It's true! Bio effect wears off if you die, chem warhead's debuff you have to wait for a situation where it's useful... but a nuke... well, it's always the right time for a nuke.

Nothing on god's earth can take a /EA brute to Res cap? -
Fair dinkum, I thoroughly respect pure support as a way to play - I've always said there's as many ways to build and play an empath as there are empaths. With the amount of control available in /psi, it's a viable option for a deftroller!
Still say Psychic Wail is absolutely ace damage, mind -
Wilfred's (Empathy/Psi) APP is Psychic Mastery, and for some reason he's been listed under defenders rather than Tankers..
Also, I have Incorruptible, level 50 Kinetic/Psychic defender, also Psychic Mastery APP. -
Hey, you might try:
Arachnos Research and development (you'll need a labcoat, though)
Ainur
The Echelon (PM Mighty on these boards)
or Insanity Inc.
All of which are at least partially PvP SG's! -
Looking good, once some detail is up you'll really be flying. Best of luck with your SG's continued success!
-
I'd say Air supes, being faster, is more 'useable' in combat - plus the knockdown is so reliable even up to AV level that it's a viable form of control to give you a running-away window without having to wait three seconds for it to execute.
-
Like all powers, thinking about who you're going to use it on and what effect it is going to have BEFORE use is a good idea.

Tickle
They're effective enough - to use something as archaic as BI, Psychic Wail does 15 BI unslotted, compared to Blaster Nova's 12.5 BI unslotted. Consider also that Psychic damage is less commonly resisted than energy and smashing damage.
Course, the modifier for blaster blasts is a little higher, but don't be underestimating the power of the wail.
Foes sent to hospital are less likely to be a problem than disoriented foes. -

Heh EGen, from my pretty limited playtime in PvP it seems to me that whoever can control the flow of battle best to suit their powersets comes out on top - I know my armour's weak and there's no way I can stand one on one with any other brute or scrapper... Hit and run is the only option open to me.
Example - Regen scrappers are great at prolonged battle but if you can do enough damage in a short space of time they're toast. They WANT me to stand about, so they can heal up while they whittle me down - it's a game I can't win, so I don't play it their way!
Edit: besides which, standing in the open exchanging fisticuffs is asking for an AS in the back! -
Clear Mind doesn't need recharges at all, it's back up again nigh instantly and no problem keeping the team Clear with nothing in the native slot. I tend to jam a range enhancer in there.
Psychic wail doesn't need slotting for disorient duration, theduration on it is already big enough that you can happily use it to create a window to get the team away. Damages rather than disorients will thin the foe's numbers quite happily, or at least soften them up for the rest of the team.
The native ToHit buff in Fortitude is pretty good, and I've never slotted for it - 3 recharge, 3 defence seems to keep everyone happy.
Recharges in rez is a tricky one - once you're out of the hollows it's only Oranbega that's a worry, what with going to prison and all - frankly hospital's never far away.
Absorb pain loves all the heals you can give it - but recharge is dangerous as you'll top yourself before you've noticed you're low. When the tank is struggling, you'll need those three heals in AP.
Personally I'd drop maneuvers, wangle assault in earlier and pick up telekinetic blast at 20. I know you're concentrating on team support, but just having Will Dom and TK Blast together is almost infinitely better than having one or the other - on those occasions you are required to, or are able to blast, you can happily string TK and WD together. TK's knockback is also handy for walloping foes away from both yourself and your fellow squishters.
On a much motre minor point - once you've stamina up and running, a second end reduction in teleport is possibly superfluous - slot a third range and challenge people to races along the whole length of IP. -
Freezing Rain duration, 20 seconds, irradiate 5 seconds. Both last until the duration is through, with freezing rain even if they manage to flee the AoE. If they get outside ofthe AoE, I *think* the debuff still applies, but they're spared the fun of falling over every other second.

