I've got space issues as is just trying to sell the stuff I gather in normal gameplay on the market, even less space would mean I'd just vendor way more things.

And as long as real people interact with each other, the interaction is "real enough," and as such shouldn't be dismissed as no big deal.
I see the internet as the closest thing we have to a telepathic network, billions of people with their thoughts and feelings and only a flimsy barrier to separate them (The screen and keyboard).

That means that a lot of the output you see is raw, emotional ore. Rough, unrefined, jagged.

The combined mix of 'everyone on the internet are ***** due to being anonymous' and 'it's only pretend, it's not real, it's just online' creates a bit of a toxic, perpetuating mix.

A: Everyone does it, so it doesn't matter
B: Even if it did, it's not real after all, so it still doesn't matter

We've not had the internet for long, compared to other forms of communication. So it'll take a while for people to learn what is and isn't acceptable. But that relies on teaching by example and on teaching children.

Children are after all incredibly cruel, vindictive creatures in real life, so you can imagine how as the age barrier for accessing the internet lowers, the potential for malicious actions of them is there unless taught properly.

Internet Citizenship, how's that for a class?

*Looks at the Origin of Power/Power Proliferation Lore*

Mostly because when it is either ham fisted or nonsensical, it's better to go with what you know and what fits in with your characters?

    In my case:

Rushmore gaining more power from the Spirit of America
Number Nine unlocking limiters on her singularity engine to enable her to use her powers better
Cindersnap boosting his pyrokinesis with martial arts techniques
Zortel upgrading her suit with brand new, cutting edge technology
Nachtbrecher tapping into and discovering more of Thule's techno-magical power

You know what? I kind of wish that the Alpha Slot was in it's i18 version now, where you unlocked it by either doing a high end task force, paying with reward merits, paying with an alignment merit, or paying with vanguard merits.

Tying Incarnates into one power source lorewise, the Well, was a mistake.

I know they have to provide some story, but if the story provided doesn't mesh well with our characters, should we hamstring them? Or should we use our imagination, a fundamental part of roleplaying, to say "Hey, this is how my character is stepping up to the game."

If wanting my characters abilities to fit with their power, backstory and theme is snowflake in it's specialness, rather than relying on a huge chunk of Phlebotinum that is the Well of the Furies? Then this is me:

"Enhancer, what the hell is up with your face?"

"I have installed cybernetic eyes, to help me aim better!"

"Your face is -covered- in them!"

"ALL THE BETTER TO SEE YOU WITH!"

"And why do you have bandoliers strapped to your fists?"

"They contain explosive bullets, so that when I punch, my fists explode with righteous fury!"

    "Won't that hurt?"

"That is why I have crammed all this sub-dermal underlay under my fists!"

"And where did those scars on your chest come from?"

"Cybernetic hearts! With ten of them beating inside me-"

    "TEN?!"

"YES! Ten hearts, ten times the endurance and fitness!"

    "You should be -dead-!"

"Ah, that is where these nano-regenerators come in!"

"I'm not even going to ask about the mound of-"

    "Hamidon Goo."

"And with these pages of the Malleus Mundi stuffed in my boots, no one will EVER knock me down."

    "I CAN'T HEAR YOU!"

"Want to see my Inanimate Carbon Rod? It helps me work longer."

    "AAAAAAAAAH!"
  5. I'm giving thanks for them giving us the game, which keeps on giving in terms of content, community and fun, and given the circumstances I'm given to say thanks for all that giving.

    ... Yeah! Happy Thanksgiving.

Rushmore's a bit of a Captain Marvel homage in a way. To transform from Jamie Matthews into Rushmore, he currently has to be on American Soil. He raises his arm into the air and says 'America, give me strength!'

