    Elec/... umm

Try trick arrow. It's fun and fairly unique, and once you get oil slick arrow, things just melt.
  2. Next time, speed boost him into a mob he can't handle.
  3. You might find a dm/sd scrapper enjoyable. Fairly survivable in either teams or solo, and by level 12 I already felt ridiculous.
  4. I didn't even know this was coming out until I read this post. While WW is a character I've always found fairly boring and I most likely wouldn't have watched it anyways, that costume design just ensures that I'll avoid this show like the plague.

    Seconded forever.
  6. I would suggest dark as a secondary rather than sonic. You'll still be positioning yourself fairly close to some of the melee characters, but you'll get the added shadow fall for translucenty goodness and fearsome stare for ghostly scariness.

This build is capable of having 2 tornados, 1 waterspout, 2 carrion creeper patches, and 3 lightning storms out all at once.
*thieves build; grins stupidly at newfound treasure*

Thank you! I've been looking for this exact combination.

    Soooo /Ice ...

If you're looking for something thematic, you can always switch earth assault to the crystal option and recolour it to look ice-ish. I've got an ice/earth dom that I'm actually quite fond of. Ice assault is neat, but it needs some work. Until then, I'm happy with my GIANT HAMMER OF SMASH!

Rad/Psychic: Pros: broken amounts of AoE -recharge, nice single target blasts. Cons: no Aim, worthless single target stun, miserable damage type, keep eyes peeled for crafted or flashback temp powers to deal with zombies and robots solo. Vibe: scrapperish -- you can take down a problem target quickly, with enough survivability from your debuffs to be not too squishy (and the team likes your debuffs too).

Rad/Rad: Pros: three non-nuke AoE blasts, a respectable damage type, Cosmic Burst, Achilles' Heel procs, and Irradiate messing with stalkers in PvP in so many ways. Cons: Neutron Bomb's damage type is nice but it's still no Rain of Arrows, unpredictable knockback on Electron Haze. Vibe: tankerish -- you can take point, Burst an LT in the fase, entice the other enemies to crowd around (the fools!), heal yourself, and dodge stuff as long as Radiation Infection is going, just watch out for mez.

Rad/Elec: Pros: nice single target hold, stackable with Choking Cloud, with a recovery shutdown built in, PBU+SC option at high levels. Cons: a bit low on AoE damage, a bit low on ST damage when Sparky isn't focusing. Vibe: defenderish -- you make bad PuGs work by providing a backup plan to shut enemies down (provided your teammates suck at mezzing, spike damage, and tanking), and in a veteran TF (where your teammates don't suck), even though your direct damage is low, your rad debuffs justify your place.

Rad/Dark: Pros: spammable cone immobilize, -tohit stacking is nice in the rare cases defender strength Radiation Infection isn't enough (purples). Cons: no Aim, a bit low on AoE damage, emphasis on cones means you might have to rely on slot-needy Dark Pit for minion mezzing instead of Choking Cloud (and the two don't stack), Torrent's knockback is workable but does little damage and has a steep learning curve. Vibe: controllerish -- you're the "no" man: enemies can't move, can't hit, can't recharge, can't regen without your permission... just pretend your teammates are your pets.

Rad/Sonic: Pros: -resistance debuffs make everything faster, -resistance debuffs' hidden boost to Enervating Field's -damage makes AVs and GMs even sadder pandas, nice split damage type. Cons: cones/Choking Cloud mismatch, Shockwave's knockback has almost as steep a learning curve as Torrent, though the damage is better. Vibe: blasterish -- soloable with careful use of mezzes, debuffs, and single target burst, but with a good team backing you up and letting you go full throttle, look out universe.

All in all, single target damage is the limiting factor for defender soloing, so if you're mostly concerned with soloing, lean towards heavier single target hitters (/Psi is best at that, followed by /Sonic, /Rad, /Elec, then /Dark). Damage and defense are altered in weird ways in PvP, so /Rad actually ends up one of the more popular secondaries for PvP. Any flavor of rad emission will do well on PvE teams in general, but /Dark is especially good for PuGging (chaos reduction), /Sonic is especially good for TFing (AVBBQ).
This post is GLORIOUS. I don't think I've ever seen this kind of information cranked out into such tiny paragraphs. I wish my undergrads would learn how to do this...

