Quote:What he said =]I have to second this (as well as what Forbin already said)
Very nice post Power. You already know why it's not such a great idea now, but if you keep this up, some players are going to have to find something else to whine about.
Although Tommy Lee Jones facepalming without facepalming was still win

My 2 inf on the 'making it optional' part.
I can easily imagine people griefing those who flag PvP off and, when confronted, giving the same response they give when beating up everyone in PvP zones, regardless of what they do.
"If you dont want to, dont go there!"
Well, yeah...thats why PvP is in zones. That way, you know exactly what you are going in for. Like the time when in RV we were trying to hit down on the Hero AVs, and a Blaster kept attacking us and pulling the group apart. Annoying? You bet. Unexepected? Hell no. Well within his rights to do so, annoying though I found it (Personal thing, Im quite high octane in PvP on any console or medium)
If it was in EVERY zone? Can see that doing absolute wonders for my oil pressure... -
Might toss a non-competitor piece in next month...Or maybe the month after, Uni is being especially mean with deadlines at the moment.
Some great entries, the cheesecake one made me chuckle on dA, too. Love the digital brushwork.
Someone buy Pyro a tablet, too! Mouse work after having used a tablet is....eeeesh *shudder* -
I want to post something. But it would come out as a vent-rant and be rather hostile and not particularly constructive. It'd also be hypoctritical, because I hate destructive critiscism, when constructive critiscism works better.
Just...Read the comments people have put. It's good that you can go through life so permanently positive. I wish I could. But you really need to think about context, audience and other stuff like that. Some of these ideas, bluntly, just dont work. Period. -
Wall of text is hurting my brain...
You seen anyone about this, by the way? The obsession with RMT and bank robbing, drugs and...stuff...sounds like a real case of paranoia.
I only wish I was kidding, too. -
Quote:So true dat.I imagine what the devs are doing is they've decided to make epic ATs the reward for new players who successfully complete the Praetorian content. So they'll ding 20, be ready to travel to Paragon or Rogue Isles, and unlock the epic ATs in one fell swoop.
With a touch of schadenfreude I imagine the disappointment on a new player's face as they leave the shiny confines of Praetoria and grind their new epic toon through the wasteland of early blueside content.
Here you go, kiddies, have some lovely, toxic damage Vahzilok! >=3 -
I got two purples about half a month ago.
I was on a level 8 Tanker, sk'd on a friends mission in the RWZ. I had, before then, never got a Purple Drop. Or, for that matter, any half-decent rare drops.
I guess that makes me a damn dirty inf farmer, eh?
It's all so much luck. This is why I stick to vanilla IO'ing my characters at 47, and building up slowly when and/or if I ever get the chance.
The market, t'me, is a game for people who have far more time and inclination to grind than I do. More power to them. -
Given it was said that DP will be 'in time to level throughout the DXP weekend', I would assume it was on live.
DS, not so sure about. -
Not really. Pardon me for being slightly sick of the plethora of slightly whiney toned posts recently. I possibly jumped too early.
[/quote]Quote:I never said they should be "uber leet grind-for-gear" but having a unlock AT 50 for your FIRST 50 is nice. It is a way to reward you for your first 50.
I think getting to 50 is a reward for getting to 50. Also, Im pretty sure theres more stuff in the pipeline. See later comment.
Opinion. Not fact. The Devs obviously dont agree that 20 is too low. A lot of other forumites AND players in game dont agree. And, yes, a new player might find it harder to play an EAT 'right'. Some people still cant play the basic ATs 'right' either though. Thats kind of a self regulating system, though. Those who cant hack it give up and play a different AT, leaving those willing to work it out and tough it out with an EAT they will probably enjoy a lot when they get to grips with it.Quote:Yes getting 50 is easier nowadays.
Yes some will do it right.
I look forward to the influx of new khelds.
HOWEVER.
*I* do not like that its 20.
By 20 you simply dont have enough experience picking powers and slotting them to be able to play a kheld effectively *IMHO.*
That still hardly 'an achievement', as you and others call it. If anything, thats exploitable by people who will get a full team of new players and run the unlock mission, to unlock them for them.Quote:Call me elitist if you wish, but thats not my intent at all, as I would rather see them unlocked via storyarc than simply dinging cape/stamina level.
That said, I think (not certain, mind) that one of the Devs mentioned different methods of unlock. This lowering means that other unlock types are now viable, without people going 'waaah, thats easier than 50, we want our EATs from a mission too!' You know that people would do that.
Given the 'Strikeforce' for 'Endgame' content, I would guess there is something in the line. And there doesnt HAVE to be anything for first 50. Getting the first 50 itself is quite an achievement, and most new players will be happy with that, and look forward to running the high end stuff.Quote:My question still remains unanswered by anyone including rednames. What is going to be the reward for first 50? There needs to be SOMETHING. -
Note: Do not stay up till that late/early in the morning posting. It's not good for your longterm health.
I know this by personal experience...it makes you tired, not think straight, and do things you regret later... -
This thread and others suggest you need to get out more.
I know that sounds harsh. Others have worded it more harshly. But there may be a REASON for the lonliness, in that you spend all your time indoors.
Me? Im a social recluse and happy as larry. The friends I do make are good ones who share my addict- uh, hobbies (gaming, films, animation, art, more gaming) so...yeah.
*shrug* I like the idea itself. I just dont think we can get away with it on this engine and without a fragnatz worth of work. -
I think only one phrase sums up my reaction;
Ohgodtherats. -
It's not. The A.I. itself is complicated and does wierd things. Ever noticed how Hellion Buckshots and the like still run into melee range? And yet they don't even have brawl?
Taking melee off the of the Assault Bot would certainly be a bad thing, as he can deal one hell of a punch. But I agree that the A.I. itself needs another pass, because it's still got some really bad screw ups in it. -
((Story work and character development for my PPD character, SWAT Sergeant Jen Kerringer. Hope you enjoy it too. Please comment or PM with feedback.))
Fire, burning, the scorching, screaming pain as it tore up her body, the dull thwump as the nearby oil drums caught, the resulting explosion sending bent metal and shrapnel everywhere. She felt searing pain in her right arm, before it suddenly stopped, left with a dull, throbbing and wholly unpleasant sensation in its place. She felt like vomiting, but there was no air left in her lungs, no air, no breath...
The physical pain ceased, replaced by a sucking blackness. And then it returned, only this time it was her brain, a scream without sound that made her flesh crawl and her bones try and escape from her own body...except it wasn’t her body; metal caged her, limbs cold, imprisoned, the blackness-
Jen Kerringer awoke with a yell, pistol in her hand and aimed even before she bolted upright. She stopped dead, listening to the hammering sound which, she realised, was her own heart, pounding fit to burst. Her night-wear clung to her, whole body soaked in cold sweat.
She flopped back with a vicious curse, resting her right arm over her face, pistol still clenched. It had taken all her willpower to not pull the trigger by reflex. Eventually, after her heart had stopped trying to erupt from her ribcage, she put the pistol back in its special gap at the head of the bed, before sitting up and hugging her knees to her.
Usually she would have opened the window and had a cigarette to calm her nerves. The problem was, that was the exact same thing she had done two weeks ago. The only difference was the nightmare had been more powerful this time, more vivid. She had no idea why it had chosen to crop up two weeks ago, but the reoccurrence was disturbing, to say the least. She flexed her arm, trying to shake off the déjà vu, and the unsettling sensation that, while her fingers were moving, they were no longer actually there.
Sergeant Jennifer Kerringer didn’t scare easily. She had fought all the scum of Paragon’s criminal underworld, fought an old friend of hers that had become a Supa Troll, and even gone toe-to-toe with a Rikti Chief Soldier and come out alive.
But now, she was scared. Very scared. She was scared she was going to die. And, given the increased potency of the nightmare, she was scared that it would be soon... -
Vigilante = Dark Knight
As Jim so rightly put it; They aren't the Heroes the people want. But they are, sometimes, the Heroes the people need.
To do all the darker things that the 'Good Guys' wont, sometimes because someone has to.