Sometimes, the Spirit of America talks to him. Once, it even took him over to warn a Praetorian. There are other avatars of country spirits out there, even of dead countries still remembered. Rushie has a nemesis in Confederacy Caroline, the spirit of the CSA still clinging on thanks to the presence of Confederate flags. He also once had a rock off against a demon with the Guitar of Liberty at the Statue of Liberty. The statue's torch burst into flames, and the pair grew in size to battle in the bay.

It's only natural that this is the source of his new abilities is the source of his old ability. With Praetorians invading, America giving one of it's champions the strength to fight on America's soil and elsewhere is a wise idea for it, instead of some piece of the Well.

Incidentally, I've been working out what the characters get. Rushie is going for Endurance/Res, as America's power lets him fight longer and boosts his ability to shrug off damage. Quickfrost gets End/Range, once he's 50 and been taught by Cindersnap, as his ice abilities are easier to channel and send further. Zahir Rolando will probably upgrade his fabricators to enable him to build more devices quicker to deploy (/Traps) and increase the repair and rejuvenation tech he has. (Going for Rech/Heal) while Zortel will upgrade her power systems and work in changes to her stun capacitors in her gloves (Recharge/Stun). Though her IO's are also part of her character, once she has the Kinetic Combat sets, she'll be using the stun capacitor fields in the gloves to block melee attacks. Her five Thunderstrike sets are a series of upgrades that conserve energy (+recovery), channel into her thrusters and energy shields to protect and avoid (+Travel Speed, +Ranged/Energy/Negative Defence) and give her beam attacks more penetrative power, as well as allowing more computing time for her targetting systems (+Acc). Consequentially, the system is powered by the Thunderstrike Chip.
  7. Rushmore: Will gain the status of Ambassador to the Spirit of America when he happens across a Praetorian strike team. This will let him use the power of America overseas and in other dimensions, and results in a plentiful, potent patriotic powerhouse.

Cindersnap: Will have a short story adventure that results in him learning a martial art designed for mutants, that helps them channel their chi to bolster their metahuman ability. He'll then be able to teach two other of my characters, Quickfrost and Fusebox, for when they hit 50.

Others I am less decided on so far.

    How about this then?

No change to Granite, New Stone Skin (vers. A or B) does not work with Granite, other armours get buffed to where the devs feel comfortable.

Result: Those who want to use Granite, can use Granite. Those who do not, get powers that are no longer sub-par making up for granite.

If Granite knocks all toggles bar rooted off, then what is the point of having the toggles being under par anyway?
  9. Rooted makes me wish that Rushmore was Invun/Stone Melee sometimes.

Not just for the fact I could have had red, white and blue auras instead of chunks of varying rock obscuring his costume.
  10. What is this I don't even...

    Wait, what?

Okay, I'm a Roleplayer and I have no clue what's going on here. OP, let me ask you:

You're in a desert, walking along in the sand, when all of a sudden you look down and see a tortoise crawling towards you. You reach down and flip the tortoise on it's back. The tortoise lays on it's back, it's belly baking in the hot sun beating it's legs, trying to turn itself over, but it can't without your help. But you're not helping. Why is that?
  11. Some useful Slow sets would be nice as well. There's a lot of chaff IO's in all of the slow sets such as:

    Damage/Slow, Range/Slow, Accuracy/Damage/Slow.

    And hardly any:

    Recharge/Slow, Endurance/Slow, Endurance/Recharge/Slow

Targetted AoE sets could do with more End/Recharge, and less Damage/Range and Damage/Endurance/Range.

  13. It is a fairly poor reason, yes. The game, Paragon City especially, looks very.. artificial. There's little rhyme or reason to it's layout and design, and little that you'd expect in a real city. Take Atlas Park:

This is the heart of the city, yeah? City Hall and everything?

... Why is the Argosy Industrial District that close to it? Here's what Atlas Park should be to me: Parks, Trendy apartment complexes, shopping arcades and pedestrian areas, high rise buildings of varying architecture and tourist attractions.

