someone who wants to take breaks to hit the market or vendors rather than steamroll thru the next 12 missions?

I haven't read thru the entire Rude Tells thread because it's so massive, so I don't know OP's reported experiences. But my own experience in the game is that if you don't set unreasonably high expectations of your teammates (which seems wise since we have a lot of people playing for only a few hours a week, and therefore not well-versed in each and every intricacy of the game's mechanics and how each mission runs) then you don't see jerks in every PuG out there. If you are seeing that many jerks, maybe you should step back at examine your own behavior to see what has caused you to perceive "jerkism" in the behavior of others.

Tell that to the players soloing entire Taskforces. I used to speedrun the old Positron TF for merits all the time. I somehow managed to "sufficiently mitigate" my endurance issues without stamina enough to make thousands of merits soloing that TF. Unpossible!

Heck, tell that to the players just running normal content. I just finished playing with a team of low level players tonight. Two of them were new to the game. All were below level 20, except my Scrapper at 22, so none of them had Stamina. No one was ranting about endurance problems. We didn't rest between spawns. We just played normally.. If two brand new players can understand how to deal with their pre-stamina endurance, I'd call that more than "sufficiently mitigated".
Amazing that two new players, that don't know all the intimate details about game mechanics and powers can deal with endurance just fine, yet to you it is apparently an insurmountable obstacle.

    "Give me EVIDENCE," you say.
"Here's a very brief survey," I say, "and it supports my opinion.
    "That doesn't count," you say.

I've seen many research articles published by the American Psychiatric Association with sample sizes smaller than 50. I guess you'd better tell them their research is bollocks.

Agreement is agreement. I granted that it wasn't perfect, and that the numbers would be different for TOTAL agreement, but as usual, it's never enough with some people.

Uberguy, those last three sentences represent my opinion. I'm entitled to that. It's supported to some degree by what I've seen in this thread, and elsewhere. That is, again in my opinion, sufficient cause to give it a tweak.

Panzer, you're citing fringe cases, unless you're suggesting everyone can solo AVs and 8 man missions and whatnot. I'm interested in what's best for all (yes, including myself). I will say the problem is far more manifest solo because your team is doing things for you when you can't. Thus you don't notice it as readily.

I didn't say it was unmanageable, I said the effect it has is excessive. These statements aren't at odds.

Dechs, see my response to Rush, above. I don't need to do math to have an opinion.
    Ultimo_

You conveniently skipped over the part of Panzer's post where he spoke of his team that included 2 new players - where the whole team was pre-Stamina - and wasn't noticing any Endurance problems. That tends to not support your opinion.

Other posts in this thread also tend to not support your opinion - there have been many who state that managing Endurance might not be "fun" to all players, but that either find the task of managing it to be challenging (best case) or at the very least, not tedious to the point of making the whole game "UNFUN". Even some of those who somewhat agreed with you in your count of support were not strongly supporting you.

For the record, I do not find managing Endurance to be unfun, neither do I find it to be all that much of a challenge - my own playstyle is to run solo most of the time, not racing through mission after mssion, so the negligile amount of time is takes for Endurance to recover does not really affect the speed I am playing at. If I want a session of just zerging through spawn after spawn, I join a team. I do like to think that this style is not uncommon amongst the playerbase as a whole.

That being said - Ultimo_ has now stated more than once that his post is based on "OPINION". And although several have tried to convince him otherwise (not sure why y'all thought that would work this time when it hasn't on the eleventy-bajillion other discussions that started out with his opinion) you aren't going to change his mind this time either. Give it up as a lost cause.

But I do really, really wonder why he still pays for a subscription to a tedious, unfun game. If I truly found a game unfun, lI would stop playing it - in fact, I have stopped several games in my time for that very reason. And most of those tedious games are the free ones on FB or MSN Games - I certainly wouldn't have paid for them.
  7. I can't be there this week - but I should be on deck for the following Saturday (6/19) - that should be Sister Psyche, right?

I have several characters in the 20-25 range, so I can probably bring either a defender or blaster.
  8. I would call the powerset "Adrenalin Junkie". Of course, that's what I call all my blasters as they skate close to the edge as well.

So you are dismissing my observations and Forbin's as "not constructive" feedback? Both of us expressed dismay over your choice of "plum" colored text.

