Is this an old idea? Shop fix
I was wondering if anyone has asked for a shop fix?
I mean, with some shops you have every origin for every type in quadruplicate. Also as a noob, and even now, I find it hard to identify the different enhancements types past the original non origin typed ones. So could we get some sort of organizer for the shops? 1. The Enhancement Type (accuracy, damage, etc) 2. The Origin Type (hybrid or single, for magic, tech, etc) 3. And the Level I imagine this has been asked numerous times before, any word on it? |
All enhancements are coded by color. By the time you hit 35-40, you've been exposed to them that entire time. You should have an idea. Even if you don't, you can right click and get info.
All enhancements origin are coded by the ring around them. Again, you'll have been exposed to them for at *least* 20 levels (DOs) by the time you hit an all origin shop, and you can right click and get it.
And level? .....
Really?
You do notice the numbers on them, right?
The only shops that carry "every origin type" of Enhancement are Ghost Falcon, RWZ, Cim (I believe) and the Elite Quartermaster.

As to the level, the numbers just seem rather smaller lately. I work on a PC all day long, and it has been more stressful trying to figure the numbers out.
This would, I think, make dealing with updating enhancements a lot faster, and less stressful as one could just plug in what they want. Would this really be all that bad of an idea?
Aren't they listed in alphabetical order by what they enhance? Accuracy, Damage, Defense, etc etc.
Although I would prefer it they were sorted by level more, like it would be
Level 35 Accuracy
Level 35 Damage
Level 35 Defense
etc
Instead of
Level 35 Accuracy
Level 40 Accuracy
Level 35 Damage
Level 40 Damage
etc

So it would be nice if someone went thru the various lists and re-ordered them - after deciding what the "rule" is going to be.
I would say it's a really low priority project, but maybe it's something to give to the new hire to help bring them up to speed on systems.

- Damage resistance is listed under R, for 'Resist Damage'.
- Do you recall offhand if you should be looking for 'Stun' or 'Disorient'? (Stun.)
- While we have 'Snare' sets, the enhancement is listed under I for Immobilization.
Also, how do we explain that the following are listed in this order:
Range Increase
Recharge Reduction
Endurance Modification
Resist Damage
Run Speed
Why the heck is End Mod in the middle there???

People have been complaining about the names and organization of enhancements since launch. I fondly remember the day I realized mutation SO enhancements were actually named after what they did.
At one point you could simply hover over the enhancement in the store and it'd tell you what it did, without having to right click. For the life of me I've no idea why that handy little feature was removed.
Yes, I *am* stupid and forgetful enough that I have to check everything, especially for the more-creatively-named enhancements. I can tell which is damage and accuracy, and some others I have memorized too, but when it comes to stuff I don't often slot I have to check, or I WILL screw it up.
Some ability to order the enhancements by type wouldn't hurt my feelings at all. A drop-down perhaps, "Show me ONLY Damage ehancements" for instance. It could default to All. Or just that tooltip back would be nice.

Personally I think a vendor interface similar to the one used by the Architect would be just about perfect. Perhaps not completely necessary with all vendors, but some elements of it applied to them all would be nice.
As lame and pathetic as it sounds, the store interface is why I almost always play Mutants. I know the enhancements. If I switch to a Magic origin, I have *no* idea what the heck to buy. The names make no sense to me whatsoever.

Dec out.
Just make them like the AE ticket trader for enhacements. Because I know I for one find the current store layouts extremely cluttered and not having a 'hover over' option is really irritating.

GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

Luckily when I started playing the game I had a friend who had made up a spreadsheet with all the enhancements by name, origin and type, which I used to carefully plan my purchases until I finally got the hang of the colour code and which name was used for the alphabetic ordering. It doesn't need to be that hard