Adding Weather onto this would be lovely. Imagine it, when it's raining, Hellions huddle under bridges, waiting for the foolhardy to pass through for easy pickings. Clockwork playing up as the rain messes with their already rusted bodies. Vahizlok's forces staying hidden in car parks and near sewer entrences, ready to grab a victim. If NPC's switched from jeans and t-shirts to coats and umbrellas, those less fortunate running for shop entrences to hide in while the shower passes. A less... rapid day/night cycle making things less ridiculous, and NPC's doing things that you'd expect people to do (Window browse, sit on park benches, sip coffee.

I'd have been blown away if I saw that when coming into Atlas Park for the first time. It would have made the game less 'Game World is just what fills getting from Contact to Mission Door' and more 'Wow I want toe explore and fight crime!' for me.

Not everything can, or should, have a game effect. Sometimes the aesthetics are the icing on the cake that can enhance a playing experience without altering the mechanics of it. "Just on my way to that mission, hold it, some Hellions skulking in the shade near that park... *fly in, take them down, fly off.* That'll keep people out of trouble."

Praetoria was a good start for a city. Yes, it's an artificial one, as it was supposed to be, but it looks way more real than Paragon City ever has.

(Also, imagine a dark, rainy night in Steel Canyon's Blyde Square. Bright Neon advertising logos pinned to shop and high rise buildings, shining in the drenched darkness as they compete with each other. Pleading for attention from a cold, hurried populous just wanting to get what they know and get home.

Above Cooke's Electronics, a Red Beast display flickers and crackles as one of the Outcast's electrical-gifted mutants starts to sabotage the display. His attention rapt by his amateur lighting work, the wind and rain dulling his hearing, he works clueless to the presence of the caped hero floating behind him. Not even the rain can dull the bright red and black, Icon-outfitted meta's attire.

"I'd like to see your work permit for that." The hero spoke with a smile.)
  14. I've been thinking about my characters. Well, I do that normally. More particularly, I've been thinking about their sets, and what suggestions and changes I'd love to see made to them. The one that bugbears me the most, is my level 50 tanker, Rushmore. So this is a topic about Stone Armour, because I have no issues and much love for Stone Melee.

Some suggestions may fall afoul of the Cottage Rule, but in that case, there is usually an Either/Or option.

    Stone Armour:

Rock Armour: Currently gives 16% Defence to Smashing/Lethal, and Defence Debuff Resistance.

My suggestion: Add some Smashing/Lethal Resistance to it as well, even if it was made unenhancable. There is a precident for this in Shield Defense's Deflection, which gives +Melee Defence (Base 15%) and 15% Smashing/Lethal Res. Frozen Armour gies 17% S/L Defence, with 12.5% Fire and 30% Cold Resistance for the same cost. Rock Armour only gives 16% Defence to Smashing and Lethal, and with the new low level area of Praetoria, with enemies doing mixed Melee damage, Rock is at a disadvantage.

Stone Skin: Currently gives 10% Resistance to Smashing/Lethal.

My Suggestion: Either - A: Change it into something like True Grit/High Pain Tolerance, giving resistance to a range of attacks (HPT does 7.5% Res to All and gives +187 HP at 50, TG 15% Res to Fire/Cold/Toxic/Energy/Negative and gives +187 HP at level 50.)

Or - B: A sort of Tough Skin (5% Defence all but Psi, Defense Debuff Res) with the +HP component of True Grit/High Pain Tolerance.

The first would stack with the Resistance added with the suggested Rock Armour (and other powers), while the latter would add with the basic defence abilities of the set (Perhaps changing it to give 5% Defence to Smashing/Lethal/Energy/Negative/Psi to match the main defence points of Stone Armour).
    ]
Earth's Embrace: No change, it's in line with the other powers of it's type (Dull Pain, Hoarfrost.)

Mud Pots: PBAoE DoT Aura, also does -Spd and Immobilize, plus Taunt.