DEFENDERS FOREVER, FRAIL REFLECTION OF PERFECTION!

    *ahem*

I mean, uh...while you have a valid position, I feel that both corruptors and defenders would benefit from the reimagination and proliteration of sets such as poison to their repetoire. The utter sexiness of muchos loogieing by corruptors and defenders would forever and ever make masterminds (teh lolerz archetype), well...replaceable.

No more stupid robots and demons blocking doorways!
  11. *swoon and twirl!*

There'd have to be some adjustments with end consumption and poison trap, but it could be done.

I wouldn't call it meh, that's for sure. Dropping a burn patch immediately after using lighting rod is pretty amazing.

And cones? The only one I'm aware of is jacobs ladder.
  13. _Malk_

    What Epic ??

Go dark mastery. StormyDarkness already listed some of the big strengths of the set, but you'll also probably find soul drain synergizes really well with irradiate.

Depending on the power set, it might be more useful/fun to get the final two blasts versus Tornado/LS.
Fair point. If the blast set that was being paired with storm was archery, hands down I would suggest going with a corruptor (because RoA is ZOMG AMAZING!). The only power in dark blast that would make me consider rolling corruptor over defender is life drain, but I want that heal to hit me harder, so I stick with defender for this pairing. Blackstar is pretty meh for me.

I don't know as much as I should about these two classes as I've always played MMs in the past, I'm branching out so to speak.
Of course they do, but the chances of seeing that on a team is pretty minimal. It's great for solo play, but on a team you might see gloom start scourging on a foe only for them to be cut down a second later.
  16. Personally, I'm a bigger fan of storm as a defender simply because of the faster access to the powers that you really, really want. The ability to skip gale, as you pointed out, is a bonus if you dislike the hallway clearing cone in favor of the smaller, murkier torrent.

Because you plan on running full teams, I think the defender would be the optimal choice for the pairing. Damage-wise, the "heavy hitting" powers of dark tend to be DoTs, so you won't ever be killing things as quickly as you would with another set (ice or energy, for example) even if you do choose corruptor over defender. Your primary, as a defender, will throw in some damage powers that can pick up the slack much sooner than you would see with a corruptor.
  17. I'm assuming he means in the optimally complimentary way.

Can't go wrong with energy mastery. Lazer beam eyes!
  18. Personally, I slotted tenebrous tentacles for damage rather than immob. Combined with caltrops and nightfall, things die quickly...well, maybe not quickly, but quicker than without any damage enhancements. It recharges so quickly that I didn't see a need to slot for immob.

    Team of 2

Not so much of a comment on the builds as much as it is a question:

Why energy blast? Personally, I would have gone dark blast for both of them instead.

  22. Thanks very much for the feedback, folks! I've finally settled on a scrapper, so we'll see how it goes.
  23. Try Dark Watcher's Despair; you'll enjoy the shiny bonuses. Fluffy can be enhanced in so many ways, and this set covers quite a few of them.
  24. Hello friends. First things first:

    /em seduction

    Excellent...

    *ahem*

I, a humble defender/corruptor/closet controller player, would like to try something different -- one of those melee thingers that run around slapping people whilst blasters find new and creative ways to die despite my very bestest attempts to keep them alive. I have him conceptually planned out but there are a few options available to me:

    Fire/SD scrapper
    SD/Fire tank
    SD/SS tank
    Fire/SD brute
    SS/SD brute

I'm leaning heavily towards super strength, but fiery melee is also a conceptually viable option thanks to power customization. That said, the totality of my melee character experience involved rolling a stone/stone brute back in i11, getting all swoony over his costume for about three minutes, and then deleting him. I really have no idea which of these combinations are "the best" or if they're going to be slow going, painful characters to build up. Typically, I'm more of a solo player who will pick up a team from time to time.

Any advice on which path to follow is much appreciated.