Got pounded by Just about every time I got close I got blasted to shreds heh, needed to pop purples to get near
Just to verify... I don't pick on spectators - I pick on everyone! I'm pretty new to the whole PvP lark so still finding my feet.
Thanks all for restoring my faith - Time to gank me some squishies!
Er... judge? Could we get that last remark stricken from the record -
I love PvP, but since I'm invisibuled I just play like a weak stalker without AS... I guess Brutes will never be gods of PvP since we're simply not as tough as scrappers in a stand-up fight and debuffs really really hurt us. Our inherent, as mentioned before, is almost below worthless in PvP - we do have a superb damage cap though so if you can find a friendly kin corruptor to FS you (Warburg only!) off a large mob of foes, then you're laughing.
-
That's just the thing, I'm certain they weren't idiots and the way I'd played must have really grated badly on them for them to worry about it over broadcast - I don't really want to spend my entire PvP career worrying about whether what I'm doing is fair or not!
Cheers for the confidence though -
Hi all. Please bear with me, I've been trying to think of the exact words to express myself in this post for a wee while now.
I'm new to PvP zones. I've played in Siren's during large events, and in teams occasionally. My characters on CoH who are of appropriate level are not great as they aren't built for PvP, two defenders and a tank, and all need a team to operate efficiently.
Recently, my brute Mr Wuffles matured and I decided to try out Warburg.
I've been in three times now for a short while each time (got Web Master just before writing this post), and my reputation stands at 74.3. I'm EM/EA, and find I cannot stand toe-to-toe with other brutes or scrappers.
What I do, is zip around with energy cloak on and superspeed up. It gives me a small amount of stealth, and when I see people I speed towards them using 'F', hit build up then Energy Transfer, then land a Total focus and hit other attacks in the order they recharge until the foe is dead or runs away, or I nearly am and either die or run away. I find this is the only way I can play.
However, today in Warburg I've found out that apparently my way of playing is 'lame', and in fact that I am a 'lameass'. This from someone who apparently has all the badges and a rep of 400, so clearly *must* know what they're talking about, by the name of [removed]. I'm not naming and shaming, because there's nothing to shame.
When I saw this player standing about earlier, I ran up, belted them with ET and TF, then when I saw there was no response, left without killing them.
Later I saw this same player, moving this time, and lined up buildup and ET, both of these landed, and the person fell over. What was later intimated to me, over broadcast, was that they were being held and I had just caused them debt.
Now, I apologised for this, if I'd stood about to check what was happening I'd have been ripe for an AS (so many people are teamed with stalkers ready to pounce when I engage that I tend to be wary), and as the tarantula who'd been attacking was around the corner, there was no way I could have known that they were being attacked.
After apologising, I went off looking again, spotted a blaster moving around on the beach near the hero ship. Same business, BU + ET + TF + bone smasher, dropped him and hoofed it.
Then THAT fellow pointed out he'd been watching a fight, which I couldn't see, over broadcast. At which point the chap from the first instance, started calling me unskilled.
I don't mind that, as I agree I'm not exactly fast with my fingers. But 'lame', wasn't particularly nice, considering it's pretty much the only way I play. It's not as if I picked on either of these people, as a minute or two before I'd 'picked on' a regen scrapper who had been seeing off all comers, by himself on the beach.
Apparently I'm a 'lameass chicken' for using the powers that come with my powersets in a fashion that keeps me alive and gives me a good crack at foes.
The fun bit was, afer this every time I was spotted an entire teamful of heroes would descend and hound me until I lost them or retreated into base - a big shift compared to what had gone before this broadcast tirade.
Now what I'm posting for, is to ask whether this viewpoint is shared among the community? It's put me off PvP zones a little to find out that playing in the only way that gives me any chance of success is frowned upon - I do not go looking for AFK people, or squishies, or people that are held - If I see someone and I'm in a state to attack I do it.
I don't want people to pick sides (because this person clearly knows a lot of people anyway), I just want to know whether I should continue as I am, or leave the PvP zones alone entirely. If I can't fight in the way I have been, there's no way I can be effective in combat.
Edit: Last bit came out a bit toy/pram ish... didn't mean it to! Also fixed early paragraph, Wuffles is a brute, not a def -
Only going on what the Kin/Dark I levelled for S4 found... with siphon power, Gloom's more useful, and with my Kin/Psi I see instant and large benefits to shoehorning two decent attacks into a kin/* build before, say, 22 ish. As for tranfusion/transference slotting... I like 2/2/2, makesit easier on team to spam heals aroundif the battles spread out, and th it's a pretty masive heal anyway and doesn't need superenhancing to be effective

My thoughts on Stalkers:
Born to gank. Don't despise them, beause that's the only way of fighting PvP they can get away with. While they're not as supersquishy as some think, a yellow or three gets through most of their defences. Asking a stalker to drop hide and fight normally is like (and I saw this in Warburg just the other day) a scrapper asking a controller to turn flight off, stop debuffing him and 'fight like a man'. Ridiculous.
It's true that stalkers may not be as effective against experienced PvPers, and therein lies the problem. When I'm hoofing it about a PvP zone with my brute, tank, or defenders, I can tell fairly quickly who is a pro and who is not (I fall in to the 'not' category, if you're interested ). That's not to say they are worse players; but PvP comes with its own set of rules which very often need to be learnt the hard way.
Now, if someone relatively new to the game pops into siren's, enjoys the scenery, get into some fun skirmishes, perhaps tries mission or to, then gets killed four or five times in fairly rapid succession by something they cannot see to run away from or have any knowledge of how to counteract, it is bound to put them off PvP, possibly for good. And that ain't good.
There's no solution to it, as far as I can see. It's just a shame that counering stalkers is difficult without wholescale changes to one's build. -
With regards to running away... If standing still and continuing to try to hit a controller while all his rad toggles are debuffing you through the floor and his imps are tearing you to shreds is a tactical decision, then I propose that in fact my sister's son is a simian.

Arena takes a lot more organising than a gert bundle in a pvp zone, and we're lazy?

DM complements EA superbly, as ToHit debuff from DM is effectively increasing your defence. Add in the self heal (as EM/EA, I'm incredibly jealous), and your survivability is not too shabby. Energy Drain and Conserve Power, as quite rightly stated, just about does away with the need for stamina (with a few carefully placed end reduction SO's). Oh, and Overload is like typing IDDQD.