My Suggestion: Remove the Immobilize Component, drop the endurance cost from .78 a second to .52 a second, in line with the other offensive auras that tank sets have (Death Shroud, Lightning Field, Blazing Aura, Icicles.)

Rooted: Currently gives 100% Regen, KB/Repel/Knock Up/Held/Immob/Stun/Sleep Protection. Also gives End Resistance, but debuffs run speed, flight, jump speed and jump height.

My Suggestion: Remove the Run Speed/Jump Debuffs. Regen and Immobilization/Knockback Protection only happen when the character is on the ground. There is a precident for this with Grounded from Electric Armour. This would remove the issues of having to detoggle your status protection buff to deal with a small ledge, which in some maps can be overpresent and difficult to deal with. I cannot think of another power set (Aside from the dire old Unyielding Stance from Invun, which meant you couldn't move) that punishes your character for having the audacity to try and position themselves without getting mezzed.

Brimstone Armour: Currently gives 25% Resistance to Fire and Cold.

My Suggestions: This power -needs- to be changed. Desperately. It's endurance cost is .26 a second for two Resistance values at 25%. Let's see what other sets get access to.

Dark Armour: Murky Cloud - 30% Fire/Cold, 20% Energy/Negative Resistance, and End Drain Resistance. 0.208 Endurance a second.
Electric Armour: Conductive Shield: 35% Energy/Fire/Cold, 20% Negative Resistance, 0.26 a second Endurance cost.
Fire Armour: Plasma Shield: 30% Fire/Cold/Negative Resistance, Hold/Sleep Defence. 0.26 a second endurance cost.

For lesser, or exact endurance costs, other sets get more for their buck. I'd either add in some other resistances (S/L/E/N at lesser levels to go with Stone Skin Version A), or give it defence to Fire/Cold with an amount of Fire/Cold Resistance (that would match with Stone Skin A or B.)

Crystal Armour: Currently gives 16% Energy/Negative Defence, and Defence Debuff Resistance.

My Suggestion: I would say to add a small amount of Res to the above types of damage, similar to Rock Armour's suggestion, and/or To Hit Debuff Resistance.

Minerals: Currently gives 25% Psi Defence, Confuse Resistance and +Percetion.

My Suggestion: Pretty good as is. Maybe taking the To Hit Debuff Res that was proposed for Crystal Armour and putting it here, to pair up with the +Percetion.

And thus we come to it. My bane, my scourge, the anathema to changes to Stone Tankers.

Granite Armour: 20% Typed Defence to all but Psionic, 50% Resistance to all but Psionic, Mez Protection against Stun, Sleep, Hold, Immobilze, Knockback, Knock up and repel, debuffs to recharge, damage, run speed and jump speed/height.

My Suggestion: This is a difficult one. Some people love granite. Some people hate it. Some have geared their tanks towards being perma granite, taking teleport to position themselves in combat.

At it's current level, turning it into a click power straight up would not work. Being unable to jump would present difficulties in maps for those without teleport, with no easy way to quickly retoggle to move better. It would also disrupt those who've gone for perma Granite.

You could leave it how it is, and tag Stone Skin not to work with it in it's new form, perhaps. The buffs to other powers would not carry over, so it would be an option for those who want to be perma granite, or those that just want an emergency button they can control.

Another possibility is a lessening. Cut the Defence and Resistance bonuses, drop the mag protection, or work some into Rooted for while on the ground again, and have it stack with current armours. This would be quite some work, and some would still complain about it.

The truth is, Granite is an old design issue. One I am not apt enough to tackle with any confidence. My problem with Stone though, is that it is too back-loaded onto Granite. It's a little like Super Strength's Rage/KO Blow/Foot Stomp. All potent abilities, gotten mostly late, and the rest of the set suffers for it.

To try and round up some possibilities though:

A: Left as is, with new Stone Skin A or B either working with it, or not.