In a medium based on text, good communication should be made easier when using fonts/colors, etc., not more irritating. You concede that it "doesn't agree with the villains scheme", but still appear to be obstinate in continuing to use it. Why offer to others ways to derail your thread?

[QUOTE]My points been made. The entire point of a booster pack is to get costume pieces in the first place, not just a temp power. Why comment on a post about booster packs that are going to be added anyway (when the devs release them) simply stating you dont agree with them?
Goes back to my above point about making unconstructive pointless comments for the sake of it.{/QUOTE]

I offered my problem with the vast majority of your suggested booster packs - I don't like costumes being the focus of the packs. I like costumes added to the game in free expansions. How is that not offering relevant comments? How is it "unconstructive"? I only wrote one sentence on it because long posts that merely repeat and rehash are not good communication, just long for the sake of being long.

Your suggestions about what may or may not be included in booster packs is speculation and suggestion. I don't like the direction of your speculation and said so. You are correct that the Devs will release booster packs as they choose - but I don't entirely agree that the purpose of the boosters offered so far was to focus on new costume pieces.

All of them except the Wedding pack included a temp power that I see in use frequently in game. Depending upon the player, the temp power might be the more dominant or even exclusive reason to purchase the pack at all. I have especially seen this in comments on Ninja Run from the Natural Booster, although I am rarely on a TF/SF where the team doesn't buff up with Mystic Fortune before starting a new map. On the other hand, some of the costume pieces from the packs seem much more rare (the Wedding Veil, many of the Warrior pieces from Natural, the Witch Hats from Magic, etc.)

    Quote:

No, everyone could see it of course but people clicking on it would get a popup box telling them its not available or something. If it was functional for people that hadnt even bought the pack, no one would buy it other than one person per SG :P

For other items it would just be visual anyway, not everyone is going to want that part unless they design bases but the WW/BM access terminal from base would get a lot of people buying it to escape the lag and general annoyances in these public areas.

I don't have anything much to add to this outside of what I already responded to in Forbin's post - please see that post for my observations.

    Quote:
As for the teleport, I realised that after I made the post but forgot to edit perhaps a power that reduces selling fee to 0 in auction for a set amount of time?
Is that suggestion something that would come in connection with a WW/BM interface in the SG base? I want to assume it must, since having it as a standalone would be rather random. I don't have a strong feeling either way on it - mainly because I haven't been experiencing the massive lag others keep reporting when at WW/BM. Would having the interface be nice to have? Sure it would, but for me it probably would not be heavily used since it's not a big deal to get to the market to transact business.

Over in the Base Construction forum, there are multiple threads suggesting stuff to be added to bases, your WW/BM interface being one of them. Lots of discussion over there as well. You might want to see what others have already said to this idea as you seek "constructive posts" on the topic.

This is my last comment on your communication choices because it is derailing the main topic. But is also likely my last comment in the thread because I think I have offered you feedback and had a nice little discussion with Forbin on the topic, so I have finished with it.

Also - Pro Tip - If you think someone's posts are somehow not in keeping with the rules of this forum - repot the post to a Mod. But my previous posts were not out of line (IMHO) and you do not get to dictate who gets to post or what they post. You can certainly show your disdain by making it uncomfortable for them to read your posts, though.

    Level 35 Damage
    Level 35 Defense
    etc

    Instead of
    Level 35 Accuracy

    Level 40 Damage

To some extent they are organized alphabetically - except for the problem that sometimes, the enhancement is Damage Resistance and other times it is Resist Damage; there's also a problem that some enhancements are out of order in an apparently random manner (End Mod should be listed before End Red, right? But it isn't, and End Mod is way down the list). And then there's the problem of some of the status effects being called different names - is it "disorient" or is it "stun"?

So it would be nice if someone went thru the various lists and re-ordered them - after deciding what the "rule" is going to be.

I would say it's a really low priority project, but maybe it's something to give to the new hire to help bring them up to speed on systems.
  11. The more I see of the idea of having two different sets of costume pieces - plain vanilla in the regular free updates and a spiffier one either for free or for one of the vet rewards already in-game - the more I like it.

I also would like to see something, almost anything at all, added to bases. I just wanted to see if the mechanics of the suggestion had ever been considered - I'm trying to raise issues for thought. Getting new stuff to add to my bases is all very well and good, but if my sister (who shares the bases, but rarely if ever buys booster packs) can't use the stuff I've added then it doesn't really add all that much to the base I've created. The stuff added by Vet Rewards so far have all been cosmetic and decorative, and therefore a non-issue if she hasn't earned them yet (her account is about 3-4 months "younger" than mine, so she now has them all, but she did lag behind). Functional things like a WW interface might be more problematic.
  12. Great idea!