Quality of Life improvement.
I always wished they'd go through and set some of those merchants that vendor ALL origins in separate tabs or something and they could go further and have tabs for the level if they wanted to go the extra mile. But, I kinda sorta think that it would be a hassle and they figure more people are using IO's than SO's these days so why bother.
I still can't identify Science SOs without the color coding. "Blarghium Bombardment"? Your name hints at nothing! I always figured they just ran out of time so they lazy named the Mutation SO names.
I don't know what any of the enhancements are called. I never learned, because I never used the names. The system works on just colour, but only mostly, because certain enhancement pictures are so big they obscure most of the colour circle, and some colours are far too close to each other, such as run and fly or defence and resistance. And even then, I pity the colour-blind folk.
Enhancements in shop inventories are not arranged in any way that I can determine. It's not alphabetical, it's not by type, it's not by "value" (the Power 10 are scattered all throughout) and it's not even logical. They are, however, arranged the same way in absolutely every store, so it's possible to remember. Accuracy, damage, endurance and heal tend to be high up, recharge is towards the middle, resistance, taunt, run and jump are towards the end and so forth. The mouse-over popup used to help a lot, until it got bugged to not show up and was never fixed. It seems like a pretty bad thing to push back because it ought to be a simple fix to remove a gnawing irritation that has the potential to REALLY piss people off.
The old Market interface used to arrange enhancements by the shop order. The new one arranges them alphabetically. However, being bred to not remember the names of the enhancements on one hand, and never having been given consistent enhancement naming makes that arrangement even less useful. Less useful still for people like me who learned the old order and are consistently blindsided by enhancements not being where they "should" be. Simple things like recharge reduction and attack rate being used interchangeably, as well as slow/entangle or whatever that was called don't help matters.
SO rings should be clearly obvious to anybody as they don't involve colour perception and are fairly different from one another, but enhancements in stores and in your inventory tend to use their small icons, which can make the borders harder to see. They should still be clear, but a mouse-over popup would help.
Having the ability to filter shop inventories by origin and level would help a great deal, especially for the "have everything" ones. Furthermore, making it easier to sell everything would be very helpful. Right now, if you try to sell salvage or recipes by just clicking Sell a lot of times, you will find your current stack deselects itself a lot, forcing you to click on the next one manually. This is a bug that only occurs if you sell out a stack with more than one item in it too quickly. This can be overcome if you sell items at just the right tempo, which is somewhere between around Nightwish's End of All Hope. It's a hideous kludge that shouldn't be required.

Well I now have 1 Hero and Villain at level 40+ so your statements are incorrect.
|
That you've been exposed to the same color system since level 1? You have been. Even if you completely ignore the stores, you get drops of both enhancements and IO recipes (which, for basic IOs, follow the same coding.)
That there are only a very few shops that carry all five origins? This is also true.
That the origin is coded by the ring around them? They are.
That the level is on the enhancement? It is.
That if you have any question, you can right click and find out about the enhancement? You can.
So, which statement is incorrect?
Now, if you'd just come out and said, oh, "You know, for these all-origin shops, having filters or tabs for each origin would make using them easier" or something similar, no problem. The list gets long. But that's not how your OP read, and I gave you information directly replying to the "problems" you have.
As I am still having trouble, but the posts after yours has made many good points expressing the problem and other problems I have been happening.
Personally, I don't understand why all the stores that sell enhancements of multiple origins can't filter out any enhancement that you can't use, reducing the size of their list substantially.
That would seem to be fairly simple, as it's a SQL SELECT statement, and you have to make one to get the list of enhancements from the database anyway, unless, of course the list is fixed and is loaded from a file on your local computer. Even then, a few extra CPU cycles to eliminate any enhancements you can't use due to your Origin...priceless.

I do Mutant a lot, too, unless I have a reason to go with another origin due to a created back story. The Mutant sets are good about telling you,in the name, what they do.

The shop interface is terrible if you have a terrible memory like me and always has been, but at least they sell ALL the enhancements now.
Just out of curiosity, and slightly off-topic, why the devil do Magic Origin characters use Single Origin enhancements like Phasing of Grey, with a grey alien on them? What do grey aliens have to do with magic?
This disconnect has always disturbed me.

You cannot, barring *never* opening your Enhancements tray, never going to a store to buy or sell, and (somehow) selling all recipe drops with your eyes closed, have *not* been exposed to the color coding.
And again, even if you're unsure, the definition of what it is is a right click away. If someone has trouble remembering it, the info's still available.
But, like I *also* said, throwing tabs or some such in those "omnistores" to break them down by origin or whatnot, or filtering out levels you don't need, I wouldn't have an issue with. That is a long list.
PM sent, btw.