B: Lessening the defence and resistance given, dropping and moving the status protection (IE: Into Rooted while on the ground), and having it stack with the existing armours. There is likely to be issues with this, not least relating to costumes as before. Perhaps Minerals would not work with it, to still give it that flaw. Maybe the debuffs to movement could remain, and some of the debuffs to damage be split instead.

As I said, Granite is a problem. And I just don't have the answers. It'd be interesting to see if you do.

So that's my thoughts on Stone Armour. Thank you for your time,
Zortel - Playing Rushmore., out of Granite Form and battling with Rooted wherever possible.

    Agreed.

Void Hunters - Kheldian (PB/WS) Arcs Only, and probably the Moonfire TF (and any Council missions dealing with ze Nictus.)

Cysts - Only Appear in The missions that the very rare things should actually be in.

Bright Nova/Dwarves - Kept only to the Kheldian arcs dealing with Rogue Peacebringers.

Dark Nova/Dwarves - Council Enemy Boss.

Split the powers, loosely, between the origins (plus a general subsection for travel and origin nuetral powers) then when you buy a power within your origin it costs you a little less, when you buy a power directly opposite the origin (i.e. a Natural buying a Magic power) it costs a little more.

Balancing would be a pain hence could probably only be done at launch.

Would also mean that cap level could be infinite, plus it would be easier to add a new power than a new powerset. Also you could add new origins later on ... such as aliens et al.

End result greater flexability for character creation at the cost of greater player imagination and intellect.
That's a pretty awful cost. Imagination is what makes the game more fun for me, if I was punished because my character concept mixed origins? That'd just be terrible.
  17. Not tied Reichsman in with the Column (It's just stupid. Have him bringing over Axis America forces.)

Not brought in that Roman place.

Used resources bringing in that Roman Place to instead: Do new Ouroboros arcs/TFs, revamp old zones, flesh out the Midnight Squad.

Remove the Origin of Power arc and the lore on Powerset Proliferation.

Get Powerset Customization done for APPs/PPs in Issue 17, instead of... well, no sign now.
  18. Zortel

    Alpha Slot

Quickfrost (Ice/Ice/Arctic blaster): Endurance/Range (Further range on Bitter Ice Blast and holding people before they know what's hit them, and cutting down on Ice's quite peaky end costs? Sweet.)

Zortel (Energy/Energy/Force Blaster) Recharge/Stun (Making my melee attacks hit more often, stun for longer, and recharging all my things like power boost, boost range and such more? Excellent.)

Those are the only two I have worked out yet for the Uncommons. Got a Fire3, Electric3 and a DP/Psi Blaster to decide on.
  19. Most of my best friends I've made through and met outside this game. Two players who I've known for five years, I was maid of honour at their wedding. Another is an honourary brother of mine. I've met them at conventions, in various cities, even stayed round theirs. We've had meet ups in London where we basically spent all day in a pub chatting, gone shopping, even dated through the game.

My list of people I've met so far:

FloatingFatMan, Ravenswing, Aisla, Doctor Temporis, Hikari-Hime, Gideon, Jedi-and, Wordmaker, Jennybear, ShadowGhost, Crimson Archer, Dante, Shadowe, Purple Pix, Ammon, Quilla, Wild Red, Kallandra, Eleven, Fanservice, Coile, Blackdove, Mereman, Wilf, Poptart Fairy, Maximillian, Stasis, Fire Guardian, Extremus, Xanthus, Solar, Omega Chief, Emperor Lol, Catkeeper, Cass_, Liz Bathory, Plasmarch, Royal, Gangrel, Rebel Darkwolf, Big Lunk, and there's probably many others.

I've also met some of the old EU community staff, and War Witch and Nobel Savage at Omega Sektor 08.
  20. As I understand it, you started off sans super powers in a gang in that iteration of CoV and worked you way up to getting super powers through missions and story arcs. This was rightly changed due to it being too constraining, storywise, compared to City of Heroes.

Would you have liked to have been a mook for x levels with no superpowers?