Quote:Veterans get veteran rewards, Beta access and things like that. Perks.Yes, it is a game. It's a game that Iqg to play. One that I've been paying to play for quite some time. So, I think I've got every right to voice my opinion when I feel something is going on that shouldn't be; decisions being made that I think are in complete lack of respect for the people that make the game possible. Paying players are what keep an MMO in existence, and the veterans are those who have been contributing the longest, and should be respected. And I don't feel that this decision is doing that.
It took me 15 months to get my HEAT, longer to get a VEAT. Does this affect me in the slightest? Nope. Im happy people dont have to go through the grind I did to get two more ATs.
Go cry me a river. -
We don't know. GG is assuming.
No one knows. I would hedge a bet that it would be early on Live, because it makes little to no sense to have it on test. I may well be wrong.
So, yes. Until we get Red name confirmation, we don't know. -
Quote:Well said. The joke here is in a job, my employer pays me so I'm more or less at their mercy. I do have to work hard if I want to afford all the little pleasures in life, like, I dunno, paying an MMO with a monthly subscription fee.
But NCSoft here isn't paying me so I can "work" in their game. In fact, I am paying THEM. I don't want to have to put in any substantial effort just to have fun. That's the entire reason I dropped out of other MMOs! I hate to be told "keep playing, it'll be fun!", and I was DELIGHTED to find out that CoH is different in that I can get my fun basically right away.
You want to "work hard" in CoH? Well, solo a MoSTF or something! I'm not stopping you! But personally I like to believe that most people play video games so they can unwind from the hard work of their jobs, not to take the hard work with them, and I'm glad that Paragon Studio's design philosophy reflects that. -
Well...the Arachnos pre-order helmets are 'free' as a Veteran reward.
So...add the cape and sprint in there? -
Quote:See, this is where it's skewed.Yes, we've gotten a slew of cool game features in the mix of all this... but as players... seriously... when we talk about this game to outsiders who don't play... out of that list... how much is something to brag about to make outsiders want to join our game?
If you were to try and brag about the game to an outsider who has never played it before...
Well, all the complaints are coming from people who already play. From veterans who have done all the content before.
A new player will have done none of the content. So they have a virtual tonne of stuff to go through, before they even think about exhausting it. -
I plan on having that sort of moral conflict break out amongst the Sabre team (Chief, Vixen, Wolf and Fox)
Vix is very much anti-vigilantism, although she does fight in the Warzone (its a war after all, but she is a medical officer too)
Fox is quite destructive at times, but he tends to be more about shock and awe, rather than actual killing, despite how he may come across.
Wolf, on the other hand, has been sniping too long, and is firmly in the grey, now.
Chief is...undecided, and possibly actually gonna be the one caught between this the most.
Its an interesting point, either way.

Quote:Given a whole 'Strike Force' dedicated to 'end game content', I doubt they are just going to abandon level 50 as being something special. Both valid points that I honestly hadn't considered. The one thing that's still lost on me is the devs thinking that making them unlockable only at 50 before was a mistake. I like things like that as they give me something to strive for.
Ironically, it might just not be 'right now'. (Ironic in the sense of 'wanting things now' that is
)