(insert other text to show agreement, in order to stretch out the post to make it longer than a 2-word reply.)
  13. OP - just curious -

Even though you were told that your choice of font color was difficult to read on the villain background (even to the point of one poster stating that she did not read it) -

Why do you persist in using a color that makes reading your posts difficult to a significant portion of your intended audience? Is it because you feel that anyone using the reddish forum background is not worthy to consider your ideas because they must obviously play villainside more than heroside? Personally, I have chosen to use the red background because I don't like the particular blue hue chosen for that background.

I think I am likely going to be joining LISAR and just skip reading your posts in the future - which is a pity since you have had some good ideas.

For these suggestions, though I do have a few comments.

First, I really hate the idea of boosters being the only way to get new costume bits, ESPECIALLY new hair styles, so all of those are /unsigned by me.

Regarding the SG booster pack - how would that work exactly? Boosters apply per account, so even if you added the items suggested, those who did not purchase the pack would not have access to them? And when they are in the base, what would appear to them? A big blank space where the WW interface should be - or a model of the interface that was not functional? Ugh. And the ability to teleport to your base from anywhere (on a long recharge) is already in game as a Veteran's Reward at 24 months.

    Respecs?

IIRC, everything in the NCStore is free when on Test. I know that character slots are (just purchased a few).
  18. Ad Astra

    The Respec Trial

I wouldn't necessarily be against making it a bit tougher or more interesting - but also recall that when the trial was set up, it was for the purpose of correcting your messed up build choices. So the characters on the trial oftentimes weren't that good at dealing with waves, etc. and sometimes needed to catch their breath between them.

I know for many, many players this isn't the case anymore, even for the level 24 respec trial, but we are still adding new players (some of whom, I'm willing to bet never come here to plan out their character's future progression) who might not be as prepared to face the respec.

In fact, from that standpoint, I could almost argue that the redside Treespec might be a little bit too hard.

So, I guess, yeah, switch it up a bit, but remember that the "primary" purpose is still really to let people fix less-than-optimal builds, not to grab some relatively easy merits.
  19. I think my reaction/thoughts have already been stated by others, although I am mildly interested in OP's reasoning for choosing Wormhole as the power in Gravity to be replaced over others.

OP - I know you got a lot of strong reactions here, but you might have gotten more discussion for your Suggestion if you had provided a bit more background and reasoning in support of it - just my suggestion to you for the next time.

    My thoughts

Does *anyone* actually take ALL FOUR POWERS in the Fitness pool? There are probably some, but I never do personally - it's usually Swift, 'cause I like to run faster all the time. And I rarely if ever take them at 6, 10, 14 & 20, as per OP's schedule of when to take them, since there are typically much more interesting powers to take at those levels (like Fly!) How can you pass up another attack or one of your armors at level 10? Stamina usually falls about level 22 or 26.

Not going to beat up OP over his failure to use Search, even though none of his ideas were anything that S&I regulars haven't seen before, oftentimes multiple times per month, since the rest of y'all already pointed out the error of his ways. (my English teacher is probably cringing over that spectacular run-on snetence,)

Alternatively, how about Gen Con Indy? Also MidWest, lots of folks (26,000+ at least) there already. I know CoH was part of GenCon several years back because my husband & I went to hear Jack talk (just before Defiance 1.0, called Desperation at the time, was rolled out). 24. Joining the string of solid "meh"s in this thread from several posters.

I'm not in big SGs, nor do I want to be. I never want to see a raid touch my bases (yes, that's plural, I have 5).

My SGs are 3 person groups who will never be able to gather 20 or so people for a single raid. If I want mega raids that need to be that organized, I will sign up for WoW. The vaguely organized chaos that is a Mothership raid is about my speed, or the max-size TF/SF team of 8.

I also agree that it's a point of honor for the Devs so we will eventually se "something" - but it can't possibly live up to the eager anticipation that people keep trying to build up here in the forums.
  25. Trying despeerately to determine if I have enough space and prestige to take advantage of this.

But I'm afraid my bases are all maxxed for what I can really afford for right now.

    Makes me sad
